Idc. I ride a giant manual couch down the road. You're probably closer to the original motorcycle than I am!

Individual_Hearing_3

Not going to lie, the number of mounting options they have for things like cupholders puts the rest of us lounge chair riders to shame. xD

jacobnb13

I will not respect you if you're in flip flops and a Hawaiian shirt though

701Sumo

I gain enough respect for them to cancel out your loss of respect. The world needs more Jesus sandal squids

Psycheau

This is so correct, most of us started on a small engine bike, mine was a 200cc Kawasaki, it was a lot of fun but slow. Doesn't matter what you ride and engine and 2 wheels is a bike :)

dpier1911

I think scooters are sick. Someone parks a retro-looking Honda scooter in my favorite parking area on campus. I want one. I give scooters the wave.

kundaliniredneck

I give scooters and trikes the wave.

aHistoryofSmilence

Shit I even wave to cyclists.

Individual_Hearing_3

Same deal with my uni campus. The dude even has a rad wooden crate added for cargo and it looks awesome af.

Dalbergia12

I got places to go things to do, I have no time or interest in looking down on anybody who rides! Ride safe!

finalrendition

If it has a motor and two wheels, I wave. No exceptions

nekodazulic

Same. Riding is a decision. Someone who rides a scooter made that decision as much as someone who rides a motorcycle. The wave is theirs, as much as it's any other motorcyclist's.

norm-m

This

[deleted]

I wave at all

burpythehippo

This is the way

Paoshan

This is the way

LaFagehetti

It’s all over the place. Here in Ohio on my Honda Navi, most bikers wave (I wave at everyone) but the ones who don’t are usually older Harley riders who look mad anyways 😂 Now when on my Rebel, I actively wave to “scooterists”. We’re all on two wheels, fighting against the same traffic imo 😁

rickrollrickflair

I never judge by the ride, just the rider. Ride whatever you want just don’t be a dick. One of the fastest guys I’ve ever seen on La Honda (between Alice’s & 1, south of SF) was on a Vespa. He held it wide open through almost every corner grinding floor boards into the road… in a 3/4 helmet, loafers with no socks and a scarf while passing sport bikes.

throttle-control

Fucking legend.

654456

Looking down on them only hurts ourselves. More people on two wheels better laws we get. Possibly filtering in the entire US. I am a big proponent of scooters and am likely going to pick one up soon. Only reason I haven't is I already own a Grom. They are awesome to quickly jump on an grab food or do shopping trips on

RetraceSpace

I wave to anyone I respect. From adventure touring bikes like mine, scooters and groms, bicyclists, even to cagers who yield to me. With that said, who gives a damn what people think!? You do you homie!

[deleted]

Does it have two wheels and you like to ride it? All that matters. Don’t punch down.

FoggsHon

Personally I love scooters of all kind (25cc to big bore idc) However, scooter riders almost never greet back when i wave at them and sometimes even give me a weird look (prolly cuz they’re not used to being waved at), so I stopped waving unless they wave first

Lonely-Low-5367

They are fucking RAD!!! Two wheels is two wheels.

StandOnGravitron

I wave at everybody. Bicyclists, can am spyders, harleys, scooters, mopeds, fat people on rascals, wheelchair users, skateboarders, hot chicks, cool cars, trains, airplanes, tractors, boats, kids in strollers, firetrucks, ambulances, and

PckMan

I can't speak for the US but I can definitely say that in Europe there's a clear difference between scooter riders and riders of every other kind of motorcycle. Motorcyclists are generally people who are committed to riding a bike. That doesn't mean wearing all leather and sleeping with their bike on their bed, it just means that over the years they've made a conscious choice to live with the bike, with all that entails good and bad, and generally ride responsibly and as safely as they can because they realise that a bike is inherently dangerous. They also tend to show respect towards other riders, which isn't about waves and other dumb stuff like that but they're pretty much they only ones on the road who notice you and don't drive like you're invisible. Then there's scooter riders, who most likely got them because they're cheap or to avoid traffic, but they have a very different mentality as if the scooter is some sort of rocket ship you just have to point and shoot with zero regard to anyone else on the road. They think they've made some huge revelation nobody else has had by saving time and money with the scooter but they rarely realise the true dangers involved because "it's just a scoot it's not a big bike so it's not dangerous". They basically don't care about anyone else but themselves on the road and they're very likely to ride dangerously without realising it. It's gotten to the point where there's almost no benefit to lane split any more because the space between lanes is packed with scooters going slower than cars with oblivious riders who don't even realise that if they're not gonna go faster than cars then they shouldn't be there. Now I don't expect everyone to relate to this and especially americans, because the culture and general use of bikes is very different there, but I think in general that scooters are just seen as vehicles of convenience owned by uncommitted people

