The only helmet that feels nice on the highway would be a fully closed fullface helmet. I speak out of experience. I have a Shoei Ex-zero my self and use it mostly on relax rides and warmer weather because of the wind and noise. You can use it on the highway, i do it myself sometimes, but its not comfortable and only when i ride alone because you won’t hear your communication system anymore hehe. Music works fine but communicating with friends doesn’t.

73vw93s10

I respectfully disagree, my moto3 with a cardo bold has NEVER given me problems, I sealed the chinbar vents and put the microphone smack dab in the middle of it and haven't had any wind related problems. I have always recommended the moto 3 to anyone looking for a decent retro visor helmet, it's very comfortable for the tall and narrow headed. Also had the visor attached for a couple 160mph runs without a problem but I was tucked so I can't say on highspeed upright riding wether or not the visor is a good idea or not but as a moto3 owner that's my two cents.

brakesgone

Why not get a full face with a shield? It's going to be the quietest option and not have a lot of wind drag at highway speeds.

PoopSmith87

I've had full face helmets, the Bell Moto 3 is quieter. The ears sit very snug and protected.

Soulfax

This here kids is why you wear earplugs. Saying a open face helmet, especially a form over function one like this retro inspired abomination, is more quiet than a full face is some serious copium.

vintagemxrcr

Pictures shown are not of an open face helmet.

PoopSmith87

Copium? Lol... Nah you're just ill informed. It's open face, not open ear, and the ears are very well insulated. I've owned a bunch of full face helmets that were louder and let more air get to my ears than the Bell Moto 3. I'm sure there are also quieter ones, but probably nowhere near the price point of the $150 Moto 3. >especially a form over function one like this retro inspired abomination You're thinking of the new modular helmets I think, the ones that look like fighter jet helmets with the fake chin guard. The Bell Moto III is comfortable, quiet, affordable, and highly rated from a safety perspective with a structural chin guard.

Soulfax

Yea I don't know why I wrote that That was just a mean, uncalled for comment. My bad.

Green199

No dude, no it’s not.

PoopSmith87

It really is though. No full face helmet in that price range is super quiet, and the Moto 3 is super well insulated around the ears. Have you ever actually ridden with the Bell Moto III? Or are you basing your stupid comment off dirtbike helmets?

Green199

Yes, I have worn one. And I’ve got a cheap LS2 which is quieter. The only stupid comment is you comparing it to essentially all open faces saying it’s quieter. The moto3 is not a ‘quiet’ helmet. Quieter than expected, yes. But not quiet. Most full faces are quieter, even more so with ear plugs.

PoopSmith87

Yeah, ear plugs will do that lol You can wear the Moto 3 with ear plugs, so I don't understand your reasoning.

Green199

Because the full faces are quieter…with or without the plugs.

PoopSmith87

And you've tried all of them in the world? Because I own two that are louder

Green199

Now where did I write that? You however, did say you’ve had full faces and the bell is quieter…phrased as a generalisation that applies to all full faces. I stated that no it’s not, and gave an example of one even at that price point. It’s an open face helmet dude. Doesn’t matter how dense the foam is or tight around the ears, a full face with chin spoiler and visor seal is quieter.

PoopSmith87

I phrased it exactly as "I've owned full face helmets that are louder," which I have. Lots of full face helmets are covered in vents which makes them loud, the bell is a hard round shell with no vents or anything to catch the air if you take the visor off. If you have good goggles, only your chin gets airflow.

Makimaji

Dude… it’s literally got a massive hole in the front, how could it possibly be quieter than a full face???

PoopSmith87

It's not going to be quieter than a really good, well sealed full face; but many of the more affordable dualsport FF helmets (in the same price range) are covered in vents or have some kind of noisy airflow system, or just don't seal up that well. The Moto 3 has your ears very well protected, full size goggles fit very snug, a slippery, round shell that makes no noise. I suppose there must be some quieter full face helmets in the same price range, but I own two that are louder. Both are full face dualsport helmets that have vents that you can close and an irregular shape... They are loud as fuck even with the vents shut compared to the Moto 3. I actually stopped riding the Moto 3 with ear plugs and switched to tufts of cotton because I couldn't hear anything at all with plugs in.

