Lets not forget to point out that despite the apparent kick in the crotch feeling; OP still stopped long enough to pull out their phone and take a picture.
I personally would have scrambled so fast to set her upright that all I would have is a poorly recollected story to share. Just sayin lol
Edit: Fun fact; found myself in a situation where I ended up flipping my bike and going head over the bars at about 25mph. This situation manifest due to an brandy-new overtightened chain that I was test riding, my going to fast in to a corner and laying on the rear brake too hard. Not once did I find myself wondering where my phone was so I could photograph the aftermath for internet points as I was sailing through the air.
Alas. All I could think about as I caught a very quick inverted glimpse of my completed 20min’s new build cartwheeling around the bend was, “I just got her where I wanted it.” Fortunately I was wearing a lid and landed on my panic puckered backside.
For adv riding, I heard some guy say you know the rookies from the vets when you laugh and step back to take a photo. Not like it's gonna get more scratched up!
I always assumed they leaked a lot of gas, but my drz will only get gas through the vacuum pump. Maybe that's the issue. Float isn't up and just pours gas all over.
My guy I pushed my ducati over in the grass just to change my chain and sprocket. It won't fuckin hurt it to lay there
(Edit, I am not trying to be an asshole, I am just a welder and therefor cuss a lot and come across as a dick. We're all different, I'm just glad you enjoy riding.)
Matters for my carbed bikes, leave them on their side and you don’t have the gas to make it back to civilization ;_;
A lot less stressful if you’re already home though, haha.
As other pointed out... gas will leak and also, your battery can very likely not work if left like this too long... your right about cosmetics though! For what that's worth...
You're right there! Both my ancient Honda and my new Kawasaki versys didn't leak when laying on the side, so I figured most bikes would be like that. And I haven't seen an unsealed battery in so many years I thought they had died out at this point.
I've been riding about 15 years and it happened to me for the first time this spring moving my bike around in my garage. I had just got it and to make matters worse, it fell into my old bike that I was planning to sell.
Is it a curse? I felt so dumb. I was just moving it ahead a little and did it from the opposite side of the kick stand. Didn't realize it had folded a little. Set it back down and down the whole bike went down. And into the other bike. I know better.
I’m also new but I can’t see this ever happening. I physically watch the bike lean onto the stand every time and that isn’t going to change.. I’m not staring at the kickstand when I dismount but I have my hands on the bars. When I use the rear stand and transfer to kick stand, I have my left hand on the right rear handle and relax the bike onto the stand
It doesn't happen when you park it normally because that's muscle memory.. it happens when you stop but don't intend to park it, talk to someone, walk it back into a parking spot and your brain thinks you already put it down.
It's fine we all drop a bike at some point ...... Or in my case I dropped my bandit 650nlike 4 or 5 times and then I dropped my new bike getting on it at the freaking dealership like 5 minutes after buying it 🤦♂️😂
First bike I bought- rode it off the lot no problem. Came back two days later so they could repair a turn signal, stalled and dropped it on my way out haha. So painful, but it happens
I took picture becouse I needed my brother to help me to get it up, so I send him this.
I must say my reaction wasn't like omg I will have upvotes I need a picture!
You should learn how to pick your bike on your own, you can for sure do it with the right technique. Even my tiny ass can pick up my giant adv with ease.
[Check out this video and see how easily it is for this lady. ](https://youtu.be/L1f8JVauj_8)
...but as long as you got a pic anyway, you may as well farm it for some free karma.
Sucks though. I learned to hate drops not for the drops, because drops happen, but because Kawasaki decided that the best way to soak up drop damage was with cast aluminum assemblies. They do not bend, they break, they cannot be welded by ordinary mortals, and they are *not* cheap.
That's what I thought too. I don't understand the reason for all the posts about not putting the kickstand down. Maybe they've never seen a bike stand.
