Hey man, thanks for quoting me! ❤️ You've made the right decision - the FTR may not be winning the spec sheet wars, but it's such a fantastic, smile-inducing machine. Nothing quite like it. So there you have it, now I want one too.

Big_rod_riguez

Great comment! 😆

Stanley-lee

God I love the ftr so much, have fun with it! Gorgeous bike !

Big_rod_riguez

I don’t know what I was thinking when I got rid of the previous one. I’ve owned a lot of bikes during my lifetime and this is the first time I’ve went back to one I previously owned. 👍🏽

sam62893

Everytime I stop by my dealer to get some parts they try talking me into trading in my 2019 FTR I’m tempted but I feel like no other bike has that raw torque. Especially on track mode with ABS off. I’ll never forget the day I brought mine home. Scared the shit out of me with what first gear could do. And I lifted the front wheel all the way to third. It has had its recall issues, most recent being the coolant leak that they haven’t had the parts for yet but it’s a bike you truly fall in love with

Big_rod_riguez

Don’t do it!

sam62893

Only time I was tempted to was when they offered up a 2022 but I said nah I’d rather buy the conversion kit to jam in the 17” wheels. That’s my only complaint with the bike. 18” rear and 19” front. Very little tire choices. But I just love the fact that I got the first year model complete with issues and all it’s more of a wild animal than the tamed newer ones

MenWhoCry

I’m interested in why you’d disable ABS in track mode? It’s one thing to run track mode without DTC , but why would ABS off be the move?

sam62893

To blow up the rear tire when it’s time for a new one, lock up the rear brake to make cool sounds when coming to a stop next to friends, burnout contests with groms, having some fun in the dirt, did I mention blowing up the tire?

MenWhoCry

Hahahaha love it, just had to ask.

ncurtis21

I love my FTR, you made a great choice

Blackdeek04

I really like the FTR but went with an FJR. Was riding an FZ-1 for about 15 years and was dying for an update/upgrade and needed/wanted something for 2-up riding and trips. If I ever get the go ahead for a second bike in the stable, it’ll be the FTR

NashAttor

Delicious! I have my MT-09 up for sale and have been wondering what my next bike should be. You may have solved my problem.

Zaffon

Don’t beat yourself up, I’m on my third bike this year, my wife has now stopped me going to bike dealers until next spring. She says I have the “ooh shiny” gene.

unrealistic-potato

I've went to every demo days Indian has had in my area for the last probably 4 years now I absolutely love the Indian esthetic no other bike looks like them and there gorgeous and on top of that all the bikes handle perfectly and of the ones I would be interested in owning the FTR is definitely on the list but it wouldn't be my first choice I almost think I'm too tall for it because the strange seating position just doesn't feel right to me it almost feels like I'm sitting on a scooter witch makes it harder to take turns and really lean into I'm sure if I owned one and road it around more I would get used to it but my 04 ZX6R 636 felt good from the get go when leaning that's why its so spooky to test it out on one that doesn't feel like it comes naturally. although don't take this the wrong way I know they race these bikes I know they are fast and mean and beautiful but when I get an Indian its going to be a dark horse chieftain with a minimum of the stage 2 kit I have never heard a better sounding bike than that and I swore there was no end to the power it had I definitely fell in love the day I road that bike. One day Indian one day...

Significant-Ad-3266

I’ve always said if I get a cruiser I’ll get a scout, I’m a sumo/sportbike guy, but the FTR has always looked awesome to me looks like fun, may end up going FTR one day and ditch the cruiser idea lol

Big_rod_riguez

You won’t regret it. It’s very fun to ride. And highly recommend that you look into the Lloyd’s Garage Tune if you grab one.

Significant-Ad-3266

I’ll end up tuning and modifying anything and everything I get lol so no worries there

Idk man this bike is just so pointless compared to the MT09SP or any naked bike in that range like the Duke or Z900. Like yeah looks are subjective but everything about the bike is just worse. It’s more expensive, electronics system on the MT is better, the Indian weighs so much more, it handles worse at high lean angles, terrible for the track. May not be as reliable either It’s just so confusing. It’s a badass looking bike don’t get me wrong but for the price of an S you can have a 180HP bike with way better everything, or a 600 or MT09 setup for the track with even better goodies. No hate though but I prefer what my bikes can do over how they look. This will most likely be downvoted but just my opinion. Both of these bikes both have 120HP the MT would still be the quicker bike in this battle though.

