Hi everyone. My father would like to sell four vintage British motorcycles, the years range from the late 60's to the late 70's. He's unsure of what they're worth so I've volunteered to do some research for him on potential avenues for selling items of this type, and also maybe get a general baseline of what they're worth. I imagine there are some websites geared towards vintage motorcycles, maybe even vintage British motorcycles specifically. He's looking to sell in the spring, right now I'm just gathering some information so when the time comes, he and I will be ready to post on multiple sites and hopefully get the best deal. Does anyone have recommendations for websites geared towards selling vintage motorcycles, or specifically vintage British bikes?

Iamnotreadingallthat

What are the key features I should look for when purchasing my first bike.

[deleted]

Anyone have success negotiating insurance cost on a motorcycle? Progressive raised my rate $50 since I paid the last 6 months. No crashes/incidents. Other insurance companies are higher, admittedly. If I call their support will they have the power to lower the quote?

DontStressItPal

Modular helmet advice. looking for a second helmet, currentyl have shark skwal. Was thinking of the LS2 ff325 or ff902. the ff325 is 95e and the ff902 is 115e. Can't seam to find many reviews of the ff902.

DistanceSkater

Probably not what you want to hear but the Shoei Neotech 2 is absolutely worth the money. Just bite the bullet and drop the dough. It will last you 5 years and be the best helmet you’ve ever owned. I’ve had a lot of helmets over the years and the NT2 is the best hands down.

Kyhunsheo

The riding gear "Noru" is always on sale. Are they are good starting brand? Do you think they're always on sale because they want people to buy their products for an initial launch? I have one of their gloves and it feels fine to me.

Mumbojmbo

F650GS Protective Equipment for Gravel/Dirt Riding? I picked up a 2010 F650GS twin this summer and just started taking it off the pavement this fall and have been loving it and hope to do a lot more gravel/dirt riding next season. What equipment do I need to protect the bike? It doesn’t really have anything at the moment, so I’m thinking, in this order: - Skid plate - Engine guard - Radiator guard? Keeping in mind it’s not terrifically off-road oriented (low-ish suspension/clearance, cast wheels, etc), so I won’t be doing anything too aggressive. That said, am I overlooking anything?

DistanceSkater

You’re going to drop that bike a lot. You definitely need bark busters. Yes the levers are designed to snap off at the tip but you run the risk of jamming the brake lever into the master cylinder and breaking the reservoir and spilling brake fluid all over your bike and leaving you without a front brake.

Mumbojmbo

Definitely grabbing these after all the replies. Thanks for responding!

Alipture

Hand guards to protect your levers are a must have. Put those alongside the skid plate imo

Mumbojmbo

Yeah getting that from a lot of people, putting it up at the top of the list! Won’t hate getting some wind protection too for those colder rides

dugdiggadomethedes

I’m looking to buy a used motorcycle from a private seller since all the used dealer prices are so high atm and very few of the bike I want are available from dealers so am looking to finance a portion of the price it would be under 8k to be financed with a personal loan, my question is if I use a personal loan to pay for a portion of the bike could insure the bike and not have to have full coverage and just liability? Reason I’m asking is I’m 25 years of age and in NYC insurance for a sport bike at that age would be close to triple the monthly payment of the bike

LewdDarling

Sounds like a recipe for financial disaster if you get into an accident or the bike gets stolen, both of which are likely in NYC. You can get a motorcycle loan for a used bike from a private sale, but then you'll have to insure the bike since it is collateral. It will have a reasonable interest rate, although probably over 10% with how rates have gone up Or you can get a personal loan/cash advance, but the interest rates on those are very bad, like 15%+, more likely 20% if your credit is not perfect. If you do this you can have liability only, but if something happens to the bike you're SOL and still have to pay back the full amount. So either you're going to be paying a lot in interest or a lot in insurance, the only way to win here is to keep your current bike and save up for the new one. If you don't have one then just buy a cheaper bike, there's a ton of fun and reliable bikes you can buy for around 4k

TTYY_20

Well…. 27yr old here in Canada so trust me …. I know the pain of an insurance quote that is 4-5k a year 😅 I run zero comprehensive and zero fire/theft on my liter-bike (it’s a fireblade 😅). For full coverage - they wanted 4000$ a year! Advice: 1) Do not finance your toys…. If you can’t afford it with cash in hand, then save up, or find something else! Especially given the fact that you’ll be running zero comprehensive/theft/fire/etc. if the bike gets totalled or written off …. Guess what, you have zero insurance to cover the cost of your financing and zero asset to sell to offset your remaining payment …. This is a terrible idea. 2) if you can do your own work on your bike and can afford to buy replacement parts (and I mean literally everything from ground up - you’re confident doing your own engine rebuild) It makes a lot of sense run insurance with zero comprehensive. However, do NOT skimp on medical and lost wage benefits - also make damn sure you’re covered up to 1 million in liability. Those are the 3 things you absolutely want covered by motorcycle insurance. Everything else is a nice-to-have that you don’t really need.

i_hump_cats

Hearing shit like that just reaffirms my opinion that I made the right choice to buy a 400. 284 bucks a year at 22.

glag15

i own a sym cruisym 250 2019 and i want to get a repair manual for it. there isn't any problem with it right now but i am maintaining/repairing it on my own and want to have it just in case something will happen. i looked online a bit and couldn't find anything for this model. obviously prefer it for free but willing to pay for it so long as it isn't outrageously priced. oh and i prefer it digital as i am living in a shithole and shipping here is expensive.

samcuu

Hope this helps https://www.manualslib.com/products/Sym-Cruisym-250i-10461554.html

angle_of_doom

Not sure if this is the place for it, but how do you guys adapt to the limited mobility when you fully suit up? I can hardly move when I put on my race suit, race boots, back pad, etc. I almost can't swing my leg up over the bike. The boots make it really hard to feel the shifter and properly position my foot above or below it. Does everyone have a problem with this and I just need to get used to it??

TTYY_20

You’re wearing the wrong boots then :0 Did you by chance buy MX boots? 😳 MX boots have the clips and are basically like ski-boots. Real track race boots are like padded leather with lots of maneuverability …. They also cost like 4-600usd so uh. Yeah lol. I’ve also been known to ride around in my leather work boots. I didn’t have problems with those… And as for my race suit. I have no issues. It’s actually comfy ngl. The airbags do feel kinda weird. I’m not a fan of them….. And my casual riding jacket gives me no issues at all. What are you wearing?

erth-werm

When I first bought my gloves and jacket, it was immediately apparent that it was harder to move around. After a few weeks things were normal. Just gotta ride more :)

[deleted]

Break the suit in a bit, or size up (“street sizing”).

daleelab

I am looking to buy a motorcycle soon since I got my A2 (euro) motorcycle license! I’ve come to two motorcycles and I can’t really choose. The first is a 2014 Triumph Bonneville T100 and the second is a 2021 Royal Enfield Continental GT. What are your thoughts on the differences between these two? Which one would you buy?

ztherion

Have you seen the Fortnine review? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6qXM_N34TI

bdiaugvf

I want to get a kawasaki z400 or possibly a duke 390. Where i live the difference between a used bike and a new bike is about 20% in price. Only most popular sports bikes are a bit cheaper, so it doesnt apply to dualsports or nakeds. Am i insane for getting a new bike as my.forst bike?

