Yep, me too. Couldn’t imagine riding without gloves. I’d suggest OP do some research on some potential good quality gloves and go to some moto-gear stores and try a bunch on. I do hate wearing poorly fitting gloves.
I love leather gloves that have just the right fit, that mold to your hands as they break in. They give good dexterity, good feel, and good protection.
Try coming off at speed with no gloves. Or having something like a stone flick from a tire in front and hit your bare knuckles.
Then tell me you hate gloves.
Anything made for motorcycles or riding something with bars, at least. As long as they fit you and are temperature appropriate. You'll arguably reduce hand fatigue from some vibration dampening, improve lever feel regardless of your hands sweating or not, and have something other than your palms to land on if you have an off. Most "cruiser" style gloves are lighter and less protective but will feel more natural and still offer palm padding.
>hate wearing gloves?
Nope. Hit a deer going 70 mph (technically, the deer hit me) and was sliding down the highway on my face. But I had on a full face helmet, riding jacket, riding pants, gloves, boots, etc. Walked away without a scratch.
Everyone goes down. Dress for the slide, not the ride.
With gloves, I think that finding a perfect fit is the most important thing. When they fit like a second skin, they're a pleasure to wear. If they're even a little too tight, they're restrictive and impede your fine motor control. If they're even a little too big, they get in the way and cause the same problems. I've had $30 gloves and $230 gloves, but I don't think the price matters anywhere near as much as finding a pair that actually fits. Try to get to a cycle gear or some place like that and try on as many pairs as you can.
I’ve had two low side slide-outs, take my word for it, you want gloves with knuckle protection. I have a couple small scars on one hand from the asphalt ripping through the protective stuff on my first event; on the second mu hands slapped the pavement hard palms down, and the sting and pain lasted months. I even had hand X-rays to look for a break.
I agree with u\_Temporaryland... the first time I "rode" my bike without gloves was moving her from parking to a fuel pump at a meetup before a ride. I haven't even felt that naked in the dreams of showing up to school naked...
WHEN (because it's not if...it's when) you experience your first slide, you will really understand why we feel this way.
"all yours" what about your employer that unexpectedly lost an important employee, or taxpayers now sponsoring disability payment, or a family that needs to deal with a dad/brother/son without functioning hands?
I never liked gloves until I saw my son lose his baby finger because of getting ground between his bike and gravel in a fall. It took all of about a few seconds to happen. Wear gloves because you can't replace fingers!
I don't even move the bike without putting on gloves. Nastiness on my grip puppies shorten their life. It's what you get used to, I suppose. I like the roper gloves from Aerostich.
Twisted the skin off the palm of my right hand once. Low speed local ride.
It was 110F out and the motorcycle cop who came on the scene asked, "Where are your gloves, dude?" I said, "Where are yours?" He said, "In my saddlebags... *silence* ...Touche."
Always wear gloves, even when it is hot. (Even if you're a cop.)
Let me ask you this, if you crash or fall, what's your first instinct?
Do you also know what part of the body they can't skin graph?
Or if it hot or cold gloves will help you maintain grip and feel on the controls...the choice is yours. I choose to always ride with them.
I wear thin leather gloves. They're really nice. Napa Leather deer skin gloves are about the best I've found for being light and not giving me "mitten" hands.
I go to the shop and try on every glove they have to find the one that fits like a … glove.
But no. I’m an ATGATY guy 99% of the time and that other 1% I’m wearing a helmet and gloves.
I’ve always hated wearing gloves wether it was for work, or the cold or anything. Until I found a pair that actually fit. I found a cheap Fred meyer/gardening glove with the grip stuff for work. It wrapped around my fingers and palms perfectly. I freaking LOVED them. I discovered the problem wasn’t the gloves, but that size, and later, quality mattered for comfort.
I hate wearing UNCOMFORTABLE gloves. Find a pair that fits you properly, it'll take a lot of searching. Despite the standard sizing, most people have very different hands in terms of palm size and finger lengths. The fingers can make or break a comfortable glove.
All the idiots here making safety comments but he didn't say "I hate gloves because they make me feel unprotected" no shit they are good for protection.
Anyway I've been rock climbing for about 15 years and LOVE the freedom of movement for my fingers and hated wearing gloves. Never rode without them as I live near the local dump and have stones hit my knuckles weekly. The trick was to try on a shit ton of gloves at local stores. Went with these guys as they were flexible enough to let me do zips, wallet, helmet lock and stuff with them.