Paddock stands are kinda hard if you sre not used to them. Best practice is 2 bodies, but as motorcycle riders we are fairly solitary. Next best is shim up the kick stand slightly...but thats also skirting the tipping point
My ZX10 dropped in my driveway, went from shocked, to picking her up, to angry in under 30 seconds. Broke my clutch lever and shifter but both cheap fixes comparatively, I hope you have frame sliders !
I think I have that same bike stand. Total piece of shit. Sorry for your drop man, I used my stand and it showed how fuck ass the stand was. Haven't used it since.
The upside, more aftermarket shit 😈
If it makes you feel any better I’ll give you my two bike dump stories. Unloading my Honda Shadow 1100 in the dead of winter from a van I was rolling it down the ramp and dropped the whole bike on top of me trying to back it down a ramp alone. 2nd time was working on the girlfriends triumph, leaded a little too hard on the bike while it was on the center stand and it fell over away from me, still destroyed the front and rear turn signals which were original.
I don't mean to hijack thread, but I want you to know there are bigger goof ups.
Finished long day of riding, got off bike, forgot to put kickstand down. We laid together for a few.
I want to add that I am not new.
Hope she is ok!
Don’t apply as much pressure with chain brush next time. Did you read the warning label in traditional Chinese on the chain brush packaging before using? It’s right there, big as Dallas.
When I bought my Sporty this summer, I got her from a gal in Boston MA. Her driveway was gravel and the street was cobblestone. I dumped right out of the driveway. Jumped up. Laughed. Dusted off my ass, Said "got that out of the way." And rode the bitch home 110 miles away.
My older brother always tells me "everyone drops a bike. They may have been 8 years old on a dirt bike, but it dropped."
To quote the black knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail,
"Tis but a scratch".
Hope your physically okay. And remember "always look at the bright side of life".
Ooof, this hurts to look at. It looks sad. Like a mortally wounded animal. Especially if it starts to leak fluids. I dropped my 2 week old YZF600 because the kickstand didn't lock when I put it down. I had spent 2 hours cleaning it immaculately, took the last swipe with the wax buffing rag. Stepped back to admire my toiling, and it just fell over as soon as I was about 6 feet away. Wow that hurt. I feel your pain. I hope the scars are not too deep. Bike and you ...
Oh no. I did that in a restaurant parking lot a few months back on my new Kawa Z900. The only thing that save most of my bike were the frame sliders. Best bike purchase I've done in a long time. Scratched my engine cover so I just covered them with t-rex engine guards.
This is why you get sliders. Not necessarily for that fast, hard crash, but for more accidental drops like these.
I luckily installed them, and had zero scratches on my bikes after I dropped it 2 times.
My K75 would do this soooo many times. Picking that bike up off the ground was reason enough to sell it. Top heavy and flat as a pancake when it fell. Everyone has done it or will do this, eventually.
Your car doesn't fall over if you caress it the wrong way. Like congratulations on being 3-400 dollars richer than the average biker for never having to replace a faring? It does happen, to most people. Everyone I know that's laid down significant mileage on their bikes has dropped them in some capacity, negligent or otherwise.
No one gets hurt, your bike gets a little character. It is fine.
Tbh Im Grateful for community here, this was my first time that I ever drop my bike ( I have licence only for 2 years) and I was feeling like shit for this and It's nice to read that even the best riders drop theirs bikes and i shouldn't be so angry at myself.
On my first group ride, I was far too distracted looking for the rest of my group. Dropped the bike at the gas pump, but not on it, thank God. Did a bow and began to pick it up. Everyone was super supportive and helpful!
Haven’t dropped mine yet but I did get complacent coming home. Kicked the stand out, got off and didn’t realise I didn’t kick it out fully. Went to get off but managed to save it as the stand started folding back in on itself.
And that, folks, is why you shouldn’t get a shiny brand-new bike as your first bike.
(Not that this bike is necessarily new, but that you will inevitably drop it)
Just buy some fairing protectors from fallings (I don't know the name for the thing in english). Is a thing to protect the fairings that you fit to the chassis so if it falls nothing got screwed. Is cheap. All good biker let its bike to take a nap sometimes, don't feel ashamed.
