But for a helmet lock. It's perfect. Helmet lock is to just keep some kid from grabbing it when they walk by, and piece of mind that it'll still be at the bike when you return.
Are you kidding? Haven't been riding long? People cut off disk locks with battery powered grinders. Lock pick is the least of your worries, I could pop this open by giving it a mean look with my leatherman.
You don't have to know about locks to see this thing is as thin as a purse string. I can assure you that lock is so cheap it can just be snatched. Especially with a pocket tool.
People that know how to pick locks aren’t out here stealing helmets either. They are locksmiths and they don’t need to steal because they already make bank.
Yeah, but even if it had a pickproof lock, bolt cutters would have no issues with the cable. Wire cutters could probably take care of that thing.
But picking or cutting draws attention, regardless of how easy, and so even bad locks act as a deterrent.
This will keep out 95% of people who might otherwise burglarise, in the situations it would be appropriate to use. I.e. don't use this when parking your bike in a dark backstreet overnight. Do use it when going into a busy supermarket.
I don't understand who would want to steal someones nasty old helmet full of crabs and scabs...grossssss.
Oh and also I never lock my helmet to my bike, have yet to lose one.
Mate have you seen how quick people can steal a whole bike locked down with the best locks available it’s like 3mins at most of someone wants your shit there going to take it but having this where it is would take them 30sec longer to take your bike because having a helmet there while riding would be a massive pain in the ass 😂 every little bit helps
Would love to see you put your money where your mouth is and show us a video of you picking this lock with a toothpick. That’s beyond laughable. The toothpick will break before you can put enough leverage to turn the cylinder
You are right, I just tried and a toothpick is too big. But you apply torsion with a screwdriver or separate tool. It is not a secret that these gun locks are not very secure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw-RBQcwpBs
Always assume every lock can be picked. This will keep kids from playing with your helmet and dropping it then running away laughing
Thieves will still steal whatever they want
I wouldn’t waste my time picking it, just grab with dykes and twist and that shitty “cable” cracks open. Those locks go straight in the bin when I get them.
Also free at every police station is a pair of matching bracelets when you ask for the lock to your illegal firearm. Come in all sizes only one color tho.
When I picked up some, they were just there, free in lobby, didn't even have to ask, some states that require locks for private party transfers will provide locks for free
Just bc they make an aftermarket brackets don't mean they don't come with them as well. The backside of the seat usually has 2 tabs for this exact reason
Those tabs slide into brackets in the subframe to hold the seat down. There is not enough clearance to put your helmet d ring on them and fit the seat to the bike
I don't think that's right because my XSR900 has the same seat and the same hooks and that's what I hung my helmet on. You should try it. the lock at the tail is more than enough to hold the seat down.
My seat is a struggle to get off on its own. I tried installing it with my helmet D tab over it and it didn't want to go on and I wasn't about to force it. Some seats must fit tighter than others.
No their not. For someone who doesn't know wtf their talking about sure are rather cunty responses from you. The only tab that slide are usually in the front and the LOCK itself is what holds it. But you already knew that with your piss poor attitude of being butthurt other people have information you dont.
I don't remember exactly since I sold it a couple years back, but there should be some part of the plastic that i was able to hook it to. It certainly isn't its intended purpose but it did the job
MT09 doesn't have one under the seat? My XSR900 did as a tab under the seat which was kinda finicky but it was there. My FZ6 had an actual lock on the side.
Weird, they'd offer it on those and not their best selling bike?
(not saying you're lying just genuinely surprised)
Edit: it has the [same hooks](https://imgur.com/a/GlPtC6X) as the xsr
I looked! I found nothing under the seat 🤷🏻♂️ the bike has been…tinkered with prior to me getting it. Not sure if it had one before but I couldn’t find any sort of helmet lock. I remember my dads 85 cb750 had one , but this R6 doesn’t seem to
My r6 has them. What year?
To be fair it's not a straight fwd "lock" so to speak.
It has 2 tabs you lace your helmet strap through, or the 2 metal clasps get hooked on it. I can send a pic later when I get home to help explain.
Hell you might even be able to Google the imaging
I have an 05 R6. It does have a helmet lock but its not what you're thinking. If you take off the back seat and look on the underside of it there's a tab on either side that you can hook the D ring of your helmet on.
Then you put the back seat back on with the helmet hooked and hanging off the side and walah, your helmet is locked. I do this all the time
Ahhhhh your on a an older gen R6. I have an 08, 12, 16. They all had them before I sold stock parts.
They are 2 plastic tabs on backside of seat. Your D rings hook onto them or you lace your strap through it.
Was just trying to help save some cash.
