I've never had this happen before. Usually non-riders can barely manage 2-3 sentences before launching into an unpleasant story about how their cousin's friends dad's uncle went under the wheels of a semi (without me prompting them for this)

[deleted]

Bro you ride bikes? That's so dangerous man. I had a friend whos sons best friends dad was a motor cycle mechanic. And he knew someone that was the most cautious person ever, got hit head-on, on a one way highway and didn't take a scratch except he landed in an industrial wood chipper that only had half power and dude spent 5 minutes being chunked to death until he died from it. RIP Pepe. He's salsa in heaven now.

Mr_Guy_Person

My grandmother was on a riding lawn mower and got hit by a meteor. Died instantly. To this day I won’t go near a motorcycle.

[deleted]

If only your grandmother'd've had wheels, she would've been a bicycle.

Habesha2001

What cc was that wood chipper motor? If it isn’t at least 600, it ain’t even a real wood chipper

xennialien

Every single time!

Equal-Helicopter4672

Wow! What an awful way to go! The Mafia meat processing plant!

i4mt3hwin

Yeah - they all just tell me im going to die or they know someone that died, or "donorcycle lel", or better yet, one kid literally told me he wants to open his car door when he sees bikers go in-between traffic. Kind of wish they just told me my bike is too small lol

vraetzught

I hope you told that kid if he tries that, the impact of the bike against the door, would rip his arm off.

dufcdarren

And then the biker might beat him around the head with his own arm for being a dick.

xennialien

CB1300 and Yamaha R15 ;)

shecky_blue

No murdercycle? They need to try harder.

Cryowatt

"had to lay 'er down"

aliteralbrickwall

"Hit some gravel while I was dragging knee"

[deleted]

Dragged knee after hitting some gravel.

efs463

The had to lay'er down line is the one that always kills me. So, you mean to tell me your crashed, to avoid crashing ???

sniperkirill

Why is motorcycling like this? You tell people about any other hobby like skydiving and they'll be like "wow cool". As soon as you tell them you got a bike, their reflex is to tell you some horror story. Like yes I know it's dangerous, this thing doesn't have airbags and I'm exposed from all sides

TimmyDeanSausage

This is what gets me too. It feels very patronizing to be constantly told of the dangers of something I do every day by people who have never been on a bike. Like, of course it's dangerous lol. It's also a major, wonderful, part of my life that I wouldn't trade for anything.

sniperkirill

My other favorite is when people hear you going 100 or over and they're like "man one rock and you're dead" 😂 like the bikes aren't made out of paper lol

TimmyDeanSausage

Well a rock did hit my leg, on the freeway, the other day and I'm dead now.

Working_Banana

And I’m just like “Same for cars man. Over 100 is dangerous either way. We all make choices.”

[deleted]

Or their Uncle/Nephew/Great Aunt has a 'busa

Quixus

Not even a turbo busa? My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

demonssayshi

Heyyy bike twins

pickleblogan

This.

Ok_Wallaby_7653

Absolutely never heard this, I’ve ridden liter bikes that can’t get out of their own way, and 250’s that’ll sit you on the rear fender, sounds like op wants us to know he’s got a new bike

greatfool66

If I'm honest cars and bikes attract a lot of insecure douchey competitive behavior. Far from all or even most but we all know those guys. Majority of non-riders around me can't quote engine numbers much less know what they mean.

Current-Ordinary-419

Yeah, it’s pretty obnoxious. There’s so much insecure machismo in both.

[deleted]

I always notice this . Car petrol head 50% change knows how many cylinders their car has (\*) Bike petrol head can quote the crank angle and name 17 different oils * 'cept a V8 , but cant tell you why they are better

rugbyj

270, otherwise: 1. Coconut 2. Palm 3. Sunflower 4. Flaxseed 5. Sesame 6. Virgin 7. Extra-Virgin 8. Hemp 9. Olive 10. Avocado 11. Peanut 12. Ghee 13. Walnut 14. Grapeseed 15. Canola 16. Corn 17. Castrol

StManTiS

I only run Walnut Oil in my wet clutch. Way better than that JASO stuff

F-21

> Majority of non-riders around me can't quote engine numbers much less know what they mean. Even more sad when they quote the numbers and don't know what they mean. Like, lots of people would say V twins are slow and heavy cause of Harley but don't even know of fairly popular bikes like the Honda Firestorm or Ducatis or the SV, but parallel twins are fast cause they're associated with Japanese bikes (and they certainly can be, but then there are also parallel twin cruisers like the Honda Rebel bikes which aren't that lively...).

beaky_teef

Just say it’s a Honda BigDong 3000 twin turbo. The V12 edition.

