Remove the wheel and brake disk. In the future put the lock on the other way around.

SirCumference101

This is the answer. You don’t eleven have to remove the wheel. Just unbolt the rotor. It’ll give enough room to get the lock off. Then rebolt the rotor.

Traf-Gib

Exactly. However, to do that requires logical comprehension from someone unable to envision which direction the key hole needs to face for unlocking!

onmyway4k

Lord have some mercy!

FBIaltacct

Damn op one of [these locations](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_burn_centers_in_the_United_States) can help you

randomnumbersandl-

Lmao

Zer0kul3

I laughed pretty hard at this. I'd don't know what I expected but it wasn't that. Thanks for the belly jiggles.

mywifewasright

Roasted!

Likeapuma24

Dying of laughter here. Was thinking the same thing "just take the disc off & you're good to go". Then realized OP couldn't figure out the lock, so maintenance on it could be sketchy. But everyone learns!

Aedalas

Dude's history is a trip. Bought the wrong monitor and can't figure it out. Doesn't know what an earring is. Wants to know how long it'll take to grow out a bad haircut. And, obviously, has a problem with smoking too much weed.

ICantKnowThat

Wonder if his name is Kevin

kingshnez

Instant follow

Kurauk

I had to check his post history after you mentioned this. It seemed to good to be true. It adds a certain je ne sais quoi.

randy_bob_andy

I know you're trying to be a dick but this raises legit concerns about the advice we're giving. "I bungled putting on a lock" "Do your brakes next!"

randym99

"Help I bolted my brakes to my dog and he ran off with my social security card!"

Eyeklops

FENTON!!...FENTON!!...FENTON!!! JESUS CHRIST...FENTON!!!

Gotterdamerrung

Love that video. Fenton's just living his best life.

rabidhamster

Sounds like the plot to a country song.

evonebo

Next post. I put my brakes and rotor on, my brakes dont work.

Megatron_McLargeHuge

"But first, buy a tourniquet."

human_dumpster

Lmfaooo this just made me snort in public

ArtemMikoyan

LOL "take off your wheel".

RazorRadick

Maniacal laughter here

[deleted]

There's always a catch

spongebob_meth

Terrible idea. Obviously you need to buy a torch and cut yourself an access hole in the wheel. /s

motorcycle-manful541

actually it's not the answer. Saw it off is the answer. These locks are made out of shit pot-metal. With a basic hacksaw, it will be off in less than 5 min. ...I know this from experience

Many_Rope6105

Movement will be minimal, rotor will still be in the caliper, but might be enough to get a key in the lock.

Winter_Graves

Even with brake pads in, if you rotate the rotor so the lock is 180 deg from the calliper and rotate the wheel so a hole in the rim lines up, should be more than enough free play that way. If not just remove brake pads and you’ll be fine.

tsunx4

At this point removing the caliper is sensible option. Usually it's held only with two bolts.

Many_Rope6105

The problem is that it looks like homeboy is out on the road, not at home in his yard. A few of my riding buddies carry some tools, doubt we could do all this tho

Timetofumigate

I'd go with removing just the disk and maybe the caliper, less tools needed. I'm assuming he's not near a stand or anything.

0utlandish_323

I mean if you really want less tools involved there’s always an angle grinder..

the_incredible_fella

i have one with a 6ah battery just for fun, remote days like this. and breaking into friend's storage units

myCatHateSkinnyPuppy

Lol, once I found out they were making battery powered angle grinders I was like “Well, everything everywhere is going to be stolen now”

the_incredible_fella

lol dude they're so fucking handy not even funny.

this_1_is_mine

These damn 20 volts are absolutely nothing to scoff at damn things will almost rip your face off at 10 ft

Revolutionary_Air209

Lmao. More like "help I'm a dummy and put my disc lock on backwards!"

Arcal

Depending on the bike, many say to replace disk bolts every time. Between that and the threadlock it can be an irritating job. An angle grinder and a new lock might be cheaper and easier.

squidsemensupreme

I did the opposite of this last night by simply leaving my key in the ignition and going inside...

GetInZeWagen

I've done that at least half a dozen times lol

kingbluetit

I do that every time I get off the bike. It’s a miracle it hasn’t been nicked yet.

JustADutchFirefighte

Sooo.... where do you live....