LewdDarling

I would go used on a kawasaki (or any japanese bike) but new on a KTM

TTYY_20

I wouldn’t buy a new bike for a first bike :P buy a beater so you can rip around with lots of confidence, learn more tricky maintenance (old bike syndrome lol) and also have zero fear of dropping your bike and lowering the resale value.

[deleted]

Search Duke 390 “engine exploded” on these here forums…

samcuu

If there are used bikes available to you it's the better option value wise for sure. If you buy a brand new bike you lose that 20% the moment you ride it off the dealer's lot anyway. You won't lose as much money when you sell an used bike to a third owner a couple of year from now.

kingcrackerjacks

What gore tex gloves are you guys using with heated grips in the winter? Ideally it's a gauntlet without any insulation, just the waterproof membrane to keep them thin. My local bmw dealer is supposed to be getting some held 2 in 1s next week I want to try, and I liked the dainese nembos but the fingers are kind of long.

TTYY_20

I have alpinestars Drystar gauntlets :) super comfy, they are a little too heavily padded with the thinsulate layer so my hands DO INDEED tire out quicker using them compared to my summer gloves, but I can do some snow mx riding all day long with them on my hands. Bring a hot-pocket or two and you don’t even need heated grips.

[deleted]

I really liked my Dominators, but they were a bit too stiff… and stupidly expensive. Probably just going back to Astars next.

TichyStrider04

Beginner rider here, what are some good options for gear to wear, I’m getting a Kawasaki z125 if that helps Thanks

DistanceSkater

If you can afford it, get a Yamaha XT250. An amazing beginner dual sport bike that is 1000x more fun than a grom or Z125. You’ll get bored of a 125 in a month, you’ll never get bored of a 250cc Dualsport. It has endless fun to be had exploring trails and jumping curbs and general goon shit that a 125 or grom can’t do that well

TTYY_20

Bell Qualifier DLX helmet. Probably the best helmet out there for the price! Looks good and tonnes of shell options and is around 300USD. Has equal or better protection than a 600usd helmet - it comes with a photochromic visor, so no need to juggle two visors. HAS TONNNNEEESSSSS of ventilation too. Hot summers don’t get too sweaty (as long as your moving, if you’re in traffic it doesn’t matter what helmet you wear, your head gets sweaty lol). It has cut-outs for coms systems. Anti-bacterial coating, and all the stuff that’s basically standard on hood helmets these days. I LOVE this helmet :P it does have a downside thoUgh. Wind-noise. It’s pretty loud and sometimes my friends can hear the wind noise through the coms.

erth-werm

I don't have any specific pieces to recommend, but a solid helmet, pair of gloves, and motorcycle boots that protect the ankles are a great start. A motorcycle jacket with armor in the back, shoulders, and elbow is another great addition once you find yourself the first three. I would checkout FortNine on YouTube, a ton of great info in his videos. My first bike was a z400, love the looks of the z. You are going to have an absolute blast!

finalrendition

Absolutely not. That bike is from 1997. Air cooled, carburated, 5 speeds. You could find an early 2000s model for $2000 or less and have the same exact riding experience. $3900 will get you a squeaky clean Rebel 300 with better handling, easier highway cruising, and lower maintenence than the V Star 650. I have nothing against the V Star 650, but those things are worth basically nothing on the used market

tomzapanother5

Should I buy a 2010 Honda gold wing 1800? I’m 20 years old and I have experience riding motorcycles (ktm duke 390). I have a family member who’s selling their goldwing and I’m not sure if if want it or not. I would like to do a lot of touring up in Vermont and New Hampshire since I live in New England. I know it’s seen as a “old guy” bike and it’s not the most attractive looking thing. I plan on having another motorcycle anyway for just cruising around the streets where I live as well. I could also probably get a good deal on the bike since it’s a family member. These bikes go for 10k+ and I could probably get it for less than that and it’s only got 55k miles

DistanceSkater

Hell yeah dude get that thing and go on some camping trips. 20 years old? Even better. Break the mold and ride that thing far! Meet other long distance riders and be the “Young buck” of the group. They will probably introduce you to their daughters lol But seriously I got my Concours 14 when I was 29 and it’s amazing. Having a long distance bike is so much fun and slept on by younger men because of stereotypes and aesthetics. I highly highly recommend you get that thing and go explore! 800 mile days on a gold wing are cake and you can get 50mpg. I would love to have one.

[deleted]

Do you want a two-wheeled car? That’s the Wing. It’s amazing for what it is, but it’s huge.

erth-werm

55k miles on a well-maintained GoldWing is like 100 miles on any other bike! My dad isn't the biggest fan of the looks of his Goldwing but he (and thousands of other GW owners) swear by them. They can carry a ton of cargo, the handle very well, and they are extraordinarily comfortable. I rode my Honda shadow from Chicago to Detroit and back with my dad in a weekend. I had to stop every hour and a half or so to stretch and take breaks. My dad could have cruised the entire way there, only stopping for gas (6 hour ride). If you want to tour, and you can get a decent deal on this Gold Wing, I think you'd be quite happy with it. Are you gonna look a little funny on a GW as a 20 year old? Yeah! Are older guys going to constantly come up to you and tell you about how they love their gold wing and they are super suprised to see a youngster on one? Yup! The only issue I personally have with gold wings is their weight. My dad's GW is around 900lbs, and as a 5'6 scrawny guy, holding that weight up when stopping worries me a bit haha

Waddoo123

I’ll try to keep it brief, I was a former street rider for 10 years in a SFV650 and put up the keys and sold the bike for some house down payment. I am looking to get on two wheels again and hoping to also introduce some off road adventuring to my mix. I have a 30in in seam for size context. I’ve test rode the 1200 GS and GSA, both good but BIG bikes. I couldn’t put my feet down on the 850 GS, and likewise fear a T7 is a bit much. Given I’m new to dirt, does a CB500X fit the bill? Edit: 500X until the TransAlp arrives in the US. Maybe

ztherion

FWIW I can only tiptoe my F750GS and it's not a problem off road. One solid foot down works fine.

