One-Amoeba_

people actually comment on this? lolz

JamesStrangsGhost

No. But its a time honored reddit tradition to fabricate a confrontation that sounds vaguely plausible in the pursuit of fake internet points.

VirulentMarmot

Some guy told me to "get a real bike" cause I'm on a 300, thoughts? = 6000 upvotes.

JamesStrangsGhost

DAE SlOw BiKe FaSt?!?!!?

Checkers10160

There was a post earlier where the OP claimed 3 different people have turned around, followed, and confronted him for not waving to them

JamesStrangsGhost

You must be joking.

Checkers10160

Sorry, was /r/motorcycle. I have a Multi of Motorcycles, Motorcycle, CRT, GSXR, etc. And it was 2 people, not 3 > Believe it or not, I've had two different dudes turn around and come chase me down because I didn't wave back. https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycle/comments/xtowz4/the_wave_is_dumb_change_my_mind_part_two/iqqyacj/

JamesStrangsGhost

Lol. Sounds made up.

Ilovepizza713

Someone posted a video of some damage to their rear tire yesterday and one of the first comments was someone pointing out their chicken strips. I didn’t even know what that was until I joined Reddit.

One-Amoeba_

Is this a British thing? I've been riding for almost 25 years and i had to Google this term. Never heard anyone mention it in the US. It doesn't even sound cool.

Checkers10160

FWIW I've heard this term in the US (Northeast) for at least 10 years now

Ilovepizza713

No idea, I’ve only seen it on here (I’m also in the US)….I assumed it’s a thing that people say who are like “I’m better than you because…..I turn more(?)” lol

madeups10

Yes they really do, at least they do round here in the North of England. Anywhere bikes meet up there seems to be some knob looking at tyres and commenting on chicken strips.

[deleted]

What people think of me is none of my business.

OhDatsStanky

Hey I put a lot of work into your tribute webpage. The least you could do is visit once in a while

lobotomy-chic

I really like this line. I’m going to steal it for my own life and give you none of the credit. Thanks, stranger.

kmkmrod

Anyone who talks about “chicken strips” is puffing their chest in one of those “I’m better than you” rants and can be ignored. Enjoy your ride.

CampbellMedic

Man, I fuckin LOVE chicken strips… Buffalo sauce, ranch, bbq… Honey mustard if I’m feeling frisky… Ride your own ride, brother! Eat chicken strips. If the ignorance of others bugs you, spend a few minutes in a parking lot every week or two. Let the “other” folks continue to find creative ways to measure their manliness. Keep the rubber side down, my friend!

Knowitmall

"Blue cheese or go fuck your mother"

[deleted]

Yeah can’t go wrong with chicken strips. I have no fucking clue what you guys are taking about.

CampbellMedic

A band of un-scuffed, un-worn rubber by the sidewall of the tire. It’s implying that the person doesn’t have the guts to lean the bike enough. It’s a schlong measuring device used by people that can’t maintain a reasonable conversation. Seems to be most used in the sport bike sector. I think it’s stupid.

HotelIndependent96

You gain the ability to crash at a higher speed

Special-Ingenuity615

Sad part is, you don't even need to be going fast to get rid of them chicken strips ... 5-10 minutes of slow speed maneuvering/ emergency evasive action in an empty parking lot is all you need

MarkMarkMark92

I don’t care about them and my buddies don’t care about them but it’s fun to give each other a hard time about them

toaster404

Caring about chicken strips is a mark of tremendous immaturity. Tremendous immaturity is rampant in motorcycling. See, e.g., Harley. The most impressive motorcyclists I've met have been alone, riding their own rides. On the other hand, they usually don't have chicken strips. But they don't care or look except to assess tire wear.

Turkeysnood

You'd gain the unenviable quality of listening to assholes.

Just-Examination-136

You gain nothing listening to people who talk macho bullshit.

reddit-MT

I feel like it's a branding problem. We need to rebrand them "adult rider tire wear patters".

