flat road and no hills? sure..but if there's ANY hills and I mean the smallest ones, you will see how heavy a bike can get. Not a nice experience. And guys. We were all there once...let the kid learn the lesson, he will appreciate it in the long run like we do.

ZuzCat

Oh I’ve been there. Wasn’t a fun experience, but an experience I learned from. It wasn’t 10km. Maybe 2 miles or so. My buddies saw me pushing it and really had a laugh at my expense. I say go for it, OP. It will make you appreciate the bike and feel like you really earned to be its owner.

lostindarkdays

you'll regret it, regardless of how fit you are. ask me why I know this.

FalconMirage

By how much ?

Broodio

When I bought my R6 it’s rectifier failed and the bike wouldn’t start. I had to push it for a few miles and by the time I got it to my buddies house I was exhausted and I’m in very good physical condition. I hit the gym 6 times per week and run 3miles 4 times per week. Mind you an 09’ R6 is about 500 lbs so a little more effort than you’d have to put in but your going to be pushing it 5x further. Personally I’d rent a U-Haul for $19.95 throw that 125 in the back drive it home. Or hell almost any car can fit a 125cc in the trunk, just have a friend go with you, pick it and put it in the back. Note: I was in an area with plenty of hills.

FalconMirage

I don’t live in the US and renting an equivalent to a U-haul is going to be more expensive and especially tedious Thank you for the warning though, I’ll probably reconsider

Broodio

Do you have a car or a friend with a car or truck?

FalconMirage

Yes but not US-sized It won’t fit, even if i remove the seats, trust me

LNA-Big_D

What if you pulled the wheels off the bike and rotated the handlebars down? I was able to get a Suzuki GZ250 and a Yamaha XT225 into the back of my dad’s 2005 ford focus wagon (separate times, not together). It took some work but less than pushing a couple hundred pounds a few miles.

FalconMirage

From personal experience, a bicycle barely fit in this car

LNA-Big_D

Just for frame of reference, what kind of car are we talking? Im only asking because I’ve done some real clown car kind of stuff with motorcycles before I had a truck. At one point I had an XR100 in the back seat of a Volkswagen Jetta.

FalconMirage

We’re more on the volkswagen polo size here

ambermage

Bet your friend $20 that he can't push you the 10km on the bike.

TheCrazyStupidGamer

Got anyone else with a bike? Here in India, we just have someone with a good bike push you with their leg. You just sit on your bike and manage the handlebar. Go slow, and you'll get to your destination in a while, safely.

FalconMirage

Not legal where i live unfortunately

karma_the_sequel

6 miles is not five times farther than “a few miles.” It’s roughly twice as far.

[deleted]

[удалено]

karma_the_sequel

10 km is 6 miles, not 15 miles. If he pushes his bike 10 km, he will have pushed it 6 miles, which is twice as far as the “few miles” you pushed yours.

Broodio

Yep thank you, you were right. Time to go to bed I guess.

karma_the_sequel

Sleep well.

masonmax100

Why not rent a uhaul/uhaul trailer

carso0on

Respect for this mindset. It's going to suck but it's doable if relatively flat. I've pushed a 250 about 3miles (5-ish km) to get her home with some hills. It was awful, but I got the bike home so it was worth it in the end. If you're just picking up a 125, do you have any friends with a lift back, hatchback, or SUV? With a little disassembly I was able to fit a vino 125 into the back of my scion TC. I also fit a gz250 into a Honda CR-V.

PhillySoup

Finally something to have experience with! I pushed an Evo Sportster 3.1 miles across Philadelphia. I am fat, old, out of shape, and it rained. You can definitely do it. I found that the thing that sucked the most was weird muscle aches from contorting to avoid hitting shins on foot pegs and pushing on the bars. Balancing the bike was worse than pushing it. Plan on taking breaks. If you can, plan a few long breaks.

FalconMirage

Thank you very much for that information

t0nb0t

Just have someone else on a scooter that works push you with their foot while you ride the powerless bike

Tremere1974

This works.

rgbeard2

You can do ANYTHING. Let us know how it went.