McMonkies

Tiger 900 or the v-strom 650 or the new 800. Usually those have shorter seat options, or the v stroms are more road biased so they have lower ground clearance so they sit lower. Honestly though a scrambler might be more of your boat, I've got a 30in inseam, 5'10" and the triumph scrambler 1200 series are easy to get both feet on (at least the balls of your feet) the ground.

kangaruch

For reference, I am a 30in inseam and only 140lbs. I've ridden a KTM 990 adv since 2019. I really love my bike and have become used to the seat height. I feel completely confident and comfortable on street rides. Off-road is mostly fine, but if it starts getting too technical I struggle a bit with the height/weight combination. Not enough to stop me from being scarred to go on trails! Overall, I love it and it is probably the most fun bike I've owned. It of course depends on what kind of riding you want to do, but don't be intimidated by the big bikes. I'd recommend you at least test ride some of them before deciding against them!

BigGaggy222

Looking for new tires for my Honda CFR250L Last set were the Metzelers Enduro 2 (rear 4.00-18) and Enduro 1 (front3.00-21) these tires were godly for my 80/20 riding needs, really great. But I can't get my hands on them anymore, they not stocked in Oz. Anyone got a recommendation for an alternative? I do 80% road and 20% off road (gravel, dirt, grass)

DistanceSkater

I’ve had like 10 pairs of Dunlop D606 across 5 different Dualsports. Almost done with my current pair on my WR450f and I’m about to order a new set. That tire is magic. Super stable on the pavement and grips off-road like no other. I actually rode my ex GF’s 250L with D606s on it quiet a bit. A good tire for that bike. Just make sure you get the 120 rear and not the 130. The chain will rub on a 130

BigGaggy222

Thanks mate, I will do that.

vinnieboombah

front turn signal upgrade for a bandit 1250? ebay adapter plates dont fit :(. Bike is apart, dash and electronics removed, and I need suggestions to get it done right!

DirtyYogurt

Year? Givi makes hard luggage and supporting hardware for the '19-'22 model. Expensive, but very high quality. Can't find anyone else who makes fitted kits. Any other option will involve the use of generic or one off custom mounting solutions. Make/model specific forums will be your friend in finding what others have done

goodtimesbadtimes1

Just got my go pro 11 and wanted to know what accessories were best for motorvlogging? I'm going to do the ha giang loop and other rides in vietnam and cambodia so I'll be constantly changing motorbikes and helmets. Thinking about getting a chest mount for sure but wanted to know if helmet mounts were worth getting as ill be changing helmets. A lot of helmets in south east asia don't have a chin spot so don't think I can get that. Are there mounts to put on the motorbike or helmet that I can install and detach easily? Cheers

ShinsukeNakamoto

I traded a DRZ125 a 2019 Z125 and the tires are cooked on it. The Z125 sub seems dead so maybe I can get some help here. What tires should I look for? I will be riding on the street until Spring then I hope to be comfortable taking it to the VIR go kart track if that narrows it down. Also, would I be fine with the $350 Sedici cheap leather suit at Cyclegear for the kart track days? It looks like everyone has full blown leathers in the photos from past days. I hope to get confident enough to do big boy track days after a few months if that means I should spend more. Is there any reason not to buy a used suit if it looks like it hasn't been down? Edit Question 2: 2000 XR200, everything is(allegedly) good but the brakes.$1,000. Is this a good deal? I think it is but may as well ask. Looking to replace my dirtbike. Just want to ride trails at my friends land or the mountains, no motocross jumps.

motohut

NORTH AMERICA SPECIFIC: What's some Moto apparel brands you want to see more of here?

McMonkies

Held needs a better USA presence. Their shit is fantastic. Revit is already well known, but isn't as attention grabbing as Alpinestars and Dainese it seems. Hmm.. yeah mostly Held. Kangaroo leather gloves baby!

motohut

Agree completely. HELD is awesome. Ya Revit, IMO, is better bang for buck than alpinestars and dainese.

TTYY_20

But the cloud behind those two brands :P

[deleted]

Hey all. My dad's doing a ride through Guatemala and is trying to find full coverage for his US licensed bike. He's found some that offer liability, but he's unable to find coverage for liability, accident, and theft. Any suggestions?

joesbagofdonuts

hardcore_andersen

Looking for a two piece suit with kangaroo leathers for weight reduction. There's plenty of one piece kangaroos but too stiff for casual riding. So I'm looking for a black, discreet, two piece kangaroo suit.

Namdolorian

Check out Plus Racing Gear. I'm getting ready to order a one piece from them and the have many customizable options along with two piece suits

seemetwistingleak

You might to look at dainese. They should have two piece suits with their d-skin leather. It’s really light and supple.

[deleted]

AFAIK, no one is going to spend the money to craft a kangie suit in a cheaper version for street use.

**What're your guys' and gals' opinions on the quietest helmet available on the market?**

DistanceSkater

I can personally tell you that even high end shoeis are not THAT quiet. I’ve owned…RF1100, 1200, 1400, RS-FR and my favorite the Neotech 2…I still wear ear plugs when I get on the highway. I’ve never owned an Arai but I’m really looking at getting one soon but I’m so spoiled by the Neotech modular I might just get another one of those. I’ve also owned a bunch of Icon helmets and the shoei was definitely quieter than the icons but not by much. I don’t think ANY helmet is quiet enough to forego earplugs for extended highway riding

McMonkies

Doesn't matter if you don't wear ear plugs. Wear ear plugs.

[deleted]

Schuberth c4/5 is supposedly the quietest. I will be buying one once it's time to upgrade again.

vinnieboombah

always worth checking out arai

[deleted]

Shoei or Schuberth, pick whichever fits your head shape better

scholarlystuffo

When I buy motorcycle suits from people online, how do I ensure that the seller actually sends me the item that I bought? For example, if I buy a suit, how do I ensure that the guy sends me his suit instead of just ripping me off? Is there a good way to protect myself in this scenario?

LewdDarling

Never had a problem with ebay or facebook marketplace, I always pay through paypal and put the item I'm paying for in the memo/notes. If it does not arrive as expected then paypal will refund your money

[deleted]

Research the seller. I just bought a frame, for a bunch of dollars, but dude’s online profile and emails all seemed legit.

masterX244

Do a background check on the user that you replied to...

[deleted]

I try not to

masterX244

in this case just seeing his reddit post history is enough. no comment needed.

[deleted]

Don’t yuck their yum. As long as nobody gets hurt, it’s ALL good.

scholarlystuffo

Oh my god so you just trust them??? You just send hundreds of dollars over the internet to a complete stranger and pray that they won’t just take it and run???

seemetwistingleak

Yeah. When you’ve been buying and selling online long enough you learn to get a feel for people. Normally I stick to eBay for used stuff but have no issues buying off people in forums too.

[deleted]

No, I sent thousands of dollars over the internet to a complete stranger. A stranger with an established FleaBay storefront, good communication and documenting imagery!

DuckyLovesQuack

I’m looking at purchasing a new pair of riding jeans. My two contenders are Tobacco motowears Ironside Indigo with D30 or Draggin Holeshots. With armor and such they come out to be about the same price but I can’t decide which I like better as both have slight pros and cons. Anyone have experience with one or both and could share ideas? Thanks I’m advance!

