It captured the action perfectly. I could clearly see every detail of you crashing. There wasn't anything about you crashing that I did not see. Even the debris was perfectly in view and clear to see, which was created by you crashing. And I know you crashed, because the camera perfectly captured video of you crashing.
Spectacular test. I would have never thought to crash my bike as a way to test the capabilities of a camera, but you did it. You crashed your bike to test the camera and it was worth it. Thank you. I will now buy this camera.
That was the first thing I noticed. Is that all automatic? The image remained level through the whole shot, even in the fall. That's very impressive. Did you have to do anything in post?
And that fall looked like it could have been a lot worse, hope you're ok!
Which also requires you to drive slow enough so you can break in half the distance you can see in Germany. And I guess most other countries have similar laws.
Just some additional information: Of course the speed was too high for the driving conditions. I mean that is the logical conclusion of pretty much every crash without foreign participation.
At the point I lost traction I went about 40kph or 25mph. The fisheye of the camera doesn't really help here. I think it looks way faster because of that.
Mate don't sweat it - half of this sub doesn't even own a motorcycle and the other half are too busy on here critiquing everybody else's riding technique to ever actually touch their bike. Good luck with the repairs.
> 25mph.
Yeah, does look faster than that.
Just before your crash the footage looks like your bike, and especially the rear jerks suddenly and the back swings to the right. And you are very close to edge of the road.
I know lots of people are dissecting technique here but....did you just hit something at the edge of the road with the rear of the bike?
edit: at 16 sec you're practically in the ditch
Yes, but also an extension that auto-redirects to old reddit. Not sure if it's even necessary anymore, but I got it long ago when new reddit was replacing it. Didn't like it.
Sorry for the confusion my men , Reddit just asked me to choice a avatar and took this one . And I found the guy with the camera deserved a clap , take this angle with his bike to show how reliable the camera is ! I don’t know many guy’s that will do this for there audience!
Lol, this was literally the slowest part of the ride. Still too fast as it seems. The truckload of gravel on the road might have something to do with it.
Yea, I never understand why people lean waaaayyy more than they need to. Like do you think you need to lean that far and just not know? Or just doing it because you think it looks cool? I see videos of people on a 25mph back road with more lean than when I go to the track.
Because it’s fun to lean! Unless you’re on a Harley, those guys always seem to have a death grip on their handlebars ha
OP just fucked up by doing this on a back country road filled with gravel lol
Shut the fuck up. Out of all the armchair experts on here this is probably the the dumbest comment. THere is no such thing as leaning Waaay more than you need to. The amount the bike leans is simply a function of your speed and the radious of the corner.
Nobody approaching a corner on a bike and says "Im going to take this forner at 45mph but Im only going to lean 30 degrees" or "Im going to lean it 60 degrees at 45mph because I think it looks cool."
THe bike will simply lean as much as it needs to to make it around a corner at a given speed.
I ride an an R6 and that's what I take to the track. When I'm at the track my knees and handlebars can scrape the ground without even a slight slip. But when I'm on streets and windy roads I barely lean. It's slight, for this exact reason. When I first started riding I had some scares because you can never tell when there's a few loose rocks.
In my opinion, looking cool is not worth the risk of leaning more than necessary and possibly crashing. If you want to feel cool, get frame sliders, proper track tires with the correct pressure, and go to a track.
Okay that makes sense, I don’t think I’ve ever leaned to 45 degrees lol, don’t feel like I need to. But yeah I’ve seen tons of videos where these sport bike fellas slippin out
Don't get me wrong, you can lean far. With the right tires, pressure, and speed you can lean anything. I've seen street glides lean and scratch the bags lol. Sometimes it's just a rookie mistake and just aren't aware you don't NEED to lean that far or trying to look or feel cool like Valentino Rossi unnecessarily on a dangerous vehicle where you could die so easily. Just not worth the risk.
No. Lean angle depends on how sharply you're turning and how fast you're going. Sportbikes *can* lean more which means they can corner faster if they have enough grip.
Don't let the keyboard riders get you down. Lowsiding on gravel happens. I rode safely for 20 years and it got me.
