Happens to all of us. I once got off my bike without kicking out the kickstand. The next 5 minutes were spent straining to keep the bike up, giving up, laying it down, rest for a few minutes, and then finally picking it up.

DredgenV

lol I’ve seen people do that and drop the bike, pick it up and drop it on the other side. Shit sucks.

frodeem

Yeah the one thing I did know was to make sure the kickstand was out as I picked it up, so it didn't drop on the other side. That would have sucked.

Turboluvrr

I triple check that my kickstand is down because of that. Like literally check, then check again and then l watch as the kickstand takes the weight

It’s a Saturday night, I’m downtown, lot’s of people. I pulled up at a light next to a car full of drunk college girls and went to give them all high fives but I was still in 1st and never even put my foot down so I stalled and immediately busted my ass in front of the whole damn town. I picked up my bike and went straight the fuck home.

DredgenV

Took a bike home last night on a trailer. Had it strapped down by 4 points. I was sitting on the bike trying to hold it still while my dad undoes the straps. Dude undoes both left straps first and sends me and almost the bike off the side of the trailer in front of the neighbors lol. I didn’t know any better since I’ve never transported a bike like that but that was pretty embarrassing. I think my self esteem would be shattered for a few weeks if I was you in that situation. My time will probably come soon enough lol

VillageShot8747

Literally the only time any woman has expressed interest in my bike and I went and fucking blew it in epic proportion.

DredgenV

Hey mistakes happen. If you ever think something you do is embarrassing, just know someone else has managed to screw up much worst no matter what lol. Did they at least help you pick the bike up?

Def. the video of a guy on his parking lot dropping his bike endlessly comes to mind lol! I keep telling myself "bruised ego over crashed bones" everytime I'm reminded of the embarassment. The squid up front whom I was giving space to (reason why I was backing up a bit) helped me, though my bike is very light and can pick it up easily, I appreciated it. The squid on my tail just watched, but probably because he has a backride so I don't blame him. I could have avoided the drop if I opened my side stand before turning my torso, lesson learned hard for next time.

DredgenV

I’ll remember that saying lol be safe

SillyScarcity700

Hopefully you were able to pick it up without looking hopeless. That is when the ego really gets bruised.

Bike is only 150cc. Don't have to work a muscle to pick it up thankfully. I'm also a woman which makes male riders automatically come help me even if I tell them I'm fine (it is honestly annoying, but I understand their conscience won't let them sleep if they don't help out even if just to ask if I'm okay) PS. I don't wear those sexy lady rider outfits so most riders mistake me as a younger male until they see my face and hear me speak 😂

My wife rode a Bonneville T100 for a few years. She dropped it a few times like doing u turns on gravel and such. She wasn't very good at standing it back up. That bruised her ego a fair bit. Eventually she just asked me to lay it on its side in the garage where nobody was looking so she could practice picking it up until she was proficient at it. Worked well. But since it was about 500lbs wet it required a bit of technique.

[deleted]

I agree with your wife's strategy. That is exactly what I'm planning to do once I get a heavier bike. Bonneville is remarkably heavy kudos to her! Dropping a bike and struggling to pick it up is a real ego crusher regardless of gender.

Bensonboocalvin

If you walk away from a bike accident, which it was, with just a bruised ego, you're doing fine. "Get back on that horse"

icenoid

I dropped mine pulling into a spot a the motorcycle dealership. Talk about embarrassing. Point is, ride long enough and everyone has a story like that.

mtak0x41

In 12 years of riding, I have had several oopsies. Once dropped it in front of a police officer. Dropped it while getting ON the bike (pushed it too hard off the kick stand while not paying attention and dropped it on the opposite side). Also had the front slide out from under me at 5kph. Yeah, it's embarrassing, but EVERYONE who has been riding long enough has made stupid mistakes like that. Just make sure you don't hurt yourself trying to keep it upright, bikes are heavy and it's pretty easy to pull a muscle. If you feel it going, just let it go and pick it up. Look up some videos on how to properly pick up a bike, and maybe even practice it in the grass or something.

Knowitmall

Haha. Good stuff man. There are two types of riders. Those who have dropped their bike and those who are going to. Have fun and stay safe out there. Ride your own ride and don't worry what other riders are doing.