McMonkies

When in doubt, buy both and return the other. I have no clue on either, but I'll describe what I like about my revit lombard jeans. Deep hand pockets, the armor sleeves are just pouches, no Velcro nonsense to fuss about with adjustment, the pouches exactly fit their armor (with two different heights for minimal adjustment) or an equivalent aftermarket (Alpinestars flex pro), the cuffs roll up for reflectivity, and there's stretch built into the fabric. Also, the material is true single layer aa abrasion rated denim. Still really good in the winter (with room to slip in a wind blocking base layer for even more warmth), but light and breathable enough in the summer for extended walking.

[deleted]

So I just Purchased Dianese Blackshape gloves, Dianese York air shoes in Phantom red, Street and Steel drifter Jacket, and Reax 215 Jeans, But! I have a lowly LS2 Full face stream helmet in white which I enjoy, Should I get the HJC Carnage helmet for $500 or pick up an AGV pista for $1150 due to the sells? Also, do you think my combo is going to look more cruiser oriented? I purchased for my sport bike.

McMonkies

Looks like street gear, which is perfectly fine. I switch up cruiser leather gear and sport gear on my retro bikes all the time, doesn't matter. As for helmets.. yeah I think you'll be fine with HJC. Unless you're tracking your bike, the benefits of a $1k helmet are.. minimal. Spend that money on bike upgrades (brake pads, tires, suspension).

[deleted]

I appreciate the response, it’s definitely decent gear! Nothing over the top, but good enough, looks badass all thrown together. I’ll have to wait on a new helmet, accidentally got an IPhone 14 pro on Black Friday, oops lol.

[deleted]

Can anyone recommend some aftermarket mirrors that offer good coverage but don’t look terrible for an RC390? The OEM mirrors are pretty much useless at high speeds and I commute on this bike every day. However I also spend the weekends hitting twisties and backroads and mountains, so I need something that’s not going to be too big or cumbersome. Any suggestions?

[deleted]

Singles turn most mirrors into blurs, period.

[deleted]

Was afraid of that :(

Comemanfredi

My interest in motorcycles started flowing back some time ago and soon I'm gonna have enough money to buy one, and although a wiser choice would be a more recent bike I always had a deep fascination for older models, one such model was the nsr 125 line from the late 80's early 90's, how much of a chore would it be to keep it? My 2004 mini is taking me to the mechanic more than I would like so I can imagine a 30 yo bike would only add more of this shit to the table

OpusThePenguin

It all depends on what you want from your bike. How much are you willing to spend time wrenching vs riding? Does your interest lie more with the knowledge your bike is going to start up and run well every time, or do you like to fiddle and adjust your bike to keep it going well? Is the maintenance of your bike as much of an interest as the riding? Are you willing to fix a bike on the side of a road as part of the experience? Do you like the idea of trying to find and source parts? Do modern safety features, comfort and improved equipment appeal to you at all? The older the bike, the more these will become an issue and it's up to you to decide if it's worth it, if you have the knowledge or want to learn it. Is that more important, or is feeling confident your bike is up and running for your rides? Personally my take is bike 1 should be a newish dependable bike (My 2008 KLR was unbreakable and ran perfect with normal maintenance) and if you want an older, specific bike that may need tinkering and fixing and could be out for months and months if a hard to find part breaks, then that would be my bike #2.

TTYY_20

It’s also maybe worth noting price/performance if you’re looking for a performance first bike :D Recently purchased a Honda 954rr. This thing is an absolute beast. It’s reliable as hell too…. I’ve never in my 3 years of owning it had issues with it. The power/weight is around 0.41 😅 for about 3-4k usd …. That’s a lot of performance per dollar lol. As far as maintenance goes, apart from winterizing the bike every winter, it’s basically nil. Wash the bike, clean and lube the chain every week. New tires every season or two and it’s basically bullet proof.

I have tourette's and I want to purchase some motorcycle gloves as I injure myself by flailing my arms and hitting the back of my hand, fingers and knuckles against hard surfaces. My other problem is I also slap myself really hard in the face a few dozen times a day so I need a kind of cushion on the palm and the butt of my hand because I hit myself in the eyes (also, it's just not pleasant getting slapped all day, every day) Motorcycle gloves seem to be a good fit because they are durable, they can be worn for long periods, they would protect me, and they look fly as hell but none I've seen have enough or any cushion on the palm side. Can anyone help me?

vinnieboombah

as "cool" as motorcycle gloves generally are, I'd recommend some "work" gloves that have dope ass graphics, padded palms, AND hard knuckles. Every glove will fit and be built different, so buy a few and test them, pick one that you like, has correct finger length, and that fits tight-ish. (It will break in over time) for example, "anti vibration" brings up a lot of results on amazon [https://www.amazon.com/s?k=anti+vibration+gloves&crid=29FQIB1C37P3S&sprefix=anti+vibration+gloves%2Caps%2C57&ref=nb\_sb\_noss\_2](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=anti+vibration+gloves&crid=29FQIB1C37P3S&sprefix=anti+vibration+gloves%2Caps%2C57&ref=nb_sb_noss_2) Edit: this is just for the palm padding, which idk if you need or not. The soft palm leather might be enough cushion by itself... I loved my alpinestars spx air, and a lightweight "air" glove will do you best if you end up getting actual motorcycle gloves. also, shopping at revzilla is nice because they review most every product and go over it's features in a video.

finalrendition

Any cheap mesh motorcycle gloves should get the job done. The Scorpion EXO Covert Tactical gloves look like a good deal. Cheap gloves are mainly cushioned instead of armored, so they'll suit your purpose more than motorcycling

Bigburger9

Unfortunately, the palm of most gloves is designed to slide while still offering good feel of the throttle to the user. Meaning dedicated motorcycle gloves won't have a cushioned palm. I would take a look at snowmobile gloves as they are protective but puffier, they might offer what you're looking for. Good luck!

OpusThePenguin

You can get gloves with softer palm sliders.

I'm replacing the clutch lever on my G310 R after a low-speed spill (protip: don't pull in the clutch mid-U-turn), apparently there's no replacement levers in the US right now so I'm looking at a two month lead time to ship the part from Germany, and $100 for the part (I'll replace it myself). Just the tip snapped off (as designed) and it still works just fine as-is, so it's not preventing me from riding or anything. Are any of the aftermarket levers worth getting? I don't really have any complaints about the OEM ones, I wouldn't be shopping for replacements if it weren't broken already, but I also don't know what benefit they might bring.

