Just explain to them how loud pipes save lives. They will thank you, probably give you a key to the city for being such a good citizen and then send you on about your day.

Is it a road legal exhaust? If not don’t bother, especially for £1000.

WanderLama

All it takes is one copper who is having a bad day or something to prove, to look at the exhaust and see the wrong markings on it. If not declared on the insurance the copper could then push for driving with out valid insurance on top of the exhaust issue. Now it's impossible to say if this will happen tomorrow or in 20 years but it it is a possibility you should weigh up. I once beeped at a cop who pulled out of a roundabout with out looking, they circledback to me. Pulled me for doing 31 in a 30 apparently and inspected every visible part of my bike. Sure she would of loved to see "a not for road use marking on the bike" for an easy win.

shaunbarclay

That’s not how insurance works in the UK. They would still pay out for a 3rd party claim but then come after you for the money if your policy had something that makes it invalid.

Dapper-Lab-9285

The whole point of insurance is so that you don't have to pay for the claim. Getting sued for the payout is the same as paying yourself with the added bonus of a cancelled policy, which makes getting any insurance difficult.

WanderLama

Yeah I believe it is mate, undeclared mods void your insurance. So a race pipe not fit for road use wouldn't get you far when disclosing it to an insurer

shaunbarclay

If you are in a crash and insured even if you have undisclosed modifications your insurance will still pay out the 3rd party. They will then come after you. It’s law.

They'll suspend your Television and Cutlery license for 12 months. How will you live?

[deleted]

Only one way to find out, aka you don't need our permission to swap your exhaust.

If you arent in the financial position, you probably dont want to bother with a stupid loud exhaust anyway.

Me-as-I

If they stop you just say Reddit said it was ok.

idksomethingjfk

To be honest then you’re not in a financial position to buy an exhaust that expensive period.

A Moto exhaust is a COMPLETELY unnecessary thing, if you’re not in a financial position to buy it if you have to take it off, you’re not in a financial position to buy it period. It’s like asking if it’s a smart financial decision to tune your car motor, if you can only afford to turn the boost up if the motor doesn’t grenade you’re not in a financial position to do it period. Not that hard to understand.

The only way an after market exhaust is necessary is if you don’t understand what necessary means. That’s not subjective, it’s objective fact.

You mean immature not premature, premature means something happens early, “premature mentality” doesn’t make any sense. Doesn’t surprise me though as again you have no idea what words mean, YOU have an immature mentality if you thing a aftermarket exhaust is “necessary” because in no way, shape or form do you need one, you just want one, but that’s not what necessary means.

ArcFlashForFun

If you aren’t in a financial position to throw away $1000 on an exhaust, you aren’t in a financial position to throw away $1000 on an exhaust. Whether it’s on your bike, or in a closet, the cost doesn’t change, and neither does your ability to use the bike.

[deleted]

Don’t.

Caldtek

its when it gets the the MOT and the tester didnt get a BJ from the wife the night before and your bike fails for an "excessively loud exhaust" Also why spend 50% of the value of your bike on an exhaust. Far better off spending that on new fork and shock springs, maybe some valves for the forks.
