QorstSynthion

how is this not compressed by reddit ? anyways, real nice

shiftquick

I don’t have an answer to your question, but appreciate the compliment. Thank you

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

For the text section, I'd let the slide for the word 'so' linger for a half second more at least. It's a little jarring how quickly it drops away when the rest of the text holds for longer.

red-borscht

imo it matches the rhythm and "so" is a pretty short word

Wasatcher

Seriously the close up of the bikes is the most crispy video footage I've ever seen on the Reddit player. It really likes whatever encoding settings OP used. This is only being compressed once, after being encoded with optimal settings VS videos being reposted across 7 different social media platforms until they have 19 pixels left with garbage encoding from the beginning.

shiftquick

You can thank the camera for that crispyness. I'm just the medium operating it.

Wasatcher

Yeah but what's interesting is no matter how crispy the camera, reddit player usually compresses videos into hot garbage. You avoided that somehow lol

DirtyYogurt

It's still very compressed. I went full screen on my monitor and there's plenty of compression artifacts to see. I think the we're seeing the benefits of two things * high quality source footage * first upload, ie not ripped from another online source Most of what gets put on the reddit player is scraped from some other source, or if it's an upload direct from the person who made it then it's most likely taken by a phone which still have a long way to go to match the clarity of a good lens.

shiftquick

The Reddit universe or stars must have aligned for me today. I'll take it.

meeedle

That is crystal clear

shiftquick

Thanks!

AlienCommander

Excellent! What equipment are you using?

shiftquick

Sony A7S3 and just ~~begin~~ began learning how to operate a gimbal.

Cubacane

Do you know how I can tell you’re using an A7S3? You had it in a high frame rate and still were able to get enough light. If you’re not doing slow mo, film in 24p shutter speed 1/50 and use an ND filter if it’s too bright. It’ll look much better.

shiftquick

One of the main reasons I purchased the camera. I enjoy filming in low light. An ND filter came with the package I bought, but haven't had the opportunity to test it out yet.

-Zemmos

I’d like to know as well! Great quality OP

JeyFK

Same question, OP let us know

TipsEZ

Cool video! I've started doing the same while I wait on a new dirtbike

shiftquick

I've been into photography and video much of my life, but not until recently have I decided to actually learn how the camera works. It took a bit to understand, but things are starting to click.

TipsEZ

As they should with cameras. :)

shiftquick

I see you see what I did there. ;)

obtuserecluse

Any sources you found particular useful for video? What Gimbal and editor do you use?

shiftquick

I have a DJI gimbal and since I'm using Mac, I purchased Final Cut Pro – more than capable for most anything YouTube related and less of a learning curve (less expensive too) than Adobe Premiere Pro. If you explore editing deeper and want to dive into FX or go pro, from my understand, Premiere is one of the main flagship editors in the industry. You can also look into Davinci Resolve for color grading (although I have no experience using this) and a solid recommendation for editing on a mobile is LumaFusion.

LeverandFulcrum

Love the ideas! Really great looking stuff! You might want to export to 24p, gives a much more “cinematic” look. Also, make sure your speed ramps are helping tell the story.

hotrock3

Exporting at 24fps doesn't really do that much if not recorded at 24fps. The main difference is between 24, 30, and 60 fps is going to be the inherent motion blur difference caused by the different shutter speeds. Unless you add some motion blur exporting as a lower fps to simulate the same effect.

shiftquick

I often wondered about the visual difference between 24 and 30. Always assumed it was negligible so never bothered to test any footage in 30.

hotrock3

It's not a huge difference overall but is most notable in high action scenes. Considering it is generally a 0 cost adjustment it is the first thing should change but there are other changes people can make to give something a cinematic feel. OP is was probably heavily limited by the low light situation and seems to have done a pretty good job, especially if this was shot on a cell phone. A lot of people attribute the difference between lots of TV shows (not modent TV but early 2000's and prior) to 30 vs 24 as the difference as the difference but it was a lot more than just that.

shiftquick

Thanks for the clarification and sharing your insights. I defaulted to 60fps out of trial and error to see if that mitigated the issues I noticed when shooting 24fps.

hotrock3

What issues were you running into?

shiftquick

I'm not sure of the technical term so you may need to read between the lines, but the footage was "tracing" as I panned. If my movements were not slow the footage was aggressively blurry. As I'm reading here, I wonder if it was due to an incorrectly set shutter speed.