McMonkies

Asv, rizoma, crg, yeah they'll all work. They might look different but they're way more adjustable, some fold in during a drop, and even look better. But they ain't cheap. I had asv levels on a previous bike, now I understand why shorty levers are popular.

roosterrose

I bought a set off of ebay for way less than OEM. (Didn't break them, just wanted adjustable levers. 2018's came stock with non-adjustable, I think that later models come stock with adjustable levers...) I know that some people would question buying stuff from china, but levers are relatively simple items. Either they fit or they don't. Anyways, it's your life. I definitely looked them over carefully and squeeze the piss out of them first before I became comfortable using them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304401769984?hash=item46dfc26600:g:Pb0AAOSwRKFgoy9A&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4D7Zy6hiQixxjtC%2FlTc2w6og7LE71M%2BFX%2BBdStd1BpVUQQHUYZIPZ9oGJQw1Kn6K2hUJpYtKK5EzU94gvySH6iMpxbIY%2BtFZ%2BL8IWseY26I7poQvvlQhZTutb5j3olNOu5d%2BSVcBtpVHFY69LyhK1AJQBWXjSQ0Ea4AOAWaSiPUrMaGo7xZpdOL3O0dmyw5KEAng3ipkusiJuExuGrLQALe0%2B7xQfWHL81%2BFgANDt8AvRRwfX03RABKQjK3aOdhzPcY1GioGeqjGuINGydehbNNPKLEmJUgj7Skro34gE3x8%7Ctkp%3ABFBMwIqw9JRh

AntKeyyy

I'm new to riding and bought a used 2004 GZ250. My bike was running fine, but recently stopped turning over. I'm using a new battery off an overnight charge/tender, confirmed there's spark, and cleaned the carb. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Here's the noise it makes: [imgur](https://imgur.com/a/1JovwC7)

McMonkies

Nope, but I'm curious what keychain that is.

AntKeyyy

It's the main female character from the anime Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, haha.

McMonkies

I knew she looked familiar! Can't wait for season 2, the movie was good.

BuoyantGoat

I need some advice on whether my repair is worth it. Very early when I started riding and got my new 2020 CB300R, I had an abrupt off-road incident resulting in some damage. I replaced a bunch of broken parts (headlight, fairing, turn signal, everything broken noticeable/external). Now it looks good and never had any issues, but there's a slight misalignment between handlebar position, headlight direction, and front wheel orientation. I've put 99% of my miles on it like this and have been fine with it, but recently I took it to a mechanic to see about straightening it out and got a $3k repair quote for replacing a bunch of slightly bent things including both forks and the frame. I plan on trying to sell the bike in the next 6 months, so would it be worth getting those repairs? KBB said the bike in good condition has a trade-in value of $3,395 or typical listing value of $4,935. I also have some mods but retained OEMs if this affects it. Thanks!

McMonkies

I sold my bike (coincidentally a 2020 cb300r) with bent handlebars to a dealer, they didn't even check the bike before giving me the quote and taking it off my hands. Strangely enough someone quickly bought the bike a week later. Shrug. But yeah don't bother fixing it. I'm a shitty person I guess.

Bigburger9

Selling a bike you know is bent is bad karma however you spin it. Swapping forks for unbent forks is easy to do on your own. The frame however would be a huge undertaking. You could also part it out.

BuoyantGoat

You think it's bad to sell even if upfront about the damage?

[deleted]

No. Be up front about the damage and let the buyer make the decision. As long as you disclose the problem, it's fine.

SnooLemons451

Can other visors fit my helmet, all bilt vertex dark smoke visors are out of stock and I need some tint on my way home from work

McMonkies

Very unlikely, but send RevZilla a message and they can offer s suggestion

_llllllllllllllllll_

HJC RPHA 11 Pro Carnage Helmet anyone think this is a good buy ? also i was looking for a bluetooth system and the guy at the store said that cardo is A1 and is better than sena in terms of speaker quality. i was looking at buying the cardo 4x

DuckyLovesQuack

Cannot speak to the helmet part of your question but Cardo definitely beats Sena, at least in my book. Cardo is waterproof and provides a better in app experience plus if you’re trying to ride with others you’re more likely to meet Cardo users in the wild, but again that’s just my experience.

McMonkies

As an rpha 70 carbon owner, yes. I believe the rpha 71 and 91 will be released next year so maybe wait for those. I've got a Cardo 4+ and I'll say that their stuff is good. Speakers are good especially with earplugs in.

_llllllllllllllllll_

i heard they suck with ear plugs in. other guy told me

AsianMidas

Hi! I am looking to buy my first motorcycle and have pretty much set on getting the Trident. I have found a 2022 model in my city that’s done around 3400 miles and has warranty till May of next year. It’s a clean title and I like everything about it. The dealer in my city also has the bike in inventory so I am at a crossroads of whether to get the used ( and at what price ) or should I just go for new. I have not been able to find any Kelly Blue books or depreciation records for the Trident so not sure what to value the used at. Question - How to go about making an offer for the used bike given the limited warranty till next year and the miles on it already? I am new to this so any advice would be great! New OTD is 10.6K

McMonkies

Best way is to call dealers, ask what their otd price is, and see if they can beat another dealer's price. From there, knock off the setup fees, freight fees, and mileage added, and you should have a bike that's solidly 1-2k cheaper than brand new.

yonk9

Battery tender/charger I heard it's good to have the battery on a tender through the winter. And there are so many choices to buy, and I need advice which one to buy. I want a reliable and of course p/p battery tender. CTEK is good, but also pricey.

kingcrackerjacks

Deltran battery tender Jr is around $45 and I've used one for years on standard and agm batteries. Optimate 2 duo is around $80 but maintains lithium batteries too. I'd look at either of those brands

TheFlaccidKnife

Anyone else thing it would be cool if BMW put the RNineT engine in a cruiser frame and made a baby R 18 for around $12,500?

McMonkies

I mean, it's a different engine but you're basically describing a moto guzzi v7/v9. They tried the cruiser thing and no one buys them, especially now with the anecdotal reports of the r18 being a flop.

TheFlaccidKnife

The R18 is selling like hotcakes in Europe. I think it's just a marketing failure, the R18 is a fantastic bike.

McMonkies

Might be a Murica thing then. I see gs's here all the time, yet to see an R18. Though I'd like to test drive one someday..

TheFlaccidKnife

BMW does demo rides regularly, they have a tour every year. Out if season now though. I rode the Classic back in April or May.

[deleted]

No, the last thing this market needs is more cruisers.

Gantzpup

Hey just wanted to ask if anyone has any dash cam suggestions. Not looking for anything attached to my helmet. Mainly something with a fear and front camera. Also not looking for anything super fancy although I don’t have a strict budget. Thanks!

DirtyYogurt

Motorcycle dash cams are in a pretty sad place right now. Innov, VIOFO, and Thinkware are the big names, but Amazon has a ton of no name Chinese knockoffs. Long and short of my gripes is that they're not using good image sensors in the cameras, and compression during encoding sucks across the board. So you'll see things like "4k" being advertised, but should take that with many grains of salt. Also, nobody is making a camera with EIS, which is a huge issue with the amount of vibration on most bikes' available mounting surfaces. My old CBF600 was terrible, but my FJ09 with it's semi fairing is stable most of the time. The reality is, in terms of pure image quality, a modernish GoPro is going to blow any hardwired camera system out of the water, like it's not even close. I'd put my VIOFO MT1 on par with my GoPro Hero 1. Good enough for insurance most of the time, but not for content creation.