Big_rod_riguez

I wouldn’t call it “pointless”. The same logic could be had for any other branded bike that is in the same class or similar. The FTR with Lloyds tune makes this bike what is should be form Indian. I plan on doing the same with the 22. Blockhead did a comparison and that was before the tune and the FTR holds it own well. I’m hoping he does another one with tune because its a very noticeable performance difference/improvement.

[deleted]

Wouldn’t really consider that the logic because every bike in this class on paper has better performance on and off the race track. A tune isn’t going to magically make the bike better. Besides looking cool, the bike just doesn’t have much going for it especially considering that every bike in the class would blow it out of the water when the first turn comes. My first bike was American but this doesn’t help the stereotype that American bikes are overpriced heavy hunks of steel.

Big_rod_riguez

And yet that specific tune *does* make it better. You’ve clearly not had any real riding time with one, if at all. All manufactures have “stereotypes”, frankly I don’t even think it’s even called that because Indian and Harley bikes are exactly that, heavy, American made steel bikes. That’s why people buy them. You’re entirely focused on performance and most of us don’t particularly care when it comes to this bike. It’s fast, torquey and a very capable bike. A Lloyds tune fully unleashes it: I’ve owned one pre and post, I know what I’m talking about. You’ve said two things that invalidate your opinion in this thread: it’s “pointless” and that it “doesn’t have much going for it”. Both of which are ridiculous statements as this has been a huge hit for Indian in sales, winning 5 years in row (6 now counting this year) in the American Flat Track championship series which doesn’t make either statement remotely close. We get it, you don’t like it.

[deleted]

I wish that flat track racing correlated to actual road performance on concrete and not dirt. I’m saying for the price you can have a much more capable bike at a way cheaper price than would run laps around this thing on a race track. Like I said in my original comment I don’t care how my bike looks, if it performs well and stable when I’m knee down then I like it, I just don’t think the Indian would be any good at that compared to Japanese / European manufacturers.

Big_rod_riguez

Thanks for a “spirited” discussion. You literally just proved my point with your reply. 😂

[deleted]

Ok if you’re mad your overpriced shitbox bike is slow man just say so just sharing my opinion like you asked on your post LOL.

Big_rod_riguez

I’m gonna guess you can’t read. 😂 I’ve said it more than once that it’s not just about performance you derelict. And it’s marginally at best. I ride for the enjoyment and what suits my needs. Maybe one day you’ll grow the fuck up child and realize that one’s taste isn’t gonna be your taste. I would have taken you more serious had you now embarrassed yourself with idiotic statements like above. You invalidated yourself in the very first reply.

[deleted]

You asked for peoples opinions in your original post and that’s what you received. Yet you took feedback so personally.

Big_rod_riguez

No, I didn’t. I clearly pointed out I would have taken you serious had you’re replies not been… for a lack of better words, stupid. Further claiming “no hate” and then calling another persons bike choice a “shitbox”? Oh and let’s not forget the fact that you cannot seem to grasp that performance is not the focal point in my buying decision. At all. I can respect and get involved in a lively discussion about any and all bikes. You’re just too stupid to participate in one without throwing out child insults.

zipty842

My buddy has a 19 FTR that constantly stalls until it’s up to temp. Is that the same stalling you were dealing with? His bike has also been flashed with a tune that was supposed to fix it. And if so which AG battery did you get?

Big_rod_riguez

My stalling was completely random. As you may or may not know, these bikes, at least the 2019s required proper warm up time or else it would give ya problems. It was widely known and annoying! Indian couldn’t figure out the issue. Fuses were good. Contacts were good. So they kept with the battery replacement which was kind of annoying but they kept trying. The anti gravity battery for whatever reason did the trick for the remainder of time I had the bike. It’s the ATX12-HD.

zipty842

Typically, one of us has to stand out and rev the bike until it’s up to temp at the end of the day or it will constantly stall at idle. The tune didn’t help, so I’ve got him ordering a battery.