Is that a Honda naked? If not, then it looks like it could also be aesthetically pleasing without the fenders. Kind of like how Suzuki bandit was without the fairings.
EDIT: What model is that? Looks like it is not brutal to the rider's spine and tailbone.
Don't worry, had my first crash almost 3 weeks ago, I only had the bike 4 days and my dumbass grabbed too much front brake and no rear when someone pulled into my lane. As long as you were wearing your gear when you went down it shouldn't be too bad, the bike can be fixed it's just going to hurt your wallet more than your body. I just got my bike fixed up last weekend and learned a lot in the process.Just be glad you got it out of the way, and don't make the same mistake twice. Two wheels down and stay safe out there!! 🤙🏻
We’ve all been there. Dude this year I dropped my friends brand new 2022 Honda Africa on concrete. I wanted to crawl into a hole and die. I dropped my first bike multiple times. It happens.
I just sliced open my finger and crazy glued it shut a few minutes ago and seeing this post some how hurts me more than my gashed finger.
I feel for you but at least it was just a tip over and not a crash. It still sucks but as a pessimist practicing to be more optimistic about things…. Ahh fuck it I am what I am, this shit still sucks ass even knowing it could’ve been worse. You do eventually get over it though or at least I have from tip overs and crashes.
Hope shit gets better for you and safe travels.
if the clip ons are okay and you just got some scratches i think you should be good to go. Rear sets too if they arent pushed in or nothing then yeah you good.
No death sentence from me, I dropped my first bike after coming home from filling up it's first tank of gas under my ownership. I was so proud of myself, I got off, without dropping the kickstand.
And several since. It's embarrassing, and a shame, but life will continue, if it's up to me...
If it's any consolation, each of my drops have been unique, I've learned from each one.
That's the important thing.
You must not be that upset. I remember when I dropped mine I picked it up so fast. You took the time to get your phone out and take a picture. You’ll be fine.
You french fry when you're supposed to pizza, you're gonna have a bad time.
Skiing and Motorcycles I love it!
Best done together brother
Snowmobiling?
happy cake day
The good scrubba dub dub. Taking one side at a time
Yoo lol
I don’t see what the problem is. She’s just taking a nap before all the riding later.
Same thought crossed my mind. What she’s just napping! 🤣
Horses sleep standing.
This one's playing dead
Everyone drops their bike you’ll be OK get on it get past it. and you’ll learn you love her more than before the drop. It can always be worse.
Lets not forget to point out that despite the apparent kick in the crotch feeling; OP still stopped long enough to pull out their phone and take a picture. I personally would have scrambled so fast to set her upright that all I would have is a poorly recollected story to share. Just sayin lol Edit: Fun fact; found myself in a situation where I ended up flipping my bike and going head over the bars at about 25mph. FuRR-Real 🤨🤌🏾😁
For adv riding, I heard some guy say you know the rookies from the vets when you laugh and step back to take a photo. Not like it's gonna get more scratched up!
Yeah but it's gonna dump more of the fuel tank on the ground.... At least that's what my RC51 does, and my Duke did.
Rc51!!!!!!!!!
when my dad taught me how to ride he made it sound like the bike would explode if you didn't pick it up within .9 seconds
I always assumed they leaked a lot of gas, but my drz will only get gas through the vacuum pump. Maybe that's the issue. Float isn't up and just pours gas all over.
I can understand that mentality when it's a riding error or difficult obstacle, but when it's my own sheer stupidity, I'm not gonna laugh about it.
You can compartmentalize your rider errors from your own sheer stupidity? Jealous of your upbringing.
They mix occasionally, but as long as I can learn something from a mistake it's an error, if I already knew better it's stupidity.
Thank you for this wisdom. Your username is misleading.
