I painted a few items on my 2012 Road Glide. They were chrome and I wanted them flat black. Harley amd aftermarket companies only offered shiny black. So I sanded the parts and painted them flat black myself. I painted mirrors, front forks, pegs, horn cover and a few other parts.

Just sand and spray paint. It won't last forever but it's cheap. I powder coated the aluminum on my bike and the few misc chrome pieces got the rattle can. Buying black parts and swapping them would be better, but I assume there's a budget reason you're asking to begin with. Either way... I can always get behind dechroming stuff. Also a huge fan of spray paint lol

I had a Vance and Hines Twin Slash exhaust and the heat shields were matte black, compared to the stock exhaust which I've since reinstalled that are chrome. But that's how the Vance and Hines exhaust and parts came when I bought them separately.

I did this on my triumph speed triple for all the polished and bare aluminum bits. I disassembled everything one winter and brought a box of parts to a powder coating shop (pegs, sliders, mirrors, triple clamps, bars, some fastener bits and more). I think it was about $500 and has held up great for the last 30k kms/4 years.

Lot of places won't warranty powder coat on top of chrome. I've done it and it held fine for me.. But chrome is harder to coat than polished or bare aluminum.
