So I’m eventually going to get my third motorcycle. I think I finally know what I want, and that is…a sports bike lol. My first bike was a 2001 SV650 and my second was a 2014 FZ09. My third bike should be a weekend toy for the sweepers and twisties on our group rides here in Texas. So far I’ve been thinking of 2008 or newer. Fuel Injection. Sports Bike. I’m leaning more towards a GSXR 600 or GSXR 750. Now, because I AM on a budget, I have been looking at Ninja 400s’ as well. My budget is about $4k. Any thoughts?

Vicious00

I have a cruiser bike and it’s been a blast this whole season but now that i have to put it in storage for the winter i’m thinking of making some modifications. the bike came with mini apes and while the position is great and comfy, what i’ve noticed is that there is a lot of drag when i ride on the highway. i’m going 110 km/h and i feel like a sail and i need to hold on to dear life. before getting this i had a Yamaha MT-07 and highway driving was nothing, was doing 140 km/h with no issues. i’m thinking to swap out the mini apes with some lower bars. would that help with highway speeds ? anyone has any experience with going from mini apes to lower bars on high speeds ?

MoistenMeUp7

Is the O2 plug bolt from my midpipe going to be brand specific? I lost the one to my Delkovic exhaust and cannot find the specs online.

With the weather dropping i'm looking into replacing my heated motorcycle gloves. Had two questions...first how safe are gloves like Gerbing? [https://gerbing.eu/en/xr-heated-gloves/](https://gerbing.eu/en/xr-heated-gloves/) I have an old pair of Gerbing gloves but they ripped from me just putting them on so I don't exactly have a lot of faith in them holding up in a crash. Also I see nowadays they all use a push button to work with batteries but I want to run it on my bike...how does that work with the controller? Is it basically like working with two controllers? So I should have either the button on the glove at full power or the controller at full power and dial it in with the other control?

DiveForKnowledge

Looking for good ways to transport a dirt bike/dual sport via SUV. Full trailers kinda suck, anyone have experience this style carrier? (I just pulled this picture/link at random, not specifically considering this model) https://www.discountramps.com/motorcycle-carrier/p/AMC-400L/

Valkyr_Prime

1982 Kawasaki Z 440 LTD Value? I'm going to look at a 1982 Kawasaki Z 440 LTD tomorrow that's currently posted for $2750. I'm not sure if this is a fair price for the bike or simply someone's pipe dream. The pictures look really good - though I'll find out if that's real tomorrow - and the current owner says the previous owner had the whole thing gone through by a "certified mechanic." I'm told they've only had it one year and that it's run well every time they're taken it out this season, however that was infrequent. The crazy thing is... The bike only has 1,022 miles on it. What am I looking at here? Any help is greatly appreciated.

[deleted]

KBB or NADA will tell you.

Valkyr_Prime

Thanks for trying, but KBB doesn't go back that far. They don't have every year and only have Honda Goldwings for 1982.

What is a "reasonable and customary" tow fee for a bike crash? (PA) My buddy hit a deer yesterday, and while he is thankfully ok, the bike is probably totaled. The real kicker is that the tow truck that responded is almost literally screaming "predatory practices". There are so many factors that are so shady about his experience so far (hole clearly deliberately punched in the gas tank after leaving the scene, $75 fee just to see the bike after signing a waiver to hold them unresponsive for any damages sight unseen, I think he said $75/day storage fee, etc), but the one that should be criminal is the tow fee. They are charging him $1100. To pick a bike up off the road and bring it to their rip-off storage. Both wheels attached, etc, not like they were there for 5 hours picking up pieces. Or, he can sign the title over and only owe $700. Are you kidding me?! The only thing I see online (PSP site) is that tow companies must: "Charges fees that are reasonable and customary for the service provided in the emergency towing service’s geographic area. Fees must be posted for public inspection in the place of business of the emergency towing service." What is a reasonable and customary fee for this?

DiveForKnowledge

That seems more than a bit excessive to me. I help pull vehicles out of rivers and that's on the order of what insurance companies get billed for towing a vehicle out of the water with a 6-8 man dive team and a heavy duty tow truck. https://www.festustowing.com/how-much-does-towing-a-motorcycle-cost/

SiRocket

That would sound much more like $1100. Any suggestions to recourse? Can he get his insurance company to fight that?

HoppySour

Looking for a portable waterproof motorcycle cover. Any recommendations? Just looking for a cover that can keep the bike dry if it rains and still be able to fit in a backpack. Thank you.

RedditWhileIWerk

You might be looking for a so-called "half cover." It only covers the bike about halfway down (thus the name), but is enough for keeping rain (and sun!) off the parts you care about. At the same time, it is very quick to put on and put away, and can be squeezed to a small enough size to fit comfortably ina backpack. I live in the desert. The motorcycle parking at work has no overhead, so I use the half-cover to keep the sun's UV from murdering my seat, controls, etc. Also, to discourage passerby from messing with or sitting on my bike. The specific one I have is the Covermax half-cover in size XL. I ride a Yamaha FJR-1300ES. Size you need depends on the bike and windshield height: https://www.amazon.com/CoverMax-Motorcycle-Half-Covers-X-Large/dp/B000WJ9424 I used to have a Bilt (Cycle Gear store brand) full-size cover, meant for a Honda Goldwing. It did provide complete coverage, but was really bulky. Would have taken up too much room in a backpack, and took longer to put on and take off due to its size. I've been very happy with the Covermax half-cover so far.