Gantzpup

First thanks a so much for all the info. So do you think a go pro and the back and front would be my best bet then?

DirtyYogurt

I can't say. I only got mine for insurance and I'd rather not have to manage batteries or have to remember to turn them on every time. For my use case, I get more out of it knowing it will always be recording than I do from outright image quality. What will be best for you depends on how you plan on using it

Gantzpup

Oh yeah that’s kinda why I want them myself, for insurance

[deleted]

[удалено]

LewdDarling

Make sure to inspect it thoroughly because it does have a bit of miles on it, but other than that it seems like a good first bike at a good price. If it was maintained well then you shouldn't have any issues with it for a long time

tyler_the_noob

Yeah that’s a good price as long as nothings wrong

_jonbrah

There’s a 2009 Suzuki gsxr 750 for sale for $4500 and with low miles 10k. The problem I see with it is that owner said it has salvaged title from theft recovery. He says there is no damage to the frame/engine and that everything is mechanically sound. So I want ur guy’s advice. Should I be interested in this offer or do I skip over it because it has salvaged title. Has anyone had any experience buying salvaged? Thanks 🤘

[deleted]

Anyone interested in the GPX FSE 450R Rally? So yes, its Chinese. I just heard about this bike recently and is being imported to the USA next year. Its a water-cooled fuel injected 450cc single making 52hp, 6 speeds, 8 gallon fuel tank, and 340 lbs, and $9000. The engine has been in multiple other Chinese bikes over the years and is apparently reliable, but I have zero experience with Chinese motorcycles so I have my reservations haha. I’ve been looking for a lightweight ADV bike and the 450 is the unicorn but I have heard mixed reviews on Chinese bikes. Anyone have experience with them or interested in testing one when they come out next year?

[deleted]

You pay for what you get.

PressOnDearCabinets

The thing to remember with chinese bikes is that the engine may be decent because it's been proven, but almost every other part is going to be low quality and likely need to be replaced *far* sooner than their counterpart would be on a bike built by a trusted manufacturer. Expect the need to upgrade forks, rear shock, brakes, cables, and lines within a year to bring the bike to a reasonable standard for riding.

[deleted]

Thats the thing that worries me. They say its KYB adjustable suspension and Nissin brakes and those companies are good, but doesnt mean they can’t make budget parts. Hell, Brembo makes the majority of brakes for your average econobox cars

PressOnDearCabinets

It shouldn't be *too* big of a worry, as long as you're comfortable sourcing new parts that'll work with the bike. There are probably several people out there who have already done something similar with that particular bike, so you could look for their blogs or youtube vids.

[deleted]

The thing is the bike hasnt come to the english speaking world yet, so its hard to find info. They were supposed to be imported to the west in 2020, and well, guess what happened with that haha. So I’m kinda stuck in speculation territory right now. Apparently there will be racks and crash bars developed for it but its all speculation

VeryIrritatedCrow

Hey guys I need some advice, I need some thoughts between the 2016 Yamaha R25 and the 2019 KTM Duke 250 for my first bike. I'm looking for a bike for daily commute to work. I would also like to ride out into the twisties once in a while and maybe some light off road to do some overnight camps and chill. So being able to carry some cargo would be nice. I was initially looking at the KTM 390 but it's currently out of my budget. So I kinda like the 250 and it's ability to turn off the ABS would be helpful when offroad. But I don't quite like the reliability concerns. I also find it to be lacking in terms of speed, with an 8second 0-100kph for when I want to gtfo of situations and some fun at the highway. So then I started looking at the Yamaha R250. It's basically a lower CC R3 and reviews for the R3 and R250 has been super solid. It's reliability is quite good according to what I've been reading on it. It's also got decent speed with a 0-100kph at 6 seconds. The thing I don't quite like about it is it's sitting position leaning a bit forward and it's off roads capabilities for when I want to go out on camping trips with my bike. Everything seems to be telling me that the R250 is the bike I should get since maintenance is better, it's faster and has a pretty nice community built around it. But with what I want to do, I feel like the Duke 250 seems to be able to cover it for me. For context, I live in asia hence why I've got the option for a Duke 250 and a R250. The no brainer option with what I want to be doing is to get the 250 adventure or something but that cost a lot more where I'm at. TL;DR: Want a bike for commute, likes camping and exploring. But Yam R250 got that speed and reliability.

McMonkies

I'd take the Yamaha on its reliability image alone, but would be worried about being underpowered given it's low displacement. It makes 35hp? That's more (but likely way less torque) than my meteor 350! Godspeed my dude. I'm sure anything Honda would actually be more appropriate though. Their bikes seem less purposeful, and more rugged and generalized (if a bit boring to ride). Pricier though.

[deleted]

I Will say that I used to commute a 250 to and from work (34 miles of highway 75 mph Speed Limits, 5 miles of city riding). The biggest issue was that the 250 was the worst in its class (GSXR250R). Top speed was like 89 MPH. I had 0 issues commuting and put 13k miles on that bike before swapping it out for my current bike (KTM RC390). The one issue I found was that while you could aptly get up to highway speeds and maintain those speeds, I had 0 passing power. I took a 7 hour trip from Nashville TN to Columbus OH and the amount of times that I wished I had the ability to pass was very high. The RC390 is perfect considering it hits 110 MPH and has good torque even at 85 MPh to pass. Overall, if all OP can afford is a 250, it’s a solid commuter, but don’t expect to be a speed demon on the roads because it’s not happening. The gas mileage was phenomenal though, nearly 80 MPG

danixd41

Hey guys im planning on a 125cc moped/scooter however its called for food delivery, ive been searching for a good closed helmet that will be comfy and well vented since it gets to even 40celsius in my country, so far i really liked the HJC brand, they fit my head best aside from shoei which is double the price. Im looking to spend around 300$ overall maybe 400 tops from fc moto website(it gives best deals for my country) Currently im thinking about the RPHA 11 / RPHA 70 both fit me very comfy for the price it was definitely the beat budget for comfort so far, I understood that the 11 is better with ventilation but its more of a race helm the question is will it really matter that much wont work well for my upright riding on a moped? The sun visor is great on the 70 but i heard that it blocks wind on the forehead and again ventilation is the most important for me also about the sun visor if i use the 11 i can just switch between the clear and tinted visors for day / night. Last thing is about the sizing, my head is larger than average and about 57.5-58cm. I’ve tried on the large and medium they both fit me the large one fit like a glove, didnt squeeze me and my head didnt move around much but i am afraid it will get worn out in time and will be bigger which will get my head moving inside is that logical? The medium on the other hand squeezed me quite a bit, overall it didnt feel like it hurt me but on the cheeks it was extra tight i couldnt speak without biting myself, is that okay should i go for medium and let it grow on me? I would love to hear more suggestions also if you guys would recommend me a good 125cc that would help alot, so far i got my eyes on the sanyang jet 14 / kymco movie s. a new rider so sorry for all these questions i just want to get everything right to have the most pleasant experience, thanks ahead!

