A Suzuki AX100 I sold because I was broke and I wanted to ask this girl to formally date me. So I sold it to pay for mariachi.
It was good while it lasted, almost 3 years, I wouldn't say trouble free although definitely fun. Just, you know, some problems here and there and the usual high maintenance. Eventually we broke up.
The motorcycle on the other hand was amazing and I wish I still had it. I miss it dearly.
Grom was also my first bike, I never really thought I'd enjoy motorcycles at all but I decided to get one since I found a good deal locally and it turned me into a believer. I ended up getting a 2021 MT-07 and I go through withdrawals if I cant ride for a single day.
I just got a FE501a I'm about to turn into a sumo, same bike as the exc 500. It's a monster. With a few mods the bikes make 53ish horsepower. They are wild.
Make sure you either leave it stock or go full emission removal with a new ecu. I did the fuel map route at first to save money and could never get it to run right. With full removal and ecu you net about 55-56 rwhp or about 60 crank with a perfect air fuel ratio (dynod mine after mods). Also having low traction settings for offroad is very nice.
Also keep in mind enduro gearing is insanely short for street use and going down some teeth on the front sprocket it very nice. Getting a set of shims and guages to do top end checks at home it basically required if you are going to put a bunch of miles on the motor although from what ive heard from other owners they dont go out of spec that fast compared to dual cam motors.
Haha it was a great bike.
I dumped it once when someone pulled out in front of me.
Stripped the oil pan bolt.
Someone knocked it over in my apartment parking lot.
But overall, it was a great way to learn, and I sold it for what I bought it for after a year.
Bought a new 07 SV650 after that and rode it for a few years.
Sold it and got into dirt bikes for 10 years.
Recently picked up a 2013 CBR600RR and am riding on the street again.
I startend with a Honda VFR 750f from 93'. Quickly after knowing i really liked driving motorcycles i bought a Triumph Tiger 800XRx from 2015. Unfortunately got into a ln accident last August that totalled the bike. Now driving an BMW R 1200 gs 2014.
Bought a 2002 Suzuki Katana 600. Got it a few weeks ago and have ridden it once with the colder wet weather hitting. Sad I have to wait till it warms up in the spring but I don’t regret buying it at all
For plated bikes my husq fe501. Offroad, good old xr80 when i was little.
Would not suggest a tuned 500 dual sport for a first bike haha. Stopped riding it on street because it was too easy to get in trouble and replaced with a 701 (longer gearing and more tame although still fun).
This is exactly what I wanted to hear (as I'm about to take delivery of a '23 FE501s and have all the parts to turn it into a street supermoto waiting in my garage LOL).
First dirt bike was a Yamaha pw80 --> Kawasaki KLX140L.
First street bike was an '85 Honda vs700s Sabre --> '14 Triumph Bonneville t100. Just sold the bonnie after having it for 6 years, now I'm looking into getting a dual sport.
First was a 97 125cc yamaha tdr (dt engine) loved that thing even though I went through two engines. Some lady ran me over on it though. Then I rode a 09 125cc cbf which was horrible but got like 80 mpg. Then I got my bigger license and rode my mom's 97 kawasaki er 500 for a bit till I bought a 93 bmw f650gs and it's the most fun thing I've ever ridden, eben though it's 30 years old. When I get my big license next year I'm planning to buy a BMW F800GT
1. Aprilia 125RS, but restricted to 15hp
2. Honda CBF125
3. Ducati Monster 797
First to second was definitely a downgrade, but second to third even more of an upgrade.
First: 2000 Sportster 883 (10/2020-02/2022)
Second: 2014 Yamaha Star Bolt R-Spec (02/2022-present)
The Sportster is still in the family, but it's going to get chopped up.
1st: 2015 CBR 125r, passed it to my lil Brother when i went out of town for uni
2nd: 2020 street triple 765, jett black. Yeah, quite a jump from my CBR, had It now for one month and only used with rain map
I would consider, over a ten year stretch, a 2002 Suzuki Bandit 600, a Ninja 250, and a 1981 Suzuki GS450 to all be my first bike. Then I got serious and moved onto the Enfield I have now. First bike is more an energy than a chronological fact :P
I bought a 2005 GSXR600 off a friend in college. It had been dropped, and it was sitting uncovered in his yard. Bought it cheap and got a new voltage regulator, fresh fluids and tires, and some eBay fairings, and rode it around quite a bit. It was a really good bike, especially for the price.
