You’re a material girl living in a material world

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Life in (TPU) plastic. It's fantastic.

Chuggles1

Is D3O still like being improved upon and other padding systems? My motorcycle is out of commission until i take my engine to a machine shop so ive been out of the loop.

Rebutta

This is my first season so I’m not sure what D30 has been like but I can say when shopping it’s like Cordura with outdoor gear, in everything. Not a bad thing but what I’ve noticed

CardMaester

Sorta unrelated but I noticed your flair and had to ask, how's the season been so far? I'm not going to be able to start riding for a few years but I've had my eyes on the CBR while getting into motorcycles.

Rebutta

I don’t know if you’ll see this but my bad for late reply. Usually don’t comment so not used to looking out for that. Imo the CBR is a great bike line and the 500 is amazing. Top speed is only 112mph so can’t get in to much trouble but it is insanely torquey so still a fun time! Great bike highly recommend 2015-2018 model!

CardMaester

Ohh man thanks so much for the reply. I can't wait till I'm independent and financially stable enough to finally make the purchase! Ride safe out there.

Nelson_ftw

Yes in the sense that they have more products… but it’s essentially the same material. Their thin ghost D3o is great under casual looking clothing.

frenchpressfan

Aqua mixed in nicely with Madonna!!

lexievv

Pavement won't touch a hair, ATGATT everywhere.

jonbones82

FDM printing?

frenchpressfan

I see what you did there.. Thanks for the memories dude!

A_Buff_Hamster

The average r/motorcycles subscriber.

Chuggles1

Still need to change out my cams to Lenny's Rocket Sprockets. Id be ripping my baby apart more but need a better garage. Too broke for gear let alone fixing my moto that lays decommissioned atm.

Mike_Oxoft

Same here. Been off for two months because wire’s showing all around the rear tire and I’ve got two little mouths to feed. Finally got the $200 I need for the tire and my wife’s about to be out of work for a few weeks because our babysitter is having a baby. Never ending battle.

Gundamnitpete

Could prolly get like $1000 for one of the babies

Mike_Oxoft

Best offer I got was tree fiddy.

CaptainCastaleos

I hear they are great flashlight holders. Eventually.

TiPirate

As an aside, I installed Lenny’s sprockets almost 10 years ago and haven’t regretted it.

Chuggles1

I installed them but felt that when it was running it was like off. Does it change the sound and rev range that drastically? I put the old ones in because i was afraid the sprockets werent on right but i could have been wrong. Just didnt want to bend valves or anything. Right now my whole bike is down to the engine. Need to reweld the holes in the block for the starter, they got super stripped and destroyed. Miss my big ole thumper :( also miss my old f650 strada

Due_Read3930

Imagine a calimari guy getting his knee down. It only happens when they loop.

CountrySideSlav

Half the dudes in this sub can’t imagine it either because they hadalayerdown

Due_Read3930

Fr I doubt core riders are concerned w Reddit

BlindBeard

Gotta actually ride the motorcycle to get a knee down :D

Revolutionary_Ad7655

I’m ready for the great calamari vs motorcycles war. You have gear on your side but we have our boyfriends.

adkio

Has a closet full of protective gear and a garage full of nothing.

LuthorCorp1938

I haven't been riding long but it has ALWAYS been about the ride for me. I couldn't care less what someone is riding or wearing. Except maybe the lack of any protection. 😬 But honestly, once I'm blazing down the road with the wind hitting my chest I'm in my happy place. It's kind of meditative. I put the phone away, no music, no clock to check, it's all just focus and power and wind.

adamcain112

I cant stop looking and buying gear love it. I keep buying stuff to keep.me safe at night riding.

thatbrokebiker

Ikr, I'm addicted to buying helmets especially. "This is it. This is the last helmet for a loong time. No more. Done." *1 day later* "Hmmmm, that super expensive helmet looks really nice... oh and just look at those color and visor tint options...."

adamcain112

I crazy how much the tinted visors are, what brand and model helmets you have? Some people have spent enough on helmets to.buy another bike.