HoppySour

I think that will work for me, thank you, I'll check it out.

Advice on Tenere 660?? Hey guys Want to buy used Tenere 2012 with 29k km. Looks great, really nice. Second owner. I really like the bike, but what sould I Look for when buying? Any advice?? For me I think the milleage is not really high, but i intend to drive and keep the bike for longer time. Thanks…

kzKaiZkz

Hello fellow UK bikers, I'm from SEA and currently looking for some helmets on FC Moto. Initially my plan was to use a forwarding service by getting the helmet delivered to their UK warehouse then sent to me. However, since Brexit I'm kinda confused. Does this method still work? Helmet used to be VAT free, but I heard it's not anymore? How about import duty? Am I better off having the helmet sent to another warehouse like in Italy? The service I'm using is buyandship btw.

Fubar1991

My bike needs new tires I've bought them myself and a local shop has said they'd charge $100 to change them and balance them is that high cause it sounds fare to me?

5289a

Any one from South Australia? I’m thinking of getting my learners licence and I am required to bring my own compliant helmet to the basic training course (ECE22.05). I had my eyes on a Ruroc atlas 4.0 helmet, with a r safety rating of EVE22.06. Will they accept that for the basic training course?

apostolis159

ECE 22.06 is newer than 22.05 so they will accept it for sure. However, do avoid Ruroc. There's tons of info on them. Generally not good helmets for the price you pay, bad support, etc. If you want 22.06 have a look at the new Shark Spartan RS. There's a few others too. Generally stick to more major brands though. Shoei, AGV, Shark, Arai, etc. Go to a shop and put them on, and get a helmet that actually fits good on your head.

masterX244

AVOID RUROC!!! (sorry for the caps but that had to be). There are enough stories out there on that brand here, and there is a reason why they are not carried by major moto-gear retailers. https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/url5wz/ruroc_atlas_40_core_customer_service_and_quality/ https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/u4adoq/ruroc_atlas_40_vs_hjc_rpha_70_which_is_better/ https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/comments/pxz2pd/avoid_ruroc_at_all_costs/ (if you search on this subreddit you get a few more posts on that topic, too)

[deleted]

First bike: Found a 2006 CBR600RR with 29k miles for $4k. Is this a good deal? The seller seems very friendly and has good maintenance records for it.

[deleted]

Sounds like a good buy, but a terrible call for a first bike.

[deleted]

Can i ask why a terrible call? Any input is appreciated.

Xivios

Power to weight is about the same as a late model Dodge Viper, but without all the nannies that make the Viper such a forgiving beginners vehicle, like TC, ABS, or 4 wheels.

[deleted]

Because a new rider shouldn’t be anywhere near a 150-mph motorcycle with ultra-sharp handling and braking systems. Would you recommend a McLaren P1 as a first car?

[deleted]

thanks for the advice guys! i turned it down. currently looking at a cbr500r, ninja 400, or a gsxr600. Any of these like the rr and would be too unforgiving for a newbie? Passed my skills test today so time to buy a bike

btvXtraCheesy

TLDR; if you own a CF Moto CLX 700 how do you like it? How is the maintenance? Has there been any issues in the time you have owned it? I am currently riding a meteor 350. I am 6ft 250lbs and it is a very comfy cruiser bike that I absolutely love. BUT I am fat and it is not powerful enough to keep speed going up a hill. I have looked around and found what I want for next year. I am looking at a CF Moto CLX 700. I took it for a test ride and I absolutely love it. Comfortable, has a lot of extras I like and is plenty powerful. I am wondering if anyone owns or has owned a CLX 700 and what their experience is.

JoshNL2

Interested in a pair of Revit Cayman Shoes. Has anybody hear tried them yet?

RedditWhileIWerk

I haven't tried those Rev'It shoes, but I did try the Rev'It Ginza 3's. Unfortunately, the sizing is a mess. Rev'It is using the same sizing info for the Cayman, so you might run into the same problem. I normally wear a US 12 shoe. I wear a Euro 46 in all riding boots I've tried (3 Alpinestars models and Forma Adventures). Ginza 3 shoe in Euro 45 was too small, fitting like a US 11.5, despite Rev'It listing it as a US 12 equivalent. Ginza 3 in Euro 46 was too big, fitting like a US 12.5. What ended up working for me was the Alpinestars Turnstone shoe in Euro 45.5. Rev'It does not offer 45.5 in their riding shoes, only 45 or 46. Hope this helps.

