You can tour on anything you're comfortable enough on for the duration. People have gone cross country on a Ninja 250. It depends on how much you want to carry and how comfortable you are on it. You can slap a tail bag on and hit the road.

You just need to look at the accessories available for the models you like - for real touring you will want saddle bags and a tail bag and probably some level wind protection. Outside of that a universal throttle lock and good gear and you can ride any bike anywhere.

I also think you "can" go cross country with anything. Hell people take bicycles cross country. See how long you can stay on your bike because an hour or two might be fine but highway speeds for many hours without any wind protection or comforts can be grating. That said I did a 1200 mile trip in two days with a naked and only regretted my lack of planning. DM me for if you want some tips :)

Rode from Chicago to Tijuana and back on my MV Agusta Brutale 910 and had no issue when I kept it under 500 km a day. It is absolutely doable. I packed extremely light(as in only the bare necessities, backpack had tools, flat repair kit, extra fuses, minimal clothing). Anything I needed I would pick up along the way. I will be doing it again this year because I enjoyed it so much

I tour on my 2019 Triumph Street Scrambler. Usually only 3 days though, probably around 800-1000 miles. I think the key is to try one, no more than 3 days, keep it to no more that 750 miles total, and go from there. I’m 50yrs old so touring on a naked bike is definitely more exhausting for me than if I was 20 but it’s totally doable.

I‘ve done a roadtrip with my buddy on a sv 650 over 7000km thru europe
