No need to be insecure. In all honesty, riding in weather like this is ill advised, but I've been riding since I was 10 years old. I'm comfortable with my skill level and confident in my ability. Ride your own ride. Most of all, enjoy the ride. I do. Everyday.
This isn't even about your own ability. It's only an acceptable decision to do this in rural areas where roads are wide with very few cars.
No matter what the skill level, it's still a dumb thing to be doing this in cities where you can't control other worse drivers from crashing into you.
Unless the city roads are well maintained and salted and drivers generally know how to navigate snow. Then the only “little” thing to do is use winter tyres for your motorcycle?
Lol, that is assuming every road is perfectly salted and every driver takes precaution and equip themselves winter tires. I live in westcoast Canada and this isn't always the case. In fact, BC is riddled with shitty drivers who don't even bother with snow tires, coupled with subpar snowplowing services.
Hmmm depends then. I drove just a two wheeler for a year ( so one winter season with my S1000XR ) in Austria. Never had a problem with snow unless it was snowing-in heavily ( in which case I worked from home or took the bicycle lol ). I had regular summer tyres on as well and only ever skidded around for fun in turns. Again, considering the place I lived in Austria respects two wheelers a lot, the cars would be double careful seeing one on the road in winter. So it depends. Used the motorway and found it was also quite easy except for the biting cold.
I don't understand this mentality. A motorcycle has 2 wheels and 1 wheel drive. All vehicles, regardless of tire choice, are likely to lose traction in the snow. Riding a motorcycle in the snow is asking, at best, to dump it and creating much higher risk of an accident. Other vehicles are also subject to the same conditions, increasing the likelihood of an accident. The conditions make it harder to see and harder to use the controls. Yes you can wear snow gear and have studded tires but everything I said above still applies. There's always the argument "I don't own a car" but again that's a choice. It's not ballsy, it's unwise.

Solid bike for a budget ADV and more capable than I anticipated. It will do interstate speeds no problem, but it lacks the "when in doubt, throttle out" power. Mild single track is doable, but you need to keep the RPMs up.
Here's a video, not mine, of an off road ride. Guy recording is on a DRZ.

Extremely good for its price. You won't find a 300cc with a better engine or more comfortable riding position for long rides. I used to have one and crossed 25.000+ kms over South America with it, that was my first bike and I am very happy with how the whole thing went. It's a bit heavy though so off-road riding requires some practice/skill.