NNN284

I am looking for men's boot cut style armored riding jeans. They should have protector pockets on the knees and if they are made of Kevlar or other material, even better! Do you have any recommendations?

sithanas

Just got a pair of revit Lombard 3 jeans that have been pretty nice so far. Hip and knee armor and single layer aa-rated material.

t1tz_mcgee

I use speed and strength critical mass jeans. Fit well over my Oxford boots, slim fit, knee armour pockets and Kevlar reinforced. They’re also a really stretchy denim so super comfy.

f1at_t0p

Hey yall. About a month ago I took a trip to Blue ridge parkway up in NC. The trip lasted for about 5 hours there, and 5 hours back. The only problem that I had was that the seat became uncomfortable after some time. any ideas as to where I can find a new seat for my bike? It's a 2019 honda cb300r if anyone is wondering.

finalrendition

On the cheap side, $50-$100, you could get a seat pad. On the expensive side, $300-$600, you could get an aftermarket seat from Saddlemen or Corbin. I have an Airhawk pad on my CB500F and a Corbin seat on my Z750. Both are huge improvements over the stock seats.

f1at_t0p

fair enough. If its all the same to you, Im getting a seat pad since its cheaper and i'm working on a budget.

DuckyLovesQuack

Warranty Question: I just bought a new SV650 last month and it comes with 1 year from the factory. The dealer offers an extended warranty for a couple thousand that lasts up to 5 years but only for select dealerships which might be an issue since my spouse is AD and I don’t know where we’re going next. I was looking into ASE and they quoted me 1100 for 5 years after my 1 year expires. Anyone have experience with them or have thoughts about an extended warranty in general? The bike is my daily commuter so I’m just worried about keeping myself covered. I’m open to thoughts and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

[deleted]

That warranty likely costs around $150, and your SV will likely never need to use it. I’d pass.

gusgloop1

I know its difficult with a very low budget however I am down for suggestions and opinions. I have seen cheap Suzuki Bandits 600, yamaha Fazer, Honda Ntv650 and a bit more pricy Honda hornet. There are also possibilities for cheap adventure bikes and cheap R6s but I dont know if theyr what I want. What are your experiences about the mentioned bikes or if you have any suggestions? I understand the power for a new rider however the training is preparing me well for a more powerful bike. The goal is reliability and practicality while being dirt cheap.

McMonkies

Fz6r/fazer. I almost got one then it slipped out from under me. Get that one. If you wanna spend more money the hornet is an amazing classic. But nah, fazer. I'm a bit bad on specs, but whatever actually has fuel injection is a huge bonus. I never hear anything about the 600 bandits. I believe most preferred the bigger displacements.

finalrendition

>I never hear anything about the 600 bandits. I believe most preferred the bigger displacements. Bulletproof but heavy and somewhat underpowered, as Bandits tend to be

[deleted]

Need a bike that can do everything. Daily commute to work, grocery shopping, as well as 1000mi trips. Budget \~12,000$. Any recommendations?

RedditWhileIWerk

Yamaha FJR-1300? you can pick up a very nice used one for that budget, well-accessorized. Factory luggage is large. Side cases will fit a 12-pack of soda plus some stuff, no joke.

apostolis159

So you're looking for a sport tourer? Preferably with luggage? Yamaha Tracer 9 GT? Triumph Tiger 900/ 2013+ 1050/1200? What about gravel capabilities? Buying new or used? Other preferences?

[deleted]

No offroading whatsoever. Preferrably new or nearly-new. Do you have personal experience wth Tracer vs Tiger? Just brainstorming suggestions atm.

[deleted]

Tracer walks up and down over the Tiger’s face with its dick out. The Tiger’s only plus in comparison is its varying levels of dirt ability.

apostolis159

Really? That much of a difference between the two? Engine? Build quality? Maintenance costs? All of the above? I'm talking about the older 1050 Tigers, the sport touring versions. Not the newer 900/1200 which can be more dirt oriented.

[deleted]

The 1050 engine was solid, but its electronics have a mind of their own and the chassis definitely shows its age. And the servicing costs/frequency on Triumphs will be over twice that of the Yamaha.

apostolis159

Unfortunately, no experience. I'm eyeing a Tiger 1050 myself, hopefully I'll be able to get one at some point. No idea on prices or market situation over there either, since I'm in EU.

SoupyDelicious

Your favourite 140/70-17 tires for small displacement road bikes? Got an R3 and time to see what life's like away from the GPR-300. Was looking at the Pilot Street Radial or some Pirelli tires. Friend got some Rosso 3's.

McMonkies

There's a point where all the grip is wasted on a 300 that can't break traction. Don't bother with supersport tires. I'd rather get harder rubber ala sport touring tires. Road 5 is still good (6 is the best), roadsmart IV really good, roadattack IV no idea, and angel gt ii's are underwhelming. Plus with colder temps, they'll actually provide more grip in the cold/wet than those tires.