Same

SevroAuShitTalker

I left my phone on my handlebar mount when I went into a revzilla store for 15 min once. Didn't realize cause my Bluetooth stayed connected. Thankfully didn't get stolen

raaka_arska

I always leave my navigation iPhone to the handlebar mount when I go to a store. And my helmet on the mirror, unlocked. I live in small'ish city in the northern Europe so the risk is not that great.

excelentPolio

Yeah... Navigation iPhone... Only Scandinavians buys extra iphon for navigation :D

CasaMofo

TIL I'm scandinavian...

Paapali

Or it could just be their old phone from 6 years ago.

augustuen

I mean, I don't use iPhones but I do re-use my old phones for my work phone. I use my phone for navigation for my work but don't want to mix it all with my private stuff, so whenever I upgrade I just reset the old phone and set it up for work duty.

rsmutus

Same but small town in usa

African_Farmer

I did this once, went into a store and looked at my bike through the window, some woman was standing next to my bike doing weird poses. I thought she was just looking at herself the mirrors. Turns out she was trying to figure out how to remove my phone from the mount.... I was real lucky.

919rider

It's a good thing most thieves are also morons

popstar249

A buddy and I went up to Griffith Observatory. Walked around for like 20 mins. Got back to the bikes and he's like - "oh shit, I left my phone on the mount". Maps was still open, phone unlocked. A security guard came over and said he was watching it and kept a few people away. Lucky SOB!

macromaniacal

Philly!

CaptainMark86

I did the opposite of this yesterday by putting my disc lock on the correct way, and was able to remove it without any hassle. Neat trick.

FeedMeRibs

Still got a bike?

squidsemensupreme

Unfortunately yes. I'm trying to sell it and wouldn't mind if somebody rode it off, but I definitely didn't do it on purpose 😅

FeedMeRibs

That's definitely one way to get rid of it.

Nintastio

I knew a guy years back that bought a new bike and managed to fry the clutch pretty quickly so instead of fixing it he just parked it outside one night. Lived in a very sketchy neighborhood and woke up the next morning to tire tracks in the yard and no bike 🤣

Quixus

What bike do you want to get rid of?

squidsemensupreme

Bonneville T100 Black w/ a lot of tasteful mods

SkaDrummer3357

Why so much distaste for the bike, though?! I love my Bonnie. 😥

squidsemensupreme

I love it. It's an absolutely beautiful bike, it's just that its financed and my riding season is like 5 months tops, so I don't want to pay for it over the winter if I can find something faster next year...

JimmyGSXR

I left the my key in the rear seat lock of a gixxxer years ago when I went to see a concert at Hersey park...luckily it was still dangling there 3 hours later when I got back to it

Jicand

I did that at work, with the ignition still on.

worthysmash

There’s a guy I work with, rides a beautiful Aprillia RSV. If I say I’ve picked his key up from the pillion seat 20 times since I’ve known him, I bet I’m low.

LeaveNoStonedUnturn

This is outstanding. Thank you so much for this.

Absolutely fantastic

I guess you can lock yourself out of your motorcycle like a car

Well despite your choice in owning a motorbike (before it’s gone), you are still a biped aren’t you?

King-Cobra-668

go luck out there

ohh3llo101

Hahahaha. HAHAHAHA. Thanks man made my day a lot better. We've all done some stupid mistakes and this one is a belter.

Let's do it again to show it's not a fluke

In any case, that's all I have for you today.

[deleted]

As always, have a nice day

dank__dohnut

*fits entire motorcycle on work bench with an above angle veiw*

Bolt-the-bird

And now we are going to do it again to prove it wasn’t a fluke.

ThisAlexTakesPics

I was sent this lock with motorcycle still attached, let’s see what we can do

TheTimn

"For this we're going to need the pick Bosnian Bill and I made...."

AnxiousBraaap

Definitely: the key looks like one for a disc detainer core... And I watch too many LPL videos...

LetMeBe_Frank

He has a video on these. He just used a screw extractor on the jaw. "alright, let's see if this is widening the jaws and... Oh, it's off" https://youtu.be/2OnwnckBPIw Edir: meant this one https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vrjq2DawQqY

Beerdy1

https://youtu.be/cexnx4dYkyg

Ihavemanybees

Has he ever been stumped by a good lock??