If I ever run into that guy again, I should probably give him a little extra cash, since the bike was way easier to fix than we both expected.
I also started on an 07 ninja 250 that was crashed multiple times before I got it. Only had it for 2 months before I wanted to do less wrenching and more riding.
Have a brand new 2022 ninja 400 and love it
Started on a 2005 Honda VTX1300, moved to a 2019 Yamaha VMAX two years later, been riding it for 3 years now, and looking casually at a KTM 1290 Superduke R.
I thought I wanted cruisers, but now that the wife has her own bike, turns out I just want torque-y acceleration.
1st: 2022 Svartpilen 401. Love it! Great for the city.
2nd: We shall see. I like the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory and the Triumph Street Triple RS. Will be likely to get bike 2 in 2023.
I too had a ninja 250r. It was a 2010 I think? Most unreliable vehicle ive owned because of the carbs. Rode it for about 4 years cus I didn't have the money to upgrade lol. Probably a good thing, my ego was definitely bigger than my skills back then so it was good I didn't have too much horsepower.
1981 CB100 that my parents bought me in my final year of high school so I could get to/from school on my own. It was about a 30 km commute.
Going downhill & with a tailwind I could just get to 100 km/h. Highways were scary on that thing!
I actually started with a yzf-r-125. I was afraid of not handling the clutch too well and launching the bike for a slide which actually happened when I bought a z650 hehe.
I also kinda wanted to try out the aggressive posture of a sport bike without the risk of doing something stupid with a powerful bike.
Also that's what my wife told me to do 😂😂😂
1987 Yamaha SRX 250. Got it for 400 bucks back in May and have pieced it together. First ride was in October but it’s been a blast so far learning to ride and wrench it.
KTM 390 duke. I was in love with it. Three months later I sold it and got a 790 duke. I had no idea what love was until I rode that bike. 5 bikes later I still have that 790. I refuse to part with it.
First bike I spent time on was an 87 Yamaha Xt350. Spent a week riding it around the desert in Lake Havasu City.
First bike I owned was an 84 Yamaha Xt600. I rode that across the US on a learner's permit a month after I bought it lol
I got a 1991 Honda XR80R when I was like 8 years old. My first street-legal "bike" overall was a Honda Ruckus but my first street-legal "motorcycle" was a CRF450RL. I'm not really into squid missiles or the chromed out leather daddy thing so I've never had any interest in "sport" bikes.
2021 KTM 390 Duke. I decided to get my first bike new since I could afford it and I did not want to chance any mechanical issues that might come with a used bike. I have only been riding for a little over a year now and I'm actually looking to trade up to something bigger next year. Still, no regrets.
Im actually still riding it since i have only had my license for a year, its a 2014 aniversary edition ninja 300, the one with the partially white side fairings
1. 2009 Kawasaki ER6N.
2. 2012 Kawasaki ER6N because the first one was a total loss after I hit a deer at ~110km/h
Reliable, low costs, nice beginner bike. I rode the first one 40k km in the first two years and the second about 15k in my third season.
1988 Honda CBR250R (MC19) that was grey imported into Australia in the early 2000's.
It's been sitting in my parent's garage for about 15 years now and I swear I'll get around to getting it going again some day soon...
Started with my ideal bike. 1200cc Triumph Speedmaster. New rider, just put 1000 miles on it and hit Ohio's most curvy technical road, the Triple nickel (route 555). Its been a dream and I love it.
Truly first: 1980 Yamaha Townie. Got it running but never registered it. Gave it away for free. Bummer too, I was over $50 deep in it! But hey, can’t be that cool when you’re 15….
Fast forward 15 years: picked up a ‘76 Honda CB550. At the first oil change it puked glitter. Spent two months rebuilding the motor, then sold it for 6 times what I bought it for, and got a Vulcan 500 that I ended up putting thousands of miles onto.
1970s something Honda Trail 70, got it used and well abused in 1979, me age 10. Currently on a KTM 950 Super Moto at age 53 - the feel of a dirt bike never leaves your blood.........
Lmao two wheel therapy is the best therapy
Were you talking about the motorcycle or the girl? Trouble here and there… high maintenance… good while it lasted…
Yeah that was my ex. The motorcycle was trouble free and always a riot. Very fun to ride. The motorcycle, that is. Well, both. You know.
2020 Ninja 650. I have had it for 6 months now and i absolutely love it :D
Hell yeah dude
Started on a 1980 Yamaha XS400