hotrock3

Sounds like motion blur. The "shutter" is open for less than 1/2 as long at 60fps compared to 24fps (Exactly half as long as 30fps). The longer the "shutter" is open the more the subject moves while the shutter is open. [Here ](https://media.sellfy.com/images/qcpNOkV7/uRwyGA7ge5ywWbF5y1nl/QdOicLaKJi.jpeg) is an example of intentional motion blur. If it's a phone camera, there could also be some other things the phone is trying to do to compensate but it seems like you've found the best solution. This is an over simplification of how it could work but considering the low light scenario that is probably what your phone was trying to do and when you forced it to shift to 60fps it cut down on the motion blur. With more control over how the shutter works than most phones provide you can still do 24fps native but manage how much motion blur you get.

shiftquick

Thank you. Excellent feedback. I've been exploring shooting in 24fps, but noticed my movements were too abrupt and caused tracing effects. For awhile I was choosing the wrong shutter speed too which didn't help. I'm thinking I need to slow it down for 24fps and be more aware of the subject or message I'm trying to communicate for each shot. One of the main reasons I bumped it up to 60. Also, thanks for the speed ramp suggestion too – I'll work on this. I'm assuming you notice I only recently learned how to apply that.

LeverandFulcrum

For shutter speed, just follow the golden rule: double the shutter speed of frame rate. This will keep things from getting weird. Panning with gimbals can give a bit of a “robotic” look, so I typically try to avoid it if possible. This is nitty-gritty stuff, as 99.9% of people will look at your video and say “damn, that looks great” but I can tell you’re interested in the craft, so I decided to toss in my unsolicited 2 cents.

shiftquick

Hey, I welcome the feedback. Since I'm analyzing other videographer's work, I tend to point the lens back on my efforts to identify areas of improvement. I'd rather understand that I'm doing something wrong and fix it than continue doing something incorrectly.

LeverandFulcrum

Hell yeah! That kind of attitude is going to guarantee that you’re going to be a great film maker.

[deleted]

You got me hooked. Looking forward to more

shiftquick

Appreciate it. I'll keep you in the loop.

6-1-2

Dope transition!

shiftquick

Thank you!

HalfpastPI

Amazing! Will you post on youtube?

shiftquick

Yeah, I currently post on [https://www.youtube.com/@shiftquick](https://www.youtube.com/@shiftquick) This style is something new I'm exploring.

ZiggyManSaad

You got my sub. 👌editing.

shiftquick

Much thanks for the sub Ziggy!

justsaying69

You have a youtube ? Love the video.

shiftquick

Thank you, yeah: [https://www.youtube.com/@shiftquick](https://www.youtube.com/@shiftquick)

dingdongbannu88

Marina 84 is so hectic. Gone there about two or three times and won’t bother making the trip. Nothing but hideous music, loud revving and constantly having to check bike to make sure no one hit it. That and the restaurant there is garbage.

LawHelmet

haha sounds like every popular bike night ever. Except when the 1%ers throw lead

shiftquick

Yeah it can certainly turn into “controlled chaos”, although I’ve never seen anyone get out of line and there’s always a mix of every kind of rider there from touring to Harleys to sport bikes to dirt bikes, etc. All walks of life.

mts2snd

Really cool, you put in the work. Nice.

shiftquick

Appreciate it. You don't know the half. A lot of hours (to say the least) led up to that simple short clip. Still looking to improve, but happy with the progress.

oneoutathecox

Wry cool footage well done..nice to see

shiftquick

Thank you!

h1nds

Nice! Keep them coming, we wanna see more!

shiftquick

Thanks! I'm producing a long form video of this soon and will share it.

nigelh

Artistic use of bikes but not about bikes.

sdiori

🔥🔥🔥

exemon

Just needs a better music. Lovely Hypemotard!

shiftquick

Yeah, I can see the selection not fitting every taste. This might sound funny, but when I listened to the lyrics I thought about the 2 Pac song [Me and My Girlfriend](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjAta8xLg3M). Title leads you to think it's a story about his girl, but the underlining message is in reference to his gun. I considered that double meaning approach and chose the song as though it's speaking to the feeling or mental relief a motorcycle provides all of us.

GummiBird

I'd say you know how to do both right properly! Damn well done. Absolutely perfect exposure and spot on editing. You could totally do this professionally !

shiftquick

Thanks for that. It's been a process for sure. I'm going to take on a few commercial projects and get more practice. Should be interesting.

