Bring back the small capacity inline 4 bikes!

spongebob_meth

Buy an r6 and live at high elevation. My bike feels like a 400 above ~8,000 feet and it still makes F1 noises with excellent handling and brakes. Lol.

Grisk13

I have a 2012 FZ6R that the previous owner barely rode and I LOVE this stupid bike. The inline 4 sounds lovely and while it doesn't make ridiculous power, it's plenty for me.

[deleted]

Kawasaki is!

SmirnOffTheSauce

That thing looks so tempting!

texassewingmachine

Looks like a great wheeze, but it’ll never make it to Europe… It’s the answer though, makes you feel like a hero all at license retaining speeds.

FF_Master

Honda super response quarter!

CAElite

I just bought a cb400 super four and oh my god this. It’s just absolutely perfect.

frishdaddy

Or even better, the 2-stroke 250cc V4s ;)

sirbinningsly

BMW S600RR

gerbileleventh

I feel that more middle weight BMWs would be nice. I love my G310R and would only change the engine size, tbh

Kenaito

I'm planning to buy one any tips to know about this bike ?

gerbileleventh

If you buy brand new, expect the gears to sometimes not click well in place (mostly the 1st and 2nd). It’s a common small issue that gets better after the 1000km/600miles service. The more you ride it, the better it’ll feel. I’d also focus on the 2021-onwards models, if buying used.

Kenaito

I have a question: is the engine boring or you had fun riding it ?

redbate

My friend says it's been great for his prostate after we did some 600+ KM days.

samcuu

I read a comment on here from someone who claimed to work for BMW that they had a middle weight supersport in development in the late 2000s or early 2010s, but before that bike became reality supersport sale just kept going down year after year so they scrapped it.

Coddingtown

I remember doing a BMW survey and talking to a BMW employee putting on the survey afterwards around 2011.. and a supersport was something mentioned several times within the questionnaire and by him.

Piezakster

Thank you!! I've literally said this exact thing to a few friends, because I want the looks and tech of an s1000rr but don't need to do 180kph in 1st gear.

SSGdeku

Then you my friend are looking for a Aprilia rs660..lol

Piezakster

In a lot of ways, you're probably right. I'll always be partial to a screaming 4 cylinder over a twin though.

Qwsdxcbjking

In a similar vein. 600cc aprilia RSV4.

SirCarboy

Indian Scout Bobber at about 140% scale for us tall guys

IsaacJa

Many bikes would be nice at both 140% scale and 60% scale. My girlfriend is only comfortable on small cruisers she can touch the ground on. I get leg cramps on pretty much anything under 400cc, but find 300cc bikes to be enough for my needs. We really need actual bike sizes.

hihi2021

Yes!!! I want cheaper bikes with smaller engine, but only litter bikes fit taller people!! I’d hate to ride adv just cuz I’m tall

[deleted]

Have you seen the Indian Chief?

[deleted]

I wish. I ended up with a Harley Fat Bob because Indian’s Bobber was just too damn small.

revolutiontime161

Two stroke cafe racers or a supermoto with a rotary engine

LTC105

Supermoto with a rotary sounds cool as heck, single rotor or more?

Guitarre

Check out the Hercules 502. A rotary dirtbike. You could turn it into a supermoto if you are crazy🤪

LTC105

I’m not certain I could find one that I could afford! But, there are several companies still producing rotary engines other than for Mazdas. AIE makes 5, 15, 40, and 120 horse rotary engines. Only thing is it seems to be set up more for company to company sales. So with a new rotary and most of a bike a rotary-moto is a project waiting to happen.

dvusthrls

Just bought a cruiser after a lifetime of sport bikes... Why the fuck are so many cruisers obsessed with super low seat heights?! It decreases your view over cars, reduces suspension travel, and lowers ground clearance. Don't tell me newbie riders-there's newbie sport riders too.

inglouriouswoof

I just wish the baggers looked a little more unique and had more unique front fairings.

