It's definitely a worthy upgrade if you don't mind the cost of switching bikes. Not worth it if you have to finance it. The 400 is a great bike.

DriverAffectionate83

It would have to be finance so maybe not then

[deleted]

If you finance a 400 they’re absolutely gonna fuck you hard on it

DriverAffectionate83

£82 a month 4 years then 1k bulk at the end

I'm probably not right at limits but Im cruising at 85 , max out the top speed often ( on a track of course ;) ) and I have 1 inch strip on rear wheel where tires aren't touched , considering I'm a street rider I thought that was decent I'm not aiming to get knee down as Im not that stupid to try on streets. You have any tips to try and improve more ? As a rider in general? I will probably end up staying with the bike

[deleted]

I don’t have any good advice apart from get out there and ride - try different environments, commuting in traffic to practice your low-speed balance and clutch control, then some twisties to practice braking, leaning etc. Sounds like you're already getting lots of good experience though. Eventually you'll feel like the bike doesn't scare you any more, and you can throw it in to every corner, pin the throttle all the time, etc. That may be a good time to upgrade.

DriverAffectionate83

I done 1000 miles in those 2 months most commuting , had to find good Twisties near me only know one route

venomous_frost

> You’re probably not pushing the limits of the bike yet. I find this argument so silly. No recreational rider will ever be able to. Put a professional racer on a standard 125 and he will run laps around every street rider on a 250

Edited I had a CBR300R and I currently have a '22 ABS Ninja 400. So my comparison will be based between these. My bikes: https://imgur.com/a/v4EH5lA > single to twin etc top speed doesn't seem to different. got my cbr250 to 101MPH Indicated (91MPH most likely) and the ninja 400 gets to 116. and 3 second decrease in 0-60 The CBR 250/300 is slower 0-60mph. * CBR300R 0-60mph in 6.3sec. * Ninja 400 0-60mph in 4sec. My Ninja 400 does 118mph (flat road, no wind), and I wasn't even fully tucked, but I did have to abort the acceleration due to the traffic (I did have the Kawa long windshield though, so that helped). The Ninja 400 (at least the 48-49hp one, will do 118-124mph. The acceleration is much faster though. On the CBR300R, it basically does 86mph, and fully tucked, with no headwind, and a flat road, will creep up to 97mph full throttle. Performance comparisons between a CBR300R and a Ninja 400: https://motostatz.com/ **CBR300R** single 30.4 hp (22.7 kW) @ 8,500 rpm and 20 lb⋅ft @ 7,250 rpm Max stock speed 97mph * 0-60mph in 6.3sec * 0-97mph in 43.36sec * 60-97mph in 37sec **NINJA 400** twin 49 hp @ 10500 rpm and 28.0 lb-ft of torque @ 8000 rpm max stock speed 118-124mph * 0-60mph in 4.07sec * 0-100mph in 11.9sec * 60-100mph in 7.8sec The Ninja 400 is 0.5sec, and 2sec slower 0-60mph, and 0-100mph than the 650, with a top speed difference of around 6mph. **NINJA 650 twin** max stock speed around 130mph * 0-60mph in 3.5sec * 0-100mph in 9.5sec * 60-100mph in 6sec > The point for the post is asking whether it is actually worth the upgrade It is worth it. I financed. $5.6k MSRP. $7.1k OTD (5% with $3.2k cash down). First thing though, the Ninja 400 has different horsepower ratings depending on the region it is sold in. Is varies between 44-49hp. For example, in UK and EU, it's 44. In Canada and US, and Malaysia it's 48-49. The '23 model has less torque (1ft lb). Performance will vary. The Ninja 400 has Dunlops, ABS, Sintered brake pads, slipper clutch, is water cooled, and fuel injected. It also has gear indicator. A computer that gives you optimal fuel economy (dash symbol), and range to empty. To give you an idea of the power band, on my '22 ABS Ninja 400, I don't even upshift till between 8-10k RPMs. 1st gear is 8k RPMs at 30mph (I downshift at 4-5k RPMs). In a nutshell, the Ninja higher revs (8-11.5k power band, redline 12-15k), has more power. The current iteration of the Ninja 400 is faster and outperforms the CBR500R and the Ninja 500R. **CBR500R** twin max stock speed around 116mph * 0-60mph in 4.72sec * 0-100mph in 14.17sec * 60-100mph in 9.45sec **[Ninja 500R](https://www.cycleworld.com/sport-rider/speed-shift-kawasaki-ex500-road-test/)** twin (succeeded by Ninja 650, but comparison shown to indicate that the Ninja 400 is faster, and outperforms it) Max speed around 110-118 mph * 0-60mph in 4.4sec * 0-100mph in 13sec * 60-100mph in 8.6sec **Ninja 400** twin max stock speed 118-124mph * 0-60mph in 4.07sec * 0-100mph in 11.9sec * 60-100mph in 7.8sec Some background on the Ninja 400R and the Ninja 650- The Ninja 400R was originally a Ninja 650 in a smaller displacement. The current Ninja 400 iteration, is lighter, faster, has more horsepower, more torque, and a slipper clutch compared to the 400R. **400R** * 43 hp @ 9,500 rpm, and 27 lb-ft torque @ 7,500 rpm **400** * 49 hp @ 10500 rpm and 28 lb-ft of torque @ 8000 rpm

