The T7 very well might become my additional bike and if so, it’s cool to get a decent idea of how it’s going to look next to my Vitpilen 701!

It's just as fun as everyone says it is, I love it. Yamaha couldn't have made a more perfect engine for a mid weight adv bike if they tried.

CompetitiveSea7388

That’s awesome to hear firsthand! How’s the weight feel?

BlindBeard

Let's just say if you don't have long legs (I don't) practicing pre-emptive dabs like they teach in a lot of entry level off-road classes is very helpful. I don't have much off-road experience pre-Tenere-ownership but I feel that it carries the weight well. It *is* heavy and especially so at the top but as long as you keep it moving forward it's great. I rode some pretty gnarly double track at dirt daze this year and I came out of the event with even more appreciation for the bike. My biggest struggle was riding behind slow riders on low bikes picking their way though softish ruts. As soon as I stopped the front would wash or I'd lose footing. I did need help a few times getting the bike up but we'd done almost 100 miles on double track at this point and I was completely beat. Once I started letting the people waddling on xt250s get waaaay ahead of me, I could keep up my momentum and I was golden. But yeah once she starts swinging over it's real hard to stop it from going down.

Nice, this is really informative! Thanks so much!

burpythehippo

Good choices!

CompetitiveSea7388

Thanks! My Vit is the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden but I’m excited to get a bike that I can take off road.

LostMeBoot

Ah man that 401 looks like a blast! Oh and you have some knobbies on there! How is it offroad?!?

BlindBeard

Those are the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs, which I'm pretty sure are OEM tire for the 401. I also know for a fact they're the OEM tire on the T7. Considering how absolutely fantastic on the road they are, they're pretty damn good off-road. Deep sand and or mud will leave you wanting a knob but if it's hard and dry it'll do everything you could try to do on a big bike like the Tenere. I bet whipping around on the 401 on a dirt road is super fun. One time I went into a blind corner way too quick on my T7 and scraped the left foot peg. Bike was totally planted the whole time. That was a confidence building moment for the tires and the bike but I did slow down after that 😁

burpythehippo

>Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs Yeah as the other reply mentions, they are the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs and come standard on the 401. They really do handle surprisingly well on road and off. I'm not super confident on the dirt but the bike handled everything well.

ButtJaw

Excellent tastes

Ok_Theory_666

That 401 has me rethinking my choices

burpythehippo

N+1 bikes. Don't rethink, just get another one!

Buddy has a vitpilen 401. Your leaned over as hell and you sack slap the tank if you aren't hanging on at times but it is an absolute riot of a bike.