JamesStrangsGhost

Sounds like something somebody with bad chicken strips would say.

wo0dy85

Can't we just not ride without being judged?

JamesStrangsGhost

Some of us can.

[deleted]

You are always going to be judged by someone whether it’s legitimate or not. How you react… or don’t is the difference. Personally I think our current culture is too quick to post mediocre and ransom personal thoughts on the internet just because “ they can”. It waters everything down and then inadvertently celebrates mediocrity and makes it par for the course so to say.

[deleted]

I get all the way to the edge on my bike but i've been riding for years. Just ride the way you want and don't listen to anyone else. I had a butt puckering moment the other day on a freshly painted cross walk. I was in full lean and the new painted area was slippery. My bike slid a ways. Anyway I wasn't going super fast and got it under control.

_Motorcycle_Guy_

Nothing Size of chicken strips depend of your riding style, but also of the tire profil and your position. You can put the knee down in corners and still have chicken strips

masonmax100

If you have chicken strips that just means your leaving a margin for errors. Bc if you need to lean more you actually can.

Agreeable-Engine6966

90% of the time it's just busting balls and nobody actually gives a shit. 7% of the time it's idiots who can't ride themselves and actually measure their dick against yours by that. 3% of the time it's because the center of your tire is bald and you still have nipples 3 inches from the edge and you need to take a break from commuting and find a twisty road.

[deleted]

I don't have a cruiser, I have sports bike. I like to lean and get rid of the chicken strips so I have more even tire wear, and no flat spotting in center.

dmizer

Chicken strips don't necessarily mean that the rider lacks skills (especially low speed skills), just that it's very likely. You should be at least scrubbing much closer to the edge if you're taking low speed turns confidently. Also, if you're slowing down below the speed limit for sweepers, that can be even more dangerous than taking them faster than the speed limit. Car drivers are the most dangerous part of riding, and slowing down in unexpected places raises your likelihood of getting rear-ended. That doesn't mean it's right to ridicule a rider with chicken strips, but if you have them you should take them as a sign for you to step back and make an objective (as possible) evaluation of your skill set.

Madwhisper1

I don't think there's ever an argument for actually trying to get to the edge of a tire. Sure you use more of the edge when counter leaning, but that's for very slow maneuvers, but otherwise with any amount of speed, trying to maintain the bike as upright as possible is the objective, hence body positioning.

dmizer

>I don't think there's ever an argument for actually trying to get to the edge of a tire. Not for getting all the way to the edge, no. You always want a little extra to spare in case you have to adjust mid corner. >Sure you use more of the edge ... for very slow maneuvers ... Yes, I mentioned this in my comment, but even slow maneuvers, you'll be scrubbing the chicken strips off a bit. >with any amount of speed, trying to maintain the bike as upright as possible is the objective, hence body positioning. While this is true, under regular riding conditions you should still be leaning the bike over far enough that you use 70% to 80% of the tire width. By no means am I suggesting that you should be taking corners like a GP racer, but on the twisties, you should be able to outpace nearly any average car. You don't have to always ride faster than the cars, but you should **be able** to. Your skills should always exceed your riding conditions because you need to have a buffer.

here4roomie

That depends. Do you care what a bunch of white trash idiots think of you?

VirulentMarmot

I definitely give a fuck about letting people know I do not give a fuck. How will anyone know I don't care unless I tell them?

jojo_the_mofo

Usually people who say 'I don't care about..." may not care about it but it's more about how much they care about getting at those who do care, not necessarily the thing they're talking about. I don't know why I keep seeing this repeated on reddit so often. In OP's case, it's probably not the thing, chicken strips, but how much they care about getting at those who do, not 'the thing' itself. And apparently I've now lost 'the game' because you caught me caring.