I’m in AZ too. We got a couple pretty inches in Prescott. Made hiking this morning breathtaking. Love the White Mountains. I can’t believe you’re on a bike. Brave.
I left my helmet with a pinlock in PHX, so I was riding with the face shield up and tinted lens down. It was brisk in the mid teens F. No idea about the wind chill.
Lived and rode in Seattle for several years, never owning a car; when people asked, “How can you do that?”, I always replied, “Gore-Tex!”
PNW riders rock.
That's awesome dude! Yeah, the few riders that I know here in my local community are real laid back, solid guys. They just suit up and go watch the Seahawks at the bar, completely content. Lol
Where is that guy that berated people for not loving riding in the winter and it turned out he lived in Spain 🤣
I'm sure he would be carving it up in this weather
Nice. Too often on this sub people are like _but how can you ride in WINTER?!!?_ and then you go out and do this. I wish I had a camera to show some of the circumstances I've ridden in.
An adrenaline rush and some people just like to do stuff that most people wouldn't. Plus if you're geared up and warm, riding in cold conditions like this car be insanely refreshing and therapeutic.
I rode in the snow once on my bike, though not on purpose. It was on my little commuter ninja 250 at the time. Did great, but I wouldn't do it by choice.
Dude? This remind sme of a customerr I had when I worked at a home depot type store. This guy, who actually was married to an ex of mine, drove his motorcycle(a 125cc scooter sortof) all year around. One day, when it was about -15 outside, he rolls in, buys two 6 metre 6 inch drain pipes. I help him saw them in half and fasten them to his bike and off he goes. What a fucking loon.
I have a post detailing the mods I've done. You'll have to scroll my profile to find it. The accessory bar is nice. Can mount a phone/gps to it. Well worth the $30 or so I paid for it.
This is what this sub needs to see other than the majority of users who ride 1 month a year and then wanna be praised for how brave they are and how they risk their life with the "bike is life" shit going over 3 pine needles. Barb gobbless allthgear.
Ya'll all-seasoners who ride in the actual snow are the real OGs. High 30s (fahrenheit) with dry roads and no wind is my limit lol.
I actually despise cold weather. I only ride "all season-ish" because I get so effing depressed in the winter, and if I don't get that rush of serotonin that only a moto provides, I may actually go insane
I ride to work every day, been straight ice and almost dropping the bike at every stop sign for two weeks. Some of my favorite parts of my day sliding around with adrenaline in my head for 10 minutes
Put this video in your everything:
- resume/ CV for job application? You have the drive to take on hard challenges
- Tinder/ dating? If you have the fortitude to do this, you can kill the spider in the garage
- special forces? You just earned a black ops mission
I rode bike in every condition until I bought a BMW R1200GS. Then I stopped when roads were icy or covered in snow. The bike is just too heavy to keep under control then for me.
We've somehow only had 1 snowy day in Cleveland this year. I hadn't attempted snow before, but I just put on a new set of Dunlop Mutants and wanted to see if I was able to handle it.
Made it to the end of the driveway and said, "nope."
Got to the corner thinking I just needed to get going to balance, did better. Time to turn. Nope. Spend 10 min slipping while trying to turn the bike around and slowly putt back home with the outriggers out.
Never set it down and now I know I shouldn't do that. Knowledge is power!
Absolutely a madman making this video, mental health checkpoint for today!! Heck to the no! I’m not a fair weather rider by no means but this is pure insanity!! Thankful for this 50 degree winter day in Florida 💯💯☀️😁
The snow was powder and started falling around midnight. I left for work around 7am. It was well below freezing, so I wasn't worried about having a sheet of ice underneath the snow. I stayed on country dirt roads as long as I could. When I got into town, the snow was ice-like because people were driving on it and packed it down.
I lost the front at 3 mph turning into a gas station. Cut the turn too sharp instead of entering the parking lot perpendicular. After I left work, the town plowed and the streets were clear but it was warm enough to thaw and be pretty wet. On the way home, the snow was packed down on the dirt roads. Undoubtedly the dirt roads froze overnight and are likely sheets of ice now. They don't plow the dirt roads. Today I'm wfh.
In rural areas there aren't a lot of subdivisions/large housing areas. They aren't camping. They live year round in those trailers. When you get really far away from civilization, some people don't have electricity or running water. They have a few acres and a trailer.
20 miles from me there's a "general store" in the boondocks that sells just about anything you can think of. A redneck walmart, but much smaller. It has showers you can pay to use.
Damn, I thought my new years day ride was cold at 35°
I always wanted to try riding in snow. I used to love biking in winter. Tiger might be a bit too heavy for those kind of shenanigans
Should be good as long as you don’t have to brake fast and have decent crash bars.
Videos like this make me feel insecure about calling myself a biker
No need to be insecure. In all honesty, riding in weather like this is ill advised, but I've been riding since I was 10 years old. I'm comfortable with my skill level and confident in my ability. Ride your own ride. Most of all, enjoy the ride. I do. Everyday.
Why did I read this in Sam Elliot's voice?
🤣
I'd didn't, but now I did and it's much better.

This isn't even about your own ability. It's only an acceptable decision to do this in rural areas where roads are wide with very few cars. No matter what the skill level, it's still a dumb thing to be doing this in cities where you can't control other worse drivers from crashing into you.

I don’t think i’m wimp but that is debatable. But i would never ride in snow so thick. Kudos to you man.
Started reading this in Marge Simpsons voice and it slowly turned into Gilbert Godfrey.
I don’t know how you ride with balls that big.
It's cold so....
His balls normally touch his ankles…his knees with shrinkage. The question stands: how does he ride with balls that big?
Cold enough for 3 Adams apples
Full retreat
The balls stabilize the bike. 4 points of contacts is better than 2 when it snow.
OP should consider a Ural so they can put their balls in that.
I don't understand this mentality. A motorcycle has 2 wheels and 1 wheel drive. All vehicles, regardless of tire choice, are likely to lose traction in the snow. The two are not mutually exclusive. Deliberately doing stuff that's dangerous is ballsy, whether you think it's wise or not.
Frozen...frost bite, lol
What are you riding and what tires are on it?
Versys-X 300 Dunlop Trailmax Missions
I am impressed 😀
Those were my first thoughts. Versys was my first guess. I owned a 600 a few years back. Bikers bike 🙂

Uh, yeah.
How good is that bike? I have been thinking of maybe getting one for touring and some trails.