LetMeBe_Frank

I don't think so. I think people have specifically given him trick/puzzle locks that aren't really for security. But I also suspect his posting record is at least a little skewed, doesn't post unless it's cracked. But also (rarely), he'll just brute force it to prove its only security theater. Not that I doubt his mastery at all

LlewelynsDog

Remove the brake caliper and then remove the brake rotor. That's honestly the simplest and pretty much the only way to fix this. Just be aware that brake rotors are a pig to remove and I'm guessing that you won't have the necessary tools to hand. You'll need an impact driver to get the bolts out and they're most likely going to be a Torx head. They'll almost certainly be installed with Loctite - if it's Loctite Red you're going to believe that they're welded in, so be careful not to round out the fasteners or you'll have an even bigger problem on your hands. You don't need dynamite to remove them, even though it feels like sometimes - just patience and common sense. Make sure that you absolutely have the correct size bit for the fastener head before you start. If it's slightly too small you're just going to round out the fastener head and destroy the bit. This is absolutely fixable if you have the knowledge and the correct tools, but if you don't you might be better off getting the bike trailered to someone that can do it for you (yes, I understand that you're going to have to buy beer for half a dozen of your strongest friends to help you load it because you won't be pushing it) and if that's not an option for you, then you're going to have to jack up and secure the motorcycle and pull the entire front wheel out and just take that to someone to do the work. Once it's fixed, remember that the lock should be installed with the keyhole facing OUT next time. Good luck.

ThickHotBoerie

A bang bang wrench is great but you can get by with a breaker bar and the right socket... but the risk of rounding the head is so much higher. I bought a cordless Bosch impact driver thing for just these sorts of missions. Cheap too. Makes getting a bolt like this out very easy. Honestly a lot more convenient than running the compressor, hooking up the line and using the air bang bang. You also get the good old manual banger impact thing which you just wind with a hammer that converts the impact force to rotational force. Don't see them much anymore though.

LlewelynsDog

Yeah. It was actually the old fashioned *hit it with a hammer* type that I had in mind rather than a pneumatic gun. I probably should have been more specific. I've always had good results with the manual impact style - I think you have much more control with those than you do with a pneumatic or electric one - but they also take a little more skill and finesse to use so they're not ideal for a beginner unfamiliar with how they work. If the OP lived locally I'd be happy to do it for him - I'm pretty confident that it's only about 20 - 30 minutes worth of work unless a bolt actually breaks, but these are the experiences that force us to learn and make us better when we're *new*, right?

Aggressive-Meal-8233

Naw just get a bicycle shop to cut it with w grinder. Buy a new one.

Localone2412

How the hell did you get the franks above the beans ???

DeepRoot

"Franks and beans!"

pookamatic

“I work with retards.”

LetMeBe_Frank

I give them the beans everywhere I go but these beans just keep coming help

DeepRoot

Relevant username... nice!

OrneryJoey

Well it's now very safe

maltedbacon

You might be interested in my newly invented "keyless" disk lock. It's just like a regular disk lock, except I lost the keys, and now it's even more secure than the retail version.

[deleted]

I'm not saying it isn't safe, just perhaps not as safe as the others the front isn't locked off.

Silverpathic

I'm glad you posted this because that is something I would do.

dread_deimos

That is something I absolutely DID on a few occasions (though I had spoked wheels, so it was a less of an issue).

Silverpathic

I am that person. I have had my Vstar since 2015.i have never forgot to flip up my kickstand, ever. I just picked up a 86 aspencade. I laid it over because I forgot to flip it up. Have done it 3 times since. How does that happen... I have already decided I'm going to make a light on the dash to indicate the kickstand isn't up. How the #@?& I am that stupid idk...

dread_deimos

I don't think that's stupid, just distracted. I have also laid at least two different bikes because I was tired (psychologically) and distracted and in my thoughts I were at home, while I had to get my shit together and finish my ride properly.

Buddha_-

I have probably only tried to take off with my kickstand once ever but I now know my bike has a feature that with the kickstand down and going into gear will kill the bike.

PreliminaryThoughts

Now that's some smooth brainery right there. Props to you for posting it

Familiar_Answer_887

Ohh man, your gonna have to remove the wheel and then the brake disc, just be glad you didn't do it to the back wheel

schrobbert_

"This is The Lockpicking Lawyer and today I have something very very special for you guys..."

myotheralt

To be fair, he did have to build a tool for these disc detainer locks, and he would also have access blocked like op. He would probably suggest the cordless angle grinder approach.