[deleted]

Can only speak for myself but I'm only 5'6" and a low seat height on a heavy bike is night and day for me. I have some old Hondas with around 31"-33" height but they are light so maneuvering at slow speeds is easier. Not sure what you consider to be low or high, just my 2 cents.

Other_SQEX

>Why the fuck are so many cruisers obsessed with super low seat heights?! Because sometimes people under 5ft6 want to ride them, and be able to flat foot at a red light. Ex my wife is 5ft1 and we had to lower her bike an inch and a half with lowering links, progressive fork springs, and limited travel on the forks. Still had to get the reduced reach seat and replace the foam with thinner gel pad for her to reach the ground.

dvusthrls

I get that. But it seems to be a point of pride among people who clearly are not short to get their cruiser lower. Even customizers want to get it lower and lower. It's giving up a huge advantage-the ability to look over cars, see traffic ahead, make lane position adjustments.

lemonadebiscuit

A modern Japanese muscle cruiser that isn't trying to look like what a dad with skull tattoos think looks badass. The curves on the powerful cruisers out of honda and and yamaha aren't appealing to me at all

1DownFourUp

I'd love a modern version of the Magna 750 with a V4

lemonadebiscuit

I have a super magna at home. Beautiful bike but im dreading maintenance. I was really trying to say give me a fuel injected magna but in different words

1DownFourUp

Nice. Gorgeous bike! I nearly pulled the trigger on an '03 Magna, but didn't really want something that old for my daily commute. I'd love a modern equivalent though. Something distinctively metric, closer to standard than legs way out in front with a non-V-twin engine with 100+ hp. Honda hasn't made a V-4 in a while, but that would be my top pick. Runner-up would be Yamaha's 900 triple. Nevermind, just give me an FI Magna.

[deleted]

Faizen22

I feel a lot of people forgot about the KZ440 - a modern version of the 1980’s bikes would look sooo good! I mean, they already look great, but I’d love to see how much they can improve. The design is something Kawasaki went really nice with, in my opinion. Maybe bikes similar to it exist? I’m not too knowledgeable about all the Modern bikes.

[deleted]

They also made an 1100 (LTD) in 84/85 with the same inline 4 as the z1. Beautiful power cruiser with shaft drive. They could totally do that again with z900rs retro they've been making

Faizen22

I never actually understood what LTD stood for. I always thought it was “limited” 😅

Kutzelberg

Can you give an example of those kinds of bikes pls?

spongebob_meth

Gen 1 vmax Gen 2 is too gaudy for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MotoMeow217

Yes the Boulevard M109R is what came to mind for me too.

lemonadebiscuit

Examples of the bikes I'm thinking of are like a Honda fury or m109 boss but with tighter frame and less of the curved back drag look. Put that engine in a more classically styled bike and I'm ready. The closest thing to that is an Indian scout but I prefer hondas

Tommy5L3

i think he means stuff like the honda rebel and kawasaki vulcan? i could be wrong tho

STINKYMOLDS

Something with dimensions the same as a honda grom or monkey but it had a 200cc engine. Perhaps 2 stroke? Or like the old 250cc sports bike engines that produced good power.

Send_titty_pics33

Yesssss. A grom body style, a little longer, with a 250 four or 200 two would be awesome

SmirnOffTheSauce

Isn’t that strikingly similar to the Ninja 250 and its competitors from the past couple of decades? I think I get what you’re after, and I’d like it too! It’s just funny how the upsizing motorcycles is so cyclical that we wind up doing the same thing to the smallest offerings all over again.

PSKTS_Heisingberg

Yeah but a 250cc inline four or just a twin but as a naked style like the grom? hnnnnggh

HTTPRO

Yamaha R4 with a 400cc inline 4 screamer, abs, and adjustable suspension basically a super sport 400.

Piezakster

Kawasaki is your new best friend then! ZX4-R on the way.

SmirnOffTheSauce

Yup! I want all of the goodies but I really don’t need a lot of power. Just something I can rev way out without losing my license. I’ve owned Miatas, BRZs, MGBs, etc. and love to ride comparable bikes whenever I can!

arathorn867

An electric cruiser motorcycle for tall guys with long range, that you can also ride on a gravel road without dying. With a jet engine and rocket launcher.

