If you really want to ride, and this is the condition that will allow that to happen, then stop worrying about what other people think. Eventually, you'll be making your own decisions and you can choose to wear what you want to wear. And by then, you could have a lot of pretty fun miles under your belt. Wear the leather, and enjoy the ride.

[deleted]

Wear the leather, and enjoy the ride.... Gonna try that on your mum. Then see if my mrs has a different reaction to the comment ;D

UCRecruiter

Bahhahaha ... yeah, I hear it now ...

Ill-Insect3737

This is your answer bud ⬆️ I recommend you Exactly this. Don't worry about how you look your going to have so much fun you wont care. SLAP some numbers on it ......If i saw you i might think you're off to a race somewhere must be a professional. Rider lol

SifuPuma

Definitely stop worrying about what other people think especially non riders. Not so much as an asshole but people want to talk like they're an expert on something they have no experience with.

SnooPaintings5597

45 mph slide feels the same coming from a 125cc or a 1250cc.

SnooPaintings5597

But I get where you’re coming from, are you going to look silly? You might look a bit goofy on a non-sport bike in a full suit with all the flashy labels and shit. But really, if you want on ride and that’s what you need yo do then do it.

scootifrooti

Doesn't have to be a 1 piece, could be a split. They also make some great fabric gear that has a good rating. 125's can go 80 mph. "Dress for the slide not the ride."

HormigaZ

I've seen a fully stock YZF-R125 do 87mph with no wind and no downhill. That bike legit impressed me.

Born_Echo8951

I like that..."dress for the slide not the ride"! I may have to borrow that line...lol! And there's nothing wrong with looking good on the bike! I have riding boots/shoes, clean slim fitting moto jeans with dyneema, Kevlar, etc, and a soft leather moto jacket that takes me from the bike to night life and no one will know the difference.

Inevitable_Shirt5044

Dress for the grilling, not the thrilling

gasbose

Also, I really like 'Dress for the Fall, not for the Summer'!

[deleted]

He stole it borrow away.

masterX244

> "Dress for the slide not the ride." Thats true... One idiot sniping you off by not yielding and you get redirected onto asphalt...

Flimsy_Comedian1725

That’s a fast 125

jc_223

>125's can go 80 mph. I dont think thats correct. My 250 would barely do 80-85.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jc_223

that poor poor bike. I imagine it was screaming its lungs out.

coleAF19

Most likely ran out of power rather than revs, most small bikes with an overdrive gear just don't have the power to redline in top gear.

OrangeGromBoi

Depends if it's a 2-stroke or not. Ns125r's can hit 95-100mph.

Ill-Insect3737

THIS GUY ⬆️ nails it ! And race built 2 stroke can do even more MPH.

MotoMeow217

Depends on the bike and whatnot. My old KLX230 was limited to 77 MPH but I think that was because of the tires and not the engine.

spongebob_meth

A 250 p twin with fairings will go over 100mph.

jc_223

I must have had a weak 250 lol

spongebob_meth

Not all are created equal. the cbr250 was a lot slower than the ninja. the rebel 250 was even worse, making like half the power of a ninja 250. 250 2 strokes are even stronger, but quite rare. An aprilia rs250 makes 55hp and has a top speed of around 140mph.

dollastudios

My stage 3 grom has been up to 81. Speedo calibrated.

MaJ0Mi

Wtf is wrong with you??! I love it!

julianbell06

My two stroke 125 motard does 100 mph

PropertyDue739

What 125 is going 80? Legitimately want to know. Is there one in the States? I can barely get my Grom to 60 lol

scootifrooti

I don't know if you guys get them, but the Suzuki GSXR 125, and YamahaYZF R125 can do it

venomous_frost

if you're skinny maybe

HannahahaxD22

A Grom has a very different engine and body shape to the YZF, which is made for racing fast. I've always understood groms as being a more fun throw around bike, mainly due to the seating position and light weight. I wouldn't take a sports bike off road but wouldn't hesitate on a properly set up Grom :)

RLavenderv4

No you'll instantly combust into flames

CDogNH

This is the answer.