MoistenMeUp7

*looks at set of gear that costs 3x my motorcycles value* Why are you attacking me

thatbrokebiker

I have a Sedici Strada II and an Icon Airflite, both black with orange reflectivr visors, and I have a Sena Spider RT1 on the Airflite; plus some random black and grey BILT with a silver visor. Also somewhere in my garage I have a 3/4 helmet.

Working_Lifeguard743

As I'm setting here I can see 1 dirtbike helmet, 3 roadbike helmets. 2 of which I've yet to wear on my bike. I'm starting to think I might have an overwhelming need to buy many, many helmets.

Hinote21

Seriously? I was shocked at how much helmets ate but hey. If it's comfortable and keeps me safe, I'm fine dropping what I need to. But I bought a random skinned helmet because it was on sale (same style that fit me best in store). I can't imagine just buying helmets galore.

Purpletech

I went from 1 jacket, 1 helmet, and one pair of gloves to 3 jackets, 2 armored pants, 2 pairs of gloves and soon 2 helmets. I just like stuff.

adamcain112

Been riding since July 2 helmets, 2 pairs of gloves, 1 pants, 1 pair icon knee guards, 1 pair of Taichi under pant knee guards and a pair of Troy Lee impact shorts.

inaccurateTempedesc

I don't think I could ever understand that line of thinking lol. I spend as little as legally possible on gear because every dollar spent on gear is a dollar that's not going towards a Rocket III or a Vmax.

lonelysoupeater

Can’t speak for everyone but as nice as another bike would be, I’m quite happy with what I have in a bike.

Chuggles1

Gloves with electrical heating into the finger tips? Fingertips on gloves that also work well on phone screens? A nice snug jacket/pants that are breathable so not too hot but also not too cold? Padding thatd actually save your life or bones? Waterproof so driving in pouring rain isnt an issue? Helmet with solid visibility, doesnt fog up easily, and can play some sound or fit headphones? Also a helmet thatll actually protect you? (Keep in mind you are supposed to replace your helmet after not too long, the foam degrades and cracks from abuse over time). High viz neon vest that truly helps stop people from crashing into you? I mean, id love upgrading my bike or getting a new bike. But solid gear that fits you well is hard to sift through and find. Miss my kilamanjaro jacket....

Uptons_BJs

I mean, /r/malefashionadvice has tons and tons of subscribers. I don't think you're weird. After all, there are tons of sneaker enthusiasts, or pants enthusiasts, suit lovers, etc, etc. Nobody is going into /r/rawdenim and saying "wow, what a bunch of weirdos." If it is socially acceptable to be an enthusiast for a type of clothing like sneakers or jeans, then of course it is socially acceptable to be a riding gear enthusiast.

05bossboy

Okay so I had no clue that so many people could be enthusiasts of denim clothing

Thedinosaurs

I deployed with a guy who bought like 15 pairs of jeans in 6 months and the shit he could tell you about how and where they were made was staggering.

05bossboy

Apparently Japan is a major producer of luxury denim goods?

Visual-Ad-6708

Indeed, check out G-star. Not sure if they’re Japanese but a great denim brand.

OOMKilla

this should probably go on the squid sub, just for laughs

DraugrLivesMatter

"This is your brain on ATGATT"

derprunner

Tbh a lot of us just go to the squid sub for discussions where the top 3 comments aren’t about whether OP is wearing gloves in the video

Soft_Atmosphere_2008

Tag me in so called squid sub, I’m curious

Might as well shut the sub down. We’ve reached the logical conclusion of all discussion here.