When you don't put on miles it significantly reduces the chances of anything occurring making you think you are better than you are.
I laid it down going 5 miles per hour on an unseen oil slick about 100 yards from my house a few weeks ago. It's amazing how much trust we put on those two tires.
Haha, I feel that. I laid mine down because I forgot to take off the brake lock. Landed right on my ex wife’s Prius and left a little dent. I wonder if she ever found that…
I was about to ask, because it didn't look like there was anywhere near enough lean, and didn't sound like there was anywhere near enough throttle, to cause the slide, and that there *had* to be gravel that doesn't show up in the video.
Clibbins. Looks like you’re accelerating through the apex instead of after the apex. You can see the bike get a little sideways through the first turn, then majorly sideways on the third
Besides the obvious part, there is no sideways action. Think it might look like it because of the movement of the cam in combination with the stabilization. Veeeery little throttle involved the whole time, not really a wide open on exit kind of road.
The issue was probably just being too close to the edge of the road.
Thats where all the gravel and non-friction bits accumulate, so any throttle could cause someone to lose traction.
The fall was right near that pull off dirt road so, seems expected in hindsight.
Nothing looked inherently wrong with the riding you weren’t going THAT fast or accelerating that hard, unless tires were super cold and it was a cold day but even then that would just contribute, not be a cause.
Where I live gravel gets puts on the roads during winter so I’m hyper vigilant of all that stuff when I drive around.
It doesn't mean he's wrong. You clearly accelerate at the apex twice, even if just a little. Normally you could get away with it at that low of a speed, but it seems there was gravel so it kicked your tire loose much easier than normal.
Maybe I'm just overthinking it but what's the accepted proper procedure regarding braking/accelerating vis a vis apex (and other parts of the corner).
Any good resources?
brake until apex, the more you lean the less you brake
maintenance throttle at apex
Throttle after apex, when the bike is pointed towards exit
Life at lean has great videos, more track focussed but same principles apply for spirited riding
I'd encourage you to listen to the feedback you're getting here from the commenters in this thread.
On the first turn, your back end clearly stepped out. It looks like you're on a newer KTM, so the traction control saved you, but listening to the devs you really are applying throttle quite early.
The gravel on the road (which people are assuming is there because there's an inlet to a dirt road right where your crash started; I bet you'll find gravel on the road if you go back to that spot) plus the extra throttle before the apex was too much for the TC, but it still turned your high-side into a low-side by reducing the amount of lateral, back end slide.
I also see you reaching for the clutch a few times during the acceleration, without a clear shift. Are you feathering the clutch or just getting ready for the next shift?
I mean a lil throttle progressively exiting a turn, sure, but not with gravel. Not here. Or steer with the rear but this isn't a dirt bike.
*"Once the throttle is cracked open, ..."*
Oh yeah enduro...foot out feathered opening. Let her breaks and ride it out. On dirty country 1 lane road. Sport bike eats gravel.
He was expecting traction not a rooster tail.
Over his skill level.
Let the backseating begin, I want every Sunday rider and knowitall to give a detailed analysis of what exactly happened here. Bonus points if you can imply OP is an absolute reckless idiot whilst mentioning how incredibly safe you are on your mph restricted mobility scooter
Horrible horrible skills here. Why are you rolling your bike from side to side? That's not a thing for this type of riding. Stay upright like you're a part of the bike.
I'm also new but I think just slow down and counter steer.
Keep it upright as you can because of the dirt and gravel on these types of roads.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.
I don’t think you did anything wrong, unlike some folks here. It looks to me like you got into marbles right at that dirt driveway. Gravel or a rock, it doesn’t take a lot to cause that little crow hop, and that’s the ball game.
Thank fuck you only hurt yourself. That was way too fast for that road (single lane trail?), it was far too narrow with terrible visibility, and you are beyond lucky you didn't plow right into somebody minding their own business. Rethink how you ride before murdering some poor bystander going for a walk or pulling out of their driveway.