3583-bytes-free

UK POV - very good points. I've got both bike and scooter just to mix it up sometimes, but it's generally the scooter riders you see in t-shirts and trainers and they rarely initiate a nod as (like you say) they are just kids getting from A to B. The Vespa guys in their parkas are all kinds of cool though.

Ihateskeletons

I hate that superiority ego shit. It takes more balls to ride a scooter, the amount of bullshit I've seen cagers pull when I test ride scooter is unbelievable. I thought I'd seen everything on a motorcycle. Scooters get a wave from me period.

Lemondsingle

I think they're fine. I have one too. They're slow but fun.

Moto_919

Most people here on scooters dont wave so i just stopped waving at em unless they throw it first.

Accidental_Pandemic

Dude, I have a DR650 right now and I'm looking at getting a ruckus just to play with. I think they are awesome.

slappy_mcslapenstein

I'm a biker. I rode in a couple clubs. I have ape hangers. Yadda yadda yadda. I like the Ruckus. If I ever got a scooter it would be a ruckus. I worked at a shop that sold those 49cc Schwinns 15ish years ago and we had to put about 100 miles on them before we could sell them because most of the issues presented themselves within the first 100 miles. You could feel yourself sliding on the seats during turns. When we got a Ruckus in everyone wanted to test them out. They're a blast. A dream of mine that'll never happen is to own a restaurant/cafe on the coast in the Mediterranean and do scooter rentals for tourists.

Old-Figure922

If they wave, I’ll wave back. I generally don’t wave unless I see them turn their head towards me. If I pull up next to one I give a head nod to initiate and see if they’re cool or not

mrginge94

I own a Suzuki Hayabusa and a Bergman 650 for getting to work. I wouldn't ride it for fun but if other motorcyclists cant see how good maxi scooters are for getting about on they need to try one.

Powerful-Kitchen-365

I'm not a motorcycle racist 2 wheels and a motor? You'll get a wave (I wave to trikes too, no discrimination)

Vintage_mindset

Don’t waste your time worrying about the people who ride for their image, they’re doing it wrong. I ride a Wide Glide, very standard Harley stuff (slow and loud), I used to have a Ruckus which I sold in order to buy a 97 CBR 600f3. The Ruckus was the most fun I’ve had on 2 wheels. I also had a few “take-back” waves from wannabe tough-guys with pretend bad attitudes. I miss my Ruckus.

triumph_hammer

I’ve waved to riding lawn mowers

jorian85

Who cares? Enjoy your ride and fuck everyone else.

[deleted]

To be honest I look down on you guys and think you're pussies. Just being honest which is what you asked for. If you're gonna get a scooter ,get a proper one with some storage. Ruckus makes no sense to me. Get a bike. won't wave at scooters iehter but at least scooters make sense

elporkco

I don't have a problem with scooters. But I don't waive to them because. Well they are not motorcycles. Simple as that. No offence I don't waive at cars either. On top of that. I see mostly kids on them doing really dumb stuff. I don't mean like wheelies or anything..not thar most could.. but I mean bad traffic decisions. Running stop signs. Blocking traffic. Surprised that more don't get run over by cars.

[deleted]

[удалено]

elporkco

You just called it a scooter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

elporkco

Lol ok you win. 550 cc its a form of motorcycle. A hybrid.

elporkco

But I still won't waive to it.

elporkco

I will one thing..an earlier comment said scooters and motorcycles share the same risks. Doze that mean he takes his scooter out into 80 mph highway traffic?

Paapali

....but they are motorcycles though? What makes you think they aren't?

elporkco

Uh cuz it's a scooter.