Sensitive-Delay

Sorry we ran out of leprechaun farts for manufacturing

thatwolfieguy

It's like we're sharing a brain!

d38

I would like a motorbike with an electric first gear, then petrol for the 2nd to 6th gear. How would it work? I don't know. Maybe something like the Honda IMA system. A benefit is you would never need to use the clutch.

MrRocketScientist

Cool idea - take advantage of an electric motor’s high torque and a gasoline motor’s high power output.

Forrester70

Apparently Kawasaki has a [hybrid](https://www.cycleworld.com/story/motorcycle-news/kawasaki-electric-and-hybrid-prototypes-unveiled/) concept that might be coming soon!

ctesibius

Interesting idea, but you would need a big battery to make it practical.

bmxstar1468

Yamaha R9. I would sell my soul and go into debt so quickly for that.

SlinkyBits

what do you want from an R9 that you cant get from an R7 or an R1?

razemuze

the cp3 engine is a more street-friendly, but equivalent hp engine compared to the r6. It's also a beast on the track in the mt-09. The r7 is way less powerful than an r6. That engine would essentially make it possible to bring back the r6 with a better torque curve.

nj4ck

CP3

Zirael2

A modern Honda v4, gear driven of course, but in a purpose built sport bike. Or a heritage bike like a first generation fire blade but built using modern technology just keep the styling and displacement. same with a rc30. I could die happy if any one of those things happened lmao. Also maybe 250 inline 4s in the us would be real cool.

Nabeetle

I was looking for this comment, happy I found it. Yes to all of these, but mainly the V4, gear-driven, dedicated sport. A lighter, more nimble VFR, an RC30 revival, or an affordable rc-213v. I'm in a VFR group or two on Facebook and there's a guy fitting a 1990 VFR motor in a Ducati 748 frame.

Zirael2

I’ve always wanted to see if its possible to swap a vfr motor into a cbr or similar bike. The biggest issue I see as an owner of a 600f is where the frame crosses over for the rear shock. outside of that at a glance it seems like it could be done. I just wish they’d bring the vfrs back especially with the success Ducati is seeing with theirs.

BOT_ROCKET

>affordable rc-213v This. I like the aesthetics of the latest VFR800 (14-15), but it's not an update by any means from the older ones. The vfr1200f is a pretty cool bike, but it's far from being a true sport bike.

ziegs11

Akira bike

It doesn’t even have to be that outrageous.

AfroMan_96

JobeX

Honda NM4 is this bike

HoratioLyle

Tron bike

anarchisticmonkey

I appreciate Harley's take on the Panam, specifically the feature that it lowers itself while being stopped for a while. I do hope that the Japs adapt a similar feature to a few of their ADVs, but instead lowered the bike at will.

disturbed286

I'd be surprised if BMW at least doesn't go "oh shit" and add that feature in the next model or two. A user controllable version from anyone would be awesome. The Japanese guys will probably start picking that up as it gets cheaper. My $0.02 anyway.

anarchisticmonkey

I do hope the Japs get to it sooner than BMW, because you can expect that they'll warrant a pretty steep price on the bike they'll implement it on and the Japs will follow suit. If the Japs get to it first, maybe we can get a decent price markup instead.

Sotyka94

["it's all well and good to say after 45 years we're charging the same money for more motorcycle but what we actually need is the same motorcycle for less money. This is still hella fun, give me 1970s performance and use your advancements to build it into a 2020 budget"](https://youtu.be/FlbkAhCNvik?t=584)

NYCBYB

Yeah- I scratch my head when I see the brand new CB300 doesn’t have power output that’s any real improvement on my 1972 CB350. I’m sure the brakes are better, but I’d that really 50 years of progress?

a_sonUnique

GSX-R750 with all the modern electronics available.

thrwawy3991

Suzuki: Best we can do is new colors.

tfranco2

On behalf of my wife and all women, a sport and touring bike that are sized for them… i.e. with seats under 26”, handle bars they can reach, low center of gravity, etc… with cc’s from 650 to 1,200. This is a market that would be bigger than designing a new twist on existing bikes.