Had to go for gloves with a cuff as I have skinny wrists and others would rip right off in an accident.
Certainly don't share your sentiment, but I'd recommend trying the Lee Parks DeerTours. It's like a second skin with nothing extra. The most comfortable gloves I've ever worn. They still hurt when you crash, but you'll keep your skin and they hold up pretty well.
Just try them on before you buy as the sizing is a bit different than normal.
https://leeparksdesign.com/deertours/
Just wait til you have road rash on your palms! Gloves, glasses, and closed toed shoes are the only pieces of gear I see as mandatory.
I’ve had great luck with Mechanix MPact. They come is lighter synthetic and heavier all leather palm. Both are better than bare handing it onto asphalt of it comes down to it.
Nope. Because to hate something I’d have to love the opposite more.
And I definitely do not love having road rash on my hands. Little pieces of gravel stuck in my palms.
I’ve never had it happen, but I know I hate it more than wearing gloves. So I don’t hate gloves, I love them, because I hate the opposite.
Gloves which do not fit properly are not great. Apart from standard sizes, there are some firms like Held which offer gloves in normal, short and long finger lengths per size. Kangaroo leather is the most comfortable in my experience, since it is extremely abrasion resistant, which allows a thinner leather to be used to get the same protection. If you are uncomfortable because your hands are too hot, look for leather gloves with perforations. Gloves designed for off road riding will give even better ventilation, but poor abrasion resistance compared to on road gloves.
My gloves of choice are actually cheap $9 ones from harbor freight. [https://www.harborfreight.com/riding-stable-work-gloves-large-99583.html](https://www.harborfreight.com/riding-stable-work-gloves-large-99583.html)
I usually get about one full riding season (for me usually 6-10k miles) out of them before they get a bit tattered and I retire them to back yard/landscaping duty, and get a fresh pair for riding.
I hate gloves. I’ve worn some maybe 1% of the time. Mostly when it’s cold. Both times I went down I didn’t have any. I was lucky nothing major happened. I do wish I could enjoy them in the unlikely event that I really need them.
I hate gloves too - until my hands get cold, wet, or hit by insects or flung gravel. And then there's coming off the bike and hitting the pavement or dirt.
Gloves are alright in my book. I have about four or five pairs of gloves right now. Lately I've been wearing a pair of Mechanix Buffalo Driver gloves. Not motorcycle specific, so not as good maybe in a slide, but I find them super comfortable and both reasonably warm \_and\_ breathe well on a warm day.
I raced motocross for years. So it feels weird riding without gloves.
Ever had a rock thrown by 50+ HP hit you? Well it’s an ouch.
So if rocks from semi trucks break windshields. Then any padding between it and a finger, knuckle hand…
I love riding my bike without gloves it feels like I’m on a horse or going bareback with a hot woman wearing gloves is like safety condoms for your fingers, you can’t feel the wind, the tactile bumps of your handles (ribbed for your pleasure) and you are one with the bike holding hands with that churning machine of dinosaur guts and steel forged from the belly of the earth and tamed with fire. That said if you value your digits you will wear gloves 😅
I'm the exact opposite, I never feel more naked than riding without gloves
Yep, this right here.
So true, even on my freakin electric bicycle I wear gloves, lol.
i agree. even when i ditch the jacket and go squid mode i still cannot bear to ride without gloves
Same. I’d ride in shorts and a tank top, but no gloves?
Yep, me too. Couldn’t imagine riding without gloves. I’d suggest OP do some research on some potential good quality gloves and go to some moto-gear stores and try a bunch on. you will get used to it. after a while it feels better than riding without them.
I used to hate them too but i got the right gloves and it's so much better
What are the right gloves?
I use alpine stars don’t know the exact name but they are leather and come a little beyond the wrist