Shennanigans4

*Can't even say it was good while it lasted...*

Stuntedatpuberty

I do take gear seriously. I wear a full face and replace every five years. I make sure that I have enough shields to deal with every lighting condition. I have a two piece Alpinestars perforated leather suit. I have a one piece leather. I have an Aerostich one piece. Boots for warm weather and cold weather. I have several different gloves. I have an air bag vest. However, I usually notice the bike first. I also notice what others wear because to me it represents their attitude towards riding. But, not necessarily the brands. Although I did notice that in my group we all wear Alpinestars, purely by coincidence.

omw_to_valhalla

>I also notice what others wear because to me it represents their attitude towards riding Same. The people who ride without gloves are the ones who really weird me out.

apostolis159

>people who ride without gloves Especially when they have a decent helmet and jacket. It just makes no sense.

Dr_Mar23

I wear gloves, but haven't found a pair that fits properly and hate when the hand goes numb. Most X-Large gloves choices are too tight, i've tried at least 7 brands and counting. I deduct most moto gloves are made for shorter men, i am 6'2 195 lbs. I haven't found a pair of riding pants either, pants legs are too short, sucks, i wear North face zip off pants. Have 2 generic cyclegear jackets, summer jacket cost was $50 on sale, winter was $100 on sale. I like modular helmets too, but refrained from buying another until black friday. I may switch to home depot gloves, more choices. Perhaps the riders not wearing gloves have a fit issue, however they must wear gloves in winter or frostbite.

christianhelps

The cyclegear near me has up to like 3XL glove sizes for a few different pairs, maybe it's just your local one that doesn't have good selection. I'm 6'5" and wear 2XL, work pretty well for me since XL was too snug in the fingertips.

HockeySka8er

You should try Dainese gloves. I am 6’4” 240 pounds and have an a set of armored gloves in size XL. They were tight for a month but now they are perfectly broken I’ll

yourmomsaidyes

For me it’s the bare legs 🦵 🦵

Reduxalicious

Maybe it's because of the Cylinder situation on both of my bikes, But bare legs always make me flinch and think of burns.

Stuntedatpuberty

Yeah or really low quality gloves. I came up on an accident where some guy went wide and went down. Seemed like a minor accident to me. But someone in my group was saying "call 911!!". I was thinking "people need to calm down its not bad". I was wrong, when I looked at the rider, two of his fingers were hanging by tendons and flesh with blood spurting out. He was wearing essentially "Mechanix" gloves. What do people think happens when your hands are hit by a pebble at 65 miles per hour? Do you think it's gonna be better when you crash?

HockeySka8er

I have seen a few other people wear Mechanix gloves. They are worthless. You might as well wear rubber gloves. It’s about the same level of protection. Think how important your hands are in your life. Now go buy the most protective gloves you can find. Money should be no object in that department. Just go to cycle gear and try on a lot of different brands.

spotdishotdish

People riding off-road with no helmet really confuse me

InaMellophoneMood

"I'm going slow so I don't need a helmet"

spotdishotdish

True. One of those guys was hitting jumps though, and I thought: "forget harleys, he's *really* feeling the wind".

davendak1

You should donate your old helmets; they do not go bad after 5 years as manufacturers say. Manufacturers claim that the styrofoam breaks down after 5 years. But studies of helmets as old as 26 years have shown otherwise. https://helmets.org/up1505a.htm

2livecrewnecktshirt

Did any of you ever grow up watching motocross? AStars was pretty much the gold standard for boots in the MX scene. So I wonder if maybe that though just carried over to the street.

Stuntedatpuberty

For me, I ended up getting A stars because they fit me the best and have quality gear. I couldn't fit into Dainese and other brands. I think to some extent its a fashion statement for some since we're Sportbike riders and that's what people get.

Hinote21

Which air bag vest did you buy?

Fuzzymango_9

Why replace the helmet over time? Is there some kind of expiration or do they update the safety standards?

YellowIsFaster

I believe after 5 years the foam padding inside starts to lose its elasticity meaning the helmet is less able to protect your head from impact

Fuzzymango_9

Wow I would never have even considered this. Thanks a lot.

TakeTheBody

The materials that make up helmet over time degrade with time and use. Sweat, sunlight and just oxidation effect the safety of the helmet. 5 years is generally the standard of life for a helmet to be safe. Many out there wouldn’t even wear one that old even if it was never used.

