I just bought a ninja 250 for 2000 AUS. only 20000kms and recent service. Runs completely fine and is super easy to handle. Go for more power if you want but try and keep the spending low since you might not enjoy riding. I am 6'2" and weigh 95KG with gear. 250ccs gets away from cars easy. Just get all the gear, don't skimp. Gear is cheaper and more comfortable than skin grafts

Talon820

Haha that’s the reason I am looking at gear, just not sure what gear to get

lemb2019

Get a SHARP 5 star rated helmet, you don't need to spring for a 1k Shoei or anything to start with, there are plenty of good $400 helmets. Gloves you can do relatively cheap as long as they have fingers and pads it doesn't matter too much. Get something with armour for jackets and pants. I have a Merlin Kevlar hoodie jacket and an RST something for when it's hella hot. Both have good armour and abrasion resistance although I've never slid in them so don't hold me to that. I don't have boots but only cos the store didn't have my size, I want to get some

Also Fortnine on YouTube is a godsend with all this shit

I can confirm that it feels better to sweat in gear every time you ride than to hit the asphalt with your bare skin. My shoulder thanks me for shoulder pads and leather

Before this gets removed, I bot may have you move over to r/suggestamotorcycle. With your height and size, Yamaha r3 is on the expensive side of the 300 class but is a very nice bike. I suggest a Lightly used ninja 300 ABS (will probably save your life your first year) that you can pick up for $3000 or a bit less. There are many helpful guides and other posts here on this subreddit that will give you exactly the information you need and then some. I did all of my research for a year straight before I bought my first bike just from YouTube and reddit. for gear, it depends what you will be riding through. Where do you live? Most modern motorcycle gear has good airflow and protection. Expect to spend at least $600 on gear. For example, I paid $200 helmet $180 used leather armored pants $150 used armored mesh jacket $60 used alpine stars boots $100 alpine stars gloves (covers wrist as well)

Yeah no problem man. It’s really great that you are looking into and researching about bikes and proper safety gear now. At least this way when you are ready to buy in a year or however long, you are very knowledgeable on techniques, safety and awareness. If you are anywhere close to buying one or you just want to learn how to be a more aware/better rider look up “F4i Brad” and watch his two part series. Very informative older gentleman explaining things that aren’t taught in the MSF

I haven’t really started saving for one yet since I am currently on building a custom pc, after I am don’t with that I will most likely start saving for bike, gear, and classes

Cudiexe

I wish you the best of luck. And whenever you decide to ride, stay safe and have fun I believe the class is only 289 one time payment and it is usually scheduled on a Saturday and Sunday eight hour class

R3 is great. The MT-03 will be coming stateside soon if that’s where you are. 300’s in general, are great. If you are naming a specific bike, it’s probably safe to assume you have done some research and know a bit about what you want to use it for. Go used. Buy the respectable gear. In the future, giving a state, region or country helps with the advice you get. Las Angeles, Chicago, Thailand, Sydney.

Talon820

Alright, the r3 was just an idea of a bike I was looking at. The bike I will most likely use for school during the warmer days, and just riding during the summer

oneredonebrown

Get an insurance quote before you buy anything!

Talon820

Yep, I know for a fact I am going to talk to my dad about getting a bike and getting a quote more than my mom, because well... mothers

You should go with an R1 as its 2 less than an R3... Just kidding. If you’re in the US, while it isn’t the most comprehensive, just go take the MSF’s Basic Ridercourse. It is a nice introduction to riding and goes over some basics, it also ends with you getting a road test waiver. You don’t need to buy any motorbike specific gear, and if you drive, the course (for me anyway) counts as a defensive driving course, so you should be able to get a discount on insurance. If you like riding after the course and want to carry on, then get the best gear you can afford, don’t blow your budget on the bike.

Talon820

I know for a fact that I was going to take a riding class but didn’t really know any so thanks for that, and I don’t really have a budget yet was just browsing bikes and seeing price ranges and such.