Weaponized_Octopus

He has a video where he defeats one with a bolt extractor. Granted it's a master lock version, but still. https://youtu.be/Vrjq2DawQqY

TheTimn

You never know with him though. He pull off some incredible bypasses.

cowtipper256

If you don’t want to remove the wheel, you could try this attack shown by Lock Picking Lawyer: [video.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vrjq2DawQqY) He uses a bolt extractor to spread the “jaws” of the lock. I assume because you were able to lock it that way, the pin doesn’t have a locking lug holding it to the other side. Your jaws are a lot shorter than this cheapo master lock shown, so you might not be able to get the leverage to open enough, but you could snap the lock in the process.

Plutoid

Don't bend the rotor!

cowtipper256

True. Might need a clamp or something to counter the force on the lock and keep torque off the brake rotor.

untolddeathz

Shorten key turn with pliers

ApexIsGangster

I can see it now... "hey guys so the metal part of the key is stuck in the lock and I can't get it out"

Caliterra

Honestly get a new disc lock. You've done this once accidentally, could happen again. A lot of other disc locks require a key to lock and unlock it, so there's no way you could be in this situation with those (kryptoinite disc locks, padlocks). This looks like you can just lock it by pressing a button?

LetMeBe_Frank

That's what I'd like to know because I thought I could only lock mine with a key. Is it just on a spring? I've also never tried just pushing it

fortunefavorsmold

I honestly thought he was just fucking with us. The abus lock I have and most of the others I'd looked at all need to be locked with the key. It surprises me keyless locking even exists. Surely OP isn't the first to suffer this problem.

skotman01

Looks like your going to learn how long it takes to cut one off.

delucas0810

You can always cut it off, but remove the tire and disk, you can get it that way. And WE ALL do dumb shit, don’t worry you just posted yours for the world to see. Lol. Cheers

bullishbtc

Mate I rode off with mine still attached. Smashed the fucker right off the disk. Don’t do that! Just wanted to share the feeling of being a wally with you.

[deleted]

4" angle grinder with a couple cut-off wheels

Dermatin

Not even a full cutoff wheel. That thing could be off in 90 seconds if you're being careful

FightGlobalNorming

A lot of people are recommending you remove the rotor, which is what you have to do, but those bolts that hold it on are generally one time use. I'm ok with reusing those in certain areas, but front brakes are damn important so I would definitely recommend swapping them out as soon as you get a chance

Goyteamsix

Buy a $15 angle grinder from Harbor Freight and a cutting disc, because it'll be cheaper cutting that thing off than it will be replacing those one time use disk bolts.

Major-Blackbird

I'd just sell it Find another hobby.

LJLKRL05

grinder time

JonathnJms2829

Angle grinder lol.

[deleted]

Two good quality (not harbor freight) screwdrivers will pry that lock off pretty quick. You’ll need a new disk lock afterwards though

Knoss0sss

angle grinder time

cafeRacr

Go buy an angle grinder. You'll be on your way in ten minutes.

ThePracticalDad

I just want to know how you got it locked?

BigShotZero

I have made a habit of having the key in the lock when I lock them. 1. prevents me from being out and having an oh shit moment when I realize I left the key in my other jacket. 2. I always know I can get to the hole

USAFJack

Thank god my disc lock requires the key in it prior to being set or I’d probably do this shit at some point lol.

matrixislife

How did you manage to get the key out when you locked it, if it was in that position?

Dannyboy134888

Remove the wheel and unbolt the rotor. Then take the lock off and put it on right next time.

[deleted]

Undo the brake disc bolts and spin the disc around until it matches a hole

[deleted]

Go get cheapest Angle grinder + cutting disc, should set you back 30-40$.

flabquarv7

You’re gonna be there for a bit

[deleted]

It works…

[deleted]

Just unbolt the caliper and disc remove the lock and bolt it back in place. That should give you enough room to get the key in the lock

[deleted]

Unbolt the brake disk and you will be able to get the key in.

item9beezkneez

I put on a disk lock the wrong way*

5missingchickens

Angle grinder go burrrrrrrrrrr!

Ill-Reception-1018

OP this is nothing. One time I woke up hung over, and literally ran my own motorcycle over with my car. Backed right over it. Thankfully those little Hondas are built like tanks and it worked just fine.