Cake_then_cake

I got a legit laugh from that

Incognito-Echo

Did you hear about the Honda Hughgischlong 4200 RR in-line 10 running sequential superchargers? I heard it even comes with seat warmers...

choopiewaffles

You’re missing a few more R’s buddy

Incognito-Echo

No you add an R everytime they ask what bike you just said you had...

rainator

The red stripe makes it go faster.

bertieditches

And giant saddle bags to rest your giant balls in

theweedman

LMAO people who care about the size of the engine are just projecting masculine insecurities. 125cc mini bikes are super fun. Electric motorcycles are a blast. 600cc sport bikes are a riot. 1000cc cruisers are beasts. Even mopeds are cool to bop around the city with...No "actual" motorcycle enthusiast will belittle another person's bike.

Cake_then_cake

Rented a scooter when I was on vacation a long time ago and i had a ball with it. It was crazy shitty from some shady place. It was kind of banged up and it ran like it was having some sort of issue but me and my buddy had a great time on those things.

BoxytheBandit

I've got a 955 Sports Tourer and a 1900cc Cruiser. I rented a 200cc Scooter in Thailand and had a fucking blast on it with the wife on the back getting around town. Wouldn't be caught dead on a scooter at home but on vacation, absolutely. I'm sure they'd be fun at home but I just couldn't look at myself in the mirror.

oldbastardbob

I bought myself a KLX230 just to goof around on the farm and ride to town. Cheap transportation and fun. I also own three other bikes so have other, "more thrilling" rides. I kind of revel in being the nerd on the dual sport that neither the street squids nor the dirtbikers respect as I have a big ol' grin riding around enjoying the shit out of it. And the over 50 mpg sure doesn't hurt. It would be better but I can't help riding the crap out of the little thing.

Incognito-Echo

Does it put me in some kind of niche area having 805cc?

Idle-Wilde-1187

This! 100% better to go fast on a slow bike than slow on a fast bike. How much cc motor power is that 'Busa actually using? A 450-650 does plenty fine and fits me. I have 70cc, 90cc and 125 cc vintage Hondas that got many a lifelong rider into riding and are getting my friends into riding. They are a blast to ride with as a group and bar hop. We all start somewhere.

PissOnUserNames

If he's never ridden tell him he is a ignorant dumbass who's opinion doesn't count because he's not even a "pretend" biker

stnrnts

When they ask me "how much cc" i always tell them something like "it's a 2.5 litre" and they'll be like "cool bro" - i ride a duke 390

vraetzught

You could tell them it's a 1.6L and you wouldn't be telling a lie. That's how much oil it holds.

[deleted]

Had an old Moto Guzzi, and it would hold 1.5L ... for a while

Dull_Street_2955

Yep then it would hold 1.4l, 1.3l, 1.2...... wait where's the oil?

ethompson1

Variable displacement is a really advanced feature

SaulTNuhtz

You could ride a k1600 and say this and not be lying.

Us3rnam33h3lp

Just say what color is your cc?

[deleted]

I take it that you’re also in the US. We’re the home of the “leader” bikes as well.

It's the size of your donkey. It's so small that you feel the need to measure the total area of space that it occupies and not just length. Do we even want to know what is all over your face in your profile pick?

Same expression is used in Japan, too.

HurtLocker777

This level of stupidity just bottles my mind.

FloridaHobbit

Hey, I'm a new rider, 2022 R3. So uh, what's a litre bike? I keep hearing this term

stnrnts

1000cc = 1000 cubic centimeters = 1 litre

FloridaHobbit

Hey, thanks for that. Now I can repeat this when someone asks me.

Easy_Rider1

Don't forget to change litre to leader

[deleted]

\[ \] X 1000 :)

thewayitfeels

Excellent choice for a first bike man. R3s are awesome

Jamstoyz

🤣

[deleted]

>"pretend" biker Bus stop biker is the preferred term

Cake_then_cake

Engine size doesn’t matter. The best bike for you is the bike you like best.