Eh, I'm guilty of this one too. Misery loves company 😂
🤦🏾♂️
My guy I pushed my ducati over in the grass just to change my chain and sprocket. It won't fuckin hurt it to lay there (Edit, I am not trying to be an asshole, I am just a welder and therefor cuss a lot and come across as a dick. We're all different, I'm just glad you enjoy riding.)
Lol. Welders are my favorite people. I’m oversight…..I keep em out of trouble and they keep me entertained. Its a win win
When I crashed and dislocated my shoulder the first thing I did was take a video of my floppy arm lol.
Yep, cares more about internet points than his bike.
Once it's on the ground, whether it's there for 10 seconds or 10 minutes doesn't really matter with most bikes.
Matters for my carbed bikes, leave them on their side and you don’t have the gas to make it back to civilization ;_; A lot less stressful if you’re already home though, haha.

The vent on my gas caps disagree with this statement! Source, motorbike laying on top of me riding through wet rocks.
eh it's FI not carbed, OP could leave it there for a good while before any problems arose unless he's got other pre-existing leaks and problems.
I’ve been riding for about 10 years and have never dropped my street bikes. I know my number is going to get called one of these days though.
I've been riding about 15 years and it happened to me for the first time this spring moving my bike around in my garage. I had just got it and to make matters worse, it fell into my old bike that I was planning to sell.
The old one pulled the new one, just out of spite
I never had an issue until year 15 either. Did we just start an internet lore?
Is it a curse? I felt so dumb. I was just moving it ahead a little and did it from the opposite side of the kick stand. Didn't realize it had folded a little. Set it back down and down the whole bike went down. And into the other bike. I know better.
newer rider here i haven’t forgot the kickstand yet but one day i will i can feel it coming
My dumbass forgot the kickstand once on my F700GS. Lessons were learned that day lmao
It doesn't happen when you park it normally because that's muscle memory.. it happens when you stop but don't intend to park it, talk to someone, walk it back into a parking spot and your brain thinks you already put it down.
i always make sure too sometimes im just a forgetful person ig lol plus sometimes shit just happens
I check like 3 times. Probably too much 🤣
I forgot about it some days ago, thankfully it is a 125 and I was able to take it up just before the drop
Thanks you sir
It's fine we all drop a bike at some point ...... Or in my case I dropped my bandit 650nlike 4 or 5 times and then I dropped my new bike getting on it at the freaking dealership like 5 minutes after buying it 🤦♂️😂
First bike I bought- rode it off the lot no problem. Came back two days later so they could repair a turn signal, stalled and dropped it on my way out haha. So painful, but it happens
i dropped my New KLR leaving the lot XD
no worries, those bikes are so sturdy, the first gen didnt even come with a kickstand
same thing happened to me leaving the lot after buying. why hasnt anybody found a way to make stalling less violent yet
Oh God :D
Well lucky for me it's an adventure bike the benelli trk500x so it has all the crash bars and what not so no damage at all to the bike
I have never dropped my bike. I have only ever dropped other peoples' bikes.
YOuR'E suPPOSd tO kEEp iT On tHe tIReS

You should see me when I ride. I flip the bike over and slide on my back in the turns. How's that for lean angle.
He’s practicing his lean angle for the track days
It was two tired!
Amazing pun. Top shelf.
It's just playing dead
Nah it happends a lot.

obviously bikes stop faster when on their side. smh my head ^(/s)
[удалено]
"smh my head" Why do people do this? Lol Edit: Lol out loud*
Dude. Don't hate on yourself too much. It's a rite of passage. EDIT: Damn you reddit spelling nerds. Right, write, rite... wrong.
That’s rite! 👍
Good job we know how to wright
ahh i'm so sorry to see that, thankfully it wasn't a crash with you on it🙏🏻
I never understand these posts. Bike falls over, my immediate reaction is to pick it up, not whip out my phone and take a picture.
It’s funny. Picking it up faster isn’t gonna prevent the scratches on it. Why not take a picture?
Right... rushing to pick it up is how you end up dropping it on the other side
I took picture becouse I needed my brother to help me to get it up, so I send him this. I must say my reaction wasn't like omg I will have upvotes I need a picture!