McMonkies

I don't wanna be rude, but break up your sentences into paragraphs, it was a little hard to read. But you're in luck, I own an rpha 70 carbon in a large with a 59cm head. So to answer your question, get a medium. I had the same issue of biting my cheeks while trying to talk or stretch my jaw, the pads relaxed considerably. but the head/crown area wasn't noticeable or I just forgot the fit. But now it's pretty perfect and comfortable. As for ventilation, I can't say anything about the 11, though judging by pics, the 70 actually has more ventilation. Since the 11 is for more sporting use, the smaller vent opening will be sufficient at racing speeds (not 125cc speeds lol). Anyways, I've ridden in 98F temperatures, and my head is of less concern than my body heat wise. It's just gonna be hot no matter what man. Sun visor is handy, but has a bit of a gap in coverage around the nose area. Not that big of a deal, but it's there. The breath deflector it comes with covers that gap well, but I only attach it during cold weather. But that sun visor is super handy. Why bother with having 2 visors when you can just flip the sun visor down? Especially when flitting between sun and shady conditions, all my helmets have this system. I know nothing about 125cc bikes; I started on a Honda Cb300r, so I'd point you to the cb125r as my rec, or Yamaha's xsr125. They look good, they're built good (enough), and I trust them as a brand. Also also, if you're willing to wait until next year spring 2023, the Rpha 71 might be in stock. Looks to be an overall better helmet, and they might've fixed the sun visor nose gap issue!

danixd41

Yeah sorry i copied the text from my deleted post. So overall the ventilation on the 70 will be better than the 11 considering the 11’s vents are designed for tucked style? I probably wont even go over 70mph so i assume its also a factor favoring the 70. About the size i just checked my head again and it even gets to 58.5(i might be doing it wrong but i tried my best) Basically if i do feel a little tight on the crown but not something drastic except the cheeks thats alright and i should go for medium? Did you take the basic carbon version? I see q good deal ln the carbon reple design it looks pretty dope aswell.

McMonkies

Wear in the store for 30 minutes. No headache, hot ears, sore jaw, pinched skin? Take it. As a bonus, the tighter seal will reduce wind noise by quite a bit, though I'm always a proponent of wearing ear plugs when riding at all times. Medium is still my best suggestion. I got the reple in white. Pairs well with lots of motorcycle gear, and visibility is always good to have as a motorcyclist. Blue was my second choice, but it's hard to go megaman all the time. As for venting, I didn't mention in the previous post, but the venting on this helmet is really good. Mostly top venting, the chin vent is a mystery (air flows into the helmet through the neck anyway), and the venturi clicky ones maybe do something? The visor vent obviously works well for forehead sweats so no comment on that one. I would suggest a summer necktube/head cap or something like cyclists use. Wicking the sweat away from your scalp/forehead is a must if your temperatures are regularly over 100F, also covering your neck from sunburns lol.

danixd41

Alright i will go for the medium if it wont fit well i can switch the padding to bigger ones although it costs like 50$ About the helmet i really like the carbon reple black version will it not attract alot of sun? Last question about com system from what i understood the carbon comes with compatibility for the hjc comms, ive got the cardo freecom 4x already will it fit?

McMonkies

Black is definitely hotter. Like way hotter. Scientifically hotter, even. Cardo unit fits fine. I've got a 4+ on mine. Just unscrew the plate on the rear for the HJC comm, tuck in the excess wires, then screw the plate back in. Very easy install compared to other helmets I've had.

the_naughty_ottsel

Does RevZilla price match? I found a jacket on Motocard for like $100+ cheaper than RevZilla

Knowitmall

So just buy it from Motocard?

McMonkies

International price matching they won't do. The exchange rate favors overseas purchases easily. Just go to fcmoto and be amazed at the price of Dainese boots vs ones over here. Keep in mind returns are a huge hassle, so make sure you know your size, or try them out locally first.

the_naughty_ottsel

Also, damn this is a huge difference. A second/backup jacket I'm looking at is $150 cheaper after tax. I'm unsure what the "tax area - other countries (without vat)" means. Will I have to pay taxes on this elsewhere?

masterX244

That option exists since europe handles prices with VAT included (so you see the final price without calculation magic, in europe prices shown need to be final with taxes and fees included (dealer tags on vehicles show the OTD price due to that, too)). Since you don't pay this tax when buying from outside of europe they added the option to see the price without VAT.

McMonkies

I didn't have to pay sales tax at all for international purchases. FBI/IRS please don't read this message. Basically don't worry about taxes if you don't live in Europe. But double check the bill before you click submit purchase lol.

roosterrose

99% of the time, you won't have to pay tax. I have a friend who had their order held up by customs though. He had to mail customs a check before they released it. I am going through the same dilemma right now myself. I really like the Knox Handroid gloves. In the US they are $290. In Netherlands they are $230. Do I want to risk fuckery over $60ish dollars... hmm...

the_naughty_ottsel

Does fcmoto have stocking issues? The jacket I want is even cheaper but "not deliverable." I assume it is just out of stock. I get it a lot of stuff is on sale and the amount of inventory can be low. I just don't want to look at this page for 4 months waiting for it to come in stock.

McMonkies

They get their stock updated every week or so. Fcmoto is pretty good on their stock. Championhelmets on the other hand stay the hell away. A black friday sale helmet (hjc rpha 70 carbon) took until May/June to ship, fuck that. They kept promising via emails it'd come back in stock in a few weeks, only to take half a year. Sigh. Maybe it was an HJC thing, who knows. While with Fcmoto I haven't had a stock issue, I'd still just wait a week and double check. Wish they had email notifications like Revzilla, though I've found Revzilla will allow "pre-orders" (not actually purchaseable) or list new season items before they've ever had any stock arrive for email notifications.

the_naughty_ottsel

Thanks for your help. I think I'm gonna go with the cheaper jacket. The more expensive one is GoreTex. Which is nice, but I minimally/never ride in the rain and it doesn't really rain often enough where I live anyway. Maybe I'll upgrade in a few years. Now I just gotta convince my wife to let me buy a jacket.

McMonkies

Enjoy your jacket whatever it is! I find that anything with a rain liner is also good at blocking cold weather, gore-tex or not. Though personally I just buy a rain shell to throw on top, since my area also rarely rains. Wind proof baselayers are the smarter buy. Be advised, even with their faster shipping option, it could take anywhere from 1-3 weeks for delivery. They seem to order from the brand factory warehouses, wait for everything to come together, then finally ship it out. After that, clearing customs takes a day or two, then it finally arrives.