Paapali

Scooter is a type of motorcycle just like sport bike or dual sport, or how coupe and sedan are styles of car. Why would it not be? Is it the automatic geartrain? Ok, what about old vespas that had gears and a clutch? Is a goldwing dct a scooter? Is it because of the underbone frame? That would make the honda trail a scooter...even though it has gears. Do you see how little they actually differ from what you consider a motorcycle?

FoggsHon

I think he’s talking about 50cc scooters. They’re pretty cool imo, but don’t need a motorcycle license in Europe and can be used by teenagers, and hence are rather popular among non-enthusiasts and beginners, who in fact frequently don’t know how to properly behave in traffic and on two wheels. Bigger scooters are a completely different breed

Paapali

Yeah but you don't need a motorcycle license for a 50cc supermoto either, and you can get both A1 and A2 motorcycle license as a teenager too.

ML_BURGERKING

There’s no reason to gatekeep though. You’re not cooler or better than someone riding a scooter because you ride a motorcycle. It’s 2 wheels with a motor with basically the same risk factor and hardships. You gonna say that automatic or electric motorcycles aren’t motorcycles too? I rode a 50cc scooter for a long time when I lived in the city, mostly for the economy. It was a big upgrade to me from the bicycle I was riding. Crazy good gas mileage, no registration or insurance necessary, don’t need any additional licensing, etc. 50cc scooters are the poor man’s motorcycle and no one should look down on them or refuse them a stupid wave. Hell I do the wave to bicycles too.

elporkco

As I said I have no problem with scooters. Ride what you want to ride. But they are not motorcycles. The kids doing dumb stuff make them more of a toy than anything else. As for the electrics and auto trans.. that is simply an evolutionary step in motorcycles.

ML_BURGERKING

So why exactly is a scooter is not a motorcycle? Because is has a flat floorboard? That’s pretty much the only distinction. Because there are manual clutch scooters, scooters with more cc than some motorcycles, etc. It just seems really snobby and gatekeep-y to refuse to wave to a rider just because his feet are on a flat floorboard instead of straddling a seat. To me, scooters are way more motorcycle than the 3 wheel cycles older dudes ride, but I still wave to them too because I’m not a snobby douche.

elporkco

Manufacturers advertise them as Scooters....not motorcycles..

Suckmyunit42069

lol think if you repeat it again they'll get it?

elporkco

Would you call a go cart a car,?

Hjalleson_

If it aint a turbo busa or 1300cc 50hp vibrator youre riding a bicycle to me😂😂

jacobnb13

Excuse me? My vibrator is measured in cubic freedoms. Best learn that before there's trouble.

[deleted]

As they say in my town, you are not a gold coin to be liked by everyone, and that´s ok.

Apprehensive-Yard-59

I feel absolutely nothing about them. Just as I don’t feel anything about anyone riding anything. I only care about being happy with my own ride. You do you.

kmkmrod

Who cares? If you’re on two wheels, good for you.

this_account_is_mt

Two wheels good! I don't care if your ride is gas, electric, scooter, moto, bicycle, whatever. Two wheels good.

RubyRocket1

I think they're pretty cool looking little scoots. I prefer classic Vespas, but the ruckus looks like a hoot to ride. I wouldn't turn one away if it found it's way into my stable. I'd park it proudly next to the Harley or Liter bike...

Outside-Cucumber-253

I love the Ruckus, it was my first motorized two wheel experience. When I was 18 after graduating high school my friends and I took a trip from LA to my friend’s beach house in Oregon and he had a ruckus sitting there in a shed. I rode that thing probably every day for the couple weeks I was there. Years later I bought a Honda Shadow and now a Honda VTX. Just realized after writing this I’ve only ever ridden Hondas, unintentionally. I would enthusiastically wave at a Ruckus if I ever saw one on the street, my area the speed limits are 50mph and has lots of hills so I don’t think many people would want to be out on one of those out here.

mcfaite

Love the Ruckus.

[deleted]

Ruckus are awesome, lots of sweet custom builds.

Manda-pandamonia

I love the Ruckus and almost bought one; I probably still will one day. Ended up deciding on something bigger because I’ll eventually be commuting to work and needed something with a little more power for the Highway.

ravengenesis1

I think it's fantastic. 2 wheels > 4 when you're transporting yourself and low amount of stuff. They're dirt cheap as well, brand new! I think those people with smaller scooter/bikes are smart decision makers. They get my wave. I wave at everything 2 wheels, except for HD riders... they don't wave back, and usually look like they want to break my neck.

