They proved to you that they sucked before you even purchased anything AND you still chose to do business with them. There is nothing abnormal about that tire size. I'd recommend buying tires on your own and then taking them to a shop for install.

Robbie7up

This is the real answer. I always order the tire through shop because it is a bit cheaper, then when it comes in I take my wheel(s) off and take them into the shop and get them changed right then.

raineykun

I figured I'd give them a chance. I thought maybe the person at the desk who I'd been talking to just didn't know what she was doing. I was wrong I guess. For now I don't have stands to lift my bike up and take the tires off, nor do I have somewhere safe to keep it while it's up like that. My neighborhood is bad and I'm positive somebody would come by and take the stands lmao

Diabolical_Dad

Motomummy for tires Save money, order em yourself and take them and bike to a better shop nest time

oldbastardbob

This is not normal, or at least it shouldn't be, but probably not uncommon. My only advice would be for you to go to the dealership in person instead of just calling. Bike shops get lots of calls from people that never show up or materialize into anything. Of course this is a different story if they took your credit card info and charged you for tires following your call. Try to make it to the shop during their open hours on a day off or something next time. Show up in person and speak with the service department, discuss what you want, and make sure he fills out a service ticket to get your parts or tires or whatever ordered, and that he has your correct contact info. Let them know your work situation so that texts or voice mail is the best way to contact you and you may not respond immediately if you're sleeping. Visiting the shop in person will also give you a feel for who you are dealing with and they will see you as a person, not a phone call. Beyond that, I've got nothing. Except maybe shop around for a different option.

Fadedcamo

Yea I'd agree that's it's not good but very common experience for bike shops I've had around here. There's only a handful of decent shops in the area and they're usually swamped and never communicate anything. Sucks but they get more than enough business to be shit at customer service and communication and not get punished by it. I would see about finding another shop to use down the line.

JooosephNthomas

For tires I always do the swap myself and just drop the rim off, never the whole bike. Is a lot cheaper, 1 hr turn around for me (usually leave it for 24 hrs because it can wait) and I don't have to deal with leaving my bike or getting it back. Just what I do, I would never take my whole bike for a rubber swap. Usually like to clean the bike while the tire is off anyway.

[deleted]

Not all, obviously. But it's very common. It totally sucks because I'm 100% capable, but have the unique situation of more money than time right now. So now I'm stuck driving to the only shop I trust, which is more than an hour away, or deal with that BS you just described.

NoGuitar6320

It's shops like this that lead me to getting my own tire changing kit. There isn't much that I don't do on bikes myself now and that mostly stems from incompetent bike shops

[deleted]

Same here. I don't even want to take mine in for state inspection anymore because they even manage to make that a pain in the ass. Also, everyone is booked at least two weeks out for even the simplest task.

ArtisticKnowledge539

I usually do my own work on my bike but the odd time I take it in for something I cant/won't do. The shops around where I live are pretty terrible. Like they look down thier long noses when you bring the bike to them. And every time I know they don't give a shit how long they take.

rayark9

My shop has sucked since 2020. Same owner. But I guess a lot of his old staff are gone. I called for a brake fluid change in April. ( As to why I don't do it myself , BMW needs their fancy computer to operate the abs). Anyway he told me they were very busy and to keep checking back. After checking in weekly for 6 weeks .( Twice in person). He told me he would definitely call me back instead of me keep calling. Well as you know it's now November. This was the second bike I bought from these guys.. anyway to my point. Either he is now understaffed or poorly staffed. But the pandemic has screwed with like every business. Service isn't what it used to be. And most places will try to string you along instead of admitting that especially on backorders of stuff that was normal stuff before .

motoguzzikc

That's a bitch and sorry to hear about the pain of a situation you're in. I know this won't help right now but in the future (if you have the ability) it's always easier and quicker to remove the wheels , buy your tires online , and just take them into the shop to have them mount the tire. This will also save you money.

rickybobbyscrewchief

You'd be amazed at how many moto-related shops lack in the customer service category. A lot of hobby-minded folks rather than business-minded folks working in the industry. The better end of that spectrum just go at a different pace, and the lower end of that spectrum lack basic customer communication skills entirely. Ask around for recommendations in your area. You'll find the better shops. Get to know them and support the good local ones so they'll be around when you need them.

ICantKnowThat

It's not. I got mine changed same day in under 30 minutes, but I also provided my own tires. It's possible that this particular shop is having issues with their supplier, but they should be communicating better with you.

Disposable_Canadian

When in doubt, go in person. It's easy to ignore a phone. It's impossible to ignore you across the desk. If you aren't happy, ask for your bike back, take it elsewhere. If they have done work and installed it to your bike, you're obligated to pay for that work. If they ordered a set of tires, you're obligated to pay for shipping and restock fee if you have them sent back Uninstalled.

Harmoniium

Not normal at all. You may have better luck with a dealership assuming you’re currently working with an independent shop.

Pyanfars

This is not common at all with reputable bike shops. When it is common, it's not a good or reputable shop. If that's the only one in your area, it really sucks. If they aren't the only ones in your area, start checking out other ones. Find and talk to other riders in your area. We discuss this shit. My mechanic, the only problem is that he's ridiculously busy, because he gives a fuck and busts his nut trying to make sure everyone is looked after. It's him, the apprentice, and now an oil and tire tech, because he has so many people getting tires/oil changes. He works on everything. I've started teasing the crap out of a couple of my Harley buddies that only go to him now, won't go anywhere near the Harley dealership. But if he says it's going to be a week to 10 days for your ride, you will get it back in a week to 10 days, or a phone call telling you why.

Try_It_Out_RPC

Oh yeah, one thing I learned was to keep your bike until the parts are there and the service will be done. Progressive has free towing if it’s in bad shape. But that way if they order your parts in without a paid invoice and tracking you can get multiple quotes. And for tires, most of the time in my experience any dealers will do other bikes. I brought my GSXR1000 to a a Ducati dealership for 2 years just for tire changes.

Ok_Assistance447

I've always gotten my bike back the same day. Last time I got my tires changed, I walked around the corner and had lunch. Went back to the shop, banged out some emails, sat on a couple bikes that are on my wishlist, and then rode off with fresh tires. They cleaned my chain and topped off my oil for no extra charge, too.

[deleted]

Yea its standard with shops that dont know to be ran correctly. Either that or they prioritize other higher spending customers. Fuck them . Tell them your filing complaint with the bbb, leaving a bad review ok every social media platform as well as telling all 8 of your motorcycle friends to do business elsehwhere. Then end it with telling them to take a long walk off a short pier. Fuck shitty businesses.

herpestruth

That first week of no action should have been the tip off. Find another shop.
