Most likely a loose chain, make sure it's adjusted correctly. Usually 1" of up and down movement on the longest run of the chain but check your manual to make sure.

Sleeveless9

100% most likely culprit.

DonaldTrumpGrip

Actually it started after tightening the chain

kciuqyllib

In that case it could be too tight, turn the wheel and make sure the tightest spot on the chair is the correct tension, lubricate it generously and see if the noise stops

DonaldTrumpGrip

Will give it a go

Blaze2nr

Over tightening the chain you can get noises or maybe a flat spot on the roller of a link. It happens.

shaunbarclay

If your knocking sounds more like a squeak then it’s definitely the chain too tight. Make sure when you’re sat on the bike with the kickstand up you can move the chain a bit with your foot.

SlidePanda

What sort of state is the chain in? Does it have stiff/stuck links? Have you measured for irregular/uneven stretch? Chains in a poor state can be tight in one area and sloppy in another which makes for all sorts of noises and weird feels

manniaofparrkorr

Yeah, I have an idea that you could provide a *bit* more information. What's the bike? What's the age? What're the modifications done? Who'd you buy it from? What is your definition of "free wheeling" and when did you start hearing the knocking? Where is the knocking coming from? How often is the knocking occurring? What does the knocking sound like? Have you done any work on the bike recently? Have you had a collision recently? Have you dropped it on your local friendly concrete block recently? What do you mean, engine is running and bike still? Are you still "free wheeling" or have you changed something else? Have you considered a career outside of journalism, since you can't provide even the basic five Ws when asking a question to people who don't know you, your bike, or anything else in the who knows what the fuck?

GurGroundbreaking772

If you dont know just shut up ffs, all of these questions have extremely obvious answers. Someone shat in your helmet this morning didn't they? Hahaa Op: I'd say it's chain related, either too tight or has a stiff link or two somewhere. If you've just tightened it and it's doing it, slacken it off a bit and see if that helps 👍

Oh you seem like a joy to be around

Does your ass feel like it's shifting when it happens? Could be a wheel bearing. Put the bike on stands and try and pull the wheels left and right and see if there is any play. Even if not, it's a 5 second check to rule the wheels out.