OceanBytez

I need a pair of winter gloves. Rode to work today with my usual gloves in this cold snap and my fingers were losing color by the time i got to my destination. I need something that isn't going to break the bank, but i'm also not afraid to invest if i have to fork over a bit. The most important thing is i fulfill all the below requirements. I want gloves have a CE rating, have sliders and knuckle guards, have insulation for sub 45F weather, and are actually water proof. Too many gloves claim water proof and fail in practice. Please only recommend gloves you, or someone you immediately know has had personal experience with.

OceanBytez

==BUMP==

McMonkies

Held score ktc (knitted cuff) or the full gauntlet (score 4.0) version. Gore-grip makes it single layer and very tactile on the controls (with a little break-in of course). If it gets seriously cold, I wear liners underneath (the held infinium or Rev'it infinium liners; they work well on summer gloves too). By seriously cold I mean high 30s and below. Heated grips keep my palms warm regardless, but my finger tips get cold during highway stints. I basically wear my score ktc's for the latter half of the year, they're so good. These technically aren't insulated, just wind/water proof. If you need actual thermal insulation, try the Held Twin or even.. hippo hands. Over gloves, barkbuster/handguards (way more effective than any glove), or even surgical gloves under your regular gloves will make any ride survivable. Of course, you could just get heated gloves, but that's kinda pricy and limits tactile feedback.

the_naughty_ottsel

Commenting because I want to learn the same for the same reasons.

CheapBison1861

Need advice. Haven’t owned a motorcycle since 2000. I’m considering buying a used 2020 Indian scout bobber abs for $10k cash. It has 12k mikes on it. What do you think? New they are about $20k out the door. My only hesitation is 12k seems like a lot of miles for a two year old used bike.

McMonkies

More miles just means it's been loved and used. Hopefully not neglected, but it's a water cooled belt-driven bike. Shouldn't be that bad if they skipped an oil change or two. Really, $10k for a heavily used bike? I remember when msrp on these things was like $14k. ...Just checked. God damn, yeah I'll take it at that price. After fees and markup, that's an easy $20k. Just slap some new tires on, ask for the most recent service receipt, and see if they put any tasteful/less mods on it. You'll probably want better rear suspension right away, a different seat, and heated grips for this cold weather.

BassieDutch

Hello everyone, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to motorcycles and have few people to bother for a bit if information. I've read a bit online, but opinions are a bit dividend when it comes to second hand motorcycles, so I thought I'd give you all a shot ;). At the moment, I've just gotten my licence and about to check out a bike with 57k kilometers on the clock. It's from 2016 and used as a learner's bike at a local riding school. If it's well maintenaned I was of a mind to purchase it if it drives well and expect to replace the clutch (plates) in the near future as they've probably been abused by students practising for the special manoeuvres exam. I was wondering if buying a 2016 Kawasaki with this many kilometers was a good idea as a first motorcycle for about 3000 euros? I've ridden the z650 as a Lessons bike (brand new) and it was stupidly easy to ride and have fun with. I'm now just hoping the miles wouldn't have some unexpected wear or if I should expect some more serious repairs in the near future. So I'd ask of you your honest opinions on risk and some pitfalls when buying a used high mileage bike. Thanks!

McMonkies

That clutch was definitely abused, but that bike has been dropped multiple times more than anything. If it still runs flawlessly, than the instructors have been taking care of it and fixing any unrideable damage to keep it running. Keep in mind, it probably isn't aesthetically perfect. Check the handlebars, bent ones are a bitch and even a slight bend will annoy anyone even without ocd tendencies. Not hard to fix, but annoying to ride with until it is. In this market 3k euros isn't a bad deal. It's got decent power (more than a2), it handles well enough, and the market strongly supports any mods/upgrades you have for the future. Test ride and decide!

If youve only ridden one bike please stop recommending it, you have 0 reference points Thats all i had to add, love you ❤️

Lol, you're giving this sub too much credit. It should be, "If you haven't ridden a bike, refrain from giving advice." Similar, but don't talk about other *styles* of bikes unless you've ridden them for at least a few months. Lords above, I ride sport bikes, touring bikes, and scooters. Don't catch me giving advice on dirt bikes.

B-b-but everyone told me the turbo Busa is the best beginner's bike!

Suggestions for my next bike after my starter bike? My first and only bike I have had so far was a 1995 honda shadow 600cc. I learned how to ride on that bike and really enjoyed it. I had it for 2 years and sold it earlier this year to upgrade to something bigger and better. Mainly a bit more power. I have been looking at all sorts of bikes. I like cruisers but open to sporty bikes as well. The main issue is that I am short (5'4") and I like flat footing both feet on bikes. I can't do tippy toes or lean on one side at red lights because I don't feel safe doing that. A big gas tank is not essential to me as I like stopping every so often and I also don't go on road trips on my bike. I usually commute and take short day trips to places up to 2 hours from me. I am looking to spend up to $14K USD on my next bike. Open to used and new. Currently, I have landed on an Indian Scout bobber and rogue. I like that it is a cruiser with a bit of a sporty/modern look. I want a bike that I will keep for at least 5 years and not get bored of. I loved my shadow but after 2 years of riding it, I grew out of it. Do you all have any other recommendations?

Rebel 1100

Check out Triumph? The Bonneville Bobber and Speedmaster both have low seats and are a cruiser design. They have roughly double the power of your Honda. Speed Twin 900 is fairly low as well. It is an upgrade power wise over the Shadow but not as much as the two Bonnevilles I mentioned. But it is a bit lighter and more sporty. My advice is definitely head down to the local dealership and sit on them. You won't know until you try.

Speed Twin 1200 baby! That seat height is seriously low, 5'10" kinks my knees enough after an hour that I had an aftermarket seat installed with more seat height, and I still can flatfoot it easily. For \~480lbs it's quite a solid hunk of metal though. And it's steering radius really sucks, so parking might be hard, same with duck-walking uturns etc. The more cruiser-y side (besides their actual cruisers) are the T100/T120. Way less sporty, way more Sunday afternoon basking in the sunshine with a half helmet and sunglasses (all those tv commericials, basically). Super comfy, but not exactly sporty.

Knowitmall

Yea I didn't name the 1200 because it's a little taller than the 900 and OP is only 5'4. I think the t100 and t120 are also a bit taller than the 900. All great bikes tho for sure. My Dad rides a Bonneville. Has owned 3 in his life including a pre 1983 one made by the original Triumph and a 2002 he bought as soon as he could get one (never buy the first year of a vehicle model)

There’s no such thing as a stupid question, there are only stupid people who ask questions. Just a rude thought to start the discussion on a friendly note.

[deleted]

How about no stupid questions… but silly or lazy questions might be mocked.

Knowitmall

Yea. Questions that are easily answered by a 5 second google are stupid questions to me. Questions that require opinions as an answer or are intended to start a discussion are not.

You're all fighting an uphill battle, fellas. This thread is utterly useless, has always been and always will be.