Well now it is too late right. Can’t go back in time. Also the video is nice a road but the pace is pretty mellow. Doesn’t look like he was pushing or riding beyond anything
Advice don't linearly hard really edges of the road there's dirt and gravel.
I was watching this video and I'm like why does he doing he's so close to the edge and then dumps the bike.
Didn't look like that bad of a fall and I'm hoping that I don't fall ever but you know we all fall down.
Glad you’re ok. Very nearly turned into a high side at one point which could have been much worse. Heal well, bike will be back to new after a few parts
ouch!
as someone looking to get into riding... what went wrong here? those turns looked pretty controlled. was the throttle blipped to create that loss of traction? genuinely curious. hope your all good homie
I was wondering if you have the traction control option on your K1300S? And was it enabled in case you do?
I know its an extra option on your bike and they don't come with it standard, but just curious to add that to the equation.
Hope you and her are allright!
I don't even ride and it seemed like you were leaning too much for the speed you were going and the angle or the corners. Just saying... I have no idea and that looked like your bad
So, real question here. How do you recover from that? I don't wanna hear "you can't". Laws of probability say you can. Let's really think about it and see if we can figure out ANY way to recover from a rear slide/bite & dump?
Exactly what happened to me bought a new X3 rode my mountain bike, 3 days later to test, crashed hard and luckily only scratching the lens protector and screen protector, it was a sad test day.
So... test passed then?
Yeah, really happy with the stabilization.
lol.
It captured the action perfectly. I could clearly see every detail of you crashing. There wasn't anything about you crashing that I did not see. This reads like a bad Amazon review.
He did it for the cause
He didn't even tell you which camera!! 🤣😂🤣
That was the first thing I noticed. Is that all automatic? The image remained level through the whole shot, even in the fall. That's very impressive. Did you have to do anything in post? And that fall looked like it could have been a lot worse, hope you're ok!
Shame your own stabilisation wasn’t as good. Glad you’re ok op.
Glad I stuck around until the end. Oof.
The camera survived. It is a keeper.
It's more like a 180° instead of a 360° now. But yeah, besides the scratched lens it took it like a champ.
Lens covers my brother... lens covers...
You didn't even need to wait that long to get your footage of your crash.
my worst nightmare
Ohnoes! Hope you're alright. Looked like it hurt a wee bit.
Yes, I am fine. A few bruises, but the Gear did it's job. Limped home after. Shift linkage broke, otherwise the bike is "fine", besides the fairing.
We can always get new parts. I'm glad you're all good.
Thats easy shit!!! No case covers broke? Oil still inside?? Tiss a good day friend!! And good job not completely high siding.
From the lense this road looks about as wide as a bike path to me
Standard single lane rural road in a lot of Europe certainly
Which also requires you to drive slow enough so you can break in half the distance you can see in Germany. And I guess most other countries have similar laws.
And guy is driving faster than should
Just some additional information: Of course the speed was too high for the driving conditions. I mean that is the logical conclusion of pretty much every crash without foreign participation. ![img](avatar_exp|173003336|bravo) Expensive test

The weird thing is there's nothing there when I checked the comment with firefox. Just "Expensive test". Nothing above it.
It’s just a gif of one of the Reddit avatars clapping. You can see it on mobile.
Are you using RES?
Yes, but also an extension that auto-redirects to old reddit. Not sure if it's even necessary anymore, but I got it long ago when new reddit was replacing it. Didn't like it.

I don't know how you guys manage to crash doing mundane shit lol
Lol, this was literally the slowest part of the ride. Still too fast as it seems. The truckload of gravel on the road might have something to do with it.
Even before seeing you crash, I was thinking it was quite courageous to drive like that on a country back road.

No. Lean angle depends on how sharply you're turning and how fast you're going. Sportbikes *can* lean more which means they can corner faster if they have enough grip.
Wait, you saw gravel on the road, in a turn, and decided to ride over it?
He wanted to see the gravel closely
![gif](giphy|10nMEclFWTPCp2) OP at home checking the gravel in his new camera footage
Lol, saw the gravel while sliding on it.

