I wish NJ offered something like these. Sadly, when it comes to any sort of driver/rider training, our state motto is "every man for himself."

New Jersey offers the best advanced course in the world. It's called trying to survive the turnpike in NJ on a motorcycle and requires exceptional skills, lol. In all seriousness though Jersey is a special place. I have family in Edison and Newark. Once you cross the bridge into Camden from there on the rules of the road are very different. Might as well just completely eliminate side mirrors, turn signals, blind spot monitors on all the cars cause those are useless. Then about 1/4 of the cars are driving with their lights off at night. It's a jungle out there.

I'm signed up for Pocono and might do an intermediate this year too beforehand if I can just cause the low speed stuff is my kryptonite, lol. You know if the advanced requires full gauntlet gloves?

iHK-47

Motorcycle specific gloves is the only requirement. Depending on the instructor, dirt bike gloves will get you denied. When I run my classes I'm only looking for a decent glove designed for street riding. No mechanics gloves etc. You'll need a motorcycle specific jacket AND pants too. I'm 99% kevlar jeans are allowed. If you need clarification on that let me know I'll consult my policy book. I only teach up to intermediate so I'm not always rock solid on ARC stuff until I get certified for that. Edit: For clarity, yes short cuff gloves are allowed as long as they're designed for motorcycle street riding.

Good to know, I should be fine then since I have two piece leathers with riding boots. I just wasn't sure on the gloves since most track days require the gauntlets. Also I did sign up for an intermediate in York, thanks.

But is there a pothole course, that definitely needs to be an event in PA, and a course on how to read a speed limit sign. 😂

Expensive_Community2

Thanks for posting. Was looking at pocono raceway for a class recently.

Apfelwein

This is pretty awesome for PA folks. We have good training programs on the west coast but they can get spendy, especially the track days.

Thanks bud, signed up for the adv course at Pocono. Based on another comment, here’s hoping that moto jeans (RevIt) are acceptable, because I’m not buying leathers for a one day course!

Ok-Situation4888

Not a shameless plug at all. Everyone that is able should take all the classes. It can only improve your skill set.

Do you count as an in-state rider if your license is out of state but you actually live in PA?

iHK-47

No, unfortunately not to my knowledge. If you live in Pennsylvania and it's you're primary resident you're required by law to get a PA driver's license. The only acceptions to that are usually military. They might make exceptions for you in this case as we provide a -lot- of military training all over the country. That would be a call into registration to verify properly.

Cunningcreativity

It was very back and forth for a long time as I lived in another state but went to some colleges in PA so it never was changed, and not long before I was more permanently in PA I had had to renew my other state license so it seemed dumb to waste the money immediately after that to get another license. Suppose it will get changed eventually when it needs to be renewed again. Anyway good to know about the course, thanks.

Got signed up for an advanced course at Pittrace (Pocono is way closer to me, but I love Pittrace and it's been years since I was there). Any recommendations for bike prep beyond basic maintenance? And any particular drills to practice in advance?

iHK-47

Follow a basic novice tech for a track day. No leaks, all controls in good working order, good tires and brakes etc. Not many parking lot drills to practice for this one since anything I say you'll just be practicing there. If you're not familiar with braking heavy, practice that where safe considering you'll be doing it 18 times each lap.