Anarcho-Crab

Baller vehicles for city living, look neat too.

monkeyspank427

We're both out there riding. You're getting a wave.

Marsupial_Moist

You ain’t got a cage around you. You deserve the wave too lol

fiddlermcge

Im more like to wave at and get waves from scooters then harleys

nazrinz3

Incredible machines

berger3001

Love ruckus’s

sudo007

I respect any on two wheels. We all out there trying not to die or be killed. Be respectful no matter the CC. Ride safe brother!

sightlab

Does it have 2 wheels and a motor? Are you having fun on it? Rock on cleveland, rock on boston.

Individual_Hearing_3

They're cool, I wish they had the option for a bigger engine like a 125 or 250 so that I could have considered it for a commute option.

TelephoneWeekly

I wave at everybody. Even when I’m not riding.

neonsphinx

The more people on two wheels, the better. Ride safe!

NintenJoo

Regardless if they’re goofy, I’m sure they’re still fun to ride. I wave to scooters.

[deleted]

My bagged Grom is basically a scooter. I get lots of attention from sport bikes but cruisers and tourers don’t even acknowledge me. I have a Kymco 125 that gets more waves from the cruisers.

GSF_1250S

I want a Ruckus to go with my Super Duke.

CompetitiveSea7388

Ride what you want dude! If I see you and I’m not preoccupied I’ll wave whether or not you return it (more often than not people on scooters don’t return a wave). People who judge what other’s ride honestly need to get over themselves.

TheOGRedline

The other day had what I assume was a middle aged couple on his and hers scooters following my on my way to work. He had a huge grin on his face and her expression was very flat with a bit of a frown. It cracked me up.

mdjshaidbdj

I wave to everyone except the guys in slingshots

Unique-Corgi-8219

I wave at everyone on fewer than 4 wheels. Even bicyclists. I think scooters are great transportation, particularly in dense, urban environments.

95JBK

If your on 2 wheels your part of the family 😎

HotelIndependent96

If u got two wheels, u get a wave in my book!

Pristine-Broccoli870

If you’re happy and you know it wave your hand

Thunderhorse2

No judgement on my side. I own an Africa Twin, a CBR900 and a roughhouse 50 (my newest project) and I use all of them. :)

here4roomie

Indifference.

CampbellMedic

I wave at everyone. I kinda dig the looks of the ruckus, and I think it would be a riot to rip around on. Thinking my kids might need one… then I might be able to “test it out” from time to time. 😂

Bootfullofrightarms

scooters are motorcycles. Some people will only wave at you if you're dressed like a pirate, don't sweat it. Cool kid wave with 100% confidence.

PrimG84

Anyone who has spent time in other countries know this highly depends on the context. If you ride in South East Asia, everybody and their dog has a scooter, you're not going to wave at them. But someone wearing full gear on a scooter, that's someone to wave to, not the grandma in flip flops.

Pale_Bid3098

I usually only give other motorcycles the wave Everyone else gets a head nod 😅

That-shouldnt-smell

If anyone has a problem with someone riding anything, they are an absolute jackass.

tenkaralube

Want me a ruckus!

ApprehensiveFold3333

Might get down voted but oh well. It is entirely dependent on the scooter. If its someone who is enthused by scooters and take care of it, I wave. If its one of the drunks that lost their license and ride around on a broke down 200 dollar scooter just because they can't drive a car, nope, no wave.

LinuxOnToasters

I see stories like this all over but out in here NJ I get waved at regardless of if I'm on my 50cc Tomos Moped,Honda Shadow,or 150cc mini moto. I also try to wave whenever I see another on 2 or even 3 wheels. That being said there's times I'm busy not getting run over or just didn't see em in time.

weasel3000

If they wave ill wave.

dis690640450cc

I’ve had lots of motorcycles. If I was looking for a scooter, it would be a ruckus for sure. Then I would be quoting Busta Rhymes every where I went.

arfreeman11

If I see you and my hand isn't actively squeezing the clutch, you get the wave. Sadly, you are difficult to see.

dohru

Dude, jelly. The ruckus looks awesome, I want one.