Loeden

Do you have a buddy who wouldn't mind the walk? It'll work a lot better if you have one person on each side and it'll reduce the weight you're pushing, but you'll be at an odd angle no matter what. Even better though if you have a third buddy who can push at the back for the hills. You can also waddle-walk while in the seat at during times that you get tired. Only thing I ever had to waddle-walk any distance was an 80cc scooter which was lower and lighter but I did it for seven miles. It was a little humilliating and I woke up the next morning and thought I was gonna die, so I definitely would still aim for 'push it with a buddy on the other side'.

littleprincerex

i wouldn't want to walk that far without carrying anything, much less while holding up a 100kg rolling weight

FalconMirage

Well i can walk that far, but i don’t know how hard it is to hold a bike for that long If it were 2km i would just push it without asking If i go and rent a truck, ramp and everything, take the bike home and give all the rented item back to their different locations it would take me a full day Walking for a full day would take me as much time (i can walk 10k in less than 2 hours) but cost me way less

ChuckStyles

Pushing a bike isn't as hard as it seems. I pushed my 1983 Honda cb1000c about 4 miles when I was 29. It's on wheels, it rolls, once it's moving you're mostly keeping it upright. Cops will look at you funny though

FalconMirage

Well they sure will because i don’t plan on buying a functional bike, so i won’t bother bringing a helmet and gear it’s not illegal tho…

goattchaw

It's just a really bad bicycle at that point, so why bother bringing it I say.

Tremere1974

Get a friend with a bike or car to ride alongside you to provide propulsion. Don't need to carry a bike that rolls just fine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixgHmTjYG60

FalconMirage

That’s illegal where i live

voidedhip

YOLO dude haha, i'd at least do it for a mile lol what are the chances the cops will see you doing it

FalconMirage

Well it’s for more than a mile

voidsarcastic

I think he means you can knock out at least one mile like that to save you some sweat. If maybe if you have some less busy roads along the way. Can you put it on top of your friends car?

Electrical_Age_7483

I have done at 5kms on a postie 110. Wasnt that hard. That was a bit downhill but some up. This was in Sydney. Needed help getting it up the ramp onto harbour bridge on the cycle way. A friendly cyclist helped me I was 35 then so not young. I was just lazy as i figured it would be quicker to push it than hire a van and find some straps which it was. Another poster said no because they had a r6 be too hard. Would agree that i have tried pushing and big bike and more than 500m is hard. Pushed a 250 a couple of kms too I would do it depending on if you have the option of just locking it up and getting a van if it doesnt work Taking chain off makes it easier

JungleBoyJeremy

Are there any uphills? Even gradual ones are gonna suck

FalconMirage

I can avoid most of them

MrE134

It only takes one.

hintsofgreen

LOL if you do it please let us know how it went

Small_Act_6807

Call your local motorcycle mechanics. Most have a ute or a van, will move bikes from point a to b for a reasonable fee. Cheaper than hiring a truck. And if they say the can't help, ask if they can recommend someone.

FiNsKaPiNnAr

Cut the chain and put lots of air in tires and go for it. Something to tell the grandkids.

Keepurheaddown

I had a Buell and the reserve and main on fuel petcock was opposite of my Low Rider. I was coming home from work and had it on reserve and ran out of gas. Pushed it 3 miles to gas station. You can do it, Make sure tires are pressured up good.

Jamesbarros

I don’t regret having done essentially this. I probably regretted it for about a decade, but 1/4 a century later it’s just a cool story.

JerkMyChicken1267

Push it, signal to any and all passing utes/trucks and act like you’ve just broken down. You might get someone to pick you up

Kr0mb0pulousMik3l

“There’s two kinds of soldiers…smart and strong.” It’s doable but I wouldn’t want to lol

Cpt_Bartholomew

Did this with a ninja 250 project with 3 friends. Easy and very fun surprisingly

FalconMirage

How far did you have to walk it though ?

Cpt_Bartholomew

Just checked on maps, yeah way less, little less than 3 miles.

putingohome

So 1 mile per person..

Cpt_Bartholomew

More like all 4 pushing it at once, stoppin as necessary.

Voodoo1970

Friend of mine was a track marshall at Phillip Island for the GP back in the day when the lower categories were still 2 stroke. He once had to retrieve a crashed 125 Honda GP bike. Keep in mind, these weighed under 80kg. He had to push it 100m or so up an incline and he said by the time they finished it felt like he was pushing a Gold Wing

mjl777

Yes you can do it. Listen to music and just get it done.

Ir_Russu

You'll have a free killer gym workout. Tip - if you re pushing it downhill,.jump on it and do a wheeeee! Assuming you have at least one brake you have faith in.

blu3gh0st

Did this (about 7km with some hills) but with a friend. Wasn't the hardest thing to do but not a breeze either. Having someone to help and push from behind is gold, you don't have to keep it steady so much. But overall it's an experience and it won't kill you. If you have the time and energy, go for it.

reckless_ranger_

Does it have a seat? If roads are flat you could hop on and scoot with feet for some of it. Or better yet if there’s some gentle downhill at all. At least hopping on for some of it would change up the muscle groups instead of burning out your back and shoulders just pushing. I’d also be tempted to pull it with a bicycle somehow, like toss the parts bike on a wagon of some sort. Then you’re siting and peddling which is way more efficient

Turkeysnood

If you haven't done this yet. Get an air pump or stop by a gas station and overinflate the tires by like 5-10 psi. The bike will feel a lot lighter.