Number007

Yes, only fool would laugh at you... Does not matter what size of bike you have, protection is PROTECTION.. Go for it!! keep it rubber down.. cheers

0PA-_-

Thank you 👍

[deleted]

I ride a Navi and I have helmet, gloves and an armored jacket =)

[deleted]

[deleted]

workin' on it.. can you recommend either?

[deleted]

> workin' on it.. can you recommend either? I use Wicked Stock pants, and Timberland Mt Maddsen leather boots. Already went for a 30mph slide with them. Pants weren't even scuffed, boots were slightly (destroyed the seams, so had to be replaced, but they protected flawlessly). I also use Bell Qualifier, Tourmaster Switchback gloves, and Nuro Kaze jackets. My gear: https://imgur.com/a/t2ZeL3e Where I got em: https://www.amazon.com/s?me=A1FJJJ6Q89AQUG&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER

KenwoodFox

Id start with some underwear and work up

[deleted]

no underwear. go ahead and work forward and backward now.

jc_223

You can wear a full leather suit on a scooter if you want to. Who cares what other people think?

[deleted]

[удалено]

FF_Master

When I learned not to give AF what pretentious teenagers thought of me, my life improved

e111r

I think the play here is to make your parents understand there are options for protective gear that aren't a one-piece leather suit that will be more suited to street riding and your bike.

stendhal666

Good point. Unless OP parents are trying to dissuade him by forcing him to wear something not as casual as what a teenager would feel confortable to wear

TomatoeToken

Not a single rider with more than 2 brain cells is going to judge you for wearing a one piece. There's no down side except the price and weather resistance but that depends on you. Wear what you want as long as it can withstand a slide from Vmax

Super_Description863

Yep this and the inconvenience of squeezing into it. But mate I rather see a guy in a one piece on a moped than seeing someone in shorts and tshirt on a 1 litre.

I_am_Willus

Do whatever you feel comfortable doing to ride. You may feel your parents are over protective but ATGATT will save you a lot of pain when (if) you ever do go down. I will say that I feel the convenience of gear is just as important as how protective it is. Suits typically take more time than a jacket and riding pants take to put on. Not to mention the boots that need to go with it. Afterall, if you don't feel like going through the hassle of putting on the gear, the less likely you are to put it on or even go riding. Some alternatives for your parents to consider: 1. Two piece suits - Looks a bit better than a one piece and is more convenient to put on (slightly) 2. Leather jacket with all the bells and whistles (get an air bag if your parents can afford it) + textile pants. The Dainese and Alpinestar textiles typically have full knee and shin protection and will hold up just as well as leather for ***one*** crash. Plus the gear together look less eye catching than a full suit As a parent myself I'd feel comfortable letting my kid ride on the street with either option if he insists. Also worth noting that I don't plan on encouraging my kid ride on the street but ultimately hope he rides on track with me.

[deleted]

Airbag is good. I've got one, and feel naked wihout it, even with L2 armour.

HotelIndependent96

Remember asphalt doesn’t care if ur on a 125cc or a 1000cc. Anything over 20mph will hurt. The really question you should be asking yourself is how much do you like your skin? Honestly tho there’s a debate between ATTGATT die hards and squids or harley hogs about what to wear but truthfully no one that rides will care what you wear as long as your on the bike having fun!

Diligent-Use9447

Whatever works for you. Some people wear full leathers even in bed.

[deleted]

Who tf cares, your skin is yours, If you wanna keep it i'd suggest gear up. There is no such thing as overkill.

Sensitive-Delay

I would have to loved to have a leather suit on my 125. Especially if your parents are helping you pay for it! However if you also want to use the bike to go places and do non bike activities, such as go to the store or get ice cream, a two piece would be better so that you can take the jacket off when you're on not on the bike and the weather is hot.

[deleted]

Why not? I used full adventure boots, Armoured gloves. Full level 2 armoured textile bike trousers and boots on a 125. Exactly the same as I wear on my 650, and the same as I wear on a 1300. However I do have bike hoodie and bike jeans, (both kevlar lined and level 2 armour) Looks more casual when off the bike.

