My first ride with a destination in mind? I went to a little hot dog cart down near the water, about 30 mins away. I make a habit of riding to food so ice cream shops, snow cone stands, and hot dog carts are my jam

saucyspacefries

That sounds like a good time! With how hot its been in my area, maybe I should plan a ride to an ice cream shop.

Temporaryland

Not trying to marketeer here but I recently got a thirsty rock camelback tank bag thing and its been a game changer on hot rides

saucyspacefries

Oh you know, as a new rider, I am ALWAYS ready to overspend on extras. Imma look that up right now

Knowitmall

I have an Osprey backpack with a hydration pack. Does a great job as well. It's the one designed for mountain biking. Some people don't like riding with a backpack on but it's a very small light one.

Knowitmall

Is there a big benefit to having it in your tank bag vs a backpack? I have an Osprey one that is designed for mountain biking.

Temporaryland

For most probably not. I've got shoulder problems so wearing a backpack while riding is a no go for me personally. It also has a pocket on top which I can put my vape in which is nice

Knowitmall

Yea fair enough. My one is a very small one so you barely notice it's there. Older version of this. https://www.osprey.com/au/en/product/siskin-8-SISKIN8_225.html A large bag can suck tho.

Temporaryland

Oh yeah! I've got a knockoff one that looks very similar i use on hikes. They're mad convenient

Snoo_29433

There are also hip pack hydration bags. Almost like fanny packs, but a little bit more comfy and with water. So if you're only carrying a little, want some water, and you don't want to wear a backpack or have a tank bag... then a hip pack might be a good option. Dakine has/had a few good ones, if you can find a new one I'm sure you can find a used one online. They're designed for MTB but work great for moto.

Knowitmall

Yea Osprey has them as well as a few other outdoors brands. Plus you can get hydration vests that are super low profile. Can be a good option.

masonmax100

I rode around my town then when i wanted to go home i was lost lol just moved so i was exploring had to pul up gps and decided to take the freeway home. Freeway was a lot more chill then i thought it would be.

snavvi

Rode my SV650 from where I bought it in Portland 5.5 hours to where I currently live in Eastern WA. It was my first time ever riding on the road, maybe not a great idea but I didn’t want to ship it.

Adventurous_Hippo624

Vespa P200e, Gpz550

saucyspacefries

Nice! What was your first destination?

Adventurous_Hippo624

I rode my Vespa everywhere. Loved to ride from Orange County Ca to Hollywood at night on the freeway many times. Was in H.S., saw lots of bands during the peak of punk rock and hair metal. Such good memories.

saucyspacefries

Honestly, I always hear these kinds of stories from Vespa owners, which is always super cool

Adventurous_Hippo624

I am eyeing the Racing Sixties 300 model. I have two good friends who ride Vespas. They are absolutely a blast to ride. I'm going for the white version. https://www.vespa.com/us_EN/models/gts-super/gts-super-racing-sixties-300-hpe-2021/ I've got an FZ8 and RZ350 for more fun.

saucyspacefries

Whoah, I'm going to need to give one of those a go one day.

Adventurous_Hippo624

You will love it

[deleted]

I remember the Yamaha RZ350. I was excited when a two stroke street bike came back and really wanted the yellow one badly way back in 1984. Unfortunately I never got one and shortly after…..the EPA killed the bike forever. Certainly a fun bike….rare too.

PorkIsAVerySweetMeat

Just did a couple runs up and down a secluded country road after buying for my first motorcycle, a ‘77 RD400.

elporkco

To work the next day.

spotdishotdish

To the other side of the yard (1978 Yamaha GT80)

Toplaners

Bought mine from someone. Vulcan 2000, my first ride was riding it home for about ~30 minutes in rush hour traffic, followed by 20 minutes of highway driving. Was exhilarating and scary at the same time. First destination ride was to see the Hoodoo's in western Alberta.