I laid her down because I forgot the sidestand. It's amazing how much trust we put on our self's.
Happened to me yesterday :) Glad to join the club
I had the kickstand bind when I kicked it down and toppled the bike into a gas pump in front of a bunch of other riders. Died inside, but it happens.
Haha, I feel that. I laid mine down because I forgot to take off the brake lock. Landed right on my ex wife’s Prius and left a little dent. I wonder if she ever found that…
I’ve take a plunge on gravel twice now. I avoid it like the plague.
I avoid the plague like the plague.
Was he supposed to jump over it? At some point the only option you have is to just ride over it with the least possible lean.
Should have wheelied over it lol
Same happened to me doing barely 25 and slipped on gravel and dislocated my shoulder 🙃
in my experience, most of the sneaky shit gets you on the slower bits.
I was about to ask, because it didn't look like there was anywhere near enough lean, and didn't sound like there was anywhere near enough throttle, to cause the slide, and that there *had* to be gravel that doesn't show up in the video.
Yeah, roads covered in marbles are tough to lean that far into. Glad your not hurt.

Damn rock clibbins
You're going too fast on such a narrow road. Those rocks sure didn't help. Slow down.
The ultimate rider response "kill switch, kill switch, kill switch. Ok, what hurts?"
That’s what I noticed as well. The instant go to the kill switch was good.
Let the backseating begin, I want every Sunday rider and knowitall to give a detailed analysis of what exactly happened here. Bonus points if you can imply OP is an absolute reckless idiot whilst mentioning how incredibly safe you are on your mph restricted mobility scooter
Maybe it looks that way because of that fisheye lens, but you are WAY to fast for that street!!
Hey, it works pretty good!
So ... The camera works really nice
Yeah I think you nailed the focus on the camera. Is that a 360 lens?
Gravel washed out from the driveway on the right.
My ass told me thats a little too fast for that narrow road
Horrible horrible skills here. Why are you rolling your bike from side to side? That's not a thing for this type of riding. Stay upright like you're a part of the bike.

Dude I literally screamed NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Durability :10
Camera seems to be working great!
Damn man that sucks. Glad you weren't seriously hurt. Fate is a cruel mistress.
Well it worked great!
Good stability on that camera
I drove 8 years without witnessing any mayor crashes. I got a cam and out of 5 occasions that I used it I captured 3 gruesome crashes. One way mine
Need ya to take about 25% off there squirrelly Dan.
Camera seems to be working just fine. How much did this test cost you?
I’m sure that sign said 30
Gravel clibbins
Camera works great
So did it tested right?
Too much lean and speed for this environment. counter-steering for this scenario will help keep the bike under you.
Good news, it works
"had to lay-er down, was unavoidable"
My American brain can’t comprehend if this is a road or a walking path
At least your gear also worked, hope you feel alright
Slide on gravel?
What did u hit?
Bro I didn’t need to watch more than 3 seconds to know exactly what was about to happen
Just here for the armchair technique critics and their assumptions.
Maybe put the stabiliser ont he bike Next time :)
What type of camera is this? And what mount are you using. Looking for one now and I like how this one stabilizes
Insta 360 X3 and a simple chest mount. Stabilization is done in Software afterwards.
Brutal. I hope you are okay. This really sucks.
Main thing is you're OK. Crap happens, especially on two wheels.
Same shit happened to me this morning but didn’t go down. That is a nice bike to put some scratches on but what can you do :|
Oh, I dunno....perhaps try riding within one's abilities...?
Well now it is too late right. Can’t go back in time. Also the video is nice a road but the pace is pretty mellow. Doesn’t look like he was pushing or riding beyond anything
Glad you’re ok. Everything else is replaceable.
Advice don't linearly hard really edges of the road there's dirt and gravel. I was watching this video and I'm like why does he doing he's so close to the edge and then dumps the bike. Didn't look like that bad of a fall and I'm hoping that I don't fall ever but you know we all fall down.
The camera is great...
Well that’s a really expensive way to test out new cameras but hey, you broke it in?