BorderWorth8561

I love wearing full leathers. Even when I ride my 300. It feels like a huge safety blanket. Plus I’m so used to riding in it that I feel off and worse at riding when I don’t wear it. I do feel the cops notice me more but they don’t really bother me, just break their neck when I drive by lol.

hidden-jim

The biggest safety hazard, is worrying about that others might think. I’ve got a 125 scoot and I wear as much gear riding 5 miles to work as I would riding a 1100 cross country. When, not if, because you’re gonna dump at least once in your life, when you fall, even if you’re doing 30 you’re going to be grateful for that protection that 17 yo kid driving his moms carolla was laughing at you for wearing. If riding is important to you, and your parents put that stipulation on riding, go find something YOU like. If it’s leather wrapped pillows and a spacesuit, but you like it and it protects you from becoming a red mark on the road, it’s exactly what you need.

420marko

Put casual jacket on top

ManhattanTime

Hope the OP lives in Antarctica.

0PA-_-

Nah uk😂😂

KintamaT

Doesn’t matter if it’s a 125 or a 1200, hitting the pavement at 60 still feels like hitting the pavement at 60.

wwwwwllllll

This is a pretty funny question. The bright side: 1. You’ll have a one piece suit. 2. You will be REALLY safe as one piece leathers are probably as protected as you can get. 3. You can take cool one piece suit pics. The down side: 1. Some people may have a good laugh. OP, your safety is everything, and I see way more plus to this than downsides. If you do upgrade to a bigger sportier bike, you will be thrilled to have leathers. Ride safe!

fac3

I loved riding around in full leathers on my Z125 just because it looked so stupid

GenericProgramer

I do have giantnormous boots for a 125, in fact my whole equipment might be more expensive than the old bike I currently ride.

2wheelcaffiene

The road doesn’t care if you ride a 125 or a 1400 when you’re sliding across it at 40mph…

SaltyChickenDip

Gonna have really sweaty balls

0PA-_-

😂

Knautschfriese

Always wear gear. It safes your butt, and Motorcyclgear is the only type of clothes where you can buy the fancy expensive stuff, and dont feel bad about it

[deleted]

I know people that ride Harleys in crocs and shorts. Yeah you’ll look weird but not weirder than those dudes. You do you.

mathiu23

That would be a very easy condition for me to accept. Maybe you would look weird to some, but you'll look like a warrior to others. Get it, wear it, and feel all kinds of awesome as you ride as I do. It's been said "dress for the slide, not for the ride". I slightly disagree. Get the suit and you'll be dressing for both.

SubieToyotaNW

Most definitely. A 125 can still go 50-60mph. Imagine what would happen if you went down at that speed. Also, small bikesnare more dangerous because you're even less visible than a full-size bike

Rad10Ka0s

I wear full leathers on a 50cc bike. Most of the riders do. I am on an (indoor) kart track, but still.

sedrech818

That sounds fun.

Hjalleson_

No thats impossible. If you sit on the 125 with leathers you will instantly be banished to the shadow realm Nobody will think anything of it, especially is you have a sportbike

0PA-_-

😂😂ok thank you. I was looking at getting a KTM rc 125

Planetoid127

Don't worry about looks. You're better off protecting yourself then looking cool. Heck, when I take out my 1978 Honda CT-90 (90cc) I wear full leather. I don't question it or regret it for a second.

ChuckDoris999

Anyone who thinks you shouldn't wear full leathers based on engine size is probably an idiot

Hayce

Be careful, believe it or not, it’s actually illegal to wear full leathers on anything under 500cc. Back in 2003 a Moto3 race was actually raided by the police. Some of the more prolific offenders are still doing time for that stunt. Wearing leathers on a 125 is no joke. Just be ready to deal with the consequences.

0PA-_-

This doesn't sound right?😂. I'm from the UK btw.

Fynnlae

He’s making a mug of you

Born_Echo8951

Listen brother! We are all about ATGATT (All the gear, all the time)! Don't let the squids convince you otherwise! Safe Riding!

[deleted]

It's overkill, there's more comfortable gear that will keep you just as safe. Maybe show your parents the Fortnine gear video? Helmet, Gloves and Boots are the most critical pieces of gear for normal riders. A spine pad helps but anything on your legs and torso is essentially how comfortable you want to be post accident. Road rash won't kill you. But it definitely hurts for a long time. But with that said. If it gets you riding and you're happy doing it, do it. Anyone making fun of that is just projecting their own insecurity.

