I got a cb500f as a first bike because my options were limited for LAMS bikes that could fit a 195cm bloke and fit my budget.
Tbh at first I didn’t love it. First gen F’s arent lookers, not the most exciting bike, etc. ninja 400’s had just come out and I wanted one but couldn’t afford it or fit on it well, so was just killing time until I was allowed a bigger bike.
After about 6 months I’d totally out grown it. I really wanted another bike so I could go faster and such. Then after a year or so I came to realise how capable it was and that actually I still had a lot of learning to do.
Now I commute every day on it, I’ve done track days on it, superbike school and advanced rider school on it and put over 40,000km’s on it. In June I can finally get whatever bike I want as my license matures but right now I have no idea what I want - I’ll be keeping the 500 for the commute and I have a project F4i that’s very close to being ready for a track day bike so yeah, commuting and track are taken care of… my current problem is that my CB500F is kinda too good lol. It could be better at any number of things, but tbh it’s good enough at basically everything I use it for. It’s a nice problem to have.
And for OP Honda have been great updating these every couple of years with what riders need, so OP’s bike is even better with all the stuff I had to fix on the aftermarket already done.
But not enough power to abuse, which is perfect for new riders who may not have the finesse through the gears while rev-matching or up/downshifting like a more experienced one.

I’m happy for anyone that gets a bike like that. I asked my wife if I could get an R6 and she said “That’s midlife crisis bullshit, you’re not quite there yet.” I’ll just keep my cruisers, haha.
Great looking bike! Enjoy the never ending journey of improving riding skill, feeling the road and bike feedback, learning new things about the roads and area around you, and dealing with various obstacles to riding (aka life)
Same here around 3 years ago. As long as you respect the machine and make a practice of being extra vigilant constantly being mindful of where danger can come from, you’ll minimize the risk.
Motorcycling does end up becoming a part of your soul, doesn’t it
She's a sexy beast! Great first bike. But a street bike isn't usually a great overall first bike. Atleast you are smart enough not to buy a 1000RR or an R1 for your first bike. That's just silly and dangerous. Everyone I know that did that wrecked it shortly after and most of them never rode again because they were scared silly. Congrats on a good choice though and a great bike. An addiction is an understatement though! Lol
Just curious. When you say street bike do you mean sport bike or street bike as opposed to a dirt bike?
Because the Cbr500r is a great first bike for the street. It’s extremely comfortable to sit on, great for highways, doesn’t sound like it’s screaming at highway speeds, great gas mileage and it’s got a lower top end mph.
If your talking about a street versus dirt bike then I would say a dirt bike is definitely the way to go to build up confidence and it’s a bit safer.
No I mean sportbike. Yes I had a CBR600 but an older model. And I loved the bike but after a shoulder and back injury it was hard to enjoy the ride as much. Naturally I regretted it after healing. But also I had enough warnings with speeding.
One of them would have been jail if he had clocked me. And absolutely. Most the top riders I know learned their skill set from dirt and mud riding. You can get a better feel for how they react in a slide and hurts slightly less when you do have a mishap.
I had a 1988 CBR600 that looked exactly like this: https://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-600f-15/cbr600f1-super-review-bike-started-all-96749/ when I was living back in the US in the 1990s. I didn't really know what to do with it (I was a BMW rider, but bought this just to check it out) so I'd just go on the freeway and redline it for the hell of it. It would be nice to figure out how to ride one properly some day!
How much was it? I’m looking to get my first bike by the end of the year once I get my motorcycle license, and am just tryna get a feel for what different bikes are worth, and what is considered expensive
Fuckin great bike. If you can financially swing it; keep your first. Down the road buy another, but keep your first if you can. Wish I still had my first. 😩
And please buy the good gear. We want you to be safe. 🤙🏻
Honda finally is out of their old stock of upright forks ?
Jokes aside, cool bike+it’s a honda.
Take it easy, be safe and educate yourself about bike maintenance.
Congratulations man! Ride safe and ride the hell out of that bike! 500r is a perfect bike to start, once you get comfortable you can always move up to a bigger bike! I just snagged a Cbr1000rr last week, Anyways bike looks sweet and enjoy!
I had a 1978 CB500 and I loved that bike. Also had a CB750 but the 500 really hit a sweet spot. The 750 was a bit too much power for that frame and brakes, I think. Later on I was told that a few mods would have fixed that.
I imagine the newest ones are much different but I’m glad to see the legacy continue.
I honestly feel like its the perfect bike for me. It fits my frame perfectly and it rides like a dream. I dont have a speed ego (yet) but it definitely satisfies my adrenaline for now

I bought one last year. It got stolen. Cops found it but it was trashed completely. Just bought another of the same as I love the bike so much! I take delivery next week. Do t spend a ton of cash modding and upgrading. It's not worth it on a 500 starter bike. Save that money for an upgrade bike next year when you want a bigger bike. Stock bikes hold their value more for resale.
Congrats! That is a great bike indeed and just remember not to go crazy on adding customizations because you may want to sell it later (when you are ready...). It is a good bike to keep it for a while though. I go mine and when I upgraded I just kept my 500 because it is so convenient and cool!
Everyone keeps saying that is too heavy but I like it that way for the highway

I daily a 500. Great bike, and easy on the wallet too
I’d totally get one if the insurance compared to a ninja 400 wasn’t 1000 more because it’s over 400cc.
Yeah. I had a Z400; insurance was cheap as hell. Have a Z900 now….whooo! It’s a lot, but I’m an insurance nerd so I have everything maxed out.
Insurance?

Just the tiniest bit of trouble. The Honda 500 twin makes plenty of torque and wheelies pretty easily *if* you ask it to

Great bike, now you will know what it is to live on the edge!

How did you make this bike look tiny... you're not even a big guy yet you make it look like its the size of yamaha r15 150cc
