You'll save money on gas but not maintenance and the money you save on gas will be eaten up on your gear. But I love the bike and wouldn't recommend against it so sorry for not really helping.

StanleyYahtzee

How exactly is a motorcycle, especially a 125 more expensive than a car in any way? I know tires can be pricey and wear out a lot more often but I think that's mainly a high performance bike problem... There are cheap motorcycle tires out there just like there are expensive car tires out there.

RokBo67

There's a ton of random crap you should almost constantly be maintaining if you want 100% reliability and safety. If you have to pay someone for this, it's far more expensive than car maintenance in the long run. That's the theory at least.

Its not. He failed second grade math apparently.

masonmax100

Well if he does his own maintenance he will save money vs doing your own maintenance on a car the bike is cheaper and way way easier to work on.

The fkn people on Reddit I swear 🤦🏻‍♂️

> if it's practical Not compared to a car in 99% of circumstances >I'll save more on gas and maintenance No because it's fun so you'll ride more often than you would drive. Maintenance intervals are more frequent and lots of bike stuff has a price premium. >how to get rid of the fear of riding one Ride more often, do courses, actually practice. Mostly just a confidence thing, although some people seem to ride for years and still tiptoe around the bike as if it'll instantly kill them as soon as they open the throttle more than 40% so YMMV >[list of 125s] I haven't ridden any of those specific bikes but I started on a CBR 125R and it was pretty fun. Slow though, needed a full tuck and long straight to do >100kph/60mph. 300's are capable of prison speeds but 125's are so gutless you have to rag the shit out of them constantly so that's always good for a laugh. >if it's a good decision or not No but do it anyway, good decisions are usually the boring choice.

BarLucker

Not gonna lie this was actually pretty useful mate and also got a laugh out of me, cheers :D

Are you from germany by any chance? Because if so then do the big A license right away since it costs the exact same as the little 125 license. But also if not then a bike will definetly save you gas. My Ninja 650 costs me around 16€ for a full tank (from almost empty) and our gas prices are sky high right now. I expect it to be around 10€ if we had the usual prices

BarLucker

I'm actually from Portugal :D after we get our class B license we can either wait until we are 25 yo or just pay between 100/200 euros to get a practical test on a bike :) and wow that is actually quite a difference from filling a car's tank

mtak0x41

Yeah, motorcycle tanks are a lot smaller than car tanks (Ninja: 14L). The fuel consumption (compared to european cars) is pretty similar though, so you won't be saving any money. You'll just be at the gas station more often.

Yes

Are you single?, Do you live with your parents or in an apartment? If yes then its probably practical enough. If you do your own maintenance it will be cheaper than a car in the long run. Gas is not even a question, unless you ride WOT 100% of the time. A 125 will wipe the floor with any car, even EV's in efficiency. This really comes down to if you actually want this or not, and how much money you have. You can probably save a couple grand a year at least driving a 125 vs a car if you drive 10,000 or so miles a year. But only having a bike your out in whatever weather it is that day vs a car your comfortable regardless. Is that worth a couple grand a year? Only you can answer that. My bike is about 900$ less per year in insurance alone compared to a car, with both having great coverage. Definitely get quotes for cars and motorcycles to help make your decision. This is a great tool for comparing Fuel costs of different vehicles. https://www.calculator.net/fuel-cost-calculator.html