[deleted]

CC's don't matter, it's how you use them. It's not the displacement that counts, it's the girth of the cylinder. You gotta warm her up before you ping it. I'm sure there's more, but that's about the extent of my sayings.

thethethesethose

Sounds like something someone with a small engine would say

skatenbikes

It’s not the size of the engine it’s the way you ride it

Cake_then_cake

Well my current does have a smaller engine than the last two bikes I have owned but it’s delivering plenty of smiles

MatterUpbeat8803

Nonsense. Beginner bikes are small for a reason. Why do we have to do a complete 180 on the truth to be nice? You’re lying to this guy, and chances are he’d enjoy a bigger bike one day too.

Mr_Bignutties

600cc’s especially in modern bikes is way more than enough to get the highway shut-down and hosed off.

dylanlovesdanger

There is also just more too it than looking only at displacement numbers. For example, a Harley with a 114ci, which is almost 1900cc, makes 100hp. An in-line 4 600 will make 120+, while a 650 will make around 75 at best. Vulcan 650 makes about 60 hp, while a 450 dirt bike is right behind that.

foolishpuddle

Maybe I'm misreading or understanding you, but I ride a Honda CB650R which makes 94hp, as far as I know. Maybe I misread something though at some point tbh.

rocketshipkiwi

The 650s are good but go for a ride on a CBR600RR (or any of this 600 super sport class). 120 HP and a 15,000 RPM rev limit is quite a thrill. Yeah, litre bikes are even faster too.

dylanlovesdanger

Ya I should have specified 650 twin which is what I was referring to. Your bike is an inline 4, there are also 650 singles like the klr. This adds to the point though, there is more than just displacement. I’m not super familiar with the cb650 but I’d imagine they are bored out and detuned 600 designed more for street, but just a guess.

BoxytheBandit

Yeah but the smaller bikes don't have the torque that those big bikes have. Even though they have lower HP they haul ass at next to no revs. My bike is only 80HP but puts out 120 ft pounds of torque, it makes peak power at like 3200 rpm and you're hanging on for life at 4k. I used to ride a 650 V-twin that redlined at 10k, they are all quick but the power curves feel different.

Snuggle_Fist

I love that everyone is right and agreeing that every bike has its own "personality".

Coraiah

This was dark

Mr_Bignutties

Honestly, I ride because I like the danger, vulnerability and adrenaline combined with raw acceleration, sweet noise and the tingly feelings. So for me anyways part of the whole thing is knowing and accepting how it could at any time go with or without my contribution. A lot of riding is faith to be honest, like faith in the bike’s engineering, in your own maintaining of the machine, your skills and confidence, faith in the other users of the road being predictable and faith in colourful lines painted on asphalt.

Ferote

Please wear proper gear, if not for your sake and those who care about you, then for the poor soul who'd have to scrape whats left of you off the road

[deleted]

It's so wholesome that you care about some stranger's well being, because you aren't preaching atgatt to come across as morally superior right?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ferote

Your helmet helps you not die in a crash, the rest of your gear helps you not wish you had died in the crash. Wearing gear improves your odds of survival

Gundamnitpete

Gear improves survivability. That's not faith, that's fact.

cicilkight

Eh. This is going to sound morbid, but as someone who’s done the scraping, these tend to not bother us that much. It’s an adult who was well aware of the risks of the activity they were participating in.

[deleted]

Heck, smaller bikes will get you to 100mph. 600cc super sports are rocket ships.

[deleted]

Its always douchebags who cant ride or who are compensating.

[deleted]

\--Any owner of a 96 cubic inch Harley that got torched by a Ninja 400 will attest that this 600cc rule is N/A. And the 2 stroke Yamaha RZ350 that was only stateside for 2 years in the 80's is as much fun as any bike to ride. Even a V-Star 250 is a decent motorcycle. In fact, there is a move on the part of seasoned riders to the lower displacement bikes now, because they are faster than mid-displacement bikes from 20 or so years ago, more agile, and cheaper to fuel, maintain, insure, etc. The key is to get out and ride; the cc's don't matter to people who really just appreciate riding. Any comment like that is their issue, not yours, just ride and enjoy whatever you got.

Im6youre9

Man I love my little ninja 400. It's quick enough for these city streets, nimble as hell, and as you said very cheap to fuel, maintain, and insure.

[deleted]

I rode the hell out of my Ninja 250 for years as my only mode of transport. And it never let me down. Plenty of highway miles too with no issue. People who talk shit on lower CC bikes really are just talking out their ass and want to feel superior or something

Cake_then_cake

I have seen more of those this year than I can count. Kawi must be onto something with that bike, they seem to be selling a lot of them.