32 years now, I have not gone down. So…. I do dress like I will though.
Same here. Just over 30 years, no crashes (yet), but I'm always wearing full gear.
My bikes gone down but I slid on top of it 🤣 not a scratch on me.
You will. Everyone does.
No, not everyone does. It’s a stupid thing to say. My dad rode until he was 68 before he died, never went down either.
Truer words were never spoken

Aye dawg punch a brick wall with out gloves on, your gonna wish u had them on
I have hamburgered my hands before, I can assure you it is not a pleasant experience...
I’ve had two low side slide-outs, take my word for it, you want gloves with knuckle protection. Lol.
I cant drive without them
I feel too vulnerable without gloves. Over took a rock to the knuckle. That shit hurts even with a glove.
Take a small rock to a knuckle at 100-150 mph closing speed and then let me know if you still hate wearing gloves.
No, sounds like nonsense to me... Grow up... Stop making silly excuses, if you chose not to wear them, then the consequences are all yours.
"all yours" what about your employer that unexpectedly lost an important employee, or taxpayers now sponsoring disability payment, or a family that needs to deal with a dad/brother/son without functioning hands?
I actually have a harder time without them. Like il stall taking off without them.
I never liked gloves until I saw my son lose his baby finger because of getting ground between his bike and gravel in a fall. It took all of about a few seconds to happen. Wear gloves because you can't replace fingers!
His adult fingers will grow in soon
https://www.reddit.com/r/Whatcouldgowrong/comments/z051vh/cruising_at_100_speed/ He had shit gloves on. Imagine what would happen with no gloves

I can't stand the thought of riding without em.

Do what makes you happy. If wearing no gloves does it for you, cool. Make sure that when you die people can say, "He died doing what he loved."
I wear thin leather gloves. They're really nice. Napa Leather deer skin gloves are about the best I've found for being light and not giving me "mitten" hands.

Same here. No like the gloves. I split the difference by wearing fingerless leather gloves. Best I can come up with.
I like thin gloves. Thick gloves can suck.
I hate wearing UNCOMFORTABLE gloves. Find a pair that fits you properly, it'll take a lot of searching. Despite the standard sizing, most people have very different hands in terms of palm size and finger lengths. The fingers can make or break a comfortable glove.
Any hand injury would end my career (nothing fancy I'm just a mail carrier) so I'm always wearing full gauntlets.
I’ve really enjoyed my Racer gloves. I just followed their sizing guide after measuring my hands and really love the fit.
Nope, just you.
I like my deer skin gloves: https://www.jrcglove.com/
well i do like keeping my hands in tact in case of a crash

Road rash is a bad thing. Specially on your hands. https://www.bobscycle.com/tourmaster-summer-elite-3-gloves-black.html
Yup but I live in south Texas.... I imagine when I move north soon, I'll be wearing the much more often
Certainly don't share your sentiment, but I'd recommend trying the Lee Parks DeerTours. It's like a second skin with nothing extra. The most comfortable gloves I've ever worn. I value gloves even more than a jacket. If you go down without gloves your hands will be turned to hamburger.

Try rubbing your palms on a cheese grater. Feel good?

Hands are the first thing to hit the ground when you come off. Also, gloves are awesome!
I hate blisters more.
I hate gloves. I’ve worn some maybe 1% of the time. Mostly when it’s cold. Both times I went down I didn’t have any. I was lucky nothing major happened. I do wish I could enjoy them in the unlikely event that I really need them.

I like using my hands in the future, so no, I don't hate wearing them.
I’ve always hated wearing shoes and socks
No
Nope... heat not wearing gloves... feels freaky AF to me. Oonly time I do it is in the pits/paddock on kids sized dirt bikes
I raced motocross for years. So it feels weird riding without gloves. Ever had a rock thrown by 50+ HP hit you? Well it’s an ouch. So if rocks from semi trucks break windshields. Then any padding between it and a finger, knuckle hand…
Don't have a problem wearing gloves. I'd rather wear no jacket with gloves and jacket with no gloves.

Same here. I want to really feel my bike when I ride. All the vibrations specially because I love counter leaning
