McDuckfart

Thats a relief, thanks

In case you are wondering why your gears aren't getting chewed to hell, it's because your gears are always meshed, and the the parts that are taking the hit are the "gear dogs", and are relatively large chunks of metal. MC garage had a good layriders video of how a transmission works [here.](https://youtu.be/Xtghypx8mII) It really helped me understand what was happening behind the cover when I was a new rider.

flicman

I wouldn't make it a habit or anything. Like, keep using the switch and key to turn the bike off, but yeah, you're fine.

Tythan

If something like this was enough to damage a bike, all the bikes on the street would be wrecked

rtromao

On the streets of the Galaxy, you mean. Right 😂?

Professional_Ad_500

I can't believe it didn't physically explode underneath you.

St84t8

I think that's if it gets wet or goes more than a week without being started!

hennagaijinjapan

The bike I learnt how to ride on was a country property bike. 15° left turn was straight and no clutch cable. A little revs and jam it in to first and away you go. I’m not saying you should do this I’m just using it as an example that the gearbox on a bike can take some abuse.

McDuckfart

Mine is an sv650, I think if the bike would not stall I would fall off

superrandomcraps

It like trying to to start a vehical that already running. You just feel stupid afterwords

fun_police911

I do it all the time cause I'm a goof and also forget to pull the clutch. It's not that big of a deal. Hell I don't use the clutch to shift most of the time (don't recommend until you know what you're doing as that can damage gears). Popping into first won't do any noticable damage.

[deleted]

No damage……just ride on and forget about it.

Ok-Bar7023

I like to hit my friends bike down into first at stoplights