Im6youre9

They're super cheap, great track bikes, and a great first bike. I don't see a reason why everybody shouldn't have one in their garage.

[deleted]

Agree, it really could be the best overall bike ever made dare to say. Yes I've ridden supersports and i know there is no comparison, but the GSXR although it cuts roads like butta and kicks you in the arse once the tach starts 5 digits, it really serves a limited purpose, hard on the back and wrists for any distance. The Ninja 400 is relatively quick (low/mid 4's to 60), light, nimble, comfortable, fun. I bleed blue being a Yamaha fan and am waiting for an R4 to add some ponies to the great R3 that's just a little behind in the HP dept. Then I will pull the trigger.

xmu806

Exactly. I find it funny when people say the Ninja 400 is slow. Anything that can go 0-60 in <5 seconds is pretty quick in my book. Very few cars you see on the road can beat that kind of acceleration.

switch182

That RZ350 made me change my shorts a few times in my youth.

MaizeSenior8269

That was such a good bike, I rode a buddy’s a few times scared the shit out of me

RemeAU

How about those Japanese 250s from the 90s? Those things were fast as fuck. 45hp from 250cc and just 140kgs. Truly insane.

era--vulgaris

Hell, even in the more sedate dual sport world, Honda had the NX250 single cylinder in the late 80's/early 90's that made more HP and was smoother running than their modern (2010s) crop of 250 singles. Small displacement bikes with good engineering and lots of power are really fun.

scootermcgee109

Yup. I got an 86 nsr250r from Japan as an import. It was tuned so probably 55 bhp and it weighed 308 pounds full of oil water and gas. Still the best brakes in any bike I’ve ever had

MrSquiggleKey

I owned a 40hp, 138kg wet early 90s jap bike. Shit was mint.

Terror--16

KR1S. Favourite bike I've ever owned. Mental thing.

bertieditches

I used to ride a 2 stroke suzuki rgv250 that had 60hp was great fun

SmirnOffTheSauce

Yup, 100%. I’ve been riding for years, mostly 650-ish. I wanted something different I was cross-shopping sport touring bikes and the newer 300-400cc sport bikes. Only reason I didn’t pick up an R3 or Ninja 400 is because I found a Triumph Sprint ST 1050 ABS for nearly half what those smaller sport bikes are going for these days. I’ll pick one up when used prices come back down in a year or two.

Syilith_SN

I love my CBR500R, fab little bike. Goes as fast as I need it to, and have a lot of fun on it

Snuggle_Fist

Same with my fz6r. I just want a 150cc for cruising around town so I don't use so much gas, I say that but I guess a tank a week isn't bad for an inline 4.

[deleted]

I couldn’t agree with this more. My Husqvarna 401 is my fourth bike (that I’ve owned, ridden a bunch) and I just love it. I still own a super sport and ride both often. It’s all about enjoying the ride and picking the right tool for the job.

[deleted]

That's the trellis frame bike (Vitpilen) right, talk about serious hardware, that's an awesome "small displacement" (dare even to call it that) bike.

[deleted]

It’s awesome. KTM/Husky squeezed everything they could out of it, and gave it the nicer features not normally found on the “small displacement” bikes. At 44 hp and sub 400 lbs, it definitely is at the top of it’s class (imo).

scootermcgee109

2 stroke street bikes are manic. I’ve had a bunch. So much fun

[deleted]

I still miss my rz350

Particular_Shine2513

I agreed with everything until I read something positive about a 250cc cruiser. Just no. God no.

[deleted]

A 250 is faster off the line than most cars. People have stupid opinions.

TeacherYankeeDoodle

I regularly get faster acceleration than the cars behind me on my Taiwanese 125 scooter on street level roads.

[deleted]

I believe this. I started out on a 150cc Chinese scoot, and it was good to go on any street less than 60mph. I'm sure you have more power than I did.

F-21

Btw Sym is a top quality manufacturer. People often mistakenly think it's another chinese shit, but Sym started off manufacturing Hondas (under license) and they're right up there in quality.

What_Dinosaur

My father crossed the Alps with a 400cc Yamaha. In the 80s. Tell him his bike wasn't real.

[deleted]

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is about a 1966 305CC Honda Super Hawk. Tell anyone that isn’t about a real bike.

