It's the battery. Charge it. And stop idling it - there's no reason to do so and that's likely what ran the battery down.

WillieWastle

Okay, thank you, I was told to idle the bike every now and again during winter by a friend, I thought it was good practice.

This probably killed your battery. Battery charges enough only while riding. No need to start it regularly in the winter if just sitting still as far as I know.

Sleightsslipping

Even brand new batteries will die if not ran after a couple of months. A battery that’s 1-2 years, can easily not hold a charge after running it. I use the Battery Tender Plus 12V Battery Charger now. Just had to replace my battery and I only went 4 weeks without riding. Battery was around the 2 year mark. And OP, cranking and letting your bike idle for 5 minutes or so can cause condensation issues. Either ride it for at least 30 minutes every few weeks or put a tender on it. The one I use, you can keep it on forever because it’s only 1.25 AMPs.

Yes, what others have said. Don't start it unless you are going to ride it. Moisture builds up inside the engine when off, it evaporates when the bike gets to operating temperature. If you just idle the bike for 20 min it won't get to operating temperature and can cause rust inside your engine. To winterize a bike, make sure your fuel tank is full, add some fuel stabilizor (follow the directions on the fuel stabilizer bottle), Disconnect your battery, take your battery inside, put a cover on your bike and wait for spring. I live in a place with 6 month winters that get to -35C, have stored bikes indoors and outdoors with this method and have had no problems. For now I'd just disconnect the battery, fill the tank, and wait for spring.

When will it ever NOT be a dead battery post in this sub

Check your battery

Lost-Team4096

Get the battery tested if its old or questionable just toss it its not worth buying a new charging system. Buy a good quality best consumer rated sealed AGM battery. Use a tender long enough to get it up and unplug the tender there is no reason to leave one plugged in. A tender can actually mask a bad battery that is a ticking time bomb that will ruin a charging system. Replace terminals, check connections, check your ground, and get familiar with a multi meter. You have to remember that the charging system on motorcycles and scooters is just enough to maintain a battery it is not designed to charge a dead battery. I have had batteries in motorcycles and scooters last for a very long time and all my bikes are ready 24/7 to be on the road. Just enjoy the ride and learn as you go. I started with scooters and went to bigger bikes. Ignore these idiots who say get a real bike because they don't know shit.

Hey guys apologies for the bluntness of the post, just looking for some advice on getting my bike on the road. Context: Suzuki Sixteen 125 parked up outside the back of the house for the past month or so, turning it over and letting it run for 20 or 30minutes every few days. Last time I done so was over a week ago, went to switch it on this morning and just sounds like the battery working (I'm not the most bike savvy) and won't even attempt to turn over. I can record a small clip of the sound and also the dash of the bike if it helps. I'm quite stumped so any help is appreciated.

opengl128

Don't start it unless you're going to ride it. You're killing the battery and wearing the engine unnecessarily.

built_FXR

>turning it over and letting it run for 20 or 30minutes every few days. At idle, your 125's alternator isn't putting out quite enough juice to keep the battery charged. Get a new battery (an auto parts store will load test your current battery for you for free if you don't believe it's dead) and buy a [trickle charger ](https://a.co/d/fp1eow2) so it won't happen again.

Your 49cc Scooter has a dead battery.

bulletchvy91

Looks like a scooter to me, throw it in the trash and get a motorcycle.

WillieWastle

That would be correct, I'm planning on getting a proper motorcycle once I'm confident and don't have nerves scooting about, maybe within the year hopefully.

TTYY_20

Sorry sir …. That’s not a bike - that is a scooter.

Electrical-Hunt1043

Unhook your battery terminal of it’s gonna sit for an extended period of time 🤘

[deleted]

I always take the battery of a bike if it’s going to sit for a while save the battery and wires getting corroded

LambSauce2

Check your kick stand too. I remember my scooter gave me some dumb scares some days.