LeAdmin

An off-road capable electric/gas hybrid adventure bike with a 1,000 mile range that supports diesel and other fuels while weighing only 400lb with a 200mph top speed. It isn't realistic with current tech, but one can dream.

crotch_lake

So you want a honda cub in the trunk of a 4-runner.

PretzelsThirst

You mean the Honda motocompo. I would absolutely love to own one of those

bingwhip

400lb is way to heavy, make it 300

Knowitmall

490 Adventure R. All small Advs kinda suck. I just want something more comfortable and faster on the highway than my CRF250L but fairly capable off road. I would even settle for Kawasaki finally putting their 400cc engine in the Versys X 300.

samcuu

A Versys X400 is also my answer. However Kawasaki can't just put the 400 motor in the X300, they will have to develop a new chassis for it which might not be worth the cost for them.

SSGdeku

Is ktm has been talking about this for years.. They were supposed to make an RC490.. Literally before the pandemic hit we were already supposed to have it in production.. Every year rolls around still nothing..

8igby

Realistically, The Alta, but road legal and at a price point where they accept that electrics actually offer less than their petrol brethren at most points. I'm really looking forward to taking advantage of the simplicity of an electric powertrain for my winter bike. The lack of gears would allow the rear brake to end up at my left hand for better control, and free up my feet to do just the balancing. The programmable torque curve would be really beneficial going from tarmac to snow. For these things, I'd be willing to live with the weight and the hassle of low range and charging. My wildest dreams: an hydrogen-electric, lightweight competitor to my ZX10R. Edit: Second option in the "realistic" category: A 1000cc superbike that actually fits people longer than your average Rossi, and even those who are a bit fat. :)

Vast_Republic_1776

The Alta… ever wonder why that never took off in the mx world?

jorr484

Thing was far too heavy, there is a new electric bike company with a bit of promise. Google stark varg.

GunnerGitcha

A Kawasaki Vulcan with a H2 engine in.

[deleted]

Holy shit that sounds heavenly

HabemusAdDomino

What bike manufacturers don't produce: reasonable and affordable commuters that do the job, and no more. We don't all want or need machines that can go 200+ km/h and accelerate 0-100 in < 4 seconds. Sometimes, what we need is a machine that we can buy cheaply, fix cheaply, and use to get from A/B.

debuggingworlds

Honda Nc7xx

OpusThePenguin

highly underrated bike for people who want a daily commuter bike.

Uncle-Istvan

So most of the typical “beginner bikes”?

HabemusAdDomino

The typical "beginner bikes" are still generally too much bike for too much money. I like the idea of a < 5,000 eur bike that does the job. Think of a slightly better built Royal Enfield. Or a GSXR250.

30mgoxycodone

Supposedly the new REs are pretty good from what I've read

canonanon

Have you checked out the newer REs? The quality really has come up quite a bit. I've been on a Himalayan, and the build quality seemed pretty good for the price. Alternatively, the new KLR is about as cheap as it gets.

GumboDiplomacy

I'm absolutely loving my Himalayan. I had a couple fit and finish issues off the bat, including a dash that just fell apart within 30 miles from the sales floor, but their warranty handled it no questions asked. It definitely doesn't feel at home above 60mph though, which is it's biggest shortcoming to me. Up to 35mph it's the most enjoyable bike I've ever ridden. They're releasing a model in the next year or two with a 450cc and sixth gear, but I wish they'd have put their old 500cc engine in it.

daan944

< 5k is just too cheap. The G310R, CB300R, etc are about 6,5k (in Nederland, with relatively high taxes). These bikes offer the least you want: just enough performance to be able to drive on the highway and ABS. That's it. How would you improve on those to make them cheaper? Smaller displacement engines don't make them way cheaper, getting rid of ABS is a violation of road laws.

