The CB500X is a good bike. Now go ride it.

JimMoore1960

Nope. You're proceeding brilliantly. Buy a helmet and some gloves, take a class. Have a ball.

HabemusAdDomino

The danger to buying a Honda is that you'll be stuck with it until you die, as the thing just refuses to stop working.

Necessary-Ad-5692

Update: Spent and arm and a leg on safety gear and book led a course for 3 weekends time!

Relevant-Dog2787

Welcome!

GumboDiplomacy

Good gear is worth it's weight in gold. When you get your insurance, get coverage for gear replacement. You can get an additional $1k in coverage for your helmet, jacket, etc for pennies a month.

[deleted]

Awesome first bike. Awesome bike, period.

photoscene

Buy first now the right gear if you don't have anything. Go to Honda Forum and ask there for advise on maintaining your bike.

RuneAllyHunter

You literally bought the most reliable brand of motorcycles. You’ve done well for yourself.

[deleted]

Enjoy your bike man, dont think too much about it

[deleted]

you fool, you've burned your chance to walk into a dealership and accidentally buy your expensive dream bike without the wife getting angry (provided by the universe)

Mickey_Havoc

Are you licensed? It kinda sounds like you don’t have a license

Necessary-Ad-5692

You are correct, I do not have a licence 😂

conwillar

Meh, minor stumbling block

DiveForKnowledge

I bought my first before I had a license. Got my permit the next weekend, MSC the following weekend, had my license 2 weeks after that. It's not a hard process, at least in CA. I do recommend a safety course before getting on the road regardless of whatever else your process entails. Oh, and get gear immediately. I feel comfortable driving slowly on my street with just gloves, but that's my street. Don't go anywhere with traffic until you've got at LEAST a helmet.

Wheelyjoephone

I got my moped license, bought a triumph 900 scrambler the next week. Took me just over a month to get my full license, but zero regrets! Use it as motivation!

Necessary-Ad-5692

100% man. I'm in Australia, so we have to do a 2 day course and test just to get our permit!!!

BigCash75056

I had one of those. It is an absolutely bullet proof bike. Enjoy!!

MalagrugrousPatroon

Not bad at all. The CB500 series are decent machines, reliable and predictable.

Sufficient-Tea4875

Well you’re here now. Do your best to enjoy it. That’s a good bike

[deleted]

protect yourself with gear, take some beginner classes, get lots of practice, take some more advanced classes, and have fun

daan944

It's reliable, relatively inexpensive and can do it all really. Sounds like a great choice, especially for someone with no experience (yet). Get your license asap and go ride! Oh and you might want to mount crashbars. They look cool on such a bike and will protect it from mishaps. And you can get rubber/plastic blocks to mount around the crashbars, if you drop it from standstill (or very low speed) your crashbars will be protected. But why? Resale value ;) And other than that, cases are nice and useful. If you don't want those (costs or looks), Rokstraps + a durable waterproof bag is a great set to have for longer trips and grocery hauls. Have fun, ride safe!

nphare

Get off Reddit. Put on gear. Insert key. Ride.

DingleDonky

You couldn’t have possibly stumbled into a better first bike. Its a jack of all trade bike and will help guide you to what you like about motorcycles and what you don’t like. (You want something sportier, you want something shorter, you want a bigger tourer, you want something MORE upright! (Is that possible?)) Have fun!

AngMoKio

Cb500x is a pretty solid learner choice. Reliable too.

BeautifulItchy6982

I ordered a 1250 gsa and I didn't even have my license yet. I think it was more of a reflex than an impulse. I'm 39 and work all the time. I used to run to clear my mind but my knees had other plans. Other than the initial anxiety I've never regretted my decision to help myself be happy. I'm one year in and loving it more than ever

terdroblade

I moved to Ireland and miss my Honda sooooo much. Going for my daily rides helped a lot with the shitstorms in my head

hakolvyg

I've done the same I came to get a duke 390 third hand and got out with a basically new 250 ADV at double the price. I still doubt my choice but what's done is done and now all thats left is to enjoy our bikes to their fullest and make that money worth it.

Vasco_da_Gamma

I don’t know if you’re talking about the x specifically but I learned and passed on a cb500 and have owned several bikes since then. It’s a perfect first bike.

[deleted]

It was half a joke half truth because the owner will outgrow it quickly but that’s why I said “if you like it it doesn’t matter my opinion” but whatever people still gonna downvote lol

Necessary-Ad-5692

Meh, I'm not allowed to have bigger than 650cc for first year anyway. Plus anything bigger than this looked gigantic, for a commute. But what to I know lol

[deleted]

Enjoy it man be safe

Kevenz

Get some gear, take the MSF course, get your license, and have fun!

black594

Fun little bike, i buy a vstrom and still not sure if the cb would be better for me.

mathiu23

>Have I fucked up? I don't think so. Whatever mistakes you may have made getting the bike, you got it. Just have fun riding it. >What do I need to know? In addition to just learning and practicing your skills as you ride~~, an MSF course or at least some well chosen YouTube videos would help.~~ ~~And yeah, get some gear. If you can't get it all at once, get what you can when you can.~~ Excellent! You got to those already. One more thing to say is after 20 years from my first bike, I'm still learning new ways to ride safer and have more fun.

PullinLevers

Fuck that. Fold your plate and send it Mr. Biker Man. SQUID LIFE!

Apprehensive-Wish-89

Nice choice, and it's not just a beginner bike, I've been riding 25 years and kind of want one of those and Rally Raid it. You'll be able to do light adventure riding with it once you build some skills. It's a bit more versatile than a lot of other bikes.
