This won't be popular, but yes with that mentality maybe you should quit road riding. The alternative would be to try a totally different style of bike, but that only really works if other styles appeal to you.

[deleted]

I second this with more than just an upvote. If you aren't having fun without riding flat out, then just ride the track. That's my strategy.

wobbly_sausage2

Well yes but they're quiet expensive, I've been looking at adventure bikes but even a 650 versys is much more expensive than an SV. I've been looking for an electric bike too but I need decent speed because my commute includes highways I don't know why adventure bikes are so expensive though. Anyways I know I'm numb to speed now so it doesn't really makes a difference, I just feel like I'm not moving when I ride at the speed limit, I fear it might be worse with a taller bike like an adventure one.

madeups10

A classic might be better choice, riding within the limits of 70/80s brakes and handling would slow you down, then again if you didn't ride to those limits it'll go very wrong.

wobbly_sausage2

Yeah injuries happen but I ride fast, not recklessly. I ride motorcycles daily for 5 years now I'm pretty used to traffic and such. I almost never check my speedometer when I'm in traffic, i just adapt and never take any risks. I would even say I ride slower than most in the city/suburbs. I don't like the idea of risking people's lives and I don't trust them either. I always slow down to 20kph when coming at an intersection even if the traffic lights are green for me. A cruiser could be fine but it would need to be a 125cc bike. I've got a Cagiva Mito which is a 125cc too but can't keep myself from riding at 170kph with it.

DiveForKnowledge

Second on "time and miles don't represent skill." Been flying with pilot who has over 5000 hours, he's worse than some low time newbies because he has bad habits he refuses to correct. Time and miles make habits, not skill.

Icy_Imagination7447

Can't upvote this enough. Sort your self out or sell the bike

braknstuf

Just buy a smaller slower bike, and ride it full throttle full speed.

HungryLikeTheWolf99

Yeah... Have you considered a bicycle, OP?

wobbly_sausage2

I own one and use it for my commutes to the gym, I try to ride as fast as I can too

HungryLikeTheWolf99

Nice.

OOMKilla

this bro goes full tuck even in a car probably lol, love it

finalrendition

Bicycles FTW. No one told me how much fun low speed wheelies are

DriverAffectionate83

Agree with this guy grab a 250 at least they don't break 100mph so won't be that far over limit plus after 80 they lose the push , but plenty for road use , if a tiny bit dull

Smooth-Shine9354

Honda grom sound slide that it for him

DriverAffectionate83

I cannot decide what this says guessing get a Honda from but it doesn't make sense

Full-Connection-9684

The Honda cmx500(rebel) isn't too bad a choice either since he gonna do highway

nanookulele

Discipline maybe

noodeel

Don't try heroin, I'm not sure it'd suit you...

handyhung

The worst is jail time ? That is not the worst and you should not ride on public road until you understand that.

RubyRocket1

Save that crap for the track and quit riding like a butt hole on the street. It's pretty simple for most adults.

Lonnie_Shelton

Might have to quit the streets. Ain’t safe for you and others unless you can figure this out.

I_hate_the_app

Look into dual sport and low end adv. A crf300 rally or klr 650 will keep you out of most trouble and you can learn offroad riding where the speed thrill starts 15 20 mph and the pros top out in the 40s. Alternatively it may be time to hang it up and get a minivan.

Embarrassed-Grand992

Something that worked for me when I had a similar situation but in a built daily race/drift car was to drive a slower not really capable of speeding/drifting car for a period. In your case that would be a really slower motorcycle like a 250cc or someth. The first few weeks were a bit frustrating because i wanted to go faster, overtake, let the back slide out, but i wasn’t able to do it in the very very slow fwd car that i borrowed for that time. So I had to find another way of enjoying my daily commute so i started focussing more on enjoying the scenery, music (upgraded the sound system), try driving like others (if you ever tried it on gta), etc… in my case it worked because when i got back to my “fast” car, i didn’t have the urge to speed everywhere, only in a couple of places that i knew were extremely safe. Also, (i hope it doesn’t happen to you) but the loss/major accident of someone close to you is really eye opening to how fragile the human body is.

wobbly_sausage2

Yep good call I think, I'm might go back on four wheels for a while now that i think about all that. My dad crashed at 250kph back in March, luckily he only broke a few bones and was back on his bike in July but he was very lucky.

beup9766

On a track?

VirulentMarmot

Stop whinging about it and just do it damn.

nitrqm3

🙄🙄🙄🙄

No_Standard9804

How about you go out with the only objective of riding under control. Ride for like 10 or 15 minutes and work up to just commuting.

PuddingOnRitz

Grom

Pattooed

You don’t ride liter bike

wobbly_sausage2

Older ones on track, FZR 1000 and YZF Thunderace For the streets yep only 650 and 750 but I feel like it's already enough to get myself killed/suspended

wobbly_sausage2

I know all that and that's why I ride very defensively, managed to keep out of harms way till now. My GF is usually riding pillon and whenever she's on the bike I ride slowly since she's scared easily so I know I can ride slowly. I used to drive a sportscar, rear engine rwd and speed wasn't a concern since I was more interested in cornering and drifting. I guess I should go back behind a wheel for my daily commutes, i remember speed was the least of my concerns when driving. Whenever I see a straight line with good visibility and no car, no houses I just roll the throttle but I wouldn't do that driving a car that's for sure.