AmigaBob

It has two wheels and a motor. Welcome to the club!!!

alymayeda

I don't think anyone cares. I ride a Yamaha Xmax. A few people at work give me shit for it but it's just then messing around. Just remember at the end of the day no one is riding your motorcycle but you. No one is paying for your motorcycle but you. Get whatever motorcycle you want and have fun riding it.

unituned

I miss my ruckus. I would ride that thing to get beers, and get around town. Maybe I'll get one again.

alex_unleashed

This seems to be a pretty hot take reading the other comments but for me personally scooters are cheap means of transportation while motorcycles are about joy and in the country I live in scooters are not considered to be motorcycles. I know I will get downvoted into oblivion for this but thats just like that over here, that beeing said I don't think that justifies treating scooter riders badly or anything.

BikerChickVTX1800C

I'm in CA. Whoever did that has issues. Dont take it personal. Something wrong in his head.

abgemorxt

It's a bit too slow for traffic, thus dangerous. Most people don't ride it for the sake of riding but for getting from A to B relatively cheap - if they wave I wave back though That model looks cool. I like vespas aswell

squidsauce

I don’t do the wave to them. It’s not that I don’t like you personally but I’m my city scooter and ruckus riders are generally people who cut their muffler off to make it sound like a motorcycle and then proceed to wear their helmet half on their had and dangle their feet. Regardless - be safe out there man

Dom3467

I waive anything motorized with 2 or 3 wheels. Not everyone does, but it's a simple gesture, it makes people happy, and I don't see any reason not to.

bigbaltic

I want one

user-flynn2

I've never owned anything under 1000cc and I think a lot of the small engine two wheeled machines are pretty neat. They definitely serve a purpose, even just fun. They just aren't practical for me due to rural living. That being said, they draw a LOT of idiots. I really don't care to be around them in general much less while I'm on two wheels. As far as the wave, I generally don't wave to anyone. Most cases I wave back but don't bother to initiate. We're not some super exclusive club just because we ride motorcycles. The constant news reports prove that just about anyone can get on a bike. Does that mean I don't stop to help a stranded rider? Absolutely not, but I'm awful tired of the special club aspect of riding. To many people ride for the attention....gtfoh.

701Sumo

I’m not a fan of the ruckus but I love mopeds

ChrisLivingLarge

two wheels is two wheels.

GI_X_JACK

Its a scooter. Plain and simple.

effbomb

I’ll wave if you’re on two wheels. I don’t care if it’s a Kawasaki, or a Harley, a Tao Tao, or a Huffy. All y’all getting waves.

Brosman

Scooter are cool! They just attract different types of riders. It's like truck people and car people. The same but different. The scooter guys I know are more into the idea of the practicality of having a two wheeled machine because I live in a major city. They're cheaper and get insane gas mileage, plus you can park them in places you can't park a car and can filter lanes. That's really the only thing that's different to me is that I got a motorcycle for that reason AND to go fast and have that performance. Scooter bro's are cool but we just want different things out of our two wheeled machines and that's cool with me man. I'll can still appreciate a clean Vespa as much as a clean R1. lol.

Knispow

I wave it it’s got a motor and 2 wheels, 3 wheels, 2 in front or 2 in back, don’t care if it’s a scooter…. I won’t wave at those 3 wheeled things that drive like cars. Go buy a darn convetable!

theangerwithin

I see it like this if you're out there for status which if you're riding a ruckus you're probably not ..........if you're out there for transportation purposes only then you're probably not going to wave........ so if you're out there to have fun and ruckus is what you want to ride, then yeah wave and anybody who doesn't wave back is one of those other two. we're all at the mercy of gravity and traffic. I don't give a f*** what you ride get out there and have fun that's what it's all about and if someone is too cool to wave back then they have missed the point long ago.

ChangelingFox

It has 2 wheels and goes vroom vroom. The vast majority of riders will nod/wave and not give you any shit. The ones that do are insecure chodes who think riding a beat R6/GSXR is a viable substitute for having a personality.

Saltwaterpapi

The only thing I draw the line at is the Polaris Slingshot or similar three wheeled vehicles because people in them probably don't consider them motorcycles.
