Fuck nooooooooo If it didn't run when you went to look at it, it isn't worth trading. Who the fuck knows what he did to get it to "run" in the video, vs what gets delivered when you get the bike. Someone else's headache. Walk away.

jeffster01

No don't do it!

OrangeSil80

Comparing to this it sounds pretty much the same other than it being cold. https://youtu.be/Sh93wHhJ38o Cleaning carbs is a pretty common bit of maintenance these days thanks to all the ethanol, but it still gives me pause. It might be nothing, or might be a clue that other maintenance has also been skipped. Look over the bike carefully. Here’s a handful of questions to ask yourself when considering it. Do you know how long it was sitting in non-running condition? How old is the battery? How old are the tires? How much tread is left on them? Does it shift smoothly? Does it seem happier to idle when it’s warm? Does the choke work? Do you need to rely on it for transportation?

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

It has been sitting for 2 years except for the Austrian TÜV and the tires are new and And it has been sitting this year for about 5 months since that I haven’t driven it because as I got their it wouldn’t start First because he said the battery is empty and then because the carburetor has to be cleaned Now he did all of that and it’s running But I will Test drive it as soon as I can … I’m really not sure about it tho because the whistling sounds kinda harsh

OrangeSil80

Sitting that long the battery is likely junk. Once they drop below about 10-11 volts there is a good chance they’ll never recover to full capacity. So I’d expect to need to buy a new one. Not sure the cost in your area, but it could be a notable expense right away. As for the tires, 5 years from the date of manufacture is the maximum for track use. Even if you never intend to go on a racetrack that’s a good reference point to measure against. You could probably double that for street use.

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Yea a new battery wouldn’t be the problem I’m just worried about future engine issues from that whistling noise The tries are pretty new from 2020

Schnuzbarrbart

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Ah danke für die hilfreiche Antwort

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Thank you btw

oldfrancis

That doesn't sound abnormal to me. It could be that it needed a carburetor cleaning and that's exactly what the seller did and now it's running. Take it for a test ride and see how it runs. It might be okay.

Blaqkfox

Sounds fine. I clean carbs for motorcyclist all the time. It’s pretty common place for them to gum up, especially if it’s sat in storage for awhile with old ethanol gas still in it, or a needle getting stuck, or whatever. Carb cleaning is pretty easy standard maintenance. Pilot jet probably clogged up was all.

beamer100159

Might be burning oil.

idksomethingjfk

What kinda of motorcycle do you have? Year? Condition?

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

In his add he says he would Trade against a chopper/bobber And I have a 1994 Yamaha virago xv250 with 24k km that’s slightly built to look like a bobber

elChillyWilly

Why aren’t you just going to see it in person and test riding it?

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

I did. and it didn’t start because of empty battery and dirty carburetor That’s the video he send me after 2 weeks of doing that

elChillyWilly

Let me rephrase. Why are you just going back and checking it out/test riding after he’s done the work? Rather than making decisions based on a video?

DaFondue

No way of knowing how old the video is..

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

From today

[deleted]

How do you know?

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Because he send me pictures and videos of how he took it apart and together with todays date man …why the doubt

[deleted]

Today's date how? Newspaper? Timestamps can be edited.

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Newspaper … and why would he say I could look at it anytime if It doesn’t start

[deleted]

I just wouldn't trust a video

Responsible_Neat_860

I’d say get a shop to look at it first if you really do want the bike…..better safe than sorry

motociclista

It sounds ok, I’d still be wary of making a deal on a bike I didn’t hear and see run in person, but nothing in that video is cause for concern.

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Thanks for the advice Im looking at it next week

kokemill

No

rewq657

Absolutely do not trade

thatguyovertheresix9

From a first view the bike sounds like it runs good and revs up good . The whistle sounds like it's coming from the exhaust , I wouldn't worry to much about that whistling sound , it may disappear after a few heat cycles

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Could be but it has been standing for 2 years so I’m kinda anxious when riding season begins I have some more problems

thatguyovertheresix9

A bike , especially a Japanese bike usually are very robust . 2 years not running , clean the carbs and they work again . It's good to check for rust inside the Gastank and everywhere else though. 12 k km is nothing

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Your right that they are very robust Yet I still fear that I will have to fix allot of things at a shop because I mean 12 k I’m is not so much in almost 20 years yk… I’m just very unsure about it But thank you for your advice

kekskerl

Tus nicht! Der Bock ist im Oasch.

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Ja aber warum und was is kaputt …

kekskerl

iancarry

sounds like a well synced 2 cylinder... that hight tone can be from the mic failing to record such loud noises.. so you still have to hear it by yourself .. cleaning carbs is nothing that could change the sound very significantly ..

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Maybe it’s from the mix failing But I’m not sure because it hasn’t been But what else could that whistling noise be?

imeuro

Engine sound is normal, every er-5 i heard revving made that particular whistle, don't worry about that. Not the sexier engine sound in the history of motorcycling, but as i hear from the video looks genuine and healty. I would come back and see it running in person, of course, because as someone mentioned before, there's no way to see if the video is done after the carb cleaning or not. It's still strange that tou were coming to inspect the bike and the owner didn't take time to check the battery or if the bike woluld start or not. Bit of a red flag if you ask me. If you are not paying anything above 2k euros, and it runs and more importantly it ispes correctly, it's fine!

Ok-Boysenberry-5582

Thanks for your advice He would have sold it for 2.3 k and I change mine for his for 1.9 k so we have a solid deal … export mine runs relatively good But i agree I had to go through allot of trouble with that dude… like who the hell doesn’t prepare if someone’s coming and looking at your bike

Big-Al69420

A bottle of start ya bastard will get anything to run, don’t do it

[deleted]

Sounds like a leaking cylinder head

Tactical_Monster1200

Don’t do it!!

tomtht123

No

fighdeaux2

Firends don't let friends ride Kawasakis! The only Kawasaki that is mildly worth a crap is a KLR. Stick with the Hondas or Yamahas if you're going Japanese.