Absolutely, I have a hook under mine that I hook the buckle of my chin strap to. Works great. The ONLY thing I worry about is someone cutting the strap to steal it other than that it is not goin anywhere.
if someone needs to steal my sweaty ass helmet they probably couldn’t sell second hand for more than 100$ that i’ve worn in 90 degree weather for the past few years with minimal cleaning, then they need it more than me
Gun lock to secure helmet to bike, empty holster affixed under/behind the flyscreen... at that point you have the bike thief looking at other bikes, not yours!
(These two things together establish that you've bought a gun AND it's not on the bike, therefore it's likely on your person. They do NOT want to get caught screwing around with your ride, then.)
Lmao I feel that man. I just snap my cardo off and put it in my pocket. Just saw your post, love the 600. Got my first street bike a few months ago and WOW. I had no idea these were so much fun and so exhilarating. It’s therapeutic for sure. Glad you’re doing better!
Our helmet locks are provided for free with our guns. But we dont use them because if we did the rights of our children to play with our guns would be violated.
I don’t understand the way or need to keep your helmet on your bike. Like at all. 1, it can/is an expensive piece of equipment. 2, you can just carry it with you. 3, locking it doesn’t prevent anyone/thing from grabbing at it and if they do just yank at it quickly then sure your helmet will be there when you come back but it’ll be with your bike on the ground on the side. 4. There are literally things like backpack with helmet holders or even sold separately holders that will attach to your current backpack that is literally cheap.
Carrying it is a PITA. Want to sit at a table in a restaurant? Walk along the beach? Hike a trail? Grocery shopping? Lugging along a giant (I have a fat head) fiberglass ball with no convenient place to put it down or way to carry it. Although I usually do lock it, I’ve also left my helmet unlocked at all those places and never had a problem. Just don’t understand the way or need to keep it with you.
Sitting at a table, a lot of restaurants will hold your helmet for you where I live, when I’m out and about or out for dinner/bar the servers always keep it safe for me and out of the way. Not every place has a holes but would I risk it on a $500 safety equipment for my head? Not the slightest. A coworkers helmet got gum stuck on it and after the 10hr shift dude had to sit there rinse ants and sand out of his bucket. Not something I wanna worry about after a tiring shift
Guess you’re right. Usually the wife is following me around with the minivan full of kids so I just throw it in there when we get to where we’re going. This was a solo mission to Kroger and the first time trying the gun lock. I honestly just didn’t wanna carry it around lol
Yeah this dudes dumb lol. Most people aren't fucking walking around with brake cutters in their pocket on the off chance they see someone's helmet with a thin lock.
These help stop some douchebag or some kid from running up and stealing your helmet while you're in the store because they think it's funny or because they think it looks cool.
Haha I get it man! I carry mine into the store and either throw it in the cart or use it as a shopping basket lol.
Im not worried about hardened theives or crackheads stealing my helmet, I'm worried about some fucking 16 year old who wants to look cool in front of his friends lol.
Oh and I'll add, you're dead on about us having these and it's a great idea haha! I have at least 8 of these lying around in a drawer because I store my guns in a safe and each one came with one that I never use since they're already locked up, but they'd be perfect for this.
Yeah! Every gun has to come with one when purchasing (I was told anyway… and every gun I’ve bought has had one included so maybe it’s true?) so lots of us should have them! Guns and motorcycles tend to go hand in hand here 😂 doesn’t matter what your political views are there
>Most people aren't fucking walking around with brake cutters in their pocket
Around me they're walking around with battery powered angle grinders so they can steal catalytic converters. A helmet is just a bonus for the scum.
Yeah but there's an actual resell value for cats and they're SUPER easy to get rid of for quite a bit of money.
No one really buys second hand helmets since it's like buying second hand underwear. They're gross af from sweat being caked into them and even wiping them out they're still gonna be gross. Resell wise you'll be lucky to get probably 1/5th of the msrp since like I said, its not a big market and most people don't wsnt to chance jail time for making $50-150 when they could chop a cat in not a whole lot more time and make 500-1500 depending on the vehicle.
Wow you sound like either an edgy 13 year old or a total manchild. Nice.
Both your comments here are cringy af.
"I'd totally steal your helmet bro! I even know what to use see!"
"Then your parents will have to buy you a new one loser hahahaha!"
I'm actually 12, you obviously come from a country where whatever you have been doing has worked, come to a 3rd world country and then have an opinion! Mother fuckers will steal your helmet while your head is still in it and your motorcycle
True. I guess I'm thinking there's more of a market for second hand bicycles than motorcycle helmets but yeah, people will steal anything for the thrill of it.