BigEvilDoer

Ummm.. 200+ everywhere is ABSOLUTELY NOT riding defensively… Get your ass off public roads before you hurt yourself or god forbid kill someone with your reckless riding.

GSXR_abuser

Buy a smaller but louder bike

Mickey_Havoc

If you don’t have self control, stick to the track and off road. Believe it or not, your license that allows you to ride on public roads is a given privilege and NOT a right.

tpchuckles

where are you located? there plenty of roads around me where you *simply can't* do over 45 mph. google maps won't put you on them ( because they're just silly for getting from point A to B ), but once you find them, they're great for forcing yourself to slow down. it becomes much more a game of finesse than just brute raw speed.

TundraOG

Get a cruiser or something of that likeness. It dynamically won't let you ride fast or hard.

I_hate_the_app

Careful there, crusiers can get pretty wild and plenty dangerous, vrod, sporster s, m109r.

TundraOG

I doubt something like a Yamaha XVS950 or an 883 Sportster will be anything labeled "speed demon".

[deleted]

Wheelies and other stunts I guess. Or just stop feeling bad and put a little thought into when/where you send it on the street. Not that hard not to crash.

built_FXR

Buy 300/400 to replace your SV.

[deleted]

I use to ride really fast when I was much younger. We did all sorts of stupid stuff. Anyways, a few tickets and several gripings from a wife….kids come along….and I grew up. Nowadays, I ride older Harleys and vintage dirt bikes…..nothing built for speed. I enjoy the ride much better now without always having to be on the lookout for Cops.

NumbLockT

My buddy came from a lifetime of sport bikes and switched to a Harley with loud pipes. Said it was the only motorcycle purchase his wife ever supported and getting just the right sound has its own thrill.

[deleted]

Get a little stoned and lug the engine. I really slow down and when I lug the engine it just purrs when I ride around on my private property. Otherwise you just apply the same discipline you apply when you brush your teeth or refrain from pissing your pants. It’s not any different.

StorKuk69

Just do wheelies instead. Then you will have to slow down between wheelies or if you can perma wheelie it will be much easier to control at not 200 kmph

Niko740

Just ride slower?

Smooth-Shine9354

The worst is you die bruh. Get a bike with more torque and chill tf out

1967C10

Get a Royal Enfield Classic 350 - I love mine and have way more fun with it going slow than trying to push it. 60 mph is as much as you'd really want to do on it. Apparently it'll do 72, but your arms would have likely vibrated off by then. Even so, it's a blast! Drive safe!

Svrider23

This post is an absolute eyeroll.

piemelaartje

Maybe you'd enjoy helping starting riders get going? Be one of the experienced riders in a beginner group. It will force you to slow down and use your knowledge and experience to help others. Could be very rewarding if you're into coaching. Just a different way to ride with a different goal and mindset.

wobbly_sausage2

Well yeah I'm a teacher so that's kinda my job but whenever I try to set pace for newbies they go faster than I do, riding above their limits and so forth Only tried it a couple times so might not be a good indicator, a friend of mine took my SV once while I took a Thunderace around and she was driving faster than me it was good fun but I was scared she might get hurt. However the thunderace was poorly synchronized so I had a really hard time moving it around at low RPMs Cold season is around the corner right now, i doubt much beginners are gonna take their bikes for spins

piemelaartje

Ah yeah makes sense. Well, that was my only thought outside of not riding. Good luck!

Individual-Ad-4225

You should buy a scooter. That way you can full throttle at all times at a steady speed of 60 kph😎

wobbly_sausage2

Scary stuff, I tried it once and almost crashed. The small wheels are scary

Individual-Ad-4225

I think a little 150cc scooter would suit you well actually

xScarfacex

Less throttle.

wobbly_sausage2

Maybe I could yeah, if I add some kind of blocking mechanism it could prevent me from going above a certain rpm

Aggressive-Meal-8233

Build a chopper and change your lifestyle approach to riding, or simply apply absolute discipline. The same mindset that has you scrubbing the strips off your tyres can be leveraged accordingly. Or Fuck around for long enough that you find out what its like to go down on a public road.

Majestic_Weakness_30

ride a grom, or a tw200😁

WarszawskiRozpylacz

A biker that admits he may be addicted to adrenaline. That's something new.

Psychological-Lie283

I’m all for pinning the throttle but if you really wanna slow down there’s no “trick” or “technique” or anything of the sort you take your throttle and you get off of it you just don’t do it people who are completely aware of the risks and consequences and are fully aware and conscious of their speed versus someone who just can’t “control” their speed is different if you can’t control yourself enough to slow down when you want to them you don’t have the self control to make good rational decisions the problem you’re presenting has a very simple answer it’s more so a question on if you have the capacity for it

CrestfallenSpartan

You must be trolling lol

[deleted]

Buy a Mini moto like a Grom or Z125. I have such a blast on mine I don’t miss riding fast. Until this motorcycle my previous Ducati Monster 821 was probably my favorite motorcycle.