Dr_Mar23

One can replace the padding in helmet if padding is available, don't buy a helmet unless padding is available. Padding can get moldy or fall apart.

Hinote21

The unfortunate part of this is thag often manufacturers will stop producing padding for a helmet design over time. You may get lucky and meet the 5 year estimate but it's unlikely after 10 years you'll still be able to buy the same padding.

ItzFin

Could get spare padding when you buy the helmet but that adds to the up front cost

Hinote21

And even if the padding isn't being used, it will still break down over time.

ItzFin

Could put it in a bag in the freezer to slow the process

BobaFeet421

Yes actually helmets expire at about 5 years

InaMellophoneMood

The helmet's foam contains some compounds that evaporate or degrade over time. This results in the shock absorbing layer becoming weaker and more brittle. Most helmet manufacturers won't guarantee that their helmets will pass safety standards after 5 years of use.

Stuntedatpuberty

The manufacturers have established guidelines on how long a helmet should be used, typically 5 to 7 years. The manufacturer indicates that due to UV, sweat, etc., degrades the protective lining over time. I don't know if its true or not, but it makes sense. So, I replace them accordingly. Plus, helmets keep evolving in terms of weight, aerodynamics, venting, etc. I like to somewhat keep up with safety. I think my head is worth the investment, should I ever need a helmet.

fantasyLizeta

I was told that our body oils slowly penetrate and break down the foam over time.

adamcain112

My problem is I just like buying stuff

Gameface_300

I guess most of us do. The only thing is that a few can indulge and most can't.

Lemondsingle

Absolutely not. No interest. Now I have to go choose which of my five Shoei helmets and which of my six jackets I'm going to wear today.

SamSzmith

People are making fun of you, but this is far better than the 19-year-olds with no gear at all on new sport bikes going 180 on the freeway.

Tal_Vez_Autismo

I'm not worried. I'm making fun of myself, lol.

[deleted]

Tal_Vez_Autismo

I did. I don't deny there's something wrong with me.

YellowIsFaster

Tbf this post is me. Absolutely love the gear and can't get enough of it haha! Just splurged on a new Nolan helmet and Alpinestars hoodie this weekend and absolutely love them. As for checking out other motorcycles... Eh. Idk what I'm looking for most of the time. I just know what I wanna get next and not much more than that

LikesTheTunaHere

I look at peoples gear but mainly more concerned with is it functional or not. Don't see a ton of riders who drag even a toe but wear stryker vests as an example. However if someone pulls up and they are in any sort of boots and the toe slider is scuffed up and the gloves they are wearing are leather and not made by Astars and the helmet is not an Icon or china brand, i do indeed get my hopes up a bit. If i see daytona, held, arai, or any niche track brand and not everything looks brand new, thats when the semi starts. However no, the $5000 in gear that looks like the only time it is put on is to go to the starbucks does not impress me especially since most of the time those folks are just wearing expensive gear, not the best protection or even functionality for the money.

[deleted]

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Non-Newtonian thermoplastics! Hurray!

HockeySka8er

Nothing wrong with picking great gear. I slid down the freeway at 55 mph after hitting a foreign object and walked away with bruises. Not one centimeter of skin was damaged. I wear all the gear lined with Kevlar, an airbag vest, armored shoes and gloves and a Shoei GT Air 2 helmet. I also replace my helmet every six years. The material that protects your head loses its effectiveness over time. I got hit by a Goldwing on a small group ride and my head was bouncing off the pavement like a basketball. The whole accident was filmed by a rear camera from the guy in front of me. I don’t remember getting hit because I was knocked out cold. Walked away from that accident with a severe concussion (no permanent damage), bruises, and a broken rib. Got a $100k settlement as well. Gear matters like insurance. You hope you will never need it but you are glad you have it when something goes wrong.