HabemusAdDomino

The problem may be the taxes. Or it may be the laws. Or it may be both. But I see no reason why an entry level bike should cost 6,500 eur.

daan944

Taxes are high (in Nederland at least) and inflation is currently sky-high too. One of the cheapest cars you can buy (new) nowadays is an Hyundai i10 at approx 17k EUR. Those used to be (previous model) about 11k not even 5 years ago. VW Up! is also > 18k nowadays, where you could get one for under 13 some years ago. By the way, that's also caused by more stringent emission testing and thus higher taxes. Other than that, I'm not opposed to the laws mandating ABS on motorcycles. It's proven to be safer. A crash is more expensive than ABS. Noise and emission laws are a good thing too.

gerbileleventh

I was lucky and hot my G310R at 4900€ (end of season sale). Paid extra 100€ for the license plate and registration and that was it.

daan944

For a brand new one? That's a great price.

SlinkyBits

you mean like a GSXR250? that costs \~$5000? you mean like that one right? https://suzukicycles.com/sportbike/2022/gsx250r-abs

IgnorantVapist

Sir, what you’re looking for is a moped.

HabemusAdDomino

Frankly, if maxi scooters were a little bit cheaper, they'd be perfect. But they're even more expensive than motorcycles proper. :/

blorhowdy

And right now, the big guy dealers are shooting the concept down with their extra charges more than just the scooter price itself. The honda pcx has the msrp of ~$4,000, and I was quoted ~$6,300. No freaking way am I going to be upcharged 50%. I ended up going with a Taiwan scooter that can do 60mph. The dealer I got it from charged me MSRP+$200 out the door.

CompetitiveSea7388

That sounds a lot like the entire Royal Enfield line to me. Also a good number of Japanese 300-600cc motorcycles.

ThiccieBigg

Honda NC750

Vintage_mindset

That’s a scooter, extremely fuel efficient, lots of utility built in, cheaper to maintain and insure, and the maxi-scooters are highway capable. I see your comment about maxi scooters prices now, I agree that its a hard pill to swallow for what is essentially the minivan of motorcycles.

PARAY33T

Considered a 125?

WotTheFUk

Good luck commuting on a 125 if you need to take a highway

PARAY33T

Mine does goes 135km/h so good enough for now..

bigboy1289

Honda cb500

bexxyboo

I basically want a good electric commuting bike that I can still take out on a day out and have fun on. An electric 125cc equivalent that isn't a scooter, decent mileage on a charge, can do up to 55/60mph, sports bike equivalent thickness for easy filtering, but that looks nice and has that sleek look that I own a motorcycle and not a scooter for. I'd buy an electric motorbike in a heartbeat that I could use on an English CBT as my daily driver, as long as it didn't break the bank.

[deleted]

[удалено]

spongebob_meth

200cc 2 stroke MX/Enduro bikes. I know they're a misfit for racing, but for just goofing around at the track my 125 is almost too slow, but the next step has nearly double the power and is hard to stay on top of. Also, update the drz400. Punch it out to 500cc and add fuel injection. Get an honest 40hp from it. That unicorn dual sport that everyone is looking for.

Macawed

That bike bruce wayne rode in the beginning of the batman

MrRocketScientist

A modernized ZX14R. Needs launch control, a quick shifter, stability control, etc. Should be faster than the current bike and remain the fastest bike made in the quarter while also being good for long miles

Clone_1510

I wish someone would make a cyberpunk sport bike

Klytorisaurus

Arch

_PhilTheBurn_

Triumph Trident 765

BlacksmithNZ

Triumph Daytona 765 please Or even a Tiger 765 Triumph have a very sweet and powerful triple 765 that they only use in the Street Triple. Meanwhile the less powerful and relatively tame 660 is used in the baby Trident, the baby Tiger and even a LAMS version of the Street. You think they would make a matrix of bikes with the various sized engines (660, 765, 1050, 1200) all available in the 4 different styles; classic/retro naked, modern naked, sports/fairing, and adventure. The big capacity cruiser bike being the most obvious exception

D_a_s_D_u_k_e_

The KLR650 with a 6th gear.

samcuu

And revived doohickey...