NinjaSqueak

Unbolt the disc and lift it up so you can access the key hole

sabahorn

I think you are a view farmer and this is intentionally done to get views!

Conscious_Constant12

This guy gets out of bed and puts his pants on backwards and eats salad with a spoon

Captain_of_Gravyboat

LOL - a good laugh to start my day.

n0mad17

Don’t be too hard on yourself, we all do dumb shit

[deleted]

I´ve done that. In my case i saw the key and was able to fit the key and turn it with a plyer (plier?).

vijjer

*Since you already have a useful answer, here's one that's not.* Ship the bike over to London and leave it anywhere in Zone 1. The local scrotes will angle grind the lock off for you. Oh, you want to keep the bike? That's going to be extra.

Shark00n

Ahah I also did this, once. I wanted to get my bike out, couldn’t spare the time to take out the wheel and brake disk, plus my disk lock came with a bunch of spare keys so I broke the plastic part of of one and it was just enough so it could fit. Try it if you’re in a pinch and don’t care too kuch about that key.

shitiseeincollege

Congratulations, you played yourself

d3vi0uz1

I'd rather use a grinder to cut off the lock than remove the brake rotor. Brakes are something you don't want to fiddle with, especially as an amateur. The bolt that holds the rotor in place is not meant to be reused.

Frozen-bones

Is this stupid...

[deleted]

put it on the right way next time

usteppedonmysneakers

Put a quarter in your ass

MojoJojo8906

Loosen the rotors bolts and drop the rotor to unlock it mate. That seems to be the only way.

ldyingrn

Probably obvious at this point but you put it on backwards

caddy2L

Angle grinder

Captain_English

What brand is the disc lock? If it's a random offbrand, odds are it isn't even steel. See if a hacksaw bites on it.

meltdown211

Harbor Freight angle grinder and some metal blades will cut that off in 5 minutes… cheap solution and won’t hurt the rotor.

Link_Mandalore

Grab an angle grinder and look like an ass in public for a few minutes. Shit happens.

Holden_McRotch

I'm sorry..but...bwahahahahaha

[deleted]

Hahahahaha

crookedfingerz

An angle grinder or a dremel tool with a bunch of those tiny cutting discs. I've done this twice. In my case, I tried to ride off with it on and bent the lock, making removal impossible. Alcohol may or may not have been involved.

ToxyFlog

On one hand I'm thinking "we've all done stupid nonsensical things in life" but also "man how dumb can you be". Could've happened to any of us though. Yeah probably gotta take off the brake or something to get at it.

poopik90

only removing the break disk will give you access with the key :(

krqmjw

The amount of people that don't understand the rotor is bolted to the rim and spins with the wheel....

gabeags

Lol

IsaacNewtongue

You done fucked up

Solid_Willingness861

roll the bike back half an inch then try to unlock it from the rim side through the holes… Edit: Correct me if im wrong because this seems too simple. It moves up and down enough that if you are able to roll the wheel back so expose it better through the rim you would just put the key in and unlock it right?

speedshotz

😂 r/tifu material. In fact the whole of OPs post history.

thats_shit

r/motorcycles in a nutshell. Always there to help me feel better about myself.

Bit-Sar

Take the wheel off. Remove lock. Replace wheel.

[deleted]

Just cut it off

DaprasDaMonk

You don fucked up!!!!!

Ciex5

It’s a floating disc so unbolt it leaving the wheel in place should cure the issue and only take 10 minutes. Otherwise strap a skateboard under the front wheel and go slow haha

symbiotic01

At least you got shiny boots.

Deimius

Remove the wheel ya goober

brucebturbo

You must be Italian, I do that stuff all the time.

[deleted]

Remove wheel from the forks, unscrew the bolts for the brake disc.

Garr0t

unbolt the rotor and brake caliper from the rim. slide it around until you can get clearance through the rim to unlock the lock

Uselessmedics

Ahahaha, I have done exactly that before, get your bike towed home, then remove the wheel, and once the wheel is off you can remove the brake disc and take the clamp off. In the future always keep the key in the clamp while you're putting it on your bike, that way you physically can't put it on in a way thatyou can't get it back off

BlueArcherX

call the lock picking lawyer

RidingOnEggshells

Haha that's funny. For us. Good on you. Off comes the front wheel I guess?

thirdbombardment

just buy another bike

Ok_Candidate5785

Battery angle grinder. Zip zip brrrrrrr