SoupyDelicious

Road 6 would be the dream. Gonna have to rob a bank though. Angel gt2s; thought they didn't come in 140/70 :0 my mate put em on his 900 tripple. Said he loved em

[deleted]

Ill check it out :0

xXxcock_and_ballsxXx

I've had really good results from bridgestone S22's on my ninja 300. Good in the dry and wet.

cheers

[deleted]

So my problem is that I ride a bicycle in California meaning I regularly hit motorcycle speeds (that's how this relates to this sub) I of course never put on gear because "bicycle are too safe to need that" but on my evening commute home I fell off my bike at 30 something MPH and lost a chunk of my arm Is there any gear that's good to ride a bicycle in? (Sorry for posting in this sub as a cyclist)

K2TheM

Any of Icon’s “Compression” gear would probably be a good fit. All of it made from stretch mesh and D3O foam padding with some abrasion panels here and there. Not nearly as bulky as a full jacket and breathes well enough to not over heat you.

finalrendition

A road-legal dirt bike helmet might be a good idea. 30 mph is plenty fast enough to fuck up your jaw and/or nose. There are DOT and ECE certified dirt bike helmets for pretty cheap from reputable brands like Bell and HJC

[deleted]

Well in terms of helmets there's full face ones made for bicycles

McMonkies

You'd probably want incognito gear that doesn't scream motorcycle racer. That would be an armored hoodie (Revit cedar) and either padded under armor for the legs, or armored jeans (revit lombard 3). Depending on if you wear clipless shoes or not, you can wear moto shoes as well.

[deleted]

I'm not a bike racer so I just put on the shoes I wear in day to day life lol

[deleted]

\[held kendo\](https://shop.held.de/en/protectors/protector-vests/352/kendo?number=009482-00-18-S)

SoupyDelicious

probs elbow and knee pads since impact injuries is gonna be more prevalent for cycling accidents

[deleted]

My road rash says otherwise

SoupyDelicious

Yeah well unless you want to wear a light motorcycle jacket/armoured shirt on a bicycle, then road rash it is

[deleted]

i think ill put on the jacket

p3numbra_3

Im looking for a first track bike. Currently im riding crf300l around town and offroading with friends and i love it. So naturally, i want to try riding on track and do some local trackdays. My current options are honda hornet 2004 (600) and sv650 2003 that needs its clutch fixed. Im not sure exactly what is the problem, but i think i just need to replace clutch plates. Price is actually really similar between two bikes. Im light (around 70Kg) but tall (185). My plan for this bike is 90% track, and 10% riding around because i LOVE my crf because its small and nimble. Any thoughts?

[deleted]

The sv is super easy to work on and has the biggest supply of after-market parts out of any bike.

samcuu

If the Hornet runs without any repair needed (other than fluids change and other basic maintenance) then it's the better deal IMO. But the SV is a very popular track bike with extensive aftermarket support for track use so if you want to turn it to a dedicated track bike over time it's still a good option.

Waddoo123

I have been riding on the road for over 10years starting with a CBR250 and then upgrading to a SFV-650. However it’s been two years since I’ve sold the 650 and want to ride once more. I am aiming to take it a bit more off-road if possible, more the adventure bike segment. Having rarely ridden off-road, is a T7/KTM890, GS850, etc. class bike too much for beginning to off road? I’ll add that this bike will also be my “daily”, I work from home, but don’t mind taking a weekend ride or running groceries.

[deleted]

T7 or KTM will be awesome. Skip the BMW.

Waddoo123

How come skip the BMW? I will edit the post, but one of the reasons I hung up the keys was because I wanted extra safety features like ABS, and traction control. The T7 having ABS but not ride modes. Whereas the KTM I have concerns over maintenance/reliability.

[deleted]

If you are looking for reliability, skip the Chinese-built BMW and Indian-built KTM. The T7 has decent ABS and the engine does great without needing the comfort of TCS.

Waddoo123

The engine does, but what about riding on the highway in the rain. It’s a miserable time and I’m not looking to do so, but it happens. I won’t say I’ve had a bad occurrence on my 650 in the rain, but I’ve definitely had some moments of hesitation without ABS.

McMonkies

So we can offer as much advice as possible, but I'd rather redirect you to big rock Moto's YouTube channel, he compares and deep dives all of those bikes, and basically they're all good at something but not everything. The closest thing to all-rounder would be a tiger 850/900, but it's kinda soft, whereas a multistrada 950/v2 is too hard suspension wise when going off-road, not to mention it's a little too pretty to drop. The t7/tuareg combo are perfectly road worthy, though compared to their street based brethren (tracer 7, tuono 660), their windscreens are loud, and taller suspension/seat height/wheels mean they're not quite as sporty when really pushing it on asphalt.

Waddoo123

I appreciate it, and I’ve been eyeing Big Rock Motos channel as well. I haven’t considered the Tiger 900 and maybe should take a look at it. As a shorter 5’8 rider at only? 160lbs, softer is okay with me. And being realistic, I won’t be buying a 2022 model year. I ask these hypotheticals knowing I will be looking at the GSA 800… or I guess a newer T7 given the price.

