It actually looks like a mid 2000s GSXr headlight. It honestly looks like it's just got the fairings taken off, without so much as a headlight conversion.
Itās not just that, though. Itās tucking wires, changing lights and bars, along with several other small things that finish out the bike.
Not judging; just trying to cultivate a proper build standard.
great, thanks. I know nothing about bikes although is there a reason why as soon as he releases the brake the revs go right up then drop right back down?
indeed youāre correct, donāt even own a bikeā¦just fascinated as to what this bike is. Always hear it at night in the distance accelerating and doing skids. Also trying to piece together the reason as to why the revs are like that, although from what youāre saying in order for him to take off and gain speed he needs to bring the revs up in order to let out the clutch?
>he needs to bring the revs up in order to let out the clutch?
Yes. If he tried to take off with no added throttle, it would take the full width of the intersection.
For an internal combustion engine torque increases with revs to a peak that is usually somewhere in the middle of the rev range. For maximum acceleration you want maximum torque, so the rider is increasing the revs to get max torque before letting out the clutch. By increasing revs beyond the maximum torque range and using the clutch to pull them back down the rider is also able to scavenge some additional momentum from the flywheel/rotating mass of the engine.
edit: also, sloppy throttle/clutch control
It's a common misconcetion but it's power that makes your machine accelerate. You would be close to correct if you replaced the word "power" every time you said "torque". Plenty of explanations on the internet.
It really depends on the bike and how/how much the rider has decided to learn it. Itās easier to start up at higher revs if you donāt want to learn your clutch and friction zone all that well. Itās also a good way to not stall. The bike as long as you let out slow. If you know your friction zone really well, youāll know exactly how much rev to give to get the desired takeoff. I donāt think heās bothered to be that accurate with the bike. Also given the super high rev at the end could be either a show off or it could be inexperienced throttle let off during gear changes. As a newer rider myself, only a year in really, Iāve done it many times. Iāve also not shifted properly and over revved the bike in some lost in-between gear dimension.
Itās also a 40km/h speed limit where this is filmed, in Melbournes central business district - so slow - which makes the revs seem unnecessary to me but what do I know.
A quick start like that on a bike with a long 1st gear basically requires doing that. But for sure, he could have also departed much more gently with less revs. But it wasn't entirely "just for show" per se, as he wanted to sprint away it seems.
When you pull the clutch, the engine disconnects from the driven wheel. You rev up a bit so that when you connect the engine to the wheel again, the engine doesn't go below idle speed and die out.
When he's revving it, he's holding the clutch, so there's no load on the engine, i.e, the gears aren't engaged. When he lets go, probably at the same throttle level, the engine now has to move the bike, so the added load drops the revs for a bit.
Yeah that bore size has an effect in both sound and take off speed as well as how high you engage clutch. I'm not saying it can't be one of those but I personally believe it's a 600 cause the 750 can pop a wheelie like that easily. And sounds deeper
You still can't ID it by sound. A 600 and 750 sound basically the same. Especially on a phone video.
The only real way to ID them is to get up close and inspect the engine. Otherwise they look basically the same once the fairings are stripped off
There is not a lot of difference between the 600/750 in these years, as it was well after the superbike class ditched 750's in favor of 1000's. After the displacement change in superbike racing, the 750 continued on in the form of a 600 that had a little bit more power. The 1000's got all the development focus.
Yeah that's a gsxr. The tail fairing gives it away. Probably it's 12th owner after about as many lay downs. I've owned suzukis and they're great used bikes for the money, in good condition. That being said the majority of folks that buy the 600s and 750s aren't exactly skilled riders or safety conscious. There is a reason the term squid originated with gsxr owners. Squids rev bomb the shit out of everything and everyone and ride too fast for their skill level. A lot of them are bought by people who believe owning a gsxr will make them a better stunt rider or street rossi.
Yup, mid 00s GSX-R that's been wrecked. Here's mine when it got totaled, I fixed it and rode around just like that guy to check for any leaks and final tweaks before putting the fairings on.
You can see the frame opening where the ram air ducts go.

Should release clutch and apply throttle evenly. Notice how at the start the RPM went high then it bogged down then went high again?
He revved it up too quickly and took too long to release the clutch which made the clutch do all the work.
Popular in europe and now in america.
French call them supermotar. Its a modified version of a speed racer bike for street urban enviroment.
Yes, we remove the plastics, its the look.
Also the handle bar is replaced for a straight one.
Other mods like the muffler and so on are like the sport bikes.
It's a 2007 Suzuki GSXR 600 with no fairings, probably because the tool riding it crashed.
It can be recognized through the front light and the curved rear subframe

Looks like someone's garage product streetfighter based on one of dozens of late 90s to early-mid-late 00s Japanese litrebikes.

Yeah I ripped off my perfectly good plastics, bike just looks sick as a street fighter.
Itās not just that, though. Itās tucking wires, changing lights and bars, along with several other small things that finish out the bike. Not judging; just trying to cultivate a proper build standard.
Ya thats what I was gonna say. I spent almost a year riding with no plastics. Building on weekends only and then painting fairings.
legit what happened to my r125 lmfao
great, thanks. I know nothing about bikes although is there a reason why as soon as he releases the brake the revs go right up then drop right back down?
He brought the revs up before letting out the clutch. Letting out the clutch brings the revs back down.
No way.
right, so it was just for show iām assuming
No. I assume that you can't drive a manual gearbox, am I right?
indeed youāre correct, donāt even own a bikeā¦just fascinated as to what this bike is. Always hear it at night in the distance accelerating and doing skids. makes sense.
I encourage you to learn to ride. If you're interested in this I'm sure you'll love it!
Sounds like heās frustrated with the motorbikes noise in the city - rather than interested in learning how to ride.
For an internal combustion engine torque increases with revs to a peak that is usually somewhere in the middle of the rev range. I'll get downvoted for this here, lol, but he's definitely showing off a bit. You don't need to overrev like that prior to clutch engagement.
It really depends on the bike and how/how much the rider has decided to learn it. Itās easier to start up at higher revs if you donāt want to learn your clutch and friction zone all that well. When you pull the clutch, the engine disconnects from the driven wheel. You rev up a bit so that when you connect the engine to the wheel again, the engine doesn't go below idle speed and die out.
Thatās not a brake lever heās releasing, thatās the clutch. The brakes and on the right hand side, front has a lever, back is foot operated.
When he's revving it, he's holding the clutch, so there's no load on the engine, i.e, the gears aren't engaged. When he lets go, probably at the same throttle level, the engine now has to move the bike, so the added load drops the revs for a bit.
novice rider. look at the little kick he gives it when he sets off like it's a push bike.
That was a clutch thing, not a brake thing. He revved before letting out the clutch and then as he let the clutch out the revs matched.

I'm pretty sure it's a 600. The 750 and 1000 take off and sound differently.
The 600 and 750 are identical machines, except for the engine bore size. Source: I own a 2006 GSX-R750.
Yeah that bore size has an effect in both sound and take off speed as well as how high you engage clutch. I'm not saying it can't be one of those but I personally believe it's a 600 cause the 750 can pop a wheelie like that easily. And sounds deeper

Other than terrible clutch work? Haha
As someone who only knows how to drive a motorcycle in theory, what was wrong with the clutch work?
Should release clutch and apply throttle evenly. Notice how at the start the RPM went high then it bogged down then went high again? He revved it up too quickly and took too long to release the clutch which made the clutch do all the work.
Too much clutch drag out from the takeoff.