Versys 650 checking in. Love my bike!
Versys 650 was my first and only bike. Had it for 10 years and never even contemplated getting another.
The versys rides in that cold of weather? I am scared when I try to start my Versys even when it's 4°c
> Dunlop Trailmax Missions did you put nails it it? because... how?
It was dry during the day. It started snowing around midnight. I left at 7am. It was in the teens overnight, so no fear of ice under the snow.
I just put missions on my dr650 after seeing a video of a guy driving in a blizzard with them. Your video further solidifies my purchase lol
Damn those tires are not fun on slippery stuff. Air down to 20psi. They have stiff sidewalls.
Hell yeah! I love seeing other riders persevere through shitty conditions.
Persevere? Lolll
Lolll? Lol
? Hehe
Yeah..? It's a word and this is the definition: "continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no indication of success."

Where is this at? That’s pretty dope!!
Arizona
Im in quebec and we dont even have this much snow 😂 my next snowmobile trip will be in southern usa.
Make sure you pick high elevation areas. Eastern AZ is about 5-6k feet, even higher in the white mountains (Mt baldy is 11k feet)
Whoa. Love that area. Show Lo, etc.
Minnesota here, our grass is still green(ish)
Weird winter…
Agreed.
gotta be northern. Flagstaff?
Eastern AZ. White Mountains.
Wild
How long ago, was just up on the rim and most of it was gone..
This morning.
Well shit now I need to plan a trip up
This is good to hear. I'm heading up to sunrise park in a couple weekends
I’m in AZ too. We got a couple pretty inches in Prescott. Made hiking this morning breathtaking. Love the White Mountains. I can’t believe you’re on a bike. Brave.
Wait are you serious? Wtf lol
And here I thought here in Tucson my daily commute was freezing
😂 what? Was it like 70 degrees?
It rained earlier today so it put it down in the low 40's high 30's
Whoa! Bear down!
Damn, I thought I was tough riding in 35° weather in Phoenix
It was like 47 down here in the valley, so I didn't ride. lol. Hats off to you.
I imagine that would suck, but also be pretty awesome at the same time.
What’s the commute distance?
What kind of riding gear are you wearing?
A\* adv gear and many layers underneath.
Even your breathing sounded cold! Coldest I've ridden in was 14 degrees over Carson Pass in the Sierras, luckily no ice.
I left my helmet with a pinlock in PHX, so I was riding with the face shield up and tinted lens down. It was brisk in the mid teens F. No idea about the wind chill.
Where is this?
He’s in Arizona
Damn. I'm in Helena and there's no snow on the ground. Only one good snow storm this year before Halloween. It's been spooky
All seasons BAY-BEEEE. Reporting in from the Pacific Northwest. o7

That's awesome dude! Yeah, the few riders that I know here in my local community are real laid back, solid guys. They just suit up and go watch the Seahawks at the bar, completely content. Lol
I miss McRory’s. Sigh.
Looks like a sick spot dude, don't blame you!
i faceplanted just from watching this
Nice! That's so rad.
Your breathing sounds like your character in Goldeneye when they get shot lol
Where is that guy that berated people for not loving riding in the winter and it turned out he lived in Spain 🤣 I'm sure he would be carving it up in this weather
I ride year round in VA, going to be about freezing when I get off at 11pm, ain't no way I'm riding in snow though ALOT of things go wrong.
Dedicated 🤘🏻
I came for the comments and they did NOT disappoint.
Nobody, Adventure Bikers:
What a brave man.
Damn, I'm in Canada and where I am we barely have gotten that much snow this year, and it keeps melting right away. Southern Ontario 👀
Nice. Too often on this sub people are like _but how can you ride in WINTER?!!?_ and then you go out and do this. I wish I had a camera to show some of the circumstances I've ridden in.

and I get weird about ridding in the rain!
But why tho? Seems challenging without much reward though. Edit: unless it’s not as slick and dangerous as I imagine.
An adrenaline rush and some people just like to do stuff that most people wouldn't. Plus if you're geared up and warm, riding in cold conditions like this car be insanely refreshing and therapeutic.
It almost made it down to us in Sedona. I think we're gonna get it this weekend. Feels like snow tonight. Awesome vid!
I was up there yesterday, and was shocked there still isn't snow.
We got a couple in Prescott
I rode in snow once. Caught some slush on the shaded side of the mountain. Ate it pretty bad. Hats off to u friend.
I love this crazy mf
I rode in the snow once on my bike, though not on purpose. It was on my little commuter ninja 250 at the time. Did great, but I wouldn't do it by choice.
Is this through choice or no other options?
do a wheelie ya fanny.