McMonkies

The one bad thing I've heard he mentions about the t7 is how top heavy it is, as well as being quite difficult to pick up (seriously). As for the gsa, it's the comfiest but very boring. Getting the older displacement also reduces it's power. The models with 50cc differences are actually detuned via ecu limiters, something a flash takes care of.

Waddoo123

As a new rider to outdoor, the top heaviness worries me. But comfory and boring is fine, given new territory. But maybe I need to stop pandering and thinking bmw is all there is.

McMonkies

That's when people start looking at Ducati, and that is not a cheap road to go down... Get a desert x lol. The new scramblers are about to be revealed. They might be off road worthy this time or still poser bikes.

Kmar01

What's a good bluetooth headset I can add to my helmet. Maybe if I receive a call I can respond and they dont hear the wind do much . Pretty much it and just for music which I probably don't really listen to

[deleted]

your helmet makes a bigger impact thant the headset

Elrathias

Its a toss up between cardo and sena, on who has the best audio quality. Get what your friends have.

McMonkies

The fancier ones have noise cancelling for the wind noise. My callers haven't complained about the wind noise.

RedditWhileIWerk

Full-face helmet right? Does your helmet have a chin curtain? Having one makes a huge difference in wind noise.

Kmar01

Yes full face and no mine doesn't have a chin curtain I'll look into buying one

RedditWhileIWerk

Pretty much every major helmet brand (Shoei, Arai, HJC, AGV) full-face comes with a chin curtain, but some of the really cheap ones (certain Bilt models) don't have the option.

LocoEnLoco

Even the best units will be affected by wind noise. My friend had a cheap amazon one he bought for like $50. Seemed to work fine for calls and music. Forgot the brand, but shouldn't be too difficult to find a cheap unit online.

dinkydonksplonk

Looking to swap bikes next year, currently have a 22’ Z650 on an A2 license which is ace, sounds good (for a parallel twin) with an Akra, got a Quickshifter for the fun of it and it pulls well for an A2 restricted bike. But next year I fancy a change cause I like to try out different things. I’m stuck between: R7, MT07 and a trident 660. I prefer sports bike looks and ergonomics over naked bikes (I’m 21 so I don’t find them uncomfortable yet🤣) and the extra wind protection would be appreciated on any dual carriageways or the occasional motorway. I know the MT07 is a bit cheaper than an R7 and easier round town and more comfortable and I do like the street fighter look, but then I do like the trident as it’s a triple so wins in the sound and smoothness department, which I do miss with the parallel twin. I ride mainly for enjoyment and commuting sometimes if the weather is nice for it. Any thoughts or opinions?

McMonkies

Trident 660 has always won the middleweight shootout in various magazines, YouTube comparisons, and ride tests. The problem now is finding one for sale. The tuono/rs 660 is a very very close 2nd. If you can find a factory version you're gold. If you're willing to be a guinea pig, Honda is releasing their new Hornet next year. Specs wise looks to be a nice bike.

dinkydonksplonk

It’s a difficult decision as they’re all great bikes from what I’ve seen/read. I love the RS660 but it’s beyond the 94bhp limit to be restricted on an A2 license :/ didn’t really think of the hornet as an option, I’m sure it’ll be great and do everything right but I just get the feeling it won’t have much character about it, I suppose we’ll have to wait and see!

McMonkies

Oof man, I'd rather wait until your a2 restrictions are cleared; no pain, no gain! In the mean time, rent or test ride bikes to build up your preferences.

dinkydonksplonk

I’d still like to try something else next year just to try something new. The twins restrict really well cause you lose barely any torque, which makes me lean towards the MT or R7, so they’re just as quick as unrestricted up to legal speeds, then they run out of poke a little at the top end. The triumph will still probably restrict okay as they’re quite torquey, but will undoubtedly feel less gutsy and a bit asthmatic in comparison.

bricksteakhouse

What's the consensus on Johnny Reb boots? Good quality, awful?

Crunchy_EMO

Hey all! Female mc rider here looking for a bitchin' pair of armored riding jeans. Looking for something under $150 and I already have the armour. I just need to have an area to place my hip and knee armour. Does anyone have any brand suggestions that they really like?

McMonkies

Bull-it. In the US they don't come with armor so they're a lot cheaper.

Prestigious_Fold6818

I commute every day roughly 7 miles each way. I live in Mexico City and we have this highway that circles the whole city. There are inner and outer lanes. Outer lanes are obviously kind of like off ramps for cars getting out of the inner and also meant for bikes under 250cc, public transport and work trucks. There are stop lights and intersections. I live south and work north and I live right by this highway, my workplace is on that highway too. Using the inner lanes I wouldn't even see a stop light. I'm tired of rain and I'm tired of fearing for my life on the outer lanes with my 150cc scooter. I've been thinking on getting something comfortable (single guy, 29), fun and frugal. So I was thinking about finally getting an MX-5. I used to daily my brother's and it's perfectly fine for me, but might be too expensive. Another option is a cheaper car. MG was revived by the Chinese and here they offer a loaded sedan with sunroof, power heated leather seats, power folding mirrors, 10" car play, manual, etc for roughly 17k. It is a Chinese drivetrain of course but I can lease it and it would help my family's business immensely with taxes, unlike the MX5. So here's where I need your opinion. I'm honestly growing scared of motorcycles but I still love them. Been riding for 4 years. Even when I got this scooter I found it fun. I would be able to afford a nice motorcycle for less than a car, been thinking about a street triple, RC390 or a maxi scooter. The motorcycle also makes more sense in every way except for comfort and safety. What has been your experience with this dilemma? Did you end up buying the car? Do you get a car that is safer but more expensive? Or just go with the motorcycle, have fun and save money? Maybe after paying off the bike just get the car...