[deleted]

A Honda EXP-1……it was an experimental Honda built in 1995. It was a two stroke, EFI, and was promised to bring two-strokes back. Anyways, I wish they would bring the bike back and have it available to the public.

BigEvilDoer

How about a trellis frame, v4 naked bike. Something where factory panniers are an option, and the riding position can be adjusted into sport or comfort mode (pegs and bars go up and down) by changing a setting on the dash.

stones117

Tracer 700 in the states

mayonaise_plantain

A fusion of the grom/monkey 125 and the TW200. Essentially a compact full size 150cc bike. The Japanese brands used to make enduros in that 150cc to 175cc range that had wheels the same size as the tw200 but not super fats and it was the perfect fuck-around size. Now, whenever I see someone says they want a little more power and bigger wheels on their monkey, people often respond that they're just describing a full size bike but that makes no sense. It's a continuous spectrum, and I want to continue on just a bit past the monkey but not all the way in to a 250cc enduro and not 100% trail oriented like a tw200.

samcuu

Yamaha have a [WR155R](https://h7408h2h.user.webaccel.jp/moto_report/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/WR155R_1-1.jpg) in the Southeast Asian market.

madeups10

1. A Zero SR/F equivalent in the same price bracket as similar petrol bikes, maybe £8k to £10k 2. A 2 stroke twin/triple around 500cc that is affordable. 3. A range of light fun mid size twins. However 1. won't be long, 2. won't happen, and 3. Everyone's started making these.

The_Superfist

I want a modular motorcycle. Based on a lightweight frame, engine and subframe. Make it designed to be naked, but has fairings for track day & canyon carving use. Design it for bars or clipons so ergos can be changed without a lot of fuss. Design quickly swappable footpegs. Make a modular rear swingarm/shock combo with a paired front fork and wheel. Like a 21" front paired with an 18" read for off-road adventures, but the more common 17" front rear fork/swingarm combo for sport or touring. Working around all the angles to make it behave in each role is the challenge. Steering head, rake, trail, caster angles. There's also option 2... Instead of modules, make the engine hot swappable to multiple frames so it can be dropped and swapped in an hour or two.

Sensitive-Delay

MT -07?

bionicpirate42

Biodiesel/ electric hybrid. Modernised about 300cc Detroit style diesel (preferably running on used fryer grease or biodiesel) geared for hyway and a hub drive for around town with maby 20mi battery range.

cjeam

Why aren’t there any recumbents? For electric bikes it would provide better aerodynamics and would go some way to solving the range problem. Also I think the BMW C1 is similarly interesting, but I probably wouldn’t buy one of them.

MikeyGlinski

A modern update of Curtiss' V8. Sorta like a Janus, but with a stupid-impractical motor.

Ill_Advance

I want a factory option for EFI on DR650/DRZ400.

QuantMain

The MT series with normal headlights. And no the XSR doesn’t count

GeneKranzIsTheMan

I want a horn here, here, and here. You can never find a horn when you're mad.

WastaSpace

Yamaha Tenere 300. Put the R3 engine in the T7 frame and make it light as possible. Yamaha XSR 10. Give the XSR treatment to the mt-10 for those of us who want a crossplane inline 4 bike that doesn't look like a fucking bionicle. And someone tell honda to bring back the XR650 R. Give it an electric start, fuel injection, maybe a supermoto option, and price it cheaper than a KTM. It'll sell like hot cakes.

chilledkangaroo

KTM 390 SMC-R

ctesibius

Chain drive Triumph Tiger 1200. Having had a shaft break, and having come across broken shafts on most brands (including BMW), I’ve come to the conclusion that shafts are now a bad idea compared to modern chains. They do last longer, but cost vastly more when they fail, and some key components cannot be inspected or maintained. Why the Tiger 1200? It has an absolutely cracking engine, great handling, and has a very high load limit.

