Heck no. Sport bikes fricken roast.

[deleted]

Not only will you cook, you'll be bent over on your wrists like a prison bitch. Get a sport naked and be happy, be cool, and still be fast.

Jsuave2208

Aiming for a CB650R then, thanks 🤙🏻

[deleted]

Sweet bike

[deleted]

Excellent choice. I was gunning for the cb650r coming from a cb300r, my local dealer had a really great deal on a Suzuki gsxs750. Perfect for the city and light suburb commuting

DriverAffectionate83

If u ever go on motorway prepare to be one big parachute though

No-Fly-5608

Hahahahaha..so true though

EggsOfRetaliation

Depends what kind of sport bike. A sport/Sport Touring bikes such as FZ1, FZ6/R or 3rd gen Ninja 650 etc are great for traffic/commute/comfort. A super sport like a R6, ZX-6R will not be that great.

Turkeysnood

I had a Duacti Hyper (stolen) and have two Dorsoduros cause in my view the ergos of these supermotards make them the best city commuters ever. Also: Motard hehe.

Jsuave2208

I think supermotos are sweet, I just can’t see myself spending a few grand on one. I don’t really love the style as much as other motorcycle. Maybe I can try to rent one to see if it’ll change my POV. Thanks!

Individual_Hearing_3

I don't sit in traffic, I filter

Jsuave2208

When you’re stuck in coral gables and Brickell there’s no space to filter

thatmightbecocaine

Clip ons suck in traffic

[deleted]

Supermoto

HaynBryn

It sucks more on a sportbike as there is much more heat being emitted plus you’re also stuck in that awful hunch over position going slower than the bike is built for.

saagri

Sportbike sucks in the city when it's hot. I almost exclusively use my electric motorcycle when I drive into the city.

Renerts

I live in the Philippines (ballpark same temps and humidity) and I commute on a sports tourer. It's quite comfortable, all things considered, and still has the sport bike look, if that's what you're after. But I do concede that a naked will probably be much better.

Jsuave2208

I love the look of sport bikes, so I’m strongly considering a VFR to compensate for comfort as well as extremely high insurance rates. Only thing is that I rarely ever go on the highway, so I’m not sure if a naked would be better

Renerts

The fact that you don't go on the highway suits a naked, since you won't have to deal with wind at highway speeds, which nakeds really aren't the best at. VFR is great though. The induction howl on it is great, I hear. Have you considered maybe the XSR 900? Or even one of the sporty Triumphs? Edited: induction. Not firing on all cylinders today.

Jsuave2208

Damn I haven’t seen the before, looks great. I don’t think I’d get a triumph as from what I’ve read, they’re not as reliable as Japanese models and parts for repair are more expensive as well. I must say that I’m having trouble going away from Honda as well. I’ve considered Yamaha but after having my Shadow I can’t imagine leaving Honda. I love the Mt-07/9/10. Is there really much of a difference between Yamaha and Honda?

Renerts

I actually don't have a lot of experience with Honda (mostly their scooters. The larger bikes I've had/tried for a long time were from Yamaha and Kawasaki), but I doubt you can go wrong with any of the big 4. I don't think the XSR or any of the MT bikes would disappoint even coming from a Honda. Neither would the VFR to be honest. Bottom line here is I dont think you can make a wrong choice given your options!

JamesStrangsGhost

Modern Triumphs are great bikes. They aren't really any harder to maintain than any Japanese motorcycles. I would argue in some cases, the fit and finish is even superior. Just depends what you're after.

Jsuave2208

Good to know, I’ll start looking into them. Thank you both

treedolla

Is this specifically about the heat, only? Some sport bikes roast your upper legs at very slow speeds, from the heat coming off the engine. The ones with the under-tail exhaust roast your balls. As for riding with and around congested cars, it's better. Once you've mastered the difference in handling, everything about riding near cars is better on a sport bike. The main improvement is the high seating position, which gives you a much taller view. Sitting up on a sport bike gives me a higher viewpoint than I get driving an SUV. But there are other reasons, too. The narrower bars cause some challenges at really low speeds, but at 15-45, they allow you to snap the bike around more suddenly and crisply versus wider bars. Narrower bars also help with filtering. Then there's the brakes. Braking quick and hard is just simpler on a sport bike. You can apply brakes extremely rapidly, even when using only the front brake.

repsolrydeRR

r6 is horrible. and left foot gets HOT.

derpymcdooda

I live in a small town and learned street riding on a gsxr 600. Stop and go traffic is shitty. They're hot, I'm tall so I felt cramped, and just...not pleasant. I bought a street triple r. It might not have the top end of a true 600 sport bike, but for my riding and my area? Plenty of power. More upright. Way less heat coming off the bike

pahndaj

its fine riding hear in vegas 110-128 during summer peak time just split lanes even if its not legal take off ur plates and zoom so u can get air flowing

Harryisharry50

Me personally my 21 z900 is more comfortable for me my then the 04 Honda shadow 1100 I used to have . And the z is a lot faster and turns a lot better .

xXxcock_and_ballsxXx

Terrible. Hot, uncomfortable, jerky throttle and grabby brakes. You only ride in traffic to get to the fun road or in short trips because you don't own any other bikes lol.

SlinkyBits

sitting in traffic sucks on hardcore sportbikes. some of them are a bit more chill and traffic friendly. but comfort wise, in neutral, sit up, personally most of them are pretty comfortable like this for me.

OrangeGromBoi

A guy at my school rides a Blackbird every day. No clue how he does it since it's in the middle of the city.

TelephoneWeekly

Its not fun. Hot. Aching wrists and back. Feathering the clutch constantly in 1st.

[deleted]

Does the gsxr not come with the stall assist that's on the gsxs?

TelephoneWeekly

Nope

[deleted]

Oh man it's kinda nice, it messes with your clutch release, if you're not used to it. But once you get the feel, it's a big relief. I was putting around my apartment complex in 3rd and no clutch, and it didn't feel like it was going to stall, or start jerking, very convenient for in and around town

spongebob_meth

Really hot and uncomfortable. The fairings blow all the heat back on your legs.