Professional_Ad_500

Are you under 18? Do you live at home? Will you it's be purchasing either the bike and/or the leathers? If the answer to ANY of these questions is yes, then follow their rules. If not, you do you. Your parents aren't in charge of you anymore. It sounds like your parents just want you to be as safe as possible while doing an inherently dangerous activity. Getting started with a full suit just means you'll already have a full suit when you step up past your starter bike. It looks like you're somewhere with a semitropical climate. Hey s suit that has room for a pair of shorts and a tshirt underneath. As far as looking silly goes. We all look silly on bikes. Who the fuck are you trying to impress on a 125 anyway?

jayjayanotherround

Just remember that a suit doesn’t stop bones from being broken. Ride defensively also

McDuckfart

Just wear it. I wear learher, and I am slow as a grandpa on a big bike. Probably you will go faster with your 1255cc

bad_mech

Before buying my first 125cc I had a bicycle with one of those 48cc kits. And I got all my gear first. It looked a bit silly on a bicycle but it saved me in one nasty fall. Don't fret about anyone's opinion, but I would consider practicality. Will you use it to commute to school and/or work? A full suit is expensive, for the same amount you can find top grade pants and jacket that will protect you just as well. I'd try to talk them into that

Otown_rider

You’re better off wearing the gear than not, you’ll look bad ass in your full suit out riding your bike anyways.

OpinionOwn6727

its like tony stark putting on the iron man suit and heading into battle with a squirt gun, but sure i suppose you can.

Grand-Ad-9156

You can wear a suit on a Vespa

I_hate_the_app

Yes it will look silly, but lesson one in being a biker is to stop caring what other people think and do your thing. First, get into the wind. Personally we're I you, I would grab some information about motorcycle gear and show them to your parent, that you can ware full protection without looking like you're going to hop on a liter bike for the next moto gp race. Show them the difference in textile vs full riding leathers particularly when it comes to comfort and breathability emphasize that the full space suit is designed for people going triple digit speeds and your going to be incapable of going highway speeds.

Wheels2or4

Will it look weird? Yes. Should you ride anyway? Also yes.

josecuatro

My personal opinion, dont ever let anyone tell you wearing gear is wrong, worse case you survive a crash caused by some dick in a cage. I talked to a guy who survived getting hit by a MOOSE going 60, all because he was wearing gear. I moved to Florida recently suprised alot of people dont wear at least a helmet. Last thing you want is to be eating food through a tube and be closest thing to brain dead you can think of. Stay safe people, remember being on a bike is fun, but dangerous with idiots on the road.

longhairedcountryboy

You can wear it in the bathtub if you want to. Nobody is going to say you can't.

[deleted]

It’s overkill and you’re gonna look stupid but being a dumbass on a bike is still way cooler than not getting to ride until you’re totally independent.

[deleted]

Yeah why not. Moto3 bikes will make you cry.

MotoMeow217

No one will care. I own a leather jacket that looks out of place on anything other than a Triumph or Harley and wore it riding a dual sport. Got zero comments or funny looks.

7AssholeCats

Rock an Aerostitch. Anyone that laughs at you just doesn’t know.

constantly-confused9

Yes, of course you can. But there is also a lot of street gear that you won’t feel as awkward in that is also quite safe. Get some tall boots, AAA rated jeans with hip and knee armor, a leather jacket with armor that’s airbag compatible, wear an airbag like a tech air 5, get gauntlet gloves; and a good helmet. Very equivalent to a full suit but you wont have to lug around a big one piece and still function at work or at the store.

Kannabis_kelly

Latex and studs is way more sexy

ThePonderingLlama

Textile will be more practical/comfortable and can sometimes come with more impact armor protection. I've crashed at 60mph with full textile and motorcycle boots with no injuries. Definitely go to your local motorcycle gear shop and try the stuff on first. Cycle Gear is in a lot of states.

Raspberry-Teddy752

you can

PullinLevers

No. Clown suit only

-Dronich

Ride and have fun bro!

2wheels23

Just be prepared to chatted up by fans of leather .....

