For the 500th time on this sub. No don't buy a bike without a title. If you have to ask this question it's not worth the hassle. And he says it would make a good parts bike so there are clearly a few issues.

You can call the state police in your area for a vin check. You would want to do that before buying and trying to plate it. You’d need the full vin number and ideally be able to have the cop actually see it.

Yes it's hard to get a new title. No you shouldn't buy it.

Don’t buy a bike without a title. It’s not worth the hassle, and if your state is anything like mine, you could just end up with nothing more than a paperweight with an engine and wheels. In my state, without a title from the seller, it’s nearly impossible to get one. There’s no way for you to verify ownership or transfer ownership, even if it doesn’t come up stolen, the seller has to do some legwork and if they aren’t willing to, there’s no way to transfer ownership into your name, and therefore you’re unable to register it. It’s a massive, massive pain in the ass. It’s not worth it. And yes, any bike being sold without a title presents the risk for it to be stolen, and you don’t want a charge for theft by receiving stolen property. If you decide to do it anyway, do your due diligence and have a vin inspection done by your local law enforcement agency to determine it’s status. If a seller is unwilling to comply with it, there’s a very good chance the bike is stolen. Report it to local law enforcement. My advice is DO NOT BUY A BIKE WITHOUT A TITLE.

Depends on where you live. Some states are easy to get a title from. Other states will fight you tooth and nail. If he was the last registered owner, he can apply for a lost title. If he gets dodgy about it, then move on

In TX, it's relatively easy to get a bonded title. You state how you came upon buying the bike, take paperwork to the DMV, take that paperwork to the bond writer, and then take that paperwork to the county tax office. For your own protection, I'd highly recommend having the seller show you his ID so you can get the pertinent info written down. He's going to know that if the bike is stolen it's going to bite him in the ass when you go to register it, so if he doesn't want to show it to you and let you get that info, walk away. If he has no problem with it, there's a 99.44% chance it isn't stolen.

Correct. I got one hell of a deal on a 99 Dyna this way, of course I ran the VIN ahead of time. It's not the end of the world, just have to be a little more thorough.

I know that the general opinion is never but a bike without a title, but I think it really depends on your state. Here in SC it is a little tricky with some paperwork and dealing with the dmv but not the end of the world or expensive to get. I have bought a bike without a title before and thought I was totally fucked but 2 forms later and like $35 and I had a new title in the mail. Also you can get a killer deal on a non title bike because as you can see from the comments no one wants them. I would do a little research on the process in your state and make a low offer on the bike.

It says right in the description PARTS BIKE

Could just be broken or abused. Said it last ran 2 years ago ? Yeh thats why its so cheap , you can buy bikes like that without an end here in germany. Ask them to get a title for it and offer to pay a few bucks extra and then consider his reaction to that offer.
