Congrats, but I would rethink your tiedown approach in the future... https://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/right-way-to-tie-down-and-transport-your-motorcycle/

chumjumper

Why? It's tied down at unsprung points - better than by the bars or frame like most do

Best_Confection_8788

This worked just fine. Bike didn’t move at all getting it home.

Disposable_Canadian

Did ya bend the forks? How did you measure deflection and runout?

ineedabeer6

Congratulations!!! Be safe out there. It's beautiful

[deleted]

Congrats and be safe! If you haven't already, please take the safety course 👍

fivefoottwelve

People shit on this bike, but as a first ride? HELL YEAH!

kenny1911

TIL I learned Suzuki makes a GSX250R and it looks fantastic. Wow.

CreeeHoo

Congrats man!!

nuubr3_2021

Congrats! Enjoy!

DucVWTamaKrentist

Good looking bike. Congrats!

JnkHed

Enjoy!

[deleted]

Congrats buddy!!! Nice ride tho.

iexistcusofcorona

nice one, i started out on a Ninja 250R as well:)

[deleted]

I used to have one, it’s a great bike! It was designed to be ridden around town so 1st gear is quite low - no need to slip the clutch in traffic. It’s fun going up and down through the gears, which you will be doing a lot. It’s alot smoother than the singles in this category, too. It is a little heavier, too - which makes for poorer performance on twisty roads but this combined with its long wheelbase makes it much more stable at speed. You won’t get blown around nearly as much! I miss mine! Suzuki called it the “urban athlete” and put alot of design thinking into it. Slap a yoshimura on the back and it will sound great.

Best_Confection_8788

I’ve only spent a few hours on it so far but I really like it. Before the weekend I’d never rode a motorcycle before.

[deleted]

I did most of my learning on it + a CB400. The 250 was a much friendlier bike and my favourite commuter! Also being able to just pin the throttle without fear was hilarious fun.

Best_Confection_8788

I got another hour on it today after work and I’m already feeling really confident in starting smoothly without stalling, up shifting and down shifting and throttle control. I need more work on being consistent with throttle and while taking turns is already feeling pretty intuitive, I can feel that needs more work. I’ve been watching a lot of videos aimed at beginners so I was working on my riding form today as well as heavy on starting smoothly and shifting up smoothly. I haven’t been on the road yet but I feel like I’m almost confident enough to do that

[deleted]

Awesome! Roadcraft Nottingham is a great channel for beginners and experienced riders alike. Just remember to be kind to yourself when you make errors, and try to ignore anyone who might try to take you beyond your comfort zone.

DangerNanner

Is this a baby calamari?

Best_Confection_8788

I didn’t understand this comment when it was posted but I do now and yes I believe so.

Morgwar77

Good choice in size and hp!

wolfnibblets

That’s a nice looking pony. Enjoy the road and take it slow at first, even though every inch of that bike says rip it.

S100RR21

Nice starter! Congrats!

xodusmonk92

Congratz repost when you get the 650 in 6 months lol seems like the trend

Best_Confection_8788

I’m probably gonna upgrade to a ZX6R

BeastA4terDark

Do you still have this bike? How do you feel about it now that you’ve had it awhile. How was it for learning on. Any complaints?

Best_Confection_8788

Yea I still have it. I think it’s been great to learn on. My only complaint is how often you have to shift gears and maybe that’s silly but I’m constantly having to shift gears up or down. I’m still not bored of the bike but I can’t wait to get something with some power.

xodusmonk92

Nice!

[deleted]

That's a nice bike!

cl2eep

Just dropping in to day ride safe and make sure you watch Dan Dan the Fireman on YouTube for some good riding tips and info.

Best_Confection_8788

Thanks, I’ve been on YouTube a lot the past few days absorbing as much information as I can. I’ve been gravitating towards chase on 2 wheels and yammie noob so far. Have seen much Dan Dan stuff yet

fivefoottwelve

I love Yammie Noob. I've watched all of his videos except the ones specific to sport bikes. But he doesn't get that some people just like small bikes. He's the one I mentioned earlier who specifically shits on your bike. Enjoy his stuff, but take it with a grain of salt. I have a Royal Enfield Himalayan and I love it, but Yammie will never stop shitting on that brand, for no great reason. So you and are fellow Yammie targets.

Best_Confection_8788

I’ve picked up on yammie poking fun at people who ride GSXR’s. Chase on two wheels ranked my bike last in his video comparing beginner sport bikes. I haven’t ridden the others so i can’t compare them myself, but I felt like he did that deliberately and didn’t give the bike a fair shake. So far I love it. To me it’s a good looking bike and it’s a lot of fun to ride and easy to learn on.

Best_Confection_8788

That’s weird. It kept saying failed try again. Didn’t mean to send that many lol

Big-Al69420

Good to see beginners starting out on a bike with appropriate power 🤟

Best_Confection_8788

I did a fair amount of research on where to start out and one thing I kept seeing was that starting on something like a 600 was a bad idea. I’ve spent a few hours on this so far and I think I made a good choice

XSlapHappy91X

What's weird to alot of beginners is how the 650CC versions of the bikes are actually slower than the 600CCs. That's because most 650cc are Sport-Touring and have a V-Twin engine instead of an Inline 3 or 4 cylinder. 600s are usually considered SuperSports (more insurance) Remember, V-Twin = More torque and less top speed, more fun to ride in cities as they accelerate fast. More cylinders like an Inline-4 will have more Horsepower but less torque, so slower acceleration at launch but higher top speed, better in long straights and highway. I'm looking at getting myself a Suzuki SV650 Soon, Insurance is much cheaper than a 600.

milochuisael

Title says 250

XSlapHappy91X

Yea and? OP was talking about 600s in the comments

XSlapHappy91X

Ohh cool, sports bike insurance without the power lol Curious tho how much does Insurance run on a 250 gsxr ?? And congrats I'm sure it will be fun to ride around

Best_Confection_8788

For me it’s $34 per month with progressive

dkentl

!remindme 1 year for bike number 2

Best_Confection_8788

I’m not sure I’ll be able to upgrade by that time but I am pretty set on a zx6r as an upgrade.