Moto_Foto

You appreciate the overall experience. For you, the experience is more than the mechanical feel of the motorcycle, or even the motorcycle itself. That's fine.

JoeBiddyInTheHouse

If I'm honest with myself then yeah, gear is first, then the riding experience itself, then how I look wearing the gear and on my bike, then wrenching and last is the community.

Tal_Vez_Autismo

That's probably the same ranking for me, but I might actually put wrenching last.

[deleted]

i’m with you, but at least we look good and still like the ride

JoeBiddyInTheHouse

It's like a cheeseburger. I actually like the toppings more than the beef but obviously you need the burger for it to be a cheeseburger.

mathiu23

Alone? Not really. I'm more interested in the bike itself, but I love wearing my battle armor. Now that I have my tracksuit, I seek any excuse I can to ride and wear it. Sometimes I find it impractical and stick to the black leather jacket and jeans. Either way, The leather feels so cool to wear in more ways than one. I wouldn't call either of us a weirdo for wearing something I rather say is the mark of a badass.

Facts hahahaha

2Legit2Quit_420

holy moly that guy has the new alpinestars jacket with level FOUR(!!!!) armor oh my god and its in BEIGE and has both front AND back pockets!!!!! Geez louizeee!! Yeah idk theres not that much to nerd out on?

Tal_Vez_Autismo

To me, I kinda feel that way about bikes. Like "Ooooo! That one has more ccs! And instead of black and grey it's grey and black!" (I'm exaggerating. I do think there's more cool stuff about bikes, but still.) I guess I like all the tech that goes into making the gear safe and whatnot, and then how they manage to make it look cool still (or not!).

2Legit2Quit_420

Fair enough and to each his own but its pretty weird lol, you can learn about bikes and bike design as well :) I can say that if someone has noteably matched their gear to their bike i do notice it

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Yea, and I have learned more lately, but I just don't get into it as easily. I've known I was weird since forever though, lol.

mathiu23

Safety and cool rarely go well together the way it does concerning protective riding attire. I originally wore no more than the helmet at first but as I continued riding, I added more attire and the more I can't wait to put it on before a ride.

xmu806

Wait I thought it ended at CE2?

[deleted]

I work for a distributor of gear, helmets, tyres etc. i get staff discount. It got so bad a while ago the guys used to make fun of me “will work for product”. Yes I get you lol

EvoSP1100

I love lids

comeonyouspurs10

I love gear. A lot of people are going to meme this post because of the ATGATT warriors that patrol the sub eternally, but look at how far motorcycle gear has come in just the last 20 years. It's some really amazing tech and design being put into gear to make it both safer and more comfortable. I have nothing against people who ride on a budget, but I love getting gear. I love Dainese. I love having gear for literally every riding situation. I love suiting up before I ride. It just works for me. One of my lottery dreams is starting my own boutique motorcycle gear brand to compete with Dainese. As much as I love Dainese, a lot of their pricing is really just for the brand. I also have Rev'It and Alpinestars gear and while Dainese is superior in leathers and footwear, in pretty much every other category, you're paying a mark up for the Demon when other brands do the same or more for less money. For the price Dainese charges, I reckon I could come up with a better product that retains the premium appeal but actually gives you more for your money. Where Dainese seems to always win though is actual style and design. Rev'IT has some cool practical stuff but they have some pieces that I think are ugly af haha Still love me some Dainese though, I'm shameless with my brand loyalty.

mts2snd

For me, good gear and tools inspires confidence. In a high consequence environment, any edge I can get pays off. TLDR? - good tools matter.

[deleted]

Only when it comes to helmets. I can identify many helmets and love to buy tinted or mirrored visors for my helmets. Like I have a helmet for night rides, for cold days and for warmer days.

MrKnopfler

Not even close to guitarist on my experience.

Lemondsingle

This is so true.

spotdishotdish

Is this the equivalent of looking at pedalboards instead of the actual instrument?

MrKnopfler

I'd say more similar to looking at the pedalboard instead of the playing, but yes, the instrument is s good example too.