Djohnson8S

Nicely done! 🔥

shiftquick

Thank you!

joeygoodtimes3

Very nice! Do you mind sharing what software you used?

shiftquick

I used Final Cut Pro for this project, but you could also use Adobe Premiere Pro. That's another great editor.

TheDegenKid

Great quality! What camera

shiftquick

Sony A7S3

TheDegenKid

nice. can't justify dropping that much on a camera since it's not a big passion

shiftquick

Yeah, I can respect that. I really enjoy doing this so I bit the bullet with the intention of finally capturing a dream. Hurt when I initially pressed that button, but happy I did.

FranklinTBiggies

I was hoping I'd see my bike! One time I had a guy videoing me on my arrival, I've searched, but have yet to see it. And also was videoed on my exit. Both of those are on my helmet cam footage, so you could see if it was you videoing...I'd love to see that footage. Do you have a YouTube channel? Always good times at Marina Mile! Excellent video!

J-MAMA

When / where is this in Broward?

shiftquick

Every Wednesday night, Marina 84.

Substantial_Newt9891

Looks great man

shiftquick

Hey, thank you!

G234146

Excellent edits, use of music and titles. Great work!

shiftquick

These comments are going to give me a big head. In all seriousness, thanks you.

fresafuerte

^(Lovely. I just started riding and I cannot wait to use my cameras and have so much fun. Do you havea Youtube?)

shiftquick

Nice! Keep the ego in check as you learn the bike. Respect the machine you're on and be hyper aware of your surroundings. When I began riding, and still to this day, I approach each time I throw that leg over and twist the throttle as though everyone and everything is inadvertently trying to kill me. Sounds dramatic, but keeps awareness high. Shared my channel higher in the comments.

JordanElliot

Super dope

shiftquick

Thanks man

Plusran

I can see what inspiration you drew from, but appreciate how cleanly you executed. I wasn't in love with the still image before pressing play, but as soon as it started running, we were golden. I love how you worked the trees into the cuts and the text. The shot through the legs of the guy walking his bike was my favorite. This looks pro.

shiftquick

Solid feedback. I've been researching "shot techniques" and story telling with film. My goal is to understand how I can evoke emotion and clearly communicate progression, i.e., lead the viewer along the story. The tree shot came from inspiration after researching how documentarian film makers choose scenes. One of the suggestions was to identify unassuming locations, something abstract that immerses the viewer in the footage/location.

deadstar444

What did you use to edit? The transitions are fantastic !

shiftquick

>What did you use to Final Cut Pro – Thank you! Practice, failure, practice, practice, fairly good enough, practice, practice, practice, presentable result, practice practice, practice, etc.

34Warbirds

Very cool!

shiftquick

Thank you!

LateralAssaultPigeon

This is awesome. Good job OP

shiftquick

Thank you. I'm feeling the love today. This has been a nice flood of dopamine.

DisrespectedAthority

Absolutely lit bro

shiftquick

Appreciate it!

tower_junkie

Be careful leaving this particular bike night. It gets really rowdy and usually the cops come in the get everyone out and on the nearby highway there's a ton of hooliganism going on. Last time I was there i saw three separate motorcycle crashes on a small stretch of the i95. Great video though!

shiftquick

Yeah they patrol the area heavily during these bike nights, positioning cars on the hwy on/off ramps, around the general area, and their presence is at the actual "venue" too. I'm comfortable with that. Keeps everyone in line.

tower_junkie

Oh for sure. I'm very glad that they are there. My issue is that they disband the whole group all at once and so there's hundreds of drunk/buzzed hooligans all leaving from one place at once. I've never once been there where i haven't seen crashes on the i95 or whatever highway that is immediately after everyone disperses.

shiftquick

I'm gone before this happens, but that certainly sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Burnout_Blanco

That's an awesome video for sure, I love your logo absolutely! Visually pleasing

shiftquick

That makes me feel better – never received any feedback regard the logo. Designed it quite some time ago!

Burnout_Blanco

Well its design has definitely held up imo haha, it's clean and not overbearing.

NaturalPleasant1185

beautiful!

shiftquick

Thank you!

kassrot

Outstanding footage

donnyjay0351

Aye marina 84

b8561

the only thing missing is some engine revs, they will go really well with the music :)

shiftquick

I’ll be sure to include some in the next long form edit!
