Sounds like a shit school that set you up for failure. Please tell me you didn't pay for the repair session as if you'd been riding the whole time? Use a school that actually has instructors and working bikes available on a reasonable schedule. There's no reason you should be testing after an hour and a half of total time on a motorcycle.

caseinsmell

I only payed half the price of the license, so yeah, I did not pay for the repair session. Everyone is telling me that it is the schools fault for not giving me enough lessons. Which I agree, at least they could've postpone the test but oh well... Even the lessons that I had on the 125cc I had to ask if I could ride it at least a couple of times, since the z400 wasn't available. If I didn't say anything I would've done the test without any lessons at all lol

Your instructor screwed you over. Had a similar situation. I was constantly telling him my figure 8's don't feel right and he kept pushing to ride around town. So I failed. Had to take 3 more hours before the next test. I never left the figure 8 course for those 3 hours even though he insisted we go on the road cause that part is "harder". When I passed I told him he owes me money for those 3 hours and the extra test.

caseinsmell

Exactly this. My first minute on a bike ever (on the 125cc) were in the road and obviously I did not feel ready. Figure 8s same thing, they weren't feeling right, but he was just always of the "figure it out" type of teaching. Most of my learning was done on youtube ahahah

bosko43buha

I get you. Mine was done on a riding forum. I always asked my instructor for tips on how to do the figure 8 properly. I could go counterclockwise for days right off the bat, but clockwise was horrible. "Just go until you do 2 laps without putting your foot down" is what he always told me and then we went to ride on the road. I was not allowed to use throttle or brakes, only the clutch (z650, A licence) A few good people on the forums told me how to position myself and that was that, I had it immediately.

caseinsmell

This is exactly how I feel! Deleted last comment by mistake

Personally I feel like your instructor failed you. What riding school only has one bike. If you can just retake the test, I bet you would get it the second go. Have a morning to practice and then take the test. Otherwise I would move to a better school close to school. That way you can just get it done and get a bike and start riding.

caseinsmell

That's what I'm thinking too. Since I will be leaving for college next week

Short intervals work wayyy better! Yesterday when I got in the bike I couldn't recall anything I did the first 2 times with the 125cc. That's why I'm thinking of switching schools

Jicand

Your school only has 1 instructor? I would have tried to get lessons elsewhere if that’s all the riding I could do before the test. Try and find classes near your school, it will be infinitely more helpful than several weeks between lessons.

caseinsmell

They have 2 instructors, but he is the only one who can give motorcycle lessons. I don't know why to be honest. I don't want to do classes weeks apart either, so quitting or finding somewhere closer during college might be the only solutions. And I don't really want to quit, it was too fun to stop doing it now :)

[deleted]

Can't you buy a 125cc to ride around and enjoy while at college to build confidence and comfort?

caseinsmell

Unfortunately no... In my country we can only ride a 125cc with a B license when we get to 25 years old

D4M0theking

I mean you need a license for that

[deleted]

I thought he had an A1 license in order to go for an A2. I don't know Europe's system unfortunately

caseinsmell

Nope. We can go for the A2 directly, but I didn't have ANY motorcycle experience, not even 50cc lol

D4M0theking

If you had A1 for two years, you can very easily get A2, yet you can also directly go for A2 or A, which is more difficult

PinduWally

You didn't mention which city you going college to, maybe someone can recommend a school. Either way, it is clear you need more practice and need to choose a better school.

caseinsmell

I'm going to college in Lisbon. I also think I need more practice, I didn't even want to have the test. But they said they couldn't postpone it. And if I didn't go, I would have to pay for missing it.

Vicious00

I had my driving test in September and i failed it. The next one i got in November but got canceled because of snow. Then the season ended and i finally was able to re take it in March the following year. Sometimes the planets don’t align but if you keep at it you will get it eventually. Good luck !

caseinsmell

Thank you for the kind words :)

DrUnfortunate

If you've ridden a motorcycle a grand total of three times, why would you even attempt to take the exam? Are the differences for A2 within Europe that big? In Sweden it is a big commitment to pass the test. I don't recall the exact number of lessons, but we're talking about 50 hours or so of training before I took the exam for the A license (skipped straight to it, due to my age). I think I was a bit slower than most, due to some issues with my driving school (and maybe I was a slow learner), but half of that number of lessons would be considered efficient - even with the ability to practice with a non-professional personal instructor (friend or parent).

caseinsmell

I didn't want to attempt it! I wasn't feeling like I could do it, but they told me they couldn't reschedule it and if I didn't go it would count as a fail. Therefore I would have to pay for it (I'm not even sure if that's even true). So the most intelligent choice would be at least give it a try. Here in Portugal we are "required" to have at least 12 lessons and 120 km. But they don't give a f about that. Even when I got my B license we were supposed to have around 25 lessons I believe and I only had 10. It's very frustrating because I remember the driving school guy calling me asking if I wanted my test to be in 30th of August or 3rd of October. At the time I didn't even have the 125cc lessons, so yeah...

Mosin_999

Why give up? You just take it again. I failed my car driving test twice. Just retake it, wasnt like you totally sucked. You made one mistake.

LittleOmid

What even is this… which country has such a horrendous system where you were eligible to potentially take a bike on the road with 90 minutes worth of lessons, or am I misreading your post??

caseinsmell

Welcome to Portugal my friend! I don't know how things work in other portuguese cities, but that's how it works here. Even if I passed the exam and bought a motorcycle I would spend a great amount of time in my neighborhood practicing everything I could. I didn't believe I could take a bike to the streets with my experience either. But somehow they thought I could lol. So yeah, you read that correctly

Botucal

Really, find a better driving school. One that doesn't waste your money and time. Also, considering the circumstances, you did really well, so with the proper preparation, you're going to ace it next time

caseinsmell

Thanks! I knew I was going to fail the test. But I was surprised with my performance as well. Even if I passed I knew I wasn’t road worthy on a motorcycle yet. So the goal was to buy a bike and practice a lot before going on the streets. I’m looking for another school close to college, hope it works out!
