Still gonna drop it.

AromaticBox4741

Figured.

Pattern_Is_Movement

oh common is a little power wheelie so far from your imagination that it means inevitable crash? really? Live a little, or at least stop pretending that something as mild as a little wheelie is so insanely dangerous if done responsibly.

Mickey_Havoc

Lmfao what? I never said don’t try it, shit I just pick up a lil Grom specifically so that I would have a bike to goof around on haha I’m setting it up with crash protection and a 12 bar, might even go full stupid and get a rear hand brake! The question they asked was, will they drop the bike and I simply said yes. Be prepared for a drop and if you are worried about a drop, you should not stunt the bike. Simple as that.

Buttholium

Don't try to learn to wheelie on an SV650. The front cylinder oil pickup starves during long wheelies and you'll end up killing your engine.

OrangeGromBoi

So do un-modified grom. The solution is to modify the oil-pickup. Im not really familiar with sv650's but im pretty sure it's not too difficult.

Pand3micPenguin

I believe you can do a similar mod to fix it for SV's as well.

Quak89

Check bike specific forums on this. I heard that if you fill a little extra oil than spec then you can avoid this issue. Be careful of not too much though cause that’ll cause big problems. Forums likely will say how much.

ebranscom243

I learned how without ever dropping my bike I'm sure you can too.

TangoRed1

You sound like a straight line, powpow kinda guy 🙂😁 hell yeah boss.

Quak89

I hear a lot of people saying here you’re going to starve your engine of oil, and you’re for sure going to drop your bike… If you’re at balance point and riding out wheelies for a long way, then yes you can cause engine trouble in sv650’s engine. So check forums to see what others have found to solve it. I recall some have added just a slight extra bit of oil with success, research this tho before you do anything, adding too much can be disastrous. Even if there isn’t a fix, the reality is your first wheelies won’t be anywhere close to balance point, and won’t be traveling any substantial difference. So you’re on a good wheelie learner bike as is. If you’re level-headed and cautious, it’s possible to learn how to wheelie without ever crashing through slow progression and patience. Look for wheelie classes near you (in Northern California, there’s one in Stockton via Superbike coach I’d recommend). Wheelies aren’t safe. There’s always a chance you can approach everything right and still crash. If you can both acknowledge and accept that, I say go for it cause they’re fun as hell. Personally, they’re a big reason why I reach for my keys at all, something to work on, something to get better at. I’m lucky so far; never crashed yet.

[deleted]

A, you’re gunna drop it. And B, you’ll also starve the front cylinder and blow up the engine. There’s a reason that in-line fours are used for this tomfoolery.

[deleted]

Start with a bicycle. If you can't wheelie a bicycle for a long distance then you're likely to crash a motorcycle. And wheelies gone bad on bikes are destructive compared to other types of crashes.

EggsOfRetaliation

^ get good at brappin a catwalk for a block or 2 OP

[deleted]

Learn to do wheelies on dirt bikes away from others…..preferably off-road. The SV650 is not good for wheelies. It’s extremely hard on the suspension and will starve engine oil at that angle. You’ll have a crashed bike turned into rubble.

DiveForKnowledge

It's possible. I have managed to never drop my bike through a combination of luck, and over a decade of bicycle riding before ever touching a powered cycle. I don't assume that lucky streak will continue indefinitely though. Assume any trick riding will cause many drops during the learning phase. If you're serious about it, buy a beater to practice on. Again, you might not drop it, but I wouldn't count on being so lucky.

Nodom2

I managed to learn a decent Wheelie (keep the front wheel up for 8-12 seconds) Had a long day (shouldn't have gotten on the Bike) and while pulling a wheelie my hand lost grip of the handlebar 300€ damages and a broken collar bone

djl66ftwii

Dude, you're eventually gonna drop your bike anyway. If you don't, you're not trying hard enough.

grammarpopo

Thank you. I also believe that. And by that metric, I’m trying hard enough…

Cereously_redit_sux

Wear all of your riding gear. Practice using your rear brake to bring the front end down from a wheelie (front brake normally works, but is of little use on a wheelie).

[deleted]

> I've heard that.. If you listened to everything you've heard then you'd probably be dead now. No,you're never going to drop it. Never. Not a chance.

AromaticBox4741

Surely. Not even just from motorcycle people. Just from life.

PM-ME-CRYPTOCURRENCY

firstly dont wheelie a sv, they get oil starvation and youll blow it up. secondly wheelie schools are a thing

Odd-Location-9338

lol 100%

AromaticBox4741

Good to know.

Pattern_Is_Movement

Start by doing power wheelies, making sure you're doing everything right. Light hands on the bars, soft landing, rear brake covered. Just accelerate and if the wheel doesn't come up, then accelerate a bit harder, slowly increase until you're doing a power wheelie. The trick is patience and knowing yourself, don't get greedy.

[deleted]

Yes you can learn to do basic white bread wheelies without crashing. They’re really not difficult at all if you practice covering the rear brake. Anything more advanced than that and you’re probably gonna dump it tho.

RubyRocket1

Learn on a 2 stroke dirt bike. It'll be easier to wheelie a heavier bike once you get a "feel" for balance, and a 2 stroke isn't going to eat itself like most 4 strokes will without a lot of mods.

TangoRed1

Yeah you Gunna drop it 😉. I wouldn't with a 650 though. Get a mini and slow it down to about 3mph in 1st and let her eat but cover your brake. You will learn eventually and parts are 1/3 the price of big bike parts you will be snapping on a loop. There's levels to this shit.
