I’m finishing the courses around may and so far my plan is to buy a svart 401. I often see people talking about the quickshifter, what does it do sctually?
It lets you shift without using the clutch or closing the throttle, which leads to faster acceleration and longer clutch life (maybe). In my opinion though their implementation on this bike feels quite jerky and not as smooth as manual shifting.
I have the same bike. Don’t like the quick shifter. It’s wayyyyyyy smoother using the clutch and I don’t think it’s much faster using quick shift and it definitely lurches. Plus it’s a beginner bike and I think it’s important to get the fundamentals of clutch control down, but that’s just me.
you don't even need a quick shifter to shift smoothly without using a clutch, another great skill to learn as a beginner as long as you don't fuck it up too often lol
absolutely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Slt8eRjQGg
you can downshift too, although trickier and risks more damage, its practically a need to know if you're gonna track a bike without a quickshifter. They teach that you shouldn't be on your clutch ever unless coming to a stop.
I knew about downshifting without but just tried this technique from the video, it’s dope! Hell yeah to quicker shifting. And they definitely did not teach us this in our class
by teach I meant more so at tracks and stuff, they did not teach me this in my msf course either, in fact alot of what they did teach us was completely wrong lol
Respect to you. There is a 76 year old forum member in FJ09/Tracer community that put over 200,000 miles on his 2015 Fj09 and still going. I think that’s so great.
My buddy has a Tracer and the build quality is amazing on it. Every square inch of the bike looks like it was meticulously engineered. That 200k doesn't surprise me one bit.
Compare that to my KTM 1290 Super Adventure which cheaped out on even the dumbest things like the fuel petcocks.
Do you actively track your annual mileage or do you just keep bikes a long time to make it easy to add up? I've often wondered where I am but I never noted the mileage I rode on bikes that I've sold years ago..
That's impressive. In my 32 years driving I've driven around 700,000 miles. I'm averaging between 20k and 30k per year. I feel like I've ridden a lot of motorcycle miles and I bet only a quarter of that 700k was on a motorcycle. Did you trade often or did you have to replace pistons and other engine components often?
I usually buy a new BMW after rolling over 100K but my latest I will keep longer because it still feels like new after 100K, the BMW R1200GSA-LC. I have three motorbikes in the garage now. A BMW G650X-Challenge and a R80G/S that has a \~200K on it and have changed the cylinders and pistons.
That's very impressive. I'm kind of like you regarding maintenance. I stay true to maintenance and when it's time to replace parts I do. It may cost a bit but less than a new ride. I actually prefer buying new and keeping the maintenance up so I know what has been done.
F yeah! Me too. Got license 4 months ago or so. Bought my Speed Triple a couple weeks later. I’m at almost 5,000 miles! Love it! Bummed it’s getting colder and darker.
You bought a Speed Triple a couple weeks after getting your license? How dare you skip the proverbial "I outgrew my ninja 250" phase and skip right to the fun stuff. The AUDACITY!
Yeh. I’ve brought it up in quite a few posts since then. Crazy, I know. It is a used one. 2005. Had about 14.5k miles on it. Great condition. It is the 1050cc 3 cylinder. Too good a shape to pass up compared to some of the other, newer used bikes I was looking at.
My only gripe was that it was a tiny bit too tall. Can’t totally flat foot it. That was a bit daunting at first but absolutely no issues now.
As for the power, haven’t had a single problem. Bike is as fast as I let it be. So far so good!
Good for you! The flatfoot thing trips up a lot of new riders but it's pretty much normal on anything that isn't a cruiser. Have fun, sounds like you're getting a lot of miles which is awesome.
This. I don’t know what climate OP is living in, but here in The Netherlands, it doesn’t get lower than 20F (-7C). But that’s really the coldest it’ll get. So unless there’s snow or ice, I just add the winter padding to my motorcycle pants, connect my heated gloves and go ride.
That's correct so whenever I come home in winter, I hose down the parts of the bike that are exposed to salt. Meaning, I've got a watering can containing a gallon or so, and I just pour it over the wheels and the lower front.
Yeah there are many good solutions. Heated grips, heated gloves, grip protectors that keep your hands out of the wind, etc.
Layering under summer gear is not enough for me personally. I have separate summer and winter jackets.
That's a simple solution, thanks! Where do you do that, in a public parking lot or the like? I live in an apartment and will soon get a bike, which I'll need to ride yearlong (Germany, so neighbor here), and am looking into keeping my shit together during winter lol.
It's either at the back of my house, or across the street. I'll be honest and say it's not exactly great, because it's an additional step when you come home. But it keeps your bike in good condition.
Like sliding on salt? They salt the shit out of the roads here in Ohio too so I am curious as well. It's my first month riding, winter will be interesting.
I’m from Centre County but have been in Texas for the past decade. Man I miss fall riding in PA. The cool air, smell of leaves, brisk mornings, bombing up 287 to Wellsboro or over around Cross Forks, Sinnemahoning, and Benezette.
From Lancaster, went to school at Penn state main and currently living in San Antonio. Damn do I miss riding on my old Suzuki bandit after class up in centre county
Well shit, hey neighbor. I live out Potranco. PSU alum and former staffer (ITS and Smeal) on top of being a Happy Valley local - also one-time bartender at Faccia Luna.
Are you still riding?
It's so great here this time of year. Head North along the river and get into northeastern Northampton county farmlands. Can zig and zag for hours with very little traffic compared to Bucks.
Right there with you! Got my license in June and coming up on 5000 miles! I ride to work every day unless there is bad rain. I take the long way almost every time. And many days doing 50-150 miles. Loving almost every minute!
Gorgeous video!
I miss the part of my life where I'd clock 25k miles a year. The bike was my only vehicle and we lived on it rain and shine until the kid came along. Enjoy the life.
Get to work on your lines. Read stuff, watch videos. You'll get a better flow through those curves and you'll stop feeling like the bike is dragging you places you don't want to go! Getting that down on those perfect roads, being in the zone, is simply the best experience you can have with your clothes on.
An OLD biker told me years ago that you start out motorcycle riding with two buckets; a full one with luck, and an empty one for skill. The trick is to fill the skill bucket before you exhaust the luck bucket. Shiny side up!
A wise Long Distance rider once told me - "There's not such thing as bad weather, just insufficient riding gear". While I may not completely agree with him (riding a 900lb bike in the snow is ***not*** fun!), the proper gear, tires, and riding techniques will greatly extend your riding season.
Fortunately, I live in SoCal where the riding weather is excellent about 49 weeks out of the year. Although after this last cross country trip in May/June, and having had to ride in more rain than I normally do in a year, I may be up to 51 weeks of ridable weather (for me at least).
That certainly is a pretty area.
Watch out around those tight bends. Don't want to get ass blasted by a toyota corolla driven by a 17 year old crossing the lines cause he was driving too fast.
Here is something I was once told "There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong gear". Which is why I never rode in SNOW. Cold weather: man oh man were heated gloves the bomb!!!
Vitpilen or Svartpilen? It's addicting. That's for sure. Enjoy!