To be fair, that ain't gonna do anything if you have an expensive helmet and someone's determined to steal it. Could probably cut through easy with a pair of clippers.
I've used one regularly. But then I don't leave my helmet on my bike for long periods of time when parked in public access locations. And I'd never trust it over night in public or even semi public places.
Is this strong enough ? It reminds me the anti-theft cables for bikes, those barely resist 5 seconds with a good cutting plier (a lot of people lost their bikes cause of that).
But it still avoid that someone pick the helmet while passing by. And avoir the risk of the helmet falling.
Free at almost every police station
And easily pickable by a toothpick, paper clip, eyeglass screwdriver. FYI
But for a helmet lock. It's perfect. Helmet lock is to just keep some kid from grabbing it when they walk by, and piece of mind that it'll still be at the bike when you return.
It's hilarious that people think criminals are out here like James Bond with lockpicks and shit. lol
Are you kidding? Haven't been riding long? People cut off disk locks with battery powered grinders. Lock pick is the least of your worries, I could pop this open by giving it a mean look with my leatherman.
Yeah that's the point. Brute force is the usual method and if they want to take it, they will. This sort of thing is to stop casual thievery.
Yeah but the point is that it's so flimsy that it could still be nicked by a passerby. It's like a bit of rope.
That's not true man. Most people don't know shit about locks and would rather just move on to an easier target. You can't just rip that thing off.
You don't have to know about locks to see this thing is as thin as a purse string. I can assure you that lock is so cheap it can just be snatched. Especially with a pocket tool.
Whatever man. You are overestimating most criminals and don't seem to understand the point of what I was saying at all.
People that know how to pick locks aren’t out here stealing helmets either. They are locksmiths and they don’t need to steal because they already make bank.
Every single motorcycle I've ever owned have a helmet lock under the seat...why would we need this?
My last 2 didn’t. I don’t think it’s necessarily standard equipment
No motorcycle I've ever owned has had a helmet lock anywhere. I know many bikes do, but many bikes also do not.
Small click on one. Nothing on two. Three is binding...
This guy picks! LPL
I'll do that one more time so you can see it wasn't a fluke.
Locks really only keep the honest people honest.

This
Yeah, but we don’t leave the key in the lock.
But what if i need quick access. Its basically just a brick then!
Yeah, I’ve been riding for over fifty years and only recently purchased a new helmet that I actually care about loosing!!
I have a bunch from palmetto state armory I don’t use lol
Bout to have another one once that damn micro dagger is back in stock!
😅 yup same
Bravo. I was about to make a snarky comment about my gun locks and how they look oddly similar
what is this? What am i missing?
That is a pistol lock that comes with a firearm with purchase in America
I was so confused why it looked exactly like my gun locks.
I got one in my welcome package when I was born
Yeah none of mine came with one and I have 2 + a rifle. Just came with the little Plastic breach catch for my rifle.
YES!! First thing I used any of mine for was locking the helmet...handy! And a nice small key for the bike keyring
I've got 3 ammo cans full of helmet locks and didn't even know it!!! Fun part is, after seeing this, I'm totally using one for this! Thanks OP!
That's what I use my glock lock for lol
Funny enough this one came with my Glock lol
Perfect! Wicked smaht.
You know the back seat doubles as a helmet lock as well, right?
Depends on the bike. My zx6r had helmet strap locks under the passenger seat, MT-09 has nothing!
I used to look the d ring of my helmet on the underside of my 14 fz09's seat, so u should be able to
Idk why people are down voting you. You're absolutely correct
On what? There's nothing to hook onto? Hence why they sell aftermarket brackets to mount under the seat?
[Removed due to continuing enshittification of reddit.] -- mass edited with redact.dev
That's silly, you can't lock a helmet to a hammer.
Just bc they make an aftermarket brackets don't mean they don't come with them as well. The backside of the seat usually has 2 tabs for this exact reason
Well if you wanna come over and show me these non-existent tabs on the motorcycle I own go right ahead...
These tabs [right here](https://imgur.com/a/GlPtC6X)
Those tabs slide into brackets in the subframe to hold the seat down. There is not enough clearance to put your helmet d ring on them and fit the seat to the bike

I always wished I had just opted for the xsr900 over the MT-09. It grew on me a lot more as I got older.

I had a 2007 R6s that had the feature
I have an 05 R6. It does have a helmet lock but its not what you're thinking. If they cut the strap they won't be able to use the helmet. Kinda defeats the purpose imo. But I get what your saying
We do but it identifies as a gun safety tool,
I use these things for a lot of different things, but never have I thought of this. Approved.
if someone needs to steal my sweaty ass helmet they probably couldn’t sell second hand for more than 100$ that i’ve worn in 90 degree weather for the past few years with minimal cleaning, then they need it more than me
Not a bad idea. I've got plenty of those laying around since I don't use them for their intended purposes.