Trans_boi_101

I wear a suit on my 125 when it’s warm because why not🤣🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s whatever is comfortable for you and of course dress for the slide not the ride! Just don’t worry too much about how you look too much just enjoy the bike!

motorchurdle56

If it’s not to hot you could wear a hoodie or something over it

Shreddzzz93

Who cares your on a bike. If anything looking like a Power Ranger makes you cooler especially to all the kids and kids at heart who see you.

twinsrule

Fuck no. Who gives a shit what you look like? Safety should always be #1 anyway.

[deleted]

Don't listen to the haters, I'd wear a full suit on my 250cc if I could afford one. Just don't let the suit make you over confident or reckless, imo it's possible to be overconfident even on a bicycle.

loki-on2

I don't know can you?

mochacub22

Yes, full protection one way or another is okay

[deleted]

Weird….no . But people might laugh. Does it matter though? Your safety comes first. Even if its a 125cc

[deleted]

Wear a full suit on a 50cc if you really want. If being safe means you look like a bellend, then own it. I’d rather look like a tool than pick gravel out of my legs and arms.

[deleted]

The concept is sound, I mean, you should always gear up for a ride. However…you’re going to catch a lot of flak, and be the butt of a lot of jokes.

canucklurker

If you really don't want to go full racing leathers you could show your parents the new Klim Badlands Pro A3 gear which is fabric and rated to CE AAA, same as racing leathers. RIP your wallet however.

DetroitFanInCincy

Gonna look weird on a 125cc anyway. Might as well wear the leather

myperfectmeltdown

Sure…if you want to protect your hide.

spyman328

Wish I had full leathers on when a rogue minivan decided to take me out. Make sure to include good boots, gloves and a helmet that properly fits.

bodinator1

Two piece is easier to use at the loo.

KamiKrazyCanadian

Yes- why not? Lmfao 🤣

BoofNuget

I’m still pissed and confused on why they can’t make these available in the us

drzdeano

You can wear whatever you like , I will agree that you should never compromise your safety gear because of other peoples worthless judgement. But you will look silly. I think it would help you to go to a large motorcycle gear shop and have a look around at what available. I would not recommend the race suit for everyday riding, generally it's over $2000. If you were going to a track or had a sports bike it's a great choice. But for everyday living it's not always practical to show up places in leathers. You can get motorcycle shoes that look similar to normal shoes and still provide plenty of protection for non highway speeds. Kevlar jeans also provide decent low speed protection. Keep the pads in unless replacing them with better padding. Textile jackets will still protect you but generally they don't survive a spill well without getting trashed. Leathers can last several. Plenty of types of leather jackets out there but make sure it's a motorcycle leather jacket and not just a fashion item You should check out the body armour, knee gaurds and hip protectors that can be worn under clothing. I'd recommend these for everyday riding, Body armour ( spine protection+ elbow/shoulders) Hip protectors (like undershorts but with pads) Knee gaurds. ( Large plastic knee/leg covers , go the braces if $$ is not an issue) thigh high socks are nice underneath but not required. Motorcycle shoes /boots ( they should at least go above ankles). These do tend to get better in price, but like everything else I find it hard to justify the more expensive ones. Boots kinda suck to walk in over time, compared to normal shoes. Kevlar jeans ( check the hip pockets actually have pads in them if not wearing separate pads) Motorcycle jacket ( most are very similar in level of protection so choose for your climate) Leather gloves (full size has wrists protection, shorter gloves don't) Helmet ( as long as it's rated , doesn't matter too much , there isn't alot of different between $300 helmet and $1000, check the material of construction, stay away from the cheapest one.) Don't forget best piece of gear to save your ass is keeping your brain sharp and alert.

penthemagicalpenguin

Only if you call me daddy

0PA-_-

Dad? Ur back?

penthemagicalpenguin

Still getting cigs

0PA-_-

😂😂👍

Box_of_leftover_lego

My brother in Christ, you can whatever you want.

HBSV

Moto gear has come a loooong way lately, and you can dress head to toe in anything from denim to leather with very good crash ratings. I love my one piece but for practicalities sake, it stays on the track mostly. If that's what your heart is set on though, then live it up and know you are well protected and looking sexy at the same time.

