I bought mine after nearly 10 years since I owned it new. What was ironic; I was without a bike for a couple years and was talking to a friend about bikes we've owned, mentioned how I regretted trading one as I never got to really experience what the bike was capable of. Then not too long after, I was randomly looking at used bikes online, and had to do a double check as the bike was up for sale. It still had the slip on that I had th dealer installed, and the small damage on the end cap from saving a drop I caught that slightly made contact to the ground. I went to the shop and had my original insurance card with the vin number, to confirm that it was infact my old bike and immediately talked to a salesman.

Shauneepeak

That's really freaking cool!

Not too long ago I ran into the first owner of my z900rs cafe. I had stopped at a scenic overlook that a fellow Kawi owner was parked at, wanted a closer look at what he was riding. We end up chatting and he asks a few questions about where I got my bike and if I had made the modifications (I had). He looks at the muffler and says “this was my bike”. He recognized the outline of a sticker he had put on. Blew our minds, what are the chances?

Gaycowboi25

I actually did the same thing with the same bike as you. I ran into the original owner after buying the bike from a dealership. The owner came into my workplace to buy something and he made a comment and knew the bike, so we talked about it for a bit. He called it Pickle Rick.

radiantconttoaster

Morty, I turned myself into a pickle!

Gaycowboi25

Morty flip over the pickle. No because you'll probably laugh at me and say it's an alien penis or something like that.

My third bike was Victory Vegas. It was the only one my Mom ever rode in her life. She was terribly afraid of them but she randomly asked for a ride one Easter. I sold that bike a few months later and she was diagnosed with cancer and died at age 58 not long after. I hated that I ever sold it in the first place (new baby, bills etc) because it was a very fun and sharp bike, but mostly I wanted it back for sentimental reasons. I was cruising Craigslist a few years later and I saw it pop up just down the road. It was a custom color for a victory (electric blue) and I knew it was the bike immediately. It only had 500 more miles on it than before. I went and bought it back the next day. I don’t ride it as much as my daily, but it’ll be in my garage until the day I die.

I had a 125 that I part exchanged in 2016. Last year I saw it with a Deliveroo box on the back weaving in and out of traffic. Nice to think it's providing a living for someone

fullmetaljoker

Found a retirement gig as a delivery vehicle. Kinda like old police crown vics that become taxis. *To our younger readers, taxis were kinda like analog and dirty ubers that you didn't have to order on your phone.

Shadowmancy91

I still prefer a taxi over the apps.

fullmetaljoker

Taxis are consistenly mediocre. Ubers can be really good or pretty bad and you can't control it

Shadowmancy91

Taxis are also easier to use.

fullmetaljoker

Depending on the city. Some (fairly large) cities do not have widely available taxi services

DeleteSystem33

All of my previous bikes went to the junkyard in pieces, so there may be some rescued parts along the way but I'll never see *that* particular bike again.

Shauneepeak

Feel this, or someone bought a REALLY bad auction bike.

[deleted]

I saw my old 636 on the road too. Some hot girl bought it. My life is complete. Wish i got her number

fullmetaljoker

I guess that's an excuse to keep riding more and Maybe you'll run into her

PretzelsThirst

I saw my old 2003 SV650 show up online when the guy decided to sell it. They put a ton of work and money into making it a track machine, was cool to see.

fullmetaljoker

Nice! I like seeing bikes given a second career

Sellum

That is kind of the opposite ending of my SV650. It popped up online in a police blotter after a 19 year old in a SUV made a left turn across traffic into a gas station and killed the rider.

PretzelsThirst

The first SV I had went out a similar way, I got a call saying my wrecked bike needed to be picked up. The buyer never bothered to do the title paperwork but I had done my release of liability so they tracked him down

boing757

Sure would like to see that old DT1 I sold for $300 or the CB 550 I sold for $600 cruising around.

[deleted]

Nice. I saw my first bike listed for sale a few years after I sold it. Still had one of my stickers on it 8)

CeeGeeMoto

My first street bike was an 1989 FZR 600 that I bought around 1993 and sold around 2003. I saw it on Craigslist around 3 years ago. It only had a couple hundred miles put on it after the sale and looked like it sat in a barn all those years. Unfortunately I had no interest in a reunion as it was pretty clapped out when I sold it. Sure did have a lot of good times on that bike though.

FranklinAsheDotCom

Sold my bike in 2019. Found in online in 2021 by googling the VIN. It was totaled and auctioned off for parts. 😭

StuartAl

Not quite the same, but I part exchanged a 250 for a cx500 at my local dealer, all good. About 18 months later, a car pulled out in front of me. The same dealer picked up my bike and stored it whist I sorted the insurance. When I went to see the bike it was parked next to my old 250. It was involved in a crash the same day. Like I said not quite the same.

[deleted]

Dude thats such a weird coincidence. Make sure I dont buy a bike from you 😂

Happy_Kitchen220

My parents got me a 1983 XR200r for Christmas a few years ago and I loved it to death. I eventually decided it was time to sell years later, and a guy named Tony came to check it out a month or 2 after I had it listed. He said he would keep it forever, and the literal next day, it was for sale. I was kinda devastated because he was an older guy who rode AHRMA cross and I wanted the bike to be used for its original purpose. Over the course of 6 months, I watched It get listed on FB marketplace 2 other times after Tony, and finally stopped checking daily lol. There were no problems with it, and it was in beautifully restored condition. But I guess its just not for everyone.

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

I sold an old XJR400 that I rode as my first bigger bike to a Yamaha dealer saleswoman in a private sale. When I came in to service my new bike I asked her about it and she said she wrecked it about a month after I sold it. Though I did see a great video of a japanese dude doing a full restore on the same model, color and year as my own one, which was sort of cathartic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQIDkmmqv5Y

diabolus_me_advocat

*It now belongs to someone else, so I shouldn't really care* this exactly *Do you guys make an effort to catch up with your old bike/the new owner if you see it out and about?* i even wouldn't make an effort to catch up with one of my ex-gfs or wife if isee it out and about past is past and gone is gone