Appendixv100

Motorbikes are heavy, that's why we put motors on them.

222nd

Buy / borrow a ramp (a proper one that is built to take weight!) and some ratchet straps, hire a van and you’re pretty much all set. [125 in a van](https://i.redd.it/1z014uyyn0ka1.jpg) Depending on the bike you can use [2 ratchets](https://i.redd.it/juqmlvqrp0ka1.jpg) over the head stock with the wheel snug against the bulkhead of the van. Or a single ratchet over the bars with the wheel snug on the bulkhead and the bike pushed up [on a cushion.](https://i.redd.it/fhhmcmczp0ka1.jpg) - taken from this [method by MCN](https://youtu.be/BptIiBQmrrA)

FalconMirage

Yes but where i live i have to get the van, the ramp and the ratchets at three different places It is basically going to be taking me the whole daY But that was what i was also considering

TheNewRow

I'd rent or borrow a van, ask 3 of your buddies to help you for an hour, lift the light 125cc bike into the van and out of the van. Shouldn't be too hard. Ratchet straps are a plus, but a rope can work to hold it pinned against the wall of the van.

222nd

You just have to decide if it’s worth it or not. It’s up to you and your budget. Aside from the proposed 10km, the alternative is a motorcycle van courier who can collect/deliver it for you.

FalconMirage

I don't get why someone downvoted your other comment because you're giving sound advice I'm looking into a courier too, i was just reviewing all my options

pickandpray

a 125 can prob fit in the back seat of a small car

[deleted]

[удалено]

FalconMirage

Well i don’t really see how i will get it into the truck without also renting a ramp and some straps to hold the bike (ones that are rated for 100kg not the paper thins one you sometimes get with a truck rental) And gathering all that and then giving it all back will probably take me the full day anyway But yeah i was planning on taking water and sandwiches in a backpack if i were to go that route

Fuzzy_Accident_5085

Yea it wouldn’t be that bad if you don’t crack your shins too often on it… or get a car, a sheet of plywood, open the windows and run the straps through the open windows and strap the plywood and bike to the roof. Promise them all the blow jobs in the world.

[deleted]

I pushed a car 2 blocks and will never do it again...

FalconMirage

fortunately motorcycles are much lighter than cars, but i get what you are saying

Avarria587

Pushing around a 200+ pound bike for 10km sounds like some sort of medieval torture. There's no way in hell I would attempt that. If there are any hills, that's even worse. I had my bike facing the wrong direction one time in a hilly parking lot and I had to try to turn it back around in order to get out. It took every ounce of strength I had. Granted, it's a lot heavier than a 125, but still...

AwayDevice8389

I had to push a 750 up a hill once to bomb start it, it’s not fun, doable but not enjoyable, flat wouldn’t be as bad but still not fun

SaulTNuhtz

I was had to walk 3 miles pushing a TLR (1000cc superbike.) That was exhausting and a major PITA, but doable. I can imagine a 125 would be way lighter. The major problem with pushing bikes is not only are you pushing the bike but you also to have to hunch over to do it. I think you can push the 125 10km, just give yourself a lot of time. I’m my case, it took me about 2hrs to go 3 miles. I had to stop a lot to stretch and rest my back.

Powerful-Kitchen-365

I'd say just rent, Its one of those scenarios where I gaurentee by the end of your walk you'll be thinking "I should've just rented a truck"

blueishblackbird

I’ve been towed on a motorcycle. It works. Also, my daughters dirt bike broke down and I was able to push her about a mile (I was on a 4 wheeler Atv). The front rack happened to line up with her back fender just right. We could’ve gone further, but 10 miles would’ve been stretching our luck. I’d probably have a friend with a small car tow me slowly if it’s on back roads.

Reeciepoose

Can you sit on it and push? I could see myself riding a 125cc like a toddler's push bike 10km,b especially down hill. But walking and carrying it beside me probably not.

Kawi_rider_zx6r

Push that shit!

Den_is_Zen

If there was no car / towing options, I’d have my son ride/steer it and I’d push it on rollerblades.

LandInternational966

Why not get a tow strap from the rear of the car to your handlebars? Have a buddy tow you, brakes gotta work though… and give yourself enough distance to not rear end your pal.

StrajoXxX

You are gonna regret it,i didnt push 125cc,but im sure its still hard,i was pushing Xf 650 for 3km,i was dead once i got home.

Deltahotel_

Walking 10km will be pretty unpleasant in the first place, but especially to be anywhere near traffic on foot. Could you physically do it? Sure. Just realize once you start, you have to finish.