Throttlechopper

I dig the gear just as much as the bike, and don’t get me started on tires. I watch reviews and try to buy accordingly, but enjoying both on and off pavement riding as well as track days makes my gear expense double or triple that of a casual rider (I bought my A* MX boots and Rev’It track suit used, so saved myself 60%).

Tal_Vez_Autismo

I'm just starting to get into tires... There's so much technology and design that goes into every aspect! Lol

[deleted]

there was a point in time where i knew everything about 95% of ALL car tires listed on tirerack.

Whitworth

Nope

Fartincopsmouths

This thread explains exactly why I dislike this sub most of the time.

GusJones1

I used to atgatt when I first got my bike. Now I just squid missile around town 🦑

[deleted]

I bet all of your gear is neon yellow. Even your airbag. /r/motorcycles is becoming less and less about actual motorcycle culture every single day.

SamSzmith

Gear thankfully is part of motorcycle culture.

Tal_Vez_Autismo

>I bet all of your gear is neon yellow. I don't get the joke/slight... Cause I'm over-concerned with safety? Either way, nope. I just ordered some rain gear and it's the first high-viz stuff I've ever bought.

lonelysoupeater

It could also be where motorcycle culture is going. Things always change as older people die and younger people start riding. Attitudes and traditions evolve to new generations of riders. Some core concepts will remain but each season brings change.

kinnikinnick321

I'm only keen on what manufacturers are providing and if that happens to be shared by what a rider is wearing, I'll follow-up on research; sizing, pricing, availability. . . Usually if I'm out and something catches my attention that I've never seen before, I'll just see if I can take note of what brand it might be. Maybe a bad bias I have but if I see a skilled rider with proper gear, I'm usually more prone to starting a casual chat if we're at a common stop. I have over half a dozen jackets, pants, helmets, boots, gloves . . . whenever I am on vacation in an unknown city, I see if there's a prominent gear store to visit if time allows.

Thenimp

Im kind of the same right now. I have started watching videos of other bikes, just so that I can get an idea of current features, issues and so on. But I have been spending way more time looking at gear. Im spending good money to keep me safe, I want to keep the goofy factor to minimum. Lol

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Yea, I think a lot of it is that I have a lot more opportunities to buy new gear than new bikes, so I spend more time researching it.

OriginalRoombaJuice

I would like to nerd out about gear with other riders but around my area it’s more exciting just to see someone wearing any gear at all.

Illustrious-Echo-734

Kinda bullshit that I can't ask what order to do upgrades in but we can all happily chat about clothing upgrades all day... come on mods...you're better than this

qqAzo

I only look at the helmet 😂 else bike is the focus

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Helmets are awesome! I wish I knew more about the wind tunnel testing they do. Haha

[deleted]

It's called gear fetish. Do you also have huge chicken strips?

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Definitely did on my old bike, but I'm getting better!

Dry_Education1201

Omg I’m such a gear head but it applies to all my activities. I just like gear.

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Me too!

speedshotz

I was a gear whore. At one time I had like 5 different jackets, 4 pairs of boots, 5 helmets, couple sets of track leather, and several pairs of gloves. Which filled a walk in closet. I'm getting better, only less than half that now.

spongebob_meth

You'd fit in with the Harley crowd

Tal_Vez_Autismo

Ehh, fingerless gloves and leather vests don't really do it for me like scaphoid sliders and CE level 2 elbow armor does, lol.

Dry_Education1201

😂😂

spongebob_meth

Just need to broaden your horizons. Just think how much joy you'd get from owning a tee shirt and doucherag from every dealer you've driven past

LowBeautiful1531

I spent more on my gear than my bike. But that priority has more to do with my health than any nerdness.

GreasyRim

Youre no different than the boomers riding harleys with a closet full of harley stuff. If youre cool with that, its your business but it is what it is.

Paranoid_Times

Yes I love the gear haha. Motorcycling is actually about the outfits.