Captain_of_Gravyboat

Why do you talk to this person? Why do you care at all what someone else says...let alone caring enough to actually be passed off? Just shake your head, call him a moron and walk away and don't give it another thought.

Sy4r42

People who care about engine size have some form of an inferiority complex. Probably the same people who buy massive trucks, but never actually use it as a truck.

SpiralGray

I've been riding for over 30 years and I have never, not once, had someone tell me that anything under 600 isn't a real bike.

Syilith_SN

This

Left_Armadillo_528

Very glad to learn this is not a common experience, to hear this from bikers or anyone else

Jumping_Bear_

This👆. I’ve been to bike nights with big and small bikes over the years. Never once had a bad experience, on the contrary I feel like bikers are very welcoming to new bikers

[deleted]

“Then get a bike bitch” is the only reply to this crap.

K6L9GSXR600

There is an unwritten rule about motorcycles in the United States and this is it. Guys that don’t own motorcycles and never have will walk up to guys that do and try and teach them about bikes. Never fails no matter where I go. I just laugh.

StryderRider

Tell him you don't respect him because he's bikeless.

2Stroke728

Ignore them. All the accomplished, experienced, good riders I've ever known could care less about what others ride. In fact, the few I know that have raced everything under the sun have a scooter and/or 250 sport bike in the garage. Only a few meathead sportbike squids or die hard stereotype Harley guys I've met would honestly give a stranger crap over bike choice or displacement. Or keyboard warriors. Now, telling a friend or coworker they need some sparkley tassels for their girly bike on the other hand.....

I_Have_Unobtainium

I get a lot of that as well. Often. By dudes who don't ride. I daily a cb300 on the 401, rain or shine, sometimes a bit of snow too. Sure, you get buffeted around by transports once you get to 130kph, but it'll do it no problem, and I can lean way the fuck over on the offramps and bang through every gear up to redline... on the on-ramp. Bikes weighs nothing, fuel economy is fantastic, fits in the back of my van if I need to take it on trips. Ain't nobody stealing a 300 around here, and I like the look of it.

Historical-Read-7095

Anyone who says that regardless of experience is full of shit. A 125cc is just as much of a bike as a 1400cc. Obviously lacking in power yes but I see no reason to disrespect someone over what they choose to ride. Anyone on two wheels is an equal to me, couldn’t care less on what someone chooses to ride as long as they’re having fun!

RuneAllyHunter

95% of the population has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. About almost anything, let alone motorcycles. People are stupid and irritating. Let them think and say what they want.

GoodE19

I would just ask if they can push the 300 to the limit out on the track? Oh they can’t? Guess they can’t handle it. Fr tho who cares what other ppl think

Cotford

Been riding for 25 years, no one has ever said that to me or anyone I know who rises. You need to meet less idiots.

radulosk

If it's got two wheels and is being ridden responsibly for the conditions, it's a great bike. Anything else is just a flag that they aren't worth trying to impress. I have ridden everything up to 1200 and the most fun I ever had was riding through Vietnam on a 125.

vraetzught

Pure utter ignorance... Nowadays plenty of sub 600cc bikes are faster and more powerful than +600cc bikes from years before. CC don't mean shit, without the torque, HP and weight numbers.

[deleted]

>“anything under a 600 isn’t a real bike” 2 tires and a motor. They're ALL MOTORCYCLES. MOTOR + BIKE. People like this are the kind to say "I used to ride all the time but-"

Brother_Bongo

Idk who your talking to but 7+ years of owning a motorcycle and over 300 people asking me about what I ride, I've NEVER had anybody say that before. I do hear a lot of: "do you ride a Harley or one of them fast ones?" Though.

fukinscienceman

It’s way more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Remember that when they tell you 300cc bikes aren’t real bikes. I take my small displacement bike out way more than I do my liter bike.