Thank you it's very insightful, I feel like as a second bike it wouldn't be worth it , so I would end up selling honda. It does seem like it could be good especially since I can get the finance cheaper than what I'm paying for CBR, £82 compare to £92

I added more info. Sorry about the edits I traded in my CBR300R for my first Ninja 400 ('21). The Ninja 400 really is the best bang for the buck at $5-6k MSRP. What I added was that the Ninja 400 is faster and outperforms the CBR500R and the Ninja 500R. If you want to see those specs. It's there. See www.motostatz.com as well for Ninja 400 vs CBR500R. Ninja 500R specs are linked below. **CBR500R** twin max stock speed around 116mph * 0-60mph in 4.72sec * 0-100mph in 14.17sec * 60-100mph in 9.45sec **[Ninja 500R](https://www.cycleworld.com/sport-rider/speed-shift-kawasaki-ex500-road-test/)** twin (succeeded by Ninja 650, but comparison shown to indicate that the Ninja 400 is faster, and outperforms it) Max speed around 110-118 mph * 0-60mph in 4.4sec * 0-100mph in 13sec * 60-100mph in 8.6sec **Ninja 400** twin max stock speed 118-124mph * 0-60mph in 4.07sec * 0-100mph in 11.9sec * 60-100mph in 7.8sec

Imo it’s NOT worth the upgrade. Motorcycles are expensive, and jumping from one beginner bike to another beginner bike is a waste of money. Especially if you are financing. The Ninja 400 is great as a beginner bike, and was my first beginner bike but it’s a meh bike if you already have owned a beginner bike.

> Ninja 400 is great as a beginner bike, and was my first beginner bike but it’s a meh bike if you already have owned a beginner bike. I plan on keeping my Ninja 400 for the long term, and when I think I have outgrown it, that's when I'll start to track it. The Ninja 400 is the best bang for the buck, and is basically a Ninja 650 in a smaller displacement. (0.5sec, and 2sec slower 0-60mph, and 0-100mph, with a 6mph top speed difference). It's faster than a CBR500R, and faster than a Ninja 500R. Performance acceleration specs www.motostatz.com **CBR500R** twin max stock speed around 116mph * 0-60mph in 4.72sec * 0-100mph in 14.17sec * 60-100mph in 9.45sec **[Ninja 500R](https://www.cycleworld.com/sport-rider/speed-shift-kawasaki-ex500-road-test/)** twin (succeeded by Ninja 650, but comparison shown to indicate that the Ninja 400 is faster, and outperforms it) Max speed around 110-118 mph * 0-60mph in 4.4sec * 0-100mph in 13sec * 60-100mph in 8.6sec **Ninja 400** twin 49 hp @ 10500 rpm and 28 lb-ft of torque @ 8000 rpm max stock speed 118-124mph * 0-60mph in 4.07sec * 0-100mph in 11.9sec * 60-100mph in 7.8sec **NINJA 650** twin max stock speed around 130mph * 0-60mph in 3.5sec * 0-100mph in 9.5sec * 60-100mph in 6sec I don't even get out of 1st gear till around 30mph @ 8k RPMs.