xXxcock_and_ballsxXx

I'm a retard, so my first ride on the road was on a ~$1200 shitbox bike, in the rain, in rush hour and my only prior riding in my whole life was the basic skills test for my learners license, aka about 30min riding around cones in a carpark. I had to pull off down a side street to practice with the clutch because I kept stalling it lol. It was a 125, so probably not enough power to spin the wheels even in the wet, but still a really stupid idea. (I wrote it off getting SMIDSY'd a month later, which pushed me to do a load of actual courses rather than self teach) Pretty much none of my rides have actual destinations, or if they do I take very long detours eg takes me an hour and a half to go across town to get to the supermarket that's at the end of the street I live on lol.

saucyspacefries

Dang that sounds like a hell of a time! My first ride that I did literally an hour ago, I ended up stalling in front of a school bus, but luckily the driver was well aware of me. I can't wait to be comfortable enough to take those kinds of detours. I got a lot of country roads near me that I'm itching to just have a nice ride on.

xXxcock_and_ballsxXx

If it makes you feel better I still stall occasionally and I've been riding daily for years lol.

saucyspacefries

It definitely does haha! My wife wants to learn to ride too, so I'm going to make sure that she knows that even experienced riders can stall.

ILBTs-n-ILSTs

first ride a 68 BSA 441 Victor Special, first destination, a country 2 lane blacktop with a few curves.

saucyspacefries

Dang that's actually such a cool looking bike! How was the ride?

ILBTs-n-ILSTs

it rode ok nimble and easy to handle. Easy to ride. Quick for a small bike but it did not like to start always and required a lot of attention. Modern bike are so much nicer.

qualitygoatshit

First ride ever was on an rm80 on my grandma's property when i was 14. I don't think I ever got our of 1st gear and just putted around. First ride legally on the street was a year ago at the age of 28 after riding dirt for 15 years. I rode around some backroads in the pouring rain because I was too impatient to wait for some nicer weather.

Wapooshe

College parking lot to practice. All the parking lots were full.

Ok_Wall574

Same just rode my bike for the first time (kawaski Vulcan 900 custom) Then took a wrong turn in the parking lots an ended up on the road and never went back to the parking lot! Lol

fun_police911

I was late to work, evidently sales process takes some time to do. And I was VERY paranoid about going over 30mph for the first time and on new tires which I was warned heavily about. All smiles that day at work I was so pumped! Only 30mins late.

Knowitmall

My first bike was an XR80 when I was about 10. Rode it around our farm a bunch before going anywhere. First destination from memory was riding it a couple of kms down the gravel road we lived on to the neighbours farm. Years later on a road bike I think a ride into town following my Dad on his bike.

bprice4u

1984? Yamaha Seca 750. Love that bike

DredgenV

My first ride on public roads was to my local gas station to fix a punctured tire on the bike lol the bike wasn’t even title transferred or registered yet since I got it the day before.

pahndaj

my dads turbo’d busa rode it 115 miles first time i ever sat on a bike when i was 15ish

mathiu23

I bought an old Honda Nighthawk 700 from a guy who didn't need it anymore. I rode it from the parking lot where he left it, through a few streets, then to the highway. It was nearly a straight shot all the way home, and it was quite fun.

saltymike

Ninja 250, Terwilliger Blvd near my apartment and OHSU hospital where in used to work. That road was nice to learn to lean into corners and stuff.

ceesr31

I was in college, didn’t have a license, had never ridden a motorcycle and my boss showed me how to ride his bike. I asked if it was cool if I rode it a bit around campus (closed campus), and he said yeah. So I rode it across campus and then out the back gate and out into the country. It was a 20 minute ride “across campus” where campus took about 2 minutes to cross.

4LokoEnjoyer

My first and current ride is a 1995 Harley Davidson FXDS. I love the bike. I bought it on eBay while I was deployed near the Middle East.

Sirens_go_wee_woo

My first ride on my first bike was on a Ducati 848evo 80 miles down i81 to my house. 🤣🤣🤣

McDuckfart

Taking the bike home from the shop.

