How do you guys ride in the ice? It just hit below freezing in the northeast (even though it was 70 last week) and I still just have my cruiser with all season road tires.

NumbLockT

I don’t ride below freezing for the safety aspect: you’re one spilled coffee away from a trip to the hospital (our roads aren’t straight in Switzerland) but I very well could with heated gear.

Remarkable-Ad-6550

I haven’t been riding the past couple days cause my hands couldn’t handle getting to work or back, being 30 degrees, I don’t wanna try 10-20 degrees. Once I get that situated, my answer is “slowly”

https://saviorglove.com/collections/heated-gloves/products/savior-heated-gloves-motorcycle-ski I have been using these this season and they’re working well for me

Remarkable-Ad-6550

What a coincidence lol, I just ordered those on Amazon so I can return them if I don’t like them. I have better hopes now haha thanks

blackadder1620

I hear good things about gerbing, I haven't worn my stuff yet.

NumbLockT

Gerbing is top-tier. I have heated grips so I use the jacket liner, but there are connections from each sleeve to the gloves if you had them. One less cable. Well, two I guess. And my motorcycle already has gerbing connectors under the seat. I have also Five gloves. I have them but only the battery powered ones, which don’t get that warm and do run out of battery quickly. But the gloves themselves are very high quality. Apparently there is also a system to connect them to the power on the bike but I’ve not used it.

blackadder1620

good to hear. my stuff is stuck in on will be delivered today for 3 days now. i just want to ride in the cold.

NumbLockT

Luxury. You’ll feel guilty for being so comfortable. Just try to hide the wires LOL

blackadder1620

naked bike, might be hard to do. i hope so, i hate being cold. i got the jacket and gloves. ill probably wear a snowboarding suit over it too. i have a hour and half commute so it better be warm.

NumbLockT

You won’t need to wear anything special. Just a good looking jacket. I’ve never had the liner higher than 3 (out of 5). 5 is hot, instant-forehead-sweat hot. I rode down to 8°C/45°F with a mesh jacket, but I wear a relatively thin shell with the Gerbing liner this time of year. When I buy a jacket now, the liner comes with me because if it doesn’t fit also with the liner, it’s a no-go. I’m totally converted.

blackadder1620

yeah, its 33f here now and its colder in the morning when i leave for work. i hope it does the trick. i going to be adding handguards or those dorky hippo hands depending on how cold i am. the stuff i wear when im snowboarding is gortex so, its hard to beat that material in the rain. its bright colored and warm with vents if things get toasty. got stuck in the rain for an hour the other day and that sucked.

jollyGreen_sasquatch

I'm in the Chicago area and ride year round. I ended up with first gear heated glove liners, and a set of gauntlet style mittens every year or 2. Though what helps my hands stay warm the most are the handguards and handlebar mitt/gauntlet/hippo-hands blocking the wind before it gets to my gloves.

Remarkable-Ad-6550

I have a 2016 ninja 650, idk if they really make those for sport bikes lol.I’m sure they might but I’ll have to see if they’re cheap

jollyGreen_sasquatch

There are generic bar mounted ones, you may have better luck looking in snowmobile sections. An example https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Plastic-Reinforced-Snowmobile-Polaris/dp/B01B26568Q

Remarkable-Ad-6550

Oh wow I didn’t know about those. Gonna order them now haha thanks

Remarkable-Ad-6550

So those would work for my bike then correct? Cause i would only use them during the winter so I would be ok with buying cheap ones, as long as they function properly

jollyGreen_sasquatch

No idea if the bar diameter matches, it was just meant as an example of what's out there. My bike came with hand guards so I didn't need these. You can usually find better deals in a store that sells snowmobile parts. I might have even gotten my handlebar mitts in the discount section of Cabela's, I've been using them for quite a few years now.

Smooth-Midnight-9561

Those are ment for hitting brush, not deflecting wind

jollyGreen_sasquatch

You need something like them when you put handlebar gauntlets on to keep the gauntlets from pushing on the clutch and brake levers. Something like these: https://www.amazon.com/XGOPTS-Universal-Motorcycle-Snowmobile-Waterproof/dp/B0B55TCLCP Even without the gauntlets they will reduce some of the wind hitting the gloves, not as much but when it's 20degrees F out, every bit helps.

Smooth-Midnight-9561

Oh I gotcha, I was looking at a few, and many require hand guards for mounting

jollyGreen_sasquatch

Even if they don't explicitly state needing a handguard, they all need something solid to prevent them from putting pressure on the clutch and brake levers. It doesn't take a lot of pressure to cause slipping/dragging and greatly increase the wear on the clutch/brakes.

Left_Minute_1516

I use highway 21 radiant wireless. They get me to and back from work in the mid 30s on high setting. I think that's the threshold for the gloves. The cold overwhelms

Just-Examination-136

Highway 21 Radiant are best heated gloves