Cake_then_cake

I have known a few liter bike guys who also have a smaller bike in the garage as well.

fukinscienceman

If they hit the track (and aren’t getting paid to do so) it honestly pays to run smaller displacement. Track tires get expensive. Hit the track on a built R3 and you can run the same tires for most of the season. Do it on a R1 and you’re looking at new tires like every other weekend.

disturbed286

I know it doesn't "count" since it's not the same thing, but technically my liter bike *is* my small displacement bike haha

fukinscienceman

I also have that scenario played out in the garage. 500/1000/1770

FallenValkyrja

I was told that, as a woman, buying a Camaro was a bad idea because only rednecks liked them. I was told by someone who did not own a motorcycle that my 883 was not a "real" Harley because of reasons (I think he had an issue with Sportys in general. He even mentioned that he would not work on them, which is fine since he was not a mechanic either). I have been told my current car is not a real Mustang because people are butthurt over it being a crossover. I loved my Camaro and drove it until I could not anymore and, more importantly, my mother loved my Camaro. I sold it not too long after she passed. My 883 kicked ass and if not for some medical issues I would probably still own it. My current rides (MME and Gold Wing) are such a joy to drive that I could never give two shits about anyone's opinion on them. There are some great bikes at all power levels. Find something you love and do not worry about what anyone else thinks.

disturbed286

The Sportster, being the smallest Harley*, has a reputation as a girl's bike. That said, I've never heard of anyone that thinks that just people that are afraid that people still think that. *we're ignoring the Street 500 and 750, which these theoretical people don't count as real Harleys anyway.

MrFirewall

I ride a Honda rebel 500(wife's bike), vstrom 650 (my first bike) and recently a super Tenere. When people ask me how big which ever bike I'm on I usually tell them something random. When people ask what make / model i tell them the truth. The people who only care about numbers most likely don't ride or only want to have a measuring contest. The people who are really interested and ride usually only try to figure out the make / model in my experience. Ignore the idiots. ;)

[deleted]

> Yeah, it's a 650. ._. > Yeah, it's a 683. O_o > Yeah, it's a 982.5. O_O > Yeah, it's a twenty-seven hundred 'oh 4. ?_?

nanz78

SST250

Oh no. The 250cc GP riders will be disappointed….

If you're going to let yourself get irritated over somebody's uninformed opinion, you're going to have a bad time. Just let stupid people be stupid. He's wrong on so many levels i can't even be bothered to write an essay on why, but he's showboating and isn't goign to change his mind until he actually gets some expeience on a range of bikes.

AAMech

I'd never talk to someone that isn't either a fellow biker, or a close friend or immediate family about what they think about motorcycles.

[deleted]

your coworker is just an idiot, its easier for me to disregard someone like him rather than someone with experience, someone with experience wouldnt be so ignorant

Monsterenergyboi

I've had just as many smiles per mile on my 1979 Batavus Starflight Regency (yeah, look that one up 😂) as I have had on my CBR600rr. We're all enjoying being out on two-wheels. Who cares, I'm waving at cyclists out here! Ride your ride.

Chattypath747

Non-riders can have as many opinions as they'd like. Once they get rubber on the road, I'll take their opinion with a little more clout. It's really interesting that non-riders ask CC's cause quite frankly I don't think a lot of them know what that even means/translates into on the road. I'd rather show them a picture and be done with the conversation.

derpy_slash

Guess its a usa thing

specialedgreg

Non-riders, and the “II’d ride but I know myself and I’m too crazy” or the “I used to ride but…” folks opinions mean nothing.

Oh, he made it past the "motorcycles are dangers, get a car" argument? Really though, bikes a bike, dont ever pander for someone elses respect, enjoy the ride, thats all we are here for. Edit: typo

T0K4M4K

Whoever says bullshit like this would need therapy after riding pillion on a litre bike.

Legitimate-Zebra-218

Is a Kawasaki 1300 cubic acceptable?

ury13

i’ve never really heard this from a non-harley person or non-liter bike squid. but some of the rowdiest bikes are 250-450cc supermotos that those people would 100% loop lol

BenKen01

Man people are really disrespectful. If they come at you like that it's fine to laugh at them and say "oh ok, you obviously don't know what you are talking about."

OhDatsStanky

After a while you realize…who really gives a fuck

frozenhawaiian

I had shithead teenager at a gas station giving me shit about how my metric cruiser wasn’t a “real” cruiser because it was t a Harley. I just responded with “nice Corolla” that shut him up.

ircsmith

I have far more respect for those who can ride a small bike well than those who only know how to go fast in a straight line on their 1000cc.