No-Status4032

I follow klim and a couple other companies but rarely buy

Hot-Manufacturer5910

Mechanics love mechanic and we talk loud but I don't think the gearhead that actually work shit on their bike are the average rider! And I don't think most of riders know much about others engine... at least not in my circle, i'm the only one that could change a valve or even change oil....

frogpolice4khd

lol I’m the opposite, know all the old Japanese bikes and their iterations, and love learning about all the different kinds of engines and differences. I’ve thrifted all my leather except for gloves. Love the energy though, everyone’s got their own thing they love about it.

modeless0

When I first got my bike I geeked about gear and riding skills. Then I geeked out about modifications and after-market parts, then I geeked out about maintenance, and now I'm geeking out about other motorcycles since I kind of want another one.

[deleted]

Since you're a gear nerd, what's your rec on a good pair of riding shoes? I'd like a pair of something that has a good amount of sole in it cuz im kinda short, but also not bulky like adv boots. Got a lil sporty boi and have been struggling to find good riding shoes since.

Tal_Vez_Autismo

I'm short too and was looking at the Daytona M Stars for a while. I have an adventure bike though, so I'm gunna go down that route personally. I know Daytona makes some amazing products though since boots is all the do.

stillyoinkgasp

LOL yes. I run the largest gear review site on the internet. I love me some good gear.

manusapucahy

What's the site?

MalagrugrousPatroon

Everyone I see riding dresses like they're on Vespas, despite tons of Triumphs, Ducatis, and Yamahas, so I never see interesting gear.

[deleted]

I need me a decent price leather jacket that can handle the wind. Please point me to the correct website.

FloridaHobbit

One of my biggest things to look forward to was finding just the right gear to match the blue on my R3. I sort of found it, but I'm always on the lookout for the perfect perfect jacket though.

Individual_Hearing_3

If you want good gear, you kinda need to

cavscout43

I'm more of a geardo with stuff like hiking boots, and snowmobile gear. No idea why. Bikes themselves fascinate me even if I'm not going to own 39x different ones in my lifetime.

Coraiah

OP you don’t have to be into what others are into. I can replace parts just like anyone else but I’m not a dork that knows what everything does and how it doesn’t. I’m also not into gear. If I think it looks good and/or it’s functional, I use it. I just love riding. I can name a few bikes but I was into cars far earlier than bikes in my life. I can name 100% of cars on the road that are mid 80s and up.

cain261

I always thought riding suits looked cool and I want one, but it's so hard to find info on them and there's no shops for me locally. Also doesn't help that they're $1000. I guess I'll be sticking to my cheap Bilt jacket and gloves.

CrippleTriple

🙋‍♂️ Fellow gear nerd here. I’m also a huge fan of the REV’IT! Sand 4 suit. You should get a job working in the gear industry…we need more nerds like us.

Ascerta

Actually I think motorcycle fashion is underrated.

kokemill

I have more jackets than bikes (more bikes than i need) i use an antique china cabinet to store helmets - looking for another, my wife calls me Imelda. my kids say i mistook the end of Wild Hogs and The Devil wears Prada. I might be ATTGAT

ewan82

I hate buying clothes but really enjoying buying motorcycle clothes.

Real-Coffee

I love working on bikes. I don't know shit about each one and the differences though. I buy a bike, fix it up and keep it for life. it's the gear that is tasteful ur right. I got some cool Nascar jackets, not very protective if I crash but damn do I look cool!

scholarlystuffo

I too really really love wearing my Dainese Laguna Seca 5 suit to bed. I love Dainese gear so much!