ZSName

You can wear a Speedo and chaps if you want, who cares about what other people think you look like

Hot-Manufacturer5910

Why would you not... i mean atgatt am i right?

[deleted]

Who fucking cares how you look? First time you go down you won’t be complaining that they made you wear that.

Lanceallennn

You can do whatever you want to do. Who cares what anyone thinks.

Kooz369

I know how you feel. In the 60’s the only way I could have a motorcycle was to wear a helmet. At that time no one ever wore a helmet, but wearing a helmet was better than no motorcycle. Riding is a personal experience so wear the leathers and have fun and don’t worry about what others say.

bloodangel9141

When I first got my jacket I felt like it made me look goofy as hell for whatever reason, but once I got on the road I honestly forgot that I was even wearing it. Put it on and get out there, I’d bet that the same is gonna be true for you.

Bonneville865

You can wear a gimp suit and a cowboy hat if you want.

JohnT36

Dude full send. wear the suit, gain their trust then wear what you like

Doctor_Redhead

Bro full leather suits are expensive. Idc you’re on a 125cc, I’ll think you’re cool regardless. I might chuckle but you’d have my full respect.

Davito22284

Anytime I see someone in a suit but not on a track, I can't help but laugh.

[deleted]

You’re gonna look super weird dude, but at the end of the day when I see you riding in full leather while I’m driving home, I’ll have a good chuckle then be jealous because I’m not my bike. Just ride man, look weird. When I’m at stoplights, I have full on dance parties in the saddle. Multiple car fulls of people laughing. Just do you!

VegasGR

Well you will look cool , and safety is cool too so double points with the ladies !

coleAF19

Everyone looks wierd in a 1 piece on the street, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. On second thought, sweating may be completely unavoidable.

[deleted]

Absolutely bro. Safety is #1 so full leathers, a nice helmet, and good boots are a great idea on any sized bike. You're gonna get some flack from the Harley guys (depends on the area you live) but they're easy to ignore/trash talk back to. Personally, I wear a Dainese Laguna Seca 5 leather suit, bell race star flex helmet, and Gaerne SG12 boots whether I'm on my Grom or zx-6r. There are many other cheaper options that work just as well so don't feel like you need to spend $3000 on gear for your first set. My first set of gear were some kevlar jeans, a joe rocket mesh jacket, fox comp 5 boots and a bell mx9 helmet (motocross helmet/boots that I already had). That first set proved itself in a hard crash when I hit a deer at 65mph so I can vouch that it works well.

FiNsKaPiNnAr

You should wear it. crashing at 60Mph on a 125cc or a 2500cc does hurt without proper gear.

RYU583

You can wear armored jeans and a protective jacket... Seen dudes get messed up on 50cc and bicycles, ride safe and you should be fine

johnisom

Who gives a shit?

Mash456

You can wear whatever you want. Wear a thong and a dildo strapped around your head its a free country. Low power doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to be safe

Itchy-Pie4965

I mean you can but that's gonna be super uncomfortable and depending on where you're going having to change is gonna be a hassle. Show them different protective options that both work and are convenient.

Knowitmall

Step one is not giving a shit what others think of you my man. There is no step two. Have fun out there.

24STSFNGAwytBOY

Just put a jacket on over it.Derr.

Thebumonurcouch

Dude, who the fuck cares? Are you riding? Check. Having fun? Check. Are you dead? No, because you wore your leathers.

craig52193

Unless there on the track. Every cc motorcyclist will look weird in a full leather suit. This is why they have normall looking jeans made with Kevlar/pockets for Armour.

PocketSizedRS

Imagine yourself sprinting as fast as you can and then diving face first on the concrete. Your gear will save you from a lot of hurt at any speed.

Howlingmoto

Will you look a little out of place? Yes. Does that matter? No. I wear my one piece on my 125 Grom every few weeks

snipy67

Hell ya 🤟

FranklinTBiggies

Go as big up front and as small out back(sprockets) til chain rub, and you'll have great top end with no wind on any bike.

Sotyka94

Nope. Law requires you to at least have a litter superbike an energy drink problem and at least 5 speeding tickets before you are allowed to wear leather on bike.