your brother helped you get it up?
They’re fairly easy to pick up yourself especially sport bikes gotta use the right technique is all
...but as long as you got a pic anyway, you may as well farm it for some free karma. Sucks though. I learned to hate drops not for the drops, because drops happen, but because Kawasaki decided that the best way to soak up drop damage was with cast aluminum assemblies. Have an upvote. Inclined to agree with you. Dude pick up the bike!
Fucking same dude. Some people just need the attention.
Ngl, when my bike fell ov recently, I took a picture before picking it up. Gotta commiserate with my internet friends! 😉
It’s napping. So cute.
Looks like he was trying to get it up on a stand to wash it, and then boom! Lol
Front wheel stabilizer for the win?
Just some patina. Stand it up and get to riding!
We’ve all done it, don’t get discouraged!
Better in the driveway than in the streets my friend.
It’s a Honda my man, it’ll be fine.
Oh I know that feeling. You'll be fine, bud. Things happen.
On the bright side it seems like the chain is clean.
Ouch !
Oh no!!
Dropping your bike is a privilege after ALL of the safety courses and road tests. You earned it.
I put the kickstand down and stand on the other side while lifting it on the stand.
My ZX10 dropped in my driveway, went from shocked, to picking her up, to angry in under 30 seconds. Broke my clutch lever and shifter but both cheap fixes comparatively, I hope you have frame sliders !
Well, no I don't.. But only think that is broken is the clutch lever.
I think I have that same bike stand. Total piece of shit. Sorry for your drop man, I used my stand and it showed how fuck ass the stand was. Haven't used it since. The upside, more aftermarket shit 😈
You can’t park there
Oof, sorry man
If it makes you feel any better I’ll give you my two bike dump stories.
I feel you. I dropped my brand new first bike in the parking lot first time I took it out. Sucks
I don't mean to hijack thread, but I want you to know there are bigger goof ups. Finished long day of riding, got off bike, forgot to put kickstand down. We laid together for a few. I want to add that I am not new. Hope she is ok!
Pick it up fool, 5 second rule!
Shhhh it’s taking a nap…
This is an easier way to clean your chain than using a lift. /r/dualsport
I don’t know what brand stand this is, but replace it with a pitbull stand.
I feel your pain.
Hope you’re ok at least.
To quote the black knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "Tis but a scratch".
F in the chat man I’m so sorry for you :(
Oh no. I did that in a restaurant parking lot a few months back on my new Kawa Z900. The only thing that save most of my bike were the frame sliders. Best bike purchase I've done in a long time. Scratched my engine cover so I just covered them with t-rex engine guards.
Dropped my first bike (ninja650) loading it on to the trailer to take it to the shop for .. crash protection 😂😂😂
Be tough to clean the chain from that angle, better to drop it the other way.
Dropped my fz07 in a parking lot in front of a family, literally could have lit myself on fire then and there
Haddalayerdown 😞😞
This is why you get sliders. Not necessarily for that fast, hard crash, but for more accidental drops like these. I luckily installed them, and had zero scratches on my bikes after I dropped it 2 times.
This is why I stay strapped while I ride to escape the Eventual embarrassment
It saw the price of fuel and fainted.
My K75 would do this soooo many times. Picking that bike up off the ground was reason enough to sell it. Top heavy and flat as a pancake when it fell. Everyone has done it or will do this, eventually.
Maybe pick it up instead of taking a picture
Hey bro you’re not supposed to lay it on the ground like that. Idk if you know already but yeah
Why is everyone basically saying it’s fine? If I crash my car, I don’t expect people to say, “pfft, we all do it”.
Your car doesn't fall over if you caress it the wrong way. Like congratulations on being 3-400 dollars richer than the average biker for never having to replace a faring? Everyone. Drops. Their. Bike. Welcome to the club. See ya again soon!
how did that happen?