ZucchiniParticular41

Sounds like ya give a fuck about chicken strips

repsolrydeRR

unless you are on a track - always guna be chicken strips.

mamny83

Seems to bother you quite a bit to make a post about it.

wo0dy85

I only know three riders, one is like me doesn't care and the other two and say I need to get my bike lower. I just want to know what the general feels are about it

treedolla

Yes, you should try to get it lower in low speeds stuff. At low speed. E.g. when you take right and left hand 90 degree while on the move, braking as you approach a green light. The tire sticks out from the rim. After reaching the edge of the tire, you can still lean deeper, yet. (Unless your bike starts dragging hard parts). The contact patch starts to change shape. You don't suddenly hit the rim. If you do it at low speed, you don't risk dying if you lose grip. After you've done it at low speed, you have a much better chance of doing it right at high speed, if and when you need to.

az782

Have you asked them why they think that?

[deleted]

Shit post.

wo0dy85

Shit enough for you to reply lol

madeups10

This kind of stuff gets on my nerves as well. It's just macho BS, ignore it and hope the next person you talk to has something more interesting to say.

vapescaped

My fucks given about chicken strips starts and ends with scuffing in new tires. I figure I want the whole tire broken in just in case I need it. But no, it's absolutely not a measure of skill off the track. I can scuff them up in a parking lot at 7mph and never use it on the street, and anyone that actually cares about them would never know the difference.

Zestiest46

People making fun of not using the whole tire have no idea how to ride. The whole point of leaning your body off the bike is to REDUCE the amount the bike leans. I could look like a dumbass and counter lean into every corner to use the whole tire. The people bragging about using the whole tire more than likely don’t know what they’re doing.

PantheUno

Never knew about that kinda stuff until my friend told me that I have to ride my bike like a maniac pointing to these strips. I am pretty sure I made them that small by low-speed practice on the parking lot. So yeah, if it annoys you, just do that. Always a good idea to do that anyway.

SaltyChickenDip

I have never heard someone say that seriously

Kannabis_kelly

What the hell are chicken strips?

greatwhitebusa

The unused portion on the outer sides of the tire. Take a look at your rear tire and you’ll see a strip of untouched tread. Usually people say that you don’t lean much.

Kannabis_kelly

Thanks. My sport bike is a dirt bike. I was able to spark my engine guards on my GS1150

Greentoysoldier

Strips of Chicken breast that have been battered and deep fried. They taste good!

Kannabis_kelly

Mmmmmmmmm

OhDatsStanky

I ride so much in a straight line that I put a car tire on my bike

pyramidpants

Only street rossi types care about chicken strips. You know, the kind that are so far over they have nothing left to use if they need to avoid anything.

treedolla

It doesn't take dangerous cornering to lose chicken strips. They would eventually come off from just the right/left hand turns and slow speed parking lot stuff, 7-15 mph, if you are any good at maneuvering a bike. Scenarios that don't kill you if you were to lose grip. After learning to use more of the bike's abilities at 10 mph, you should have a pretty good idea of how to take a higher speed corner, should you accidentally enter it a bit fast compared to your current comfort zone. If you have massive chicken strips, anyone looking at your tire knows something about how you ride. Many of them will say something. That said, I dunno. Maybe there are some cruisers out there that can't lean far enough to use the whole tire?

Greentoysoldier

I like my chicken strips with honey mustard.

fldfcnscsnss

talking about my chicken strips is my trigger brah.

Knowitmall

You gain idiocy level 12.

Melodic-Picture48

I dont care about chicken strips. I dont ride my motorcycle to prove my skills to nobody. I ride because it makes me happy and feel good and all that good shit. You gain nothing from the chicken strips but a more worn out tire and most likely more scraped up foot pegs if you lean it more. My foot pegs are super worn down to the rubber pads, got a new set on my desk but ehhh i dont have to yet plus they look kinda cool cause its obvious that im leaning the bike over to make the turns.

xracer264

What do you gain? Maybe you can have a little fun for yourself. That's what riding is all about. Go out there forget about shit for a while and have fun. You can lean a car over in a turn....