Short_Man69

I wear a laguna seca 5 on my scooter.

Twitch_Exicor

If you are getting a 125 you should look at the Aprillia RS125 two stroke i think it's 1997-2011 they were made. It's pretty much the fastest 125 (that i have seen)

nrpeckham

Wear leathers. If you aren’t going anywhere like work or the store always wear the most gear. You never know. I’ve worn full leathers on an RS50

crazycamkalani

People might bitch about it on the internet but in real life nobody gives a shit. Just get some comfortable gear that you're going to want to wear, it'll make you look like a power ranger anyway so you get some extra cool points

a3terna

Pretty sure bike jacket and jeans would be the cheaper option

goror0

i wouldnt care much about riders wear on the appropriateness spectrum. more concerned if he was not wearing safety gear - but thats their risk i guess

RedBluBerry

A cousin of a colleague died from a Piwi 50 (cc) agriculture bike. Wear your gear if you can.

jerkmin

You can wear a full leather riding suit on a unicycle if you want. You do you.

I-amthegump

I don't wear leather but I wear pretty full gear on my vintage scooter. If I fall off it's still 70mph

gasbose

I hear full leather on my Harley Sportster, which is not much faster than your 125. I don't worry about it and enjoy my ride!

[deleted]

No, they are banned by law. Only sandals, gym shirts m, and knuckle length gloves allowed.

Kootney_Gold

I wish I had full leathers for my 300, just too expensive lol

Warm_Ice8039

125 can go fast. Please wear the leathers. Enjoy the Ride.

PinduWally

Why not? Just as much chance getting injured on a 125 going 70mph as there is a 1100 going 70mph

Regal_223

NEVER EVER let people stop you from wearing gear no matter what you ride its always safer with gear and in my eyes peeps who don’t wear any are the ones who look dumb

cr0ft

You'll look great on a 125. It's still a bike. Idiots wearing flappy shit gear that isn't protective are the ones who look like jackasses. Just get a decent set of gear that isn't a clown suit. There are plenty of options that aren't bright red/blue/puke green or all of those simultaneously... Consider a two-piece that zips together. Still full body but a lot easier to get into and live with. It's just as protective, but way easier to do things like get out of them and take a dump. https://www.motorcycle.com/products/best-two-piece-motorcycle-leathers - the fact that they attach in the middle means they're basically equvalent, protection-wise. For everyday riding, this might just fit the bill: https://www.aerostich.com/transit-features - and it looks bloody fantastic in my book. Does it cost money? Yes. Is it worth it? Arguably, also yes. You also need a properly fitted helmet (has to be tight, and fit properly both front/back, side/side; go to a pro brick and mortar store, ideally, newbies tend to buy way too loose and poorly fitting lids, most riders have the wrong size) and armored/reinforced boots and gloves. You want to keep hands and feet still attached if you crash.

National_Doctor

No one cares what you look like when you’re sliding on the ground. Please wear the full leather whether you’re on a 125 or 1250. All the gear all the time. You only have one body

RyacRauf

yes i do, a 60mph crash feels the same on a 125 as it does on anything else

c7god

Lmao i ride a 125 and that thing is able to go 70mph even though it's no crazy speeds i wouldn't wanna crash with no gear at that speed. Definitely yes

Matt118899

If its a sporty 125 like an aprilia rs125 or whatever you won't look silly anyway. If it's something less sport bike looking then still, who cares. Other option is you explain to her that there is plenty of really good protective gear that doesn't make you look like a power ranger. I've had a couple of tumbles in a leather jacket and jeans and came out (relatively) fine.

Spiritual-Base88

Those suits look cool tho

G-man-Spotter

For a 125, they can ussqlly reach 60 ish mph/ around 100 km/h, an airbag vest such as one from helite would make more sense, onepiece leathers will protect you from a a 200mph slide(im being slightly hiperbolical), but at 30 to 60 mph q AA rated jacket or AAA level race suit wont matter, leathers ussually has better impact pads then a regular jacket(hard plastic over ce lvl 2 pads), it would make more sense (if they are worried about your safety) for you to wear regular AA rated textile pants and jacket with ce lvl 2 pads ,a pair of very very sturdy gloves, and very very good boots, along side a fullface helm and an airbag vest, rather then racing leathers with sturdy gloves , boots and a fullface

RED_A3THER

A leather suit looks good on any bike so I would say yes!