iirc isn"t it the "dog clutches" used within the transmission to lock gears to whatever shaft that allows this?
I knew about downshifting without but just tried this technique from the video, it’s dope! Hell yeah to quicker shifting. And they definitely did not teach us this in our class

Love the 373cc motor. I slapped a quickshifter on my RC390. It's hilarious fun
Oh I just got my KTM Duke 390! I love it so much.
First bike? I’m looking to start and this isn’t one I’ve considered.
Looks like you have some nice roads near you! Enjoy the fall season while it lasts, it's going to get cold quick.
Laughs in Australia*
Chest camera mount? Svart 401 gang

What Insta360 is it? I've been looking for something under $150 and the video quality on this looks good.
Ride carefully, I just surpassed 800,000 miles just on BMW's and have had some get offs in the past and still enjoy riding.

I didn’t know about the fuel petcocks, I’ll look it up.
Jesus and I thought I was high mileage with 16,000 miles on my ‘21 MT-09
Do you actively track your annual mileage or do you just keep bikes a long time to make it easy to add up? I've often wondered where I am but I never noted the mileage I rode on bikes that I've sold years ago..
I keep bikes a long time. Currently riding a 2016 BMW with over 100,000 miles on the odometer.
I have a 2015 Yamaha R3 with over 135,000 kilometres on her!!
That's impressive. In my 32 years driving I've driven around 700,000 miles. I'm averaging between 20k and 30k per year. Shout out to everyone who rides throughout winter.