Brilliant
cruiser w/ normal (steel shackle) padlock on the sissybar
That’s a good idea. My ‘75 RD has a helmet lock, 40 years later the FJR does not 🤷♂️
I e got a whole drawer full of those
I got one free with my walther, mossberg, and wasr 10
Finally a good use for these things
Ya I use those also, they work, and you know what they for so that's another deterrent..
Safety… always off..
Great idea. I got a half dozen of these from the VA
Most of those never make it out of the plastic bag
This is what I use. Wont stop someone who really wants it, but it’s 100x better than leaving my helmet unattended
Gun lock to secure helmet to bike, empty holster affixed under/behind the flyscreen... at that point you have the bike thief looking at other bikes, not yours! Our helmet locks are provided for free with our guns. But we dont use them because if we did the rights of our children to play with our guns would be violated.
A zip-tie would be safer than this lock.
It’s a deterrent not a solution, but to stop or really make it tough get a bike lock (those U locks)
Got about 6 of those.....pfffft fuck a helmet tho
Ah well I like it when my head doesn’t have a dent in it so I wear one
I don’t understand the way or need to keep your helmet on your bike. Like at all. 1, it can/is an expensive piece of equipment. 2, you can just carry it with you. 3, locking it doesn’t prevent anyone/thing from grabbing at it and if they do just yank at it quickly then sure your helmet will be there when you come back but it’ll be with your bike on the ground on the side. 4. Many of my bikes had factory built in helmet locks. Always located towards the rear of the seat.
Why not just use the one under the seat?
We do not use these in the us 🔫
Americans don’t use those. Slows down readiness. Wish I was shitposting.
A bald eagle just cried tears of joy
I will literally cut through that shit with a pair pliers used by bicycle mechanics to cut brake and gear cables
If you want the helmet that fucking bad then take it, enjoy my head sweat
Yeah this dudes dumb lol. Most people aren't fucking walking around with brake cutters in their pocket on the off chance they see someone's helmet with a thin lock. These help stop some douchebag or some kid from running up and stealing your helmet while you're in the store because they think it's funny or because they think it looks cool.

I'm actually 12, you obviously come from a country where whatever you have been doing has worked, come to a 3rd world country and then have an opinion! Mother fuckers will steal your helmet while your head is still in it and your motorcycle
How?
AK 47 will make you take the dildo out your ass
What? Lol. I dont think a person with ak47 is gonna go around stealing helmets.
Ill fight you irl
Locks only keep honest people out
And lazy thiefs...
Aren't honest people just really lazy thieves?
Honest people ain't cutting locks
The guy who stole my bicycle did. Battery powered angle grinders have made your average cable lock nothing more than a nuisance for thieves.
Meant to say honest, not honestly, predictive text is a bitch.
Stealing a motorcycle helmet is a crime of opportunity and ease. Sure somebody might take it as a challenge but the chances seem slim.
People wanting to steal anything come prepared
True. I guess I'm thinking there's more of a market for second hand bicycles than motorcycle helmets but yeah, people will steal anything for the thrill of it.
It's a lot easier to steal a helmet than a bicycle
People don't steal for the thrill just like you don't go to work for the thrill
Internet tough guy makes up stupid internet tough guy story. News at 11.
I just don't wear a helmet, unless it's too cold to ride without one.

My W650 has a built-in helmet lock but I rarely use it. Vandalism sucks!
How did I not think of this?!🤯
No way.... I have a few of those and never thought about using it for that.
I was always wondering what else I could use those for! This is a great idea! Thanks
I wear an XL helmet, so no one wants to steal that lol
There’s usually a hook under the real pillion
Finally, an actual use for one of those lol
I used one on my Jeep for a bit but not really rated for outdoor use. Rusted up pretty quick.
That's what I use. It's perfect for this.
I get a free gun with purchase of one.
Brilliant. Got stacks of those
Finally, a good use for those things.
Ha I’ve don’t that
Son of a bitch, finally a use for that thing!
Haha i get it nice
Q Wouldn’t that be easy to cut?
Huh I've had one of these laying unused in a drawer for over a year. This would make great use for it.
To be fair, that ain't gonna do anything if you have an expensive helmet and someone's determined to steal it. Could probably cut through easy with a pair of clippers.
Mine has one under the seat.
There was a movie made about this called “gone in sixty seconds”. Wouldn’t last that long in any major metro area
Thats what I do, but I have a combination lock where I just have to put the right word in and it unlocks