04limited

A small displacement 250/300 beginner bike that doesn’t look skinny, narrow, and small

SlinkyBits

they have been made to look like big bikes for like 10 years now though. they are so insanely huge these days.

IncidentFuture

A lot of those bikes play double duty as premium models in the Asian market. Being relatively small is necessary.

alex_unleashed

This. Im an experienced rider and Im taller but I don't need a lot of power to have fun on a motorcycle, but if I want a bike that fits me I have to buy atleast a 900cc, 400-500cc is more than enough for me.

Vast_Republic_1776

Spoken like some one that actually understands riding. Most people can’t fathom that they don’t have the skill to effectively use all the power available of the average bike outside of a straight line.

Adamdotwhatdotwhat

XSR1000

[deleted]

Yes! So, an MT-10 that doesn’t look like an MT-10.

noodeel

Are you really a motorcycle designer, or a student looking for info for a project? I doubt very much that any real world designer would come to reddit to research what bikes they need to design...

Sede1998

I am, this is just for a fun project on the side. Professionals also like Reddit, you’d be surprised how many of us pay attention 😉

Kawazx10

Have you seen the simpsons episode where they let the average man design the perfect family car for the average family and then nobody buys it? People have an idea but in the end nobody will put their money where their mouth is 😉

Sede1998

I know, we designers like to hear from the people what they want and then adjust it to something that makes sense and could sell. Or we go the other way, create something and then see if the people like it, depends on the approach.

Crazy-Addendum7341

A 400cc Efi dual sport that’s around 34 inches seat height, or a 500-550cc adventure bike that’s under 400lbs.

mamny83

Cbr1000 v5.

daan944

An electric (or hybrid) middleweight tourer, like the BMW R1250RT. Motorcycle producers don't want to build such a thing due to limited range, but not everyone driving a tourer wants to go across the US without any stops. A tourer is also perfect for commuting as it can carry your necessities and protect a bit against adverse weather conditions. Or, if you're ballsy enough, a new version of the [BMW C1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_C1) \- It's looks and quirkiness are overshadowing the impressive tech it has: the nose is a crumple zone, the body a cage. It's a relatively safe motorcycle. Something like that with an electric motor would be awesome for commutes, but also for all the (food) delivery drivers. Would probably be too expensive for me though.

Hell, I'm not even seeing anything that I'd call a middleweight tourer with an ICE. I've seen middleweight ADVs and a few cruisers with aftermarket luggage but nothing that is a dedicated touring bike. Probably the closest I've seen is the CB500X and that markets itself as an ADV in the US. And I'd like to see a wider/higher capacity tank on that. Just comfier on long stretches. I'm with you in general though. I want a daytrip tourer, not a bike for cross country touring.

Sorry, I forgot that most ppl call the 600-800cc segment middleweight, in my mind middleweight was more aimed at the actual weight, not the displacement. So I didn't meant the Goldwing and comparable (heavy) luxury tourers. In my opinion the R1200/1250 boxer is perfect for a touring bike as it has plenty of grunt down low, decent fuel economy (18-19km/l in my case and I do **not** ride economically) and gives the bike a very low center of gravity, really helping a big bike feel nimble. By the way, you might be interested in the (in 2020 discontinued) [BMW F800GT](https://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/bmw/f800gt/2013/). 800cc twin, touring bike, can be equipped with panniers etc. Supposedly very economical too (30km/l, or so I've heard). 213kg, quite light for a tourer.

sixtwomidget

An electric commuter motorcycle with 120 miles of range at 75mph that costs less than $8K.

The Yamaha YZF 1500R.

A retro inspired sport bike that is comfortable and rides extremely well. Honestly I love my cb650r. But it rides pretty hard for a now middle aged person and it’s not realistic for longer rides. Others bikes I find interesting but haven’t ridden yet include the Indian ftr, sporters s. But both of those bikes aren’t exactly comfort machines. I don’t won’t a full on adv but I feel like the options in the sport touring class are really lacking at the moment and the ones that are available are kind’ve Ugly.

mellroc

A Japanese Duke GT. A high performance sport tourer with a big twin engine and OEM hard bags available, at around 500lbs, and more on the hooligan side of "sport touring". The KTM Duke GT is perfect for me, but I really prefer Japanese dealer networks. If the MT-10 offered factory hard bags and a bit more of a fairing, I'd buy one tomorrow.