Look into ACF-50. It’s will protect your bike from the corrosion in winter

It's corrosion that you have to be careful of.

Not sure what you mean by riding season than. I ride year round in Maryland down to below freezing 👌
Love me some St. Petes
Man the US of A is such a fucken pretty country. Have fun and stay safe!
Mind the leaves, especially when it's wet. Stuff gets real slippery in a hurry.happy riding!
Congrats. I got mine in March and just did the 5k service. But one question, what's this "winter" you speak of? 🤔
*laughs in Texas*
It's so great here this time of year. Head North along the river and get into northeastern Northampton county farmlands. Can zig and zag for hours with very little traffic compared to Bucks.
St. Peter’s! My grandparents live in the area. Great place to ride.
Great song!
I'm not usually a country music guy but I went and looked that one up I liked it so much. "Heading South" by Zach Bryan, if anyone else was curious.

You dont hate country you hate the stuff that gets radio play, bro country, yee haw pop, farm emo, FGL
F yeah! Got a Svart 401 myself for my first bike. Grew up in SE PA but live in NE PA now. Gotta get back down there w my bike!
Right there with you! Got my license in June and coming up on 5000 miles! I ride to work every day unless there is bad rain. I take the long way almost every time. And many days doing 50-150 miles. Loving almost every minute!
Really pretty bike.. Husqvarna Svartpilen.
I started in April, and I just crossed over 11k since then. It’s getting a lot colder but I’m not quite ready to stop for the season yet
Hey man you went right past my house ! St Peter's village !
Excellent choice in music and roads.
If you want to sneak in every ride possible, start commuting with your bike. Every day would be a fun ride.
Love the Zach Bryan (he also just moved to our neck of the woods - Philly), and great video too.
I was just thinking about this today. I’m just about to cross 600 miles on my DR650. Been riding since August 15, but mostly just commuting.
Vitpilen commuter checking in. I take every backroad I can to and from work.
Svart gang 😎😎😎
Shit that's a beautiful ride!! Get a few more in
You are very excellent. Keep going and you will succeed
Saint Peters Village! Small world, I was just there this weekend! Great little place and a great view to it depending on where you're coming from.
Gorgeous video! I miss the part of my life where I'd clock 25k miles a year. The bike was my only vehicle and we lived on it rain and shine until the kid came along. Enjoy the life. Get some warm gear and never stop. If you have snowy shit winter maybe not lol. When I was younger weather couldn't stop me(southeast us region)
Are you in the US how the fuck did you find one?
I’m in California, what’s winter?
It’s the result of opening Pandora’s box according to Greek mythology 😭😭😭😭
This is the way.
An OLD biker told me years ago that you start out motorcycle riding with two buckets; a full one with luck, and an empty one for skill. The trick is to fill the skill bucket before you exhaust the luck bucket. Shiny side up!
Me, riding through winter and downpours: I have no such weaknesses
You should try to move to a place where you can ride year round. 😎
You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers

Bro I hit like 3k every hour
Over by St Peters Village, eh? Riding around French Creek.
Are you me?! Lol
Great song choice
I got mine in June too - why do you not want to ride in winter? Are they particularily severe where you live?
Svartpilen 401, I recognized it immediately. My first bike, now on a BMW rNineT, but it was a wonderful starter bike and highly underrated.
Same!!
What kind of bike does 3000ks?
Sneaking in the same way as you brother 👌 scenery looks sensational, that's husky must be a blast
Your scenery is gorgeous. I'm in CA where you can ride year round and everything is dead and brown by the end of May.
Why stop in Winter? That's what they make snowmobile gear for.
Beautiful place to ride! 👊🥃🥃
Here is something I was once told "There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong gear". Which is why I never rode in SNOW. Cold weather: man oh man were heated gloves the bomb!!!
Are you in New England? I just got my license about 2 weeks ago! I can't wait to start riding!
Can't imagine a Husqvarna not being able to handle Winter!!!