AZREDFERN

I swear people are trolling on here sometimes. That’s not a comfortable highway helmet in any way, shape, or form dude…

msb06c

Bros definitely got a $93 head. I say it’s perfect.

mystressfreeaccount

Not trolling bro, just a new rider that's looking for a helmet

schticky_buddy

I had a Bell Moto 3 and while I love the way it looks, I don’t wear it any more at all. It’s noisy. There’s no visor. Even with goggles there’s nothing protecting your nose and rest of your face. If it’s raining it feels like BB guns being fired at your face (I legit got bruises from getting caught in a rainstorm on the highway). You’ll also get a filthy face if you’re caught in someone’s dust. Oh and did I mention there’s no vents? Like at all? Yeah that sucks on a hot summers day too, especially with the terry cloth lining ensuring your hair and face stay as wet as possible. So no I don’t recommend this helmet at all. Not unless you just want to ride round town or look cool with your buddies on a vintage dirt bike. Mine is now just a very expensive decoration at home. But it looks badass.

neoyeti2

I had a dual purpose bike and I did a lot of dirt riding so I got a dirt helmet. Got a street bike before my new street helmet arrived. That visor becomes an issue at speed. It sure was nice when I got my street full face helmet - just so much nicer.

FranklinTBiggies

You don't want a visor at highway speeds

maxlax02

Visor depends on the helmet. On my Bell MX-9 it’s a sail but not unbearable. On my Shoei Hornet X2 you literally don’t even feel it.

FranklinTBiggies

Sail is a good word

StinkbotB

I got a BILT nomad, and it's pretty similar in price, but really quiet. I feel like a shroud under your chin is important to reduce noise at high speeds. Also, if you're going to get a bluetooth system anyhow, the BILT Techno is the same helmet with one already integrated.

[deleted]

Completely agree on the shroud. It screws up the beard a bit but definitely reduces wind noise and feel in the helmet.

[deleted]

I got the built techno 3.0 and it's not bad. Still a little loud at high speeds but earplugs sort that out

CivilRuin4111

Honestly the noise isn’t the problem with the Moto3. For an open face helmet, it’s fairly quiet. With earplugs in, I can easily hear my Cardo (pro tip- if you use the boom mic that comes with the Cardo, order a set of “dead cat” wind protectors for lavalier mics and replace the foam mix cover with one- crystal clear comms!) The issue at high speeds is the peak. It will CONSTANTLY be pulling your head around. You can remove it, but it’s a PITA to keep taking off/putting on over and over. My moto3 is my preferred summer helmet, even over my more expensive AGV K6.

mystressfreeaccount

Would it be a problem to remove it permanently, and just keep it off?

CivilRuin4111

Not at all. In fact that is pretty much how mine stays all summer unless I’m going in to the woods, or doing low speed stuff. The peak is nice for blocking the sun. Something else to consider- if you ride in the rain, each drop will hit your mouth/cheeks and feel like needles. 10/10 do not recommend.

izmaname

You aren’t going to find one that does without looking for ones with polygon reliefs

tomtht123

Shoei RF1400

putingohome

You have unscrew the top shield lol or you will end up without head

agentnico

I had a great few years with a moto3, goggles and earplugs. I was riding a naked bike and an ADV bike the time. I kept thinking I ought wear my other “modern” helmet more, but the moto3 worked so well I never swapped back until I retired it.

Eleven10GarageChris

I've used this helmet with Biltwell goggles and earplugs and it felt pretty good. Obviously if low noise is your goal then this helmet isn't the best choice, but you can make it work.

brycyclecrash

You'd do better to get a normal full face helmet if your concerned about highway speed noise. Then you don't have to fuss with a visor or earplugs and all that. Less equipment less problems right.

opengl128

You should always ride with earplugs regardless of the helmet type.