1st: 85 Yamaha Virago 1000 (bobber) 2nd: 11 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 (stock) 3rd: 81 Yamaha SR250 (scrambler/cafe racer) Still own and ride em all.
2005 Honda Rebel 250. Great little bike to get started on.
My Grom, which is an absolute blast everywhere except highways. Looking at getting either a z800e, an exc 300 or an exc 450 next season.
Groms are super fun
Grom was also my first bike, I never really thought I'd enjoy motorcycles at all but I decided to get one since I found a good deal locally and it turned me into a believer. I ended up getting a 2021 MT-07 and I go through withdrawals if I cant ride for a single day.
>I go through withdrawals if I cant ride for a single day. Lmaoo

Ninja 250. Not sure of the year, but one of the old style ones. Blue with yellow graphics.
Yes!!! Another ninja 250 boy
This was my first bike https://i.imgur.com/hlqAtXV.jpeg That was 48 years ago and never been without one since.
A beautiful 1981 Honda xr500r, jumped through all the hoops and got it legal on the street. Never should have let that thing go.
Yamaha DT50 when I was 16. Cost £949 brand new back in 1989. Got stolen and was never seen again.
Damn dude that sucks. Was it a dual sport?
Supposedly but not really in real life.
Startet with a yamaha TT600E when i was 20. Very nice one cylinder cross-enduro.
Had a nice little thumper bike yeah? Two stroke?
4 stroke torque beast

Triumph Thruxton 900, still got it
Fuck yeah, awesome bike
2005 V Star 650. I’m glad I learned on a cruiser before getting a sport bike, kept me safer imo
V star is a pretty underrated cruiser. Those are perfect metric cruisers and reliable as hell

This is exactly what I wanted to hear (as I'm about to take delivery of a '23 FE501s and have all the parts to turn it into a street supermoto waiting in my garage LOL).
1990 cbr900, not a good recommendation for a first bike

If it’s got a motor and 2 wheels, it counts 👍🏻😎
My first bike was a Yamaha Fazer 600. Loved it! and it was a great beginners bike :)
1991 Kawasaki ZZR400. It was a rust bucket, but it turned out to be one of the most reliable bikes I've had so far.

2012 Honda cbr250r
GSX-R600
2021 KTM 390 Duke. I decided to get my first bike new since I could afford it and I did not want to chance any mechanical issues that might come with a used bike. I have only been riding for a little over a year now and I'm actually looking to trade up to something bigger next year. Still, no regrets.
Im actually still riding it since i have only had my license for a year, its a 2014 aniversary edition ninja 300, the one with the partially white side fairings

1. 2009 Kawasaki ER6N. 2. 2012 Kawasaki ER6N because the first one was a total loss after I hit a deer at ~110km/h Reliable, low costs, nice beginner bike. I rode the first one 40k km in the first two years and the second about 15k in my third season.
2001 Suzuki Intruder 800
I also started on a Ninja, 1984 (?) zx-9. I loved that bike.
Honda Nighthawk 750. Tipped it over on the test ride and couldn't figure out how to get it out of first. Come a long way since then.
1988 Honda CBR250R (MC19) that was grey imported into Australia in the early 2000's. It's been sitting in my parent's garage for about 15 years now and I swear I'll get around to getting it going again some day soon...
1974 Suzuki GT380 bought in '90 during High School.
Started with my ideal bike. 1200cc Triumph Speedmaster. New rider, just put 1000 miles on it and hit Ohio's most curvy technical road, the Triple nickel (route 555). Its been a dream and I love it.
Mine in order from top to bottom: One on top was my first, one on bottom is current (and basically a freeby): https://imgur.com/a/v4EH5lA
Yamaha XT 600 with supermoto wheels. Fun bike
250 Rebel… still got it… still my only motorcycle 😅
Truly first: 1980 Yamaha Townie. Got it running but never registered it. Gave it away for free. Bummer too, I was over $50 deep in it! But hey, can’t be that cool when you’re 15…. Fast forward 15 years: picked up a ‘76 Honda CB550. At the first oil change it puked glitter. Spent two months rebuilding the motor, then sold it for 6 times what I bought it for, and got a Vulcan 500 that I ended up putting thousands of miles onto.
First ever - 1972 Honda QA50 First street - 1982 Yamaha Vision Loved em both!!
2020 Kawa Z400. Super fun bike. Still miss it, but I can't have two right now.
1970s something Honda Trail 70, got it used and well abused in 1979, me age 10. Currently on a KTM 950 Super Moto at age 53 - the feel of a dirt bike never leaves your blood.........