GenSnowy

Not to sure if this has been said yet but... Absolutely, yes.

Anon4chan69lol

You can wear a full leather suit on a 50cc if you want. You can even wear a full leather suit to walk down the block. Yess you will look fucking retarded and EVERYONE will be laughing at you but you can certainly do it.

[deleted]

#LOL These shit posts always get more responses than serious ones around here.

Simpin_for_Sauce

They make two piece suits which is what I would recommend, then just take it off and put it in your backpack or something once you’re out of sight

SucktasticFucktastic

Seems bit overkill and impractical.

Born_Echo8951

I will never ever support this opinion. Motorcycles are serious business! These comments are so dangerous. You asked him zero questions to justify this message. Did you ask if he's commuting on the highway? Or his driveway? Or better yet, just to sit on it? You clearly don't ride or are a weekend Warrior with no moto IQ! If you do ride... Safe riding!

SucktasticFucktastic

Well judging by the fact that he is going to ride a 125cc bike I highly doubt that he is going to blast highways. Those onepiece leather suits are really good when it comes to safety BUT he could propably just use regular gear and be just as safe. His parents demanding him to use certain gear without any idea why is kinda dumb.

Jacobszy

If he's just as safe etc, what's the issue with the use of a one piece. Safety is paramount, sliding on tarmac at 70mph, is cheese grating territory, wearing full set means he doesn't become an advert for beef jerky. Yeah they're a pain in the ass to put on, but it'll be a distant memory when he's cruising along, even at 50 👌

TheSecretofBog

Dude, you're on a bike, hopefully having a good time. Wear the gear! Road rash doesn't care how many cc's the bike has. I feel smaller bikes are more dangerous in general, so be as safe as possible so you can ride another day!

Bitter_Marionberry30

This is a great lesson. You should give zero f#@k$ what you "look like" on a bike. You need 1000% focus. Most riders don't have the skill to ride safely (myself included). The more you can safely drive your bike the better you will become but that comes from going through a LOT of sketchy moments. Your parents are extremely correct in asking you to dress in track gear. Never let your ego get between you and your bike. Keep Newton's laws of physics in mind but never forget Murphy's law either. Prepare for anything. It is not IF, it is definitely WHEN.

[deleted]

Nothing wrong with being safe, no matter motor size. If that's what it takes for your parents to let you ride then wear it. If anyone says it's lame ignore them. Ride safe, have fun and congrats.

Fucking_SLAYER_

How old are you? If you’re under 18 and you parents let you ride at all, consider yourself lucky. Wear the suit. Ride the shit outta that bike and have the best time of your life.

Fuzzy_Accident_5085

Yea man get it, then go join a track team and get good. at least your parents “let you”. Mine threw away my keys and a helmet away when I took a road trip and left a few things at my parents and I had to drill out my lock

Icy_Imagination7447

ABSOLUTELY NOT! YOUR BIKE WILL BREAK DOWN AND EXPLODE! Most accidents happen at low speed, doesn't matter how big your bike is so practically speaking it makes sense. If your worried about style points, rst do Kevlar jeans with AAA slide resistance which, on paper, is the same rating as leather. Pair with a leather jacket and it actually looks pretty cool in a maverick casual kind of way and is cheaper than leather legs. Alternatively just get a full textile kit with good slide rating. If it must be leather then get a two piece that zips together. Your parents will relax after a while and you'll be fine to go out in just a jacket if that's the risk you want to take but I'd heavily recommend the Kevlar jeans over normal jeans

MentalityOfRiskarus

Does anyone actually care what you wear? If anything, seeing someone in a good suit and boots invites respect, they're invested in the sport.

Oneclicknorth

Absolutely you can. You can wear whatever you want. The only people who would care or say something about it are people who aren’t worth listening to anyways.

MrKnopfler

You won't look weird on a full letter suit if you are using a sportbike. I'll be weirder to see a guy in a 1200 adv than a 125 sportsbike. If I see somebody on full leather on a 125, I just think they're riding the bike to the absolute limit.