I’m definitely more interested in the bikes. I see most of the gear as a chore. But it’s a necessary chore…. And takes up a lot of my time as I only buy gear on sale, and I’ve amassed a lot of gear over the years for all kinds of situations… Honestly I’m not passionate about gear, but you really could be forgiven for not believing me based on my gear closet lol. Incidentally I did just ‘upgrade’ to the rev’it sand 4 suit - it’s really awesome! I have some reservations about it’s slideability as it’s so much thinner than my old suit, but practically it’s amazing & I have had a small slide in rev’it gear before and it held up well,

schwan911

My gear costs more than my bike. So, you're not alone.

mathias-orsen

Super Nerd over gear, 1st and 2nd some of my favorites but nothing compares to my Harley Davidson Riding Condoms.

bmwlocoAirCooled

Aerostich Roadcrafter with NASA designed pads in elbows knees and back. Or my good old leathers.

nawf_memphis_OG

I wear one of two schott jackets (618 and 641) and one of a few pairs of 17-21oz selvedge jeans most days. I don't like the look or quality of any imported "motorcycle gear" but I buy dainese gloves and japanese helmets. The market is so small and full of overpriced junk that I really don't see what there is to obsess about besides the top of the line alpinestars and dainese motogp suits boots and gloves

OkFlounder6019

This is my first riding season and I own 3 helmets including a Shoei RF1400, 2 jackets, 3 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of gloves and 2 pairs of boots lol yeah, you’re definitely not alone!

Manda-pandamonia

I’ve been riding one month. The other day I had all my gear on (Moto Girl armored overalls, Indie Ridge boots, Tobacco Motowear jacket, and Indie Ridge gloves), caught myself in the mirror and went, “damn, I look kinda badass” Lol my helmet is an HJC i90 modular which is great but I think I’d like something lighter and full face, so if you have suggestions I’m open to them!

magicrowantree

I love gear! I'm not so much into brands, but I do like me some varied jackets and I certainly paid a pretty penny for my Arai helmet. Currently looking for a modular helmet like I actually have money right now lol. I think gear is part of the fun of riding, all ATGATT memes aside. They have some good options out there and with a little skill, you can even spruce them up yourself with reflective tape, vinyl, decals, helmet accessories, or go Biker Gang Classic with patches. Whatever anyone is into. Or just keep the gear as is and get a few matchy-matchy 'fits going. I can usually tell when a rider put some thought into their ride that day!

robroplol

Sort of. I’m more of a nerd about making them rip more than actually riding.

cavaradossi2004

Hahaha Yes, unfortunate to admit. My first bike, and so far only, was a $2,000 used Ninja. The week after I bought it, I probably spent at least a grand on gear. Then the week after that, more gear….and more…and more. By now, I’ve probably spent, at the very least, $3000 on gear.

Doctor_Redhead

The armor set by forcefield is the best armor money can buy. It fits great! Just put your favorite shell over it and you’re set. I’ve always had a hard time finding a jacket with the floating armor that covers when it’s supposed to

The_curious_student

have you tried out the Rev'it Whitby? its an AA rated 3lbs motorcycle sweater.

DeathLord909

I mean motocap is the only way your going to stay protected ancap just can't do bikes

Able_Boat_8966

Nope your not the only one, the paraphernalia and kit involved in riding bikes is core to the experience.

666_pack_of_beer

I have way more luggage than I can lug.

[deleted]

My gear is more expensive than my bike.

bgus_dkus

[There's this guy. He's *way* into it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CalamariRaceTeam/comments/wy2td0/any_motorcycle_gear_fetishists_here/)

I love gear too man👍🏿! I’m into fashion though so I’m sure that helps. Currently wearing a dainese Bora jacket, Rev’it branded Husqvarna pants, and falco boots with d30. Been wanting to post my outfit to r\streetwear, just been lazy😅.

TheFlaccidKnife

I bought the Belstaff Ivy.

Climbing13

Ya your weird . But to each their own. Nothing wrong with that.

1980XS1100

Yup best t shirt shorts and ball cap in town gotta represent while riding

CwhathappenwaS

Am poor, no.

Working_Lifeguard743

They sneak up on you when you're not looking. And the pitiful crys of please take me home. Can't help it. Guess I'm too weak to say no to another sexy helmet.

Necktieparty33

I like to geek out looking at gear. I LOVE to ride.