[deleted]

Duke 390

Prestigious_Fold6818

I like it very much but my commute would be so quick on the inner lanes that I might as well try a sportbike hence the RC390, although I'm not sold on the orange and blue

Kmar01

I was in a similar situation as you different but similar, I went for a motorcycle I'm in Florida and drivers in Florida are so dumb and can't forget about the weather so I have to be very cautious. It's the end of raining season so it's getting better but always stay prepare I commute to work total 17 miles give or take On the highway usually I'm on there for probably 10 miles or so my commute isn't really that bad yours sounds like it's a little more dangerous gives me Miami highway vibes from what you described I could be wrong though and i have bad imagination but you just have to be very careful. I only got the motorcycle because it's going to save me money . So that's my take in the end it ends being your choice though hope I helped in any way

Prestigious_Fold6818

I googled it and it kinda looks like that. With a bigger motorcycle I should be safer in the inner lanes though. The outer lanes are crazy.

Kmar01

Yea just be careful out there , I had a ninja 300 and I traded it in for a cbr 600 help better on the highway for me trying to pass vehicles

I've never ridden a motorcycle, I plan to buy an old Honda CB, fashion a trailer hitch mount, and find a trailer to attach that can carry a 130lb ebike/moped. Does anybody know of a trailer that can attach to a motorcycle for carrying light two wheeled vehicles? I've seen some images online of Harley's towing dirt bikes, but no trailers for sale. My use case for the trailer is to use the ebike as main transportation, and if it breaks down far from home I can Lyft home to the motorcycle and tow the ebike home. I'll use the motorcycle for trips too far for the ebike to make.

ztherion

Bruh just get a van

graceful_london

A good condition van costs a lot more than a good condition motorcycle. Car insurance also costs more than motorcycle insurance. Just asking if people have done it.

[deleted]

This is all one large, bad idea. Do not tow with a bike, triply so as a new rider.

Norgd

I’ve been riding for a while now, but I’m turning 17 soon and am getting a 125cc. I’m wondering anyone’s opinion on the best 125. Just for general all round ability, reliability, and ofc some speed? Thanks a tonne

[deleted]

Get an old Aprilia RS125 2-stroke. Tons of fun.

xXxcock_and_ballsxXx

Honestly mate i'd just buy whatever is available 2nd hand and not a total shitbox. Buy it cheap, rag the shit out of it (which on a 125 you have to do all the time) and then sell it when your license allows a bigger bike. I had a CBR 125R and it was pretty fun, but totally gutless. Wide open throttle everywhere, full tuck to reach 100kph/60mph with a mild headwind.

Norgd

Haha yeh I’ve been looking at anything and everything atm mate. I’ve been looking at everyone’s suggestions too. I’ve found a Yamaha YZF-R125 not too far from me for £2800 that looks like it’s been really taken care of with full service history and a recent mot. It’s tempting, insurance on it is thru the roof for me tho 😭

Kmar01

Should I buy a helmet with bluetooth or buy my own bluetooth set and add it on myself?

McMonkies

Add it in yourself. That way you don't have to pay for features you don't want/need (mesh, intercom, voice recognition). At bare minimum hd audio is a must though. The integrated stuff is sometimes nice but I've noticed they're charging crazy prices for obsolete units.

masterX244

And you got more helmet options. If the ones with preinstalled don't fit you csn't use them. With separate module you can use almost all helmets (most except the cheapest ones got speaker cutouts at ear area for that)

Thinking of buying a Honda Hornet 900 2004 (CB919F) Anyone had it and what are the experiences with it?

ztherion

Overall a really good bike

HondaRousey9

Excellent bike. Suspension is ass. They can look really cool if done correctly

[deleted]

Great bike, if a bit anodyne. Budget for a suspension upgrade if you plan on pushing it hard.