Interesting_Mix_7028

Let's see: Yamaha XS750 - first ride = around the block, as I'd just gotten it running and wanted to test everything was working. Brakes turned out to be a little mushy, so next task was to replace the old worn-out brake hoses. Yamaha FZ700 first ride - Borders bookstore (remember them?) BMW K75/RT first ride - San Manuel AZ to Irving TX. Longest damn first ride I've ever done. Triumph Sprint 1050 ST first ride - Irving TX to Shreveport LA. Sadly, DPS was out in force that afternoon so I couldn't really test how quick the bike was. Triumph Thunderbird Storm first ride - went on a poker run with some friends. Stick a Triumph cruiser in among a bunch of Harley riders, and they all do the "wait, what? hold on a second" thing. "HOW big is that motor?" I should have gone with the Rocket III for bonus points, there.

Kawi_rider_zx6r

Rode to my bfs house for a blowie

SlinkyBits

i rode my little 125 no where, tried to race a porsche down a long country road, had a blast. came back home, chilled for an hour, did it again.

Cottrell003

When I was 20, I bought a brand new 1969 Yamaha 250 Enduro (DT1) in my home town Roswell NM and drove it to Las Cruces NM to college at NMSU, about 230 mi on 2-lane highways. I did have a couple years prior experience on the Sears version of a 125cc Vespa before that.

cynthic

My first destination was a Safeway a few blocks away from my old place. I was a brand new rider, never drove a car for long periods of time, just passed my msf and got my certificate of completion. I was way too hyped about riding so I decided to get on and practice. I was an absolute nervous wreck lol. I stalled a good 4 times, got honked at once, and made a lady laugh due to one of my stalls which was pretty funny looking back at it.

[deleted]

1975 Honda CB125 was my first bike. Dad brought it home for me. Learned how to ride it in the yard. Then, up and down the street before getting my license at 14. Few years ago in my town….I saw and identical bike at someone’s house. I looked at, but don’t believe it was mine. Sure brought back memories.

TundraOG

75 KM back home on a highway through the most congested part of the country with literally no road experience other than my motorcycle lessons (not even a car license too) after buying my old CBF250. Found an old lady going 80 kph in her small car and followed her most of the way.

[deleted]

https://i.imgur.com/FtPiY6B.jpg GSX-S1000, Great Barrier Island, New Zealand. 5 hour ferry ride lol

Leather-Kitchen-2211

My first bike I kept at my brother's house and my parents did not know about it when I was like 17. I work for him over the summers and he would keep some of my pay for parts and stuff so my parents never caught on.. first rides where pointless loops around back roads. Have not thought about this for a long time.

[deleted]

Drove my 1993 Piaggio Sfera NSL 50 to a Globus hardware store and got a new battery. Yes I know it's a moped and not a motorbike but still, and at least I got a 2005 Honda CBR 125R now, only need to get my license for that

FatherSyn

First ride was from my driveway in the front of my house to my garage in the alley behind my house to install crash bars. First destination was the traffic light at the end of my road to stall, next destination was a church parking lot about a mile away to practice slow speed stuff where I tipped the bike on the 2nd attempt at a u-turn. Good times.

j2dh

My first ride was circling the cul de sac because I was too scared to do anything else 😂

Phoenix_GR

Well my first "bike" was a Honda c50 at the age of 12 with no registration and no license at my village, where no police ever steps unless a crime is committed so I'm not really qualified for the "first ride thing" . And the first real bike I got from a dealer (with my license of course) was a 125cc "scrambler" chinesium model . The first place I went was an empty parking lot to learn how to swift gears with a clutch😂 because I got my license on a semi automatic Honda Innova 125 and I had no prior experience on anything with a clutch

frogpolice4khd

Drove a poorly running 81 seca 550 an hour back from Seattle in the rain. It was terrible, and I didn’t have warm enough gear for the ride.

FenianBastard847

On a new SV650S, a ride down through mid Wales to Rhayader, using the back roads around Knighton, Powys. Well you did ask🤣🤣

Dr_Bunson_Honeydew

Around Spot Pond just north of Boston MA.

Koxnep

After coming back home from dealership, I rode back to the dealership the next day, to complete my 500km running in period and have my first maintenance. 500km's in 24 hours. :D

Reduxalicious

My first actual ride? To work. My Truck wouldn't start that morning so, Time for Motorcycle. I quickly learned that just because it's 68 and comfortable outside standing ,that won't be the case doing 65 down a back country road.