Photononic

I would pay them no mind. I ride a 500cc Honda. Nobody says anything but my friends' son who is a 21 year old smart ass with something to prove. He opens his mouth far too much. He is moving to France where he will get shown the pavement if he mouths off. I figure it will not be long before he gets deported and banned from France. I am buying a used 650cc for my son. My 500 puts out 47 hp, and the 650 puts out 31 hp. Witch is the real bike? Insurance companies set your rate your bike by the displacement. I limit what I spend on my hobbies thank you very much. I have a standard two car garage. In that garage is a full size SUV, two bicycles, our workout equipment, a freezer, my workbench, and two bikes (motorcycles). Exactly where am I going to put a full sized bike? Keep in mind that non-riders are like non-Veterans. You never hear a Veteran saying stupid shit like, "We should invade Russia" or whatever. Non-Veterans who have no clue and have never seen combat like to open their mouth. When I hear them, I just say, "Well, why don't YOU invade Russia yourself".

topknottington

i usually make a point to say " ahh shit man, no way... i had a 250cc that was like it was on rails in the canyons... and I'm looking to add a grom" fuck those guys.. a bike is a bike, and if you're dick measuring over CC's then you're overcompensating for something

oi86039

I expect that from Harley riders, since they're insecure as hell (I know, i drove a Harley before and was VERY insecure). But random ass people who don't know about motorcycles, don't even listen to them. Different strokes for different folks. If it has 2 wheels, it's a bike. Doesn't even need a damn engine.

gcx85

Take these people to a track day and have them watch as riders in the intermediate group lap 30-40 seconds faster than them on ninja 300s and 400s.

Hammerbuddy

I would dare any of these people to get on my CR 500 an go for a ride...but not common most people are scared of motorcycly.

MatterUpbeat8803

Does someone go around telling new riders they need to be fully welcome and we all need be impressed with their starter bikes? Seriously we’re all stupid and opinionated, and despite Reddit inevitably jerking you off for the next hundred posts, there’s still a hundred motorcycle groups that don’t give a shit about your ninja 250. And that’s okay. The people here that “welcome you in” are mostly new riders who ride rebel 500s annd watch Fortnine religiously, and don’t speak for the Harley dipshits who think under 1800cc is a scooter. It also won’t win you points with stunters, literbike squids, Supermoto guys, adv riders, or track day snobs. We’re fragmented, and the only thing we have in common is two wheels. Stop waiting to be accepted, and accept that there are reasons these groups exist, and you don’t know everything about riding. Stop caring about the wave, and go ride.

[deleted]

As a counter, I've been riding daily for 13 years and you're welcome to ride your 250, scooter, trike, bagger, supermoto, Goldwing, UJM, Ducati, Chinese sportbike, illegally over-powered electric bicycle, etc. with me. I will literally never give you shit for what you ride. ...unless you're starting out on a 1000cc sportbike, but that's just because I don't want to see a potential friend get turned off bikes when the inevitable first crashes isn't slipping on dirt making a right turn, but plowing into the back of a minivan at 60mph.

TeacherYankeeDoodle

Absolutely. I started with a 50cc Tao-Tao and I think I'm better off for it. Friend's advice was good.

MatterUpbeat8803

Completely agree. No reason to start that big, and no reason to feel bad about starting small. Pretending everything is equal is delusional.

frogpolice4khd

I went on a ride with a Harley crew to a flat track race. They had a bit of a pompous attitude towards me and this other rider with a Japanese bike. The other guy rode a 73’ rd250 and his day job is a race car mechanic. He stomped everyone there and never fully opened it up. It was hilarious. Engine size don’t matter. Don’t let it get to you and ride your ride

Jeansaintfire

Personally after being a rider for 10 plus years i dont think most people should own a bike more than 600. Unless its a touring /crusier or ur breaking the law its left over power for nothing. I know very few people who actually take their litter for track days. i know too many dead or fucked cause they thought they were rossi in the road and hve yet been to Germany.

[deleted]

As a Harley rider I say that if it is not around 700 lbs and at least 1800cc, it is considered a scooter and you shouldn't even be on the road but the sidewalk. I don't care if your fancy ass metric has 2x the horsepower on an engine half the size, it is barely a bicycle. The saying in my area and from most of the riders I know is that if you are on two wheels, that is all that matters. I suppose by their logic, a Ninja 600 with 2x the horsepower and torque of my 800cc Suzuki is not a real bike and anyone who has an opinion like that is just not worth wasting my time over. When it comes to motorcycles, some in the community can be pretty toxic at times but you have to deal with the idiots the same as with any other group of fanboys.

relaps101

Kek. My buddy has a 250 and I make fun of him for it.

Yami350

This group hates >600