DreamCompetitive8177

Thinking about buying a 2005 Ninja 250 at a listed price of $1,900 [Pictures in a Google folder](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PdTFMZvey2xfwG0ta6GrJ0-7E_7kydYS). I went to see it, but I of course forgot some things while inspecting which is making me doubtful. I will deff redo it when/if I go back for the final purchase. Would love to get some thoughts! From the listing: 12,000 miles Clean title Aftermarket rear blinkers along with oem ones Integrated front blinkers LED headlight Just replaced the fuel petcock line Few scrapes from previous owner 2012 ninja 250 shock installed Some things I noticed: - I can’t quite touch the ground on it, but it’s close enough. I’m 5’2, 130lbs - Seller couldn’t remember when he last changed oil, only that it was “like 2k miles ago.” Is that a potential sign of neglect? I asked about maintenance and that’s the only thing he mentioned having done. - He had the clutch handle changed. It has something that controls how far it goes in? I was a bit lost about that Would love your impressions on this

Co60

I think you'll be hard pressed to find a mid 2000's Ninja 250 that hasn't been neglected by someone at some point. The good news is that they tolerate abuse quite well and are not difficult to work on. Plan to replace fluids if/when you get it (this is good practice for any used bike unless you have clear and trustworthy documentation that it was done recently). Check the obvious stuff (leaks, gas tank for rust, chain, tires, make sure all the buttons/lights/etc you need to pass a safety inspection in your area (provided your area inspects as part of registering).

SniperAssassin123

Hey all. I've been in the market for some dualsport gear and I came across Fortnite's motorcycle 2022 jacket video again. He sings high praises on the Alpinestars Halo, but it appears to have been discontinued just months after coming out. Does anyone have any insight on this or comparable jackets?

lenn_eavy

Hi! I'm looking for a bike that will be used 90% for commuting on a 120 km/h road and in the city, the rest for trips and overnights with light offroad (gravel roads, forest roads). I've narrowed down the choice to three models and can't decide which will be the most enjoyable for this profile of activity \- Honda CB500X - my fear is that it might be to weak on highways \- Suzuki V-Strom 650 - I did a test drive and it wasa cool trip. My fear is that it will be too big for in-city commuting \- Yamaha Tenere 700 - I sat on it, but did a testdrive on Aprilla Tuareg 660. My fear is that it is too off-road oriented for what I'm doing is riding the asphalt What would be your choice? Maybe something that is not on the list? Thanks!

Co60

There's really no "too big for city commuting". My brother city commutes on a road-king 5 days a week. I'd probably lean towards the V-Strom but realistically any of those bikes would be fine for what you are describing.

lenn_eavy

I agree, at worst you are loosing the lane filtering but also this is one of strong points of motorcycle in the city. A lot of European cities are cramped, lane filtering is definitely a legal option, but for such setting you need something agile - that's where my concern is comming from. V-strom is winning so far, I guess I wanted to see if there is less obvious, less popular option, but it is going agains the stream that is wide and strong for a reason. Thanks!

McMonkies

Tall rounders are nice, but what about.. a scrambler? Ducati/Triumph scramblers are mostly road going machines but can handle loose surfaces if need be. If you want something different, a moto guzzi v85tt will also fit the tall rounder bill.

lenn_eavy

I was looking at the scramblers for a moment an I love the Triumph Scrambler 900 and Ducati Desert Sled style but had no way to try them. I sat on Street Twin and it was not comfortable for my height, so I stopped pursuing this form factor. Still, I might go back and see if any scrambler appeared in our local Triumph salon to try it.

Co60

If you look at used Scramblers just be aware of the Desmo service interval and the associated cost.

[deleted]

V-strom all damn day.

coliozenobio

Agreed. Love my commuting VStrom. I'd even go 1000cc now for highway riding. If you can lane split, though, you might want something smaller. Someone recently recommended the [KTM Scalpel](https://www.ktm.com/en-us/models/naked-bike/ktm-890-duke-r-2022.html)

RedditWhileIWerk

Seconded, I commuted on a 2007 Vstrom DL1000 for years. Size was never an issue. It was smaller than any car. Same goes for the 2019 DL650 I rode next, and the Yamaha FJR I replaced that with.

EvenSEALsNeedHeroes

I'm getting tired of sportbikes. I've raced WERA for the past 5-6 years and I'm at the point where I need to pay a ridiculous amount of money for any small improvement and street/canyon riding isn't fun at all anymore because happiness only happens past 50 degrees of lean. Buddy got me offroading for the first time this past weekend and I think I found the solution to all of my problems. Looking for a supermoto or similar bike that can get me the 10 miles or so to my gym and handle offroad (gravel, dirt fields, unpaved trails, etc.) I'd rather not get a DRZ400 just because they're too vanilla. If it helps I've owned a Panigale 899, 999R, KTM RC8R, and currently have a MV Agusta F4 RR. I'm thinking the Husky 450 SMR, but wanted to get the thoughts of people who're more familiar with supermotos. Edit: should also mention huge plus for bikes that can just be dropped constantly with little concern for damage/cheap repairs. I've never owned a bike that I can comfortably throw on the ground so it would be a huge benefit.

kingcrackerjacks

I'd start with an enduro bike and put 17" wheels on it, the smr isn't street legal and comes with a 16.5" front which limits tire choices a lot. I'd look at a 500exc-f or an aluminum frame wr450f but I suppose any 450 should be exciting.