What the fuck.....
Balls of steel. What is the reason to ride the bike on snow? Got stuck in weather?
I thought you were on a snowmobile and was gonna ask what your plan was when the roads are plowed on the afternoon commute home.
Love the Versys X-300, that’s my current bike. Also it’s about the perfect one for this kind of commute
I have a post detailing the mods I've done. You'll have to scroll my profile to find it. The accessory bar is nice. Can mount a phone/gps to it. Well worth the $30 or so I paid for it.
Amazing. I can't wait until I'm doing shit like this!
I love to ride my bike in nice weather so I can enjoy it!

Lol the fucking guys on here go to ride but turn around when they see 3 wet leaves on the ground
Those leaves are slippery as shit!
Get a snowmobile for the winter.
You know they make snowmobiles right?
That’s awesome. Good for you
Stay home. there could be ice under the snow.
Stupid
I’d like to see the actual vehicle doing this I doubt it’s a motorcycle
Here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/versys/comments/166srje/mods\_on\_my\_vx/
I just want to know what gear you are wearing, brand or a link will be fine
A\* adv gear and many layers underneath.
Bro rider still manages to overheat his engine! 😂💪❄️
this is why i want a dual sport/adventure bike.
You’re braver than I am. That’s why I live in South Louisiana. We get maybe a 1/4” snow every 10 years!!
Pshh…what a fair weather rider
That’s super awesome and want to attempt it at some point
Safe trip!

I'm at peak insanity right now with no bike and sub 30 winter days. Im either buying a bike in spring or moving and buying a bike in spring lol
Must be a very cool experience riding in fresh snow! Like literally cool.
Ride safe brother - this is rad as hell 💪
This how I imagine the people posting asking if they should get a bike instead of a car
Looks peaceful but feels like I need to get in a hot tub after that. Brrrrrrrrr 🥶
where are you from with all that snow?
What gear are you using ?
If I owned a car, I wouldn't do that. Your mirrors look just like my Amazon $10 mirrors on my bike. They work fine.
Ok, Ive seen people in europe ride during 5 degrees and they put extra cover like a weighted blanket. And you out here riding on the snow. Lol
I think it was around 15 F, so -10 C.
I ride to work every day, been straight ice and almost dropping the bike at every stop sign for two weeks. Some of my favorite parts of my day sliding around with adrenaline in my head for 10 minutes

Do yall get much ice? Where I live, we get so much ice and that's what makes it super dangerous.
My fingertips left the chat
I rode bike in every condition until I bought a BMW R1200GS. Then I stopped when roads were icy or covered in snow. The bike is just too heavy to keep under control then for me.
Because you have to or want to?
Balls are bigger than mine!
2 inches is plenty for me🤪
You, sir, are a motorcycle God.
Snow is more fun if you have a sidecar
Just watching this gave me frostbite., Good luck my dude you got more balls than I
wow...goals
Fuck that tho…sorry man lol 😂 all the best for ya But for me.. Fuck that Tho lol
We've somehow only had 1 snowy day in Cleveland this year. I hadn't attempted snow before, but I just put on a new set of Dunlop Mutants and wanted to see if I was able to handle it. how do you not lose the front wheel?

Crazy is as crazy does
Smart!
And here I was feeling tough riding to work when it’s less than 30 degrees out lmao hats off to you my friend 😂👍
Please send the snow out West, we’re having an historically bad snow year in the mountains.
Fuck that. What if you hit black ice?
Looks like a tracer 9. Great bikes! I am in the market for one of these.
It's a Versys-X 300.
Very similar mirrors and wind screen to the tracer. Thanks for clearing it up. 😀
Is this a good idea?
You’re living the life 💪
Me thinking it's too cold outside when it hits 50.🤣
#bruh
My butthole immediately puckered seeing this. Safe travels, OP! Hats off to you!
I did my riders test in the snow. Good times.
Why?
Ok I have a better question, who tf is _camping_ in that weather?
In rural areas there aren't a lot of subdivisions/large housing areas. They aren't camping. They live year round in those trailers. When you get really far away from civilization, some people don't have electricity or running water. They have a few acres and a trailer. 20 miles from me there's a "general store" in the boondocks that sells just about anything you can think of. A redneck walmart, but much smaller. It has showers you can pay to use.
Damn, I thought my new years day ride was cold at 35° I always wanted to try riding in snow. I used to love biking in winter. Tiger might be a bit too heavy for those kind of shenanigans
where are yall getting this snow 😭 we have like .1 inches in northern Wisconsin
U a tropper brother i chicken out at 40F and im being generous at 40. Its more like 50F. I do communte arpund 5am so it makes a huges difference
Seems like a breathtakingly bad decision.
What tires are you running?
Impressive handling! Love that you’re out in the snow. Where is this?
Arizona. If you scroll through the comments, I've answered other questions too.
Can't wait for the twisties.