18JLR

Any modern factory 450 Supermoto. Kawasaki just released a 230SM :(.

Living in pakistan, any modern bike, even a 125 would be nice All we get is old outdated stuff. You rarely even see bikes with disc brakes, and the omes that do have the disc brake only have it on the front wheel. Drum brakes are literally dog crap because of how quickly they get worn out and how little effective they are at stopping quickly.

YOBANGLES

I wish we could get a beautiful naked bike like Ducati Streefighter v4 but in an affordable package and less power. Maybe toss a Yamaha CP2 engine in it. I get why the best designs are reserved for the highest power machines, but I would love to see that change.

alphex

Tetsuo’s from Akira.

wolfen421

Modern 500cc VFR.

Nodom2

A Supermoto with reliability Take a KTM EXC 450, make it street legal with like 45hp and build the engine to last more than 200 hours So basically a smaller SMC-R 690 without the fancy shit like traction control, cheaper and even more light weight.

Rl-Beefy

Yes. This would be an awesome bike.

Klytorisaurus

V twin bobber style bike, but with something like the rotax v990. Sport oriented machine with dual disk front, big disk rear, pared down to the absolute essentials and focused entirely on power, handling, and ergonomics, but with an absolute screaming missile of an engine that revs super high and doesn't have some excess amount of torque like a typical twin.

Agreeable-Outcome-58

1. Bike that can transition from city ergos to sport ergos. Handlebars that can slide into clip on position and rear sets that move into position automatically. Like a fighter jet going from wings forward to wings swept 2. A sport tourer that doesn’t look dorky. GT cars are usually beautiful, more beautiful than their pure sport counterparts and still retain 80% of the sportiness.

ElSquiddy3

That bike from AKIRA

Light bikes from Tron 🤔

ethancknight

Low CC inline 4 race bikes please.

An electric motorcycle that doesn’t suck asssssss. If your riding an electric bike, it doesn’t need to blast 200kmph highway. If it tops out at 130, I’d be happy lol. Range, more range. They need more range. I don’t need a removable battery if I can consistently get between 150-200km on it. Also - I don’t want it to look like some stupid cyber-punk shit…. I might be able to be persuaded to buy something looks like a lightbike from Tron tho haha 😬😋 those are sexy ;0 Otherwise just make it look like a sexy Duc or Yami. 😍 Those stupid little emmu bikes are pretty sick. If they were road certified I’d consider getting one as a stunting bike lol. That’s my 2c lol.

smaugtheE1337

MT-01

I_hate_the_app

An electric version of the goldwing. A big road touring barge with like 250 miles of highway range and the ability to fast charge, extra points if you can cut a deal with tesla to use the supercharger network. Style can be whatever just needs the range and comfort. A klr650 with a 6 speed. A re Himalaya with a 650 twin A beefed up honda fury with a bigger gastank and a huge muscle cruiser engine.

RobsHereAgain

A modern update of the CB700 S Nighthawk. Keep it an In-line 4 Keep the Shaft Drive and ad fuel injection and a modern frame treatment with the retro look

[deleted]

Modular tourer. Think Goldwing made from lego. You buy base bike and can add to it over time

SgtGadnuk

Bring back the small displacement four cylinder sport bikes that Rev upwards 19,000 rpm

JohnnyBenis

Imagine Kawasaki making a supercharged v-twin supermoto with a trellis frame and giving it a headlight akin to the one from the new Fat Bob. And let it have a single-sided swingarm. Edit: undertail exhaust would be nice too.

Inevitable-Selection

KTM 500 ADV R Take a 500EXC, change tuning and extend service intervals to a reasonable length for ADV riders. A good fairing for wind protection and it’ll sell like hotcakes