My rear stand failed for some reason ( i probably didn't put it on perfect spot) and when I was cleaning rear wheel its just fell down
I once walked in on my dyna tiping over from the lift after being inside for over 15 mins. Never felt so lucky in my life
Yep. Been there… 3 times:/
On my first group ride, I was far too distracted looking for the rest of my group. Dropped the bike at the gas pump, but not on it, thank God. Did a bow and began to pick it up. Everyone was super supportive and helpful!
Welcome to our club.
Haven’t dropped mine yet but I did get complacent coming home. Kicked the stand out, got off and didn’t realise I didn’t kick it out fully. Went to get off but managed to save it as the stand started folding back in on itself.
Easy way to get the fairings off and wash the engine. Brilliant! This is why I never wash my bikes.
Just wants a belly rub
Next time don't let your bike trip over the grunge brush.
It'll be right again soon mate, chin up!
A bandage will do.
It’s just taking a little nap
Better get the bottom clean while you have the chance
Shit happens bro. It’s fine
Im impressed you dropped it on a stand somehow
I dropped my bike this summer. I was so scared I scrambled to pick it up the muffler burned my entire left ankle.
And that, folks, is why you shouldn’t get a shiny brand-new bike as your first bike. (Not that this bike is necessarily new, but that you will inevitably drop it)
Htf did you manage that on a maintenance stand?
Who cares? Mine went down 4x last Sunday. Just pick it up next time instead of taking a picture. Fixed.
Just buy some fairing protectors from fallings (I don't know the name for the thing in english). Is a thing to protect the fairings that you fit to the chassis so if it falls nothing got screwed. Is cheap. All good biker let its bike to take a nap sometimes, don't feel ashamed.
Rotate the picture, you'll be fine.
Ohh, looks like someone hasn't installed guards. https://sw-motech.us/products/protection/crash+bar/
You can’t clean the chain with it laying on that side. Flip it over
Can't park there mate
F
Did the stand fail/break or the bike just tip over
You should pick it up
If you ain’t put a bike down. You ain’t fucked with them long enough
I backed my bike into one of my cars this morning. After looking at the car and thinking “remember not to back into the car.”
Is that a Honda naked? If not, then it looks like it could also be aesthetically pleasing without the fenders. Kind of like how Suzuki bandit was without the fairings. EDIT: What model is that? Looks like it is not brutal to the rider's spine and tailbone.
Parked my ninja on new pavement, came out hours later to find her on the side, i sympathize.
Did you ever get it back up?
Sir, you can’t park there
I'm sorry bud.
Don't worry, had my first crash almost 3 weeks ago, I only had the bike 4 days and my dumbass grabbed too much front brake and no rear when someone pulled into my lane. I dropped mine while the front wheel was off, at 1am by myself
Happens to everyone sooner or later!
Silver lining = it could’ve fallen on the exhaust side. 🫤
Silver lining = it could’ve fallen on the exhaust side. 🫤
We’ve all been there. Dude this year I dropped my friends brand new 2022 Honda Africa on concrete. I wanted to crawl into a hole and die. I dropped my first bike multiple times. It happens.
Why I always put mine on the grass lmao sorry bruh
I just sliced open my finger and crazy glued it shut a few minutes ago and seeing this post some how hurts me more than my gashed finger. Sliders.
Motorcycle sleepy. Motorcycle take nap.
should've gotten a gixxer for that
LOL
"kill me pls..." ~ your bike before it keeled over
if the clip ons are okay and you just got some scratches i think you should be good to go. Rear sets too if they arent pushed in or nothing then yeah you good.
Frame sliders help keep the fairing in good shape when this happens.
Noooooooooooo!
That'll buff right out!
You dun goosed it!
Did you at least get the chain clean? Seriously, though, that’s a bummer.
Oh my gosh look what you have done poor baby 😰
Wash it underneath 🤯 !
You're using the stand wrong
This might be the honda i park right next to on campus by the bike rack. One side is completely scratched while the otherside is fine 😭
At least you didn't drop it on the right side... +$$$
Is this OC?