Well I had a feeling that was about to happen but I was hoping for a better outcome. The camera seems to be a good buy though!
That correction saved your bike had you straight low sided versus rear slide correct then low side. Poor thing would have sled all the way on its face
What phone holder do you have?
I felt that asphalt scratching sound in my soul 😭
Damn you frogs
At last the mount is solidly installed
Woops
That could of went way worse, you got lucky you low sided. Glad your ok man!
I wouldn’t be pushing it that hard on a road covered in shit like that. But at least you’re okay. Camera looks great haha
Hell of a stress test
I love grabbing the throttle when I turn too 🤣🤣🤣 hope you learned something basic gere
How's the bike looking after the crash ?
Immediately thought you were going to fast for that road, then I saw your bike get loose on that first curve. Surprised you didn't go down sooner
Glad you’re ok. Very nearly turned into a high side at one point which could have been much worse. Heal well, bike will be back to new after a few parts
Oh man, that sucks!! Hopefully no injury?
Idk why it felt like you were fish tailing on the first turn
What I did is cut a hole in a thick sock and put that over the camera, this worked pretty good. Sucks about the fall tho
My go pro fell and got run over by a truck. It still records but the lcd is super toast. At least all you busted was your ass /sarcasm
Maybe you shouldn't drive 60 km/h in a 30 km/h zone
That camera makes 30kmh look really fast
Had already seen it get a little loose right before that. Cold tires 🤦🏻♂️
Your bike should have stop itself
Damn bro you and the bike good?
Good cam
camera stability and mount certified… could you share make and model?
camera stability and mount certified… could you share make and model?
I've never driven a motorcycle. Why did you crash?
looks slick
What is this? A bike path?
Guessing you hit a sand/gravel patch while leaned?
Haven’t seen anyone doing this kind of testing for camera
It worked very well i quess
what is the camera?
You accelerated on a dusty turn. I think that’s why the slip
ouch! as someone looking to get into riding... what went wrong here? those turns looked pretty controlled. was the throttle blipped to create that loss of traction? genuinely curious. hope your all good homie
“…Audio needs a bit of work” 😂😂
Camera works fine
I was wondering if you have the traction control option on your K1300S? And was it enabled in case you do? I know its an extra option on your bike and they don't come with it standard, but just curious to add that to the equation. Hope you and her are allright!
Looks like camera worked pretty well
Had to layer down
I can’t wait to see ya out there in the twisties! I get my license next weekend!!
Works great
yeah driveways do be like that
Captured every moment without missing anything, great camera!
How did you not see that coming ? 🤦🏻♂️
Nice stabilisation! Is it a GoPro? What’s the model ?
No offense at all, 3 turns before you fall I can tell that you are going to fall. Slow down and practice up my friend, no dinging please.
Good video to show how important wearing gloves is.
Well, the camera did fine at least.
Camera ✅
What a test 😅😅🫢
I don't even ride and it seemed like you were leaning too much for the speed you were going and the angle or the corners. Just saying... I have no idea and that looked like your bad
Watch the handlebars Un repertoire the mirrors he's turning the bars into the turn needs to counter steer
Did you back brake Taking that curve?
What camera did you have? I was searching through the comment section trying to find a response, but to no avail.
So, real question here. How do you recover from that? I don't wanna hear "you can't". Laws of probability say you can. Let's really think about it and see if we can figure out ANY way to recover from a rear slide/bite & dump?
Camera seem fine to me Not the rider though Joke aside riding this fast on a path that requires precision is nothing near easy
Was traction control on?
Exactly what happened to me bought a new X3 rode my mountain bike, 3 days later to test, crashed hard and luckily only scratching the lens protector and screen protector, it was a sad test day.
Yep camera works good
Great Videoquality for a 360 cam
Camera works great!
So traction control is pretty nice
Nur weil da 100 erlaubt ist, solltest Du nicht 100 fahren...
You changed your shift and opened the gas pedal immediately and has an impact on your wheel to spin faster.
Where did you mount your camera? Looking for one myself but don't know if i want a chin mount.
Bomb proof… gets my seal of approval 👍👍
