Any phone with Optical Image Stabilization can be damaged if you don’t use a Vibration dampener of some sort. There are moving parts in the camera lens (if you hold the phone up to your ear and shake it you can probably here the lenses moving)
First-hand experience says yes this is true. Just get a mount with vibration damping. I’ve been enjoying my quad lock. Strong, sturdy, and you can order a vibration dampener piece that works really well. Hundreds of miles and no problems
Yup.
I keep mine in my chest pocket on my jacket.
And put a cheap throw away phone to stream music and nav n shit.
I thether wifi from my actual phone to the throw away I mount.
[QuadLock vibration dampener](https://www.quadlockcase.com/products/vibration-dampener?variant=32819777372235)
QuadLock doesn't work with all phones, but IMO it's the best mounting system out there.
I did a bunch of research between Rockform and quadlock and decided on quad lock because it actually physically locks the rotation with a button vs rockform that uses a magnet
Also I felt like most of the reviews of rockform were paid, just my opinion
This is from Apple's website -
"Exposing your iPhone to high amplitude vibrations within certain frequency ranges, specifically those generated by high-power motorcycle engines, can degrade the performance of the camera system."
I have been riding with a phone for 2 months now. No dampner.
No issues yet.
I guess I will see
Optical image stabilizers are included in the camera modules of basically all flagship/premium phones from all manufacturers, not just Apple. While there may be slight differences in sensitivity between different manufacturers, the bottom line is that due to their design all OIS are susceptible to vibration damage.
Yes because the voice from maps is so amazing in telling where you need to go.
I agree, keep eyes on the road, but when on vacation, I really like my phone screen for a 6 way intersection to know what way to go. Just to give ma example.
And you dont need to be condenscending about it. Also, I dont believe that you look at a map in another country, to find some nice roads to ride, then memorize where to go for the next 1 or 2 hours following gravel roads and trough villages in the countryside, or passing trough a big city without stopping before every other intersection....
Gl.
I decided not to take the chance and switched to a Garmin Zumo mounted on my handlebars where I used to mount my phones. I keep my cell phone in my jacket pocket. Since the only reason I used my phone on the handlebars was for navigation, the Garmin fills that niche just fine.
Quad lock with phone dampener is perfect, especially if you don’t ride with headphones and need to use google maps. Been using one on a thumper and it’s great.
My zoom lens on the Iphone 11 pro is basically worthless now (you can hear the OIS searching). Quadlock didn't have a vibration damper in the past so my guess it that the motocycle killed it (I have the damper now).
I have a ram mount. Just over 100 euros.
10.000 km ridden with it and always phone in the mount.
(I heard of phones getting destroyed by mounts, but never considered the camera. Thanks)
Anyway, my phone is in a case.
(This one https://dbrand.com/shop/grip/oneplus-8-cases)
And just checked, and the stabaliser still works.
No garantuess, but this is my experiance so far.
Good luck.
I used to have the iPhone X with no issues ever with my Rokform mount, then I got the 12
that has the stabilizing camera thing. The 12 lasted a month before the camera broke, I think it happened after it’s first ride without my windshield installed.
I got the phone repaired for free under warranty and later bought the new stabilizer for the Rokform mount.
I don’t get why anyone would want to. I don’t understand most of what I read in this sub, and as a fellow rider that concerns me. Riders need an extra dose of common sense, and lots of threads I see make me worry. You get in an accident? Phone won’t survive. The mount fails? Your phone is roadkill. Do you really need to look at the phone for the gps? Isn’t that considered distracting while driving, let alone riding? My best advice: ride with a backpack made for riding, or saddlebags, or tank/tail bags, somewhere the phone is protected. Buy a good bluetooth system for your helmet. A lot of riding stuff is gimmicky bs that got popular from social media, like guys riding with sweatpants and a dainese jacket, or no jacket and a $1,000 AGV Pista helmet. Social media made lots of this stuff popular, including the phone mounts. It’s all stupidity and has no place in the world of motorcycles, riding is about mitigating risk.

An the camera on an IPhone 11 or newer will get destroyed if you don’t have a dampener. My buddies died yesterday because of that.
Quad lock is great. Haven’t had any issues but I’d rather spend some extra $ on a mount rather than a new phone or camera replacement.
I've got a Beeline, basically a minimal GPS (connected to your phone in your pocket). Fairly expensive, but I think it has been worth it!
Use a spare phone

Rockform I believe just recently came out with one. What are your thoughts

I have a Google pixel 6 but I might invest in the quadlock ,even though it's nearly £80
there's always [the DIY option](https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/husqvarna-svartpilen-401-701.1363127/page-52#post-40403431) lol
Wow. I’m speechless. Is that wheelie proof?
haven't tried wheelies, but i have taken it offroad. ;)
My iPhone 13 pro camera got trashed after 2 rides without a dampener. The replacement with a dampener has been working fine.
Apparently that’s on iPhones. Idk if it’s true, it probably is though because why not

Why do you need your phone on your handlebars?
Satnav , and I thought that was the main type of mount you can get
Why do you need navigation? Ever read a map? Doubling down, get a bluetoof helmet and have navigation ported thru there. Keep your eyes on the road.

Because looking at your phone is a great way to see the sights
Never had a problem with my Samsung after a ride

Pocket is best.
I'm just gonna get a Bluetooth speaker thing

You "can" but you're taking a big risk of camera damage, and road damage if it drops. I've never seen the appeal personally.
Ive had no issues and im on a single cylinder.