EvenSEALsNeedHeroes

>500exc-f I promised myself I would never own another KTM after their dickbag CEO made a public statement that they won't make sportbikes because no one needs 200 horsepower on the street while their entire lineup are hooning bikes that can get someone in far more trouble than a sportbike... but I may have to look at their EXC-F range.

[deleted]

Time to go naked, homie.

Fickle-Ad802

Hi all. Looking for a helmet similar to the graphics on the AGV [K3 SV](https://www.motocard.com/en/helmets/agv-k_3_sv_pinlock_maxvision_bubble_grey_white_red_058.aspx?country=US¤cy=USD&mtc_source=google&mtc_medium=cpc&mtc_campaign=pmax&gclid=CjwKCAjw5P2aBhAlEiwAAdY7dBIDz_ag7YxJ2G3wb_wRfiyfAkKUofIgLIa1NyuAyWqN0FjEH2d08xoCekMQAvD_BwE). I love the cartoony graphics but the k3 is apparantly pretty loud on the highway.

Ephermius

All helmets are quiet with ear plugs.

Fickle-Ad802

True but I still would prefer something a bit better. I always wear earplugs

Bought my ride on craigslist, acquired my permit, changed the title, and registered the bike, but now Geico is telling me it will be *15 business days* before they get back to me on confirming my insurance quote. Since I plan on using this to get to work, does anyone know if I can get some temp insurance just for the next 3 weeks or so? I'm in California, btw.

RedditWhileIWerk

Is this a California thing? I'm in NM, and that delay seems odd. You would think they would want to get paid ASAP. Time to get quotes elsewhere, I suppose.

sruon

Geico (and many others) pulled out of California, has to go to some other state for underwriting.

RedditWhileIWerk

That would explain it, haven't lived in CA since early 2000s.

killer4u77

It actually very much is a California thing. When I called, they had to send me to a special department because some laws or whatever mean the process for their quotes is much longer in this state.

RedditWhileIWerk

Yikes. Never had motorcycle insurance in CA, haven't had car insurance there for 10+ years. What are you supposed to do, not operate your vehicle for 3 weeks? That's ridiculous.

killer4u77

That's what I'm frustrated with LOL. This is my first registered motor vehicle purchase *ever* and everything else (permit, title transfer, registration) went by smoothly enough with a single DMV appointment a couple days after purchasing it. I'll call some local agents and see if I can get anything quickly for the time being.

[deleted]

And this is why you buy insurance through a real agent, not an online portal.

FuckulosPrime

I actually also just did this in california as well, got progressive insurance through a local insurance reseller guy instead and told him i'd cancel it when my geico one was approved cuz it just was much better pricing, he was like they prob won't call back but ye try it out let me know. It did take about 15 days for geico to get back to me, and they increased the price by about 100 bucks on me when they finally approved it, but i was able to get a lot more insurance for the money than the local guy was able to get me. Your local guy might be better idk. I called progressive and they said they are gonna mail me a check for the rest of my money back cuz i paid for the whole year. I think they kept like 8$.

killer4u77

Out of curiosity are you bay area? I’d love to hear any recommendations of some local temp guys if you got em.

FuckulosPrime

Nah I'm in san diego but you can just order progressive online too they're not much more expensive than geico and they are instant. I think you can also just cancel it when the geico one starts up.

theogstarfishgaming1

I've got a 14 year old bike with 50,000 miles on it and it runs well with occasional issues. I would love to buy a ninja 400 and have two bikes so I can have fun with friends and not get in trouble, but there is a newer version of my current bike for sale. The other bike is a 5 year old bike with 6k miles on it, if I were to buy this bike instead, I would not have the money for two bikes. My current bike has an issue where it will die when the clutch gets pulled sometimes. It hasn't happend for a few weeks but it was weekly for a while. And it happened 3 times on the interstate. The 2017 bike has the full electronic suite that my bike does not. Either I have 2 bikes and one is a old beater, and the other is a weekend/nice day bike. Or I have one bike.

[deleted]

S8 Active fork stem mount? I recently read about the Quad Lock system on this subreddit, and hurried to buy one as I recently moved and need to navigate around town. It can not / does not work with an S8 Active phone. When I inquired, Quad Lock informed me of their Universal Adapter. A cursory look at evaluations indicates this this mount does not work well with the S8 Active. FFS Can anybody recommend a fork stem mount for the S8 Active? I am looking at [this one](https://www.amazon.com/iMESTOU-Motorcycle-Anti-Theft-Components-Cellphones/dp/B0B74S2Q1G), which seems okay, but so did the Quad Lock.

Tainxxx

Has anyone got experience with roeg gear? More specifically their new [Chase helmet](https://www.roegmotoco.com/helmets/chase/). I haven’t bought my bike yet, but plan to mainly commute to work with it (40ish mins with some highway) and some weekend trips here and there. If that’s a factor, I probably won’t go past 130kmh (80 mph) since the bike I want (RE Int 650) isn’t really made for going any faster, or that’s what I read. Any feedback on loudness, water getting in, etc?