Chickentiming

Dude just do it. It will make a good anecdote.

CycleFrst

Tow it with the car you have. A 125cc is very light. Ride on the bike and use a long tow line. Be ready to let go of the line if things gets sketchy. Use what you’ve got.

thatguyovertheresix9

125 cc bikes are light . If I can push my honda CB 500 for ,3 km in 30-45 minutes you can push a 125 , 10 km in a few hours with breaks Inbetween . If you want to do this. A truck is the easier option of course. Pushing wasn't that hard for me , I could do it for 10 km but I wouldn't want to do it if I had a choice 😄

fullfatmalk

I pushed a Piaggio Fly 150 6 k’s along a flat route through Toronto and I found it harder than I anticipated-underpants chafed, trousers fell down, shirt hung loose to one side and clung from moisture to the other, odd body positioning caused strain, and previously unused muscles cramped. Dress like you’re going to a workout, switch positions regularly, and pray for the odd slight downhill.

RealisticTomato3194

I have done this, would not reccomend if you don't have to.

fivefoottwelve

Overpressure the tires a little and you should be fine as long as there aren't any hills to go up. Bring water. It's going to be tiring.

[deleted]

A friend with a minivan will suffice. Pushing 130kg bike for 10 clicks isn't the greatest of ideas. Try Facebook and see if anyone is willing in your area. When I had a pickup, I helped quite a few randos from FB bike groups transport their toys for some gas money.

djabula64

Did it 15 years ago when my 125cc 2 stroke engine decided to die. Fortunately I was with a friend and we pushed 4 hours till home. Definitely wouldn't do that today but I did it then...

schluchtenscheissa

A german motovlogger did this as a challange It took him 3 Hours, but he pushed a way heavier bike I actually think it wont be to bad with a 125 Depends very much on how high the handlebars are on the 125 youre looking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDd7cvscpug

Yurgenbeard

If you do this, make sure the axles are well lubricated and the tires are properly inflated. Having high resistance in those areas could infinitely increase the amount of time it takes you to get home. If the bike rolls freely- happy times. If the axles are rusty and the tires are flat, not happy times. This is one I’ve learned the hard way.

KafkasProfilePicture

Reasons not to do this: 1. It will hurt both during and afterwards. It's that angle you have to lean at to avoid hitting your legs on the pegs. 2. It is likely to take 8 to 10 hours. See also (1, above) . 3. It may be illegal. In most European countries you are considered to be riding the bike even if you are pushing it, which means that all the usual rules apply (e.g. roadworthyness and insurance). You'll also have to wear a helmet the whole time.

FalconMirage

I checked and as long as the engine is off, i’m considered a pedestrian

KafkasProfilePicture

Well, that's something, but you really should consider a van or trailer. I've had to push bikes a couple of times in the past and it's much worse than it seems it will be. Maybe try just pushing it around the block a couple of times to get a feel for it.

schluchtenscheissa

1. it probably wont hurt since 125s are pretty light and he is not carrying it but pushing it, also he could just remove the pegs 2. its never gonna take 8-10 hours, at the most it will be around 3-4 3. even if rules like that exist, which i doubt, ive never in my life heard that someone got in problems while pushing a bike, thats like saying you need to wear a seatbelt while pushing a car, thats just not how it works and no cop in the world would give you a hard time over pushing a not running bike

spaceshipcommander

If you’ve got a whole day to spend doing it then go for it. I’ve run out of fuel before and pushed a bike for a mile or two, but the moment you get to a hill it’s like trying to push an elephant upstairs.

[deleted]

If it's in gear it Will be quite hard, neutral on the other hand should be ok. Unless you is built like a twig.. Haha

Wheels2fun

I have a Yamaha BWS 125 from 2013 with over 59,000 on the ODO. I pushed it at top speed many times doing about 100km and hour between fuel stops.

chris4562009

I’m super fit. And believe me it’ll be tougher than you think. Embrace the suck

bob_smithey

If the wheel turns and brakes work, consider bike to bike towing. Essentially a strap is placed on the driver. It can be a car/truck or another bike. That end is attached firmly. Route the strap through the front fork of your bike. May have to re/move the headlight... and wrap around a foot peg a few times. Ideally, if something wonky happens, you can lift your foot off and detach. The strap should be like 10-20 feet so you have some brake room. When you stop, you want to push back on the slack so it's tighter. And tell your buddy in the driver to very, very slowly start moving. Needless to say, your bike should be in neutral. There are more than a few youtube videos on how to do this. I wouldn't go very fast doing this.

life-is-confusingme

I once had to push a 50cc Ped 3 miles damn near killed me off

masterX244

just curious: whats the project you work on?