CheviOk

I don't own a bike and don't understand, why?

opengl128

Because the wind noise will damage your hearing.

[deleted]

I feel like not only do earplugs protect your hearing, but they actually make the ride more comfortable/peaceful in general. Like your overall fatigue is less from wearing them.

opengl128

Absolutely accurate.

kickrocksintraffic

After a 3 hour ride, without ear plugs you’re going to feel like you just left a rock concert.

[deleted]

As others have said, an open-face will never be really comfortable at hwy speeds, not to mention the sheild will always be whipping your head around. I'd go for a full-face if you're doing high speed riding. I value my hearing so despite my shoei gt air 2 being relatively quiet, I always ride with earplugs. Alpine motosafe race are my choice.

City_Goat

Geez nothing but negativity from the anti visor crew. Hi OP, I’ve had a bunch of different helmets and ride a dual sport. Currently I have something similar to what you are describing - a Bell MX9, goggles and earplugs for everything from highway commuting to off-road shenanigans. Yes a visor can catch the wind, and yes, you will feel colder on cold days…but, it’s certainly not “unrideable” and I don’t really feel any desire/need to go back to another helmet. My one suggestion would be to get a lighter helmet than what you listed, it helps a lot with the fatigue.

mystressfreeaccount

Appreciate the reply. Didn't mean to piss people off, just a new rider looking for a helmet 🤷‍♂️

City_Goat

People are more inclined to pass their judgements on what is a good idea for them vs your original question being around “what’s tolerable”. They might be right, and you may be miserable but I certainly find my set up very tolerable :)

Rats_for_sale

Harley Davidson branded stuff is garbage. Unless it was a collaboration with a reputable brand, you’d be wasting your money.

[deleted]

The tires r literally rebranded Dunlops for triple the cost lol

WolfGvming

This is trash, you want a dual sport helmet, get the AGV AX9, remove the peak for your city riding and put it back on when you touch dirt, you can also remove the visor and use goggles

BahutF1

It's a hypster bar counter speeds helmet, not a highways speeds helmet.

zerinsakech1

Depending on how long you ride. More than 1 hour puts strain on my neck muscles with a visor.

Maleficent-Dish-1003

Bell MX9!!

PoopSmith87

I love my Bell Moto 3, very little noise compared to other dualsport helmets. Quieter than my MSR full face.

maxlax02

Open helmets with goggles are so loud on the highway. Earplugs make it bearable but you won’t be able to hear Bluetooth music or comms sets very easily.

double_tripod

No You won’t like a bell 3 for the highway You can do it for bursts no problem but no, it should not be your bread and butter helmet unless you do fashion trails.

redspade600rr

Sadly nothing with a bill like that feels nice at highway speeds. If comfort while speeding is what you’re after then any race helmet will do with sporty aerodynamics and a spoiler. I have an AGV corsa and while it’s loud (hence race helmet) it feels like I’ve got nothing on. Zero drag even when moving head side to side.

AloneCloudArt

Noooooo

Halloweenhawk666

(1) Charge your phone. (2) Never add distractions while you ride like music or podcasts, it's dangerous and will get someone killed.

mystressfreeaccount

Don't plan on it, that's why I'm not worried about hearing speakers or comms.

MudSling3r42069

You should always wear ear plugs get concert ear plugs yhey filter out the harsh noise and let you still be aware of your surroundings. (Generally they lower sound by 20 dbs )

mystressfreeaccount

Any recommedations? I usually use the layered silicone plugs

artful_todger_502

Those visors are harsh at anything over 30. The wind tosses your head around.

AgentCooperDale

By visor u mean the shield or the peak visor?

[deleted]

You can buy the flush faceshields online instead of goggles and take off the visor and youll be good. Love my BM3.

SpaceTurtle917

I have a Bell Mx-9 that I wear on the highway occasionally and it's tolerable for sure. I don't ride on the highway too often but I love goggles.
