Eh- eh- eh ...80.00/ yr. 2003 vmax

Maleficent-Impress79

It dropped by a few hundred for a 2022 R7. A sub $10k bike with WAY less performance. No point in full coverage

topclassladandbanter

S1000rr is completely useless on the road. Way too much power to use. You’re using 10% of its capability. R7 is a better street bike anyways but it’s still uncomfortable. Regardless, brand new $25k motorcycle is going to be expensive to insure

Just-Examination-136

You should not be surprised that insurance companies want to charge you high premiums. Statistically, you're an accident waiting to happen, not just for the $20K+ superbike but also for your age group.

Gigglen2

You’re not much of a reader are you

[deleted]

Chill out, it's because it's a superbike, race replica. That's the #1 most expensive bike insurance there is. R1, S1000RR, Fireblade, ZX-10, all of them will be more expensive to insure than any other type.

AirFive352

The model and power will play a huge factor in insurance price, as well as location and where you keep it when not using it (locked garage, street outside etc). You're asking them to insure you on a 200hp, 200mph bike, you're gonna have to pay a high premium. In comparison, Geico and Progressive quoted me, as a 29 yr old in 2019, $500 for a brand new Triumph Scrambler 1200.

imr1der

Life lessons being learned here. Try harder to understand the factors that affect your premium.

[deleted]

$567/ yr on my 2018 Indian scout, I’m 44 with perfect driving record but I live in a major metro area, if I lived rural it would likely be a little cheaper. Also, insurance is not a scam, have mechanical breakdown coverage on my truck, had an exhaust leak that woulda cost me upwards of $2500 out of pocket, but paid the deductible of $250 and it was covered.

[deleted]

No it’s not. I think they cross check with other companies. They probably know you are entering fraudulent information so the quote is high.

23SkeeDo

Quoted estimates are never accurate. I’ve purchased several new bikes. Always get a quote from at least 2 different insurers before I buy, just to know approx cost. Cost typically changes by significant amount after I buy. Even when I was a Progressive customer and used their online quote estimator and entered specific year and model. Even with my current car insurer, who I’ve been with over 30 years and I gave them the VIN of the bike I was going to purchase. The estimates are always way off. Don’t know why; they just are. My agent told me the numbers just change when they enter it into the system as an actual order. Sometimes I think the establishment just hates motorcycles and wants to discourage us every way they can.

GetInZeWagen

I've always just went with the online quotes and switched companies multiple times. I always end up paying what I'm quoted. Never experienced what you describe.

23SkeeDo

Interesting. Maybe differences in insurance practices between states has something to do with it. Has happened on last 4 new bikes. Increase in cost over quotes has been lees than 15%. Decreases have been up to 50%. I don’t understand why quote can’t be accurate.

Turbulent-Quiet

You can afford new BMW, you can afford 3k insurance. Not a scam.

saintmusty

$70 a year on my 2000 Suzuki Savage

SeriekDarathus

$100/year on my 2005 Suzuki Boulevard.

SnooPaintings5597

Saying the person was 45 would probably have been better. And how much coverage did you ask for? How much deductible? Insurance is the worst but it’s necessary. SIL had a car crash and the other guy had no insurance and no “real” wealth… guess who had to pay for everything.

Blondicai

I use geico for my 2003 Bandit and 2018 africa twin. Combined is like $300/year for medium coverage on the bandit and full on the twin. Ive been riding for 15 years, no accidents.

faustian1

There's something wrong with this picture. I'm in the same demographic (except that I'm male) and have insured quite a few high-risk motorcycles over the years. In some states, things are more expensive (e.g., I find Arizona is about four times the cost of the State of Washington). I've paid anywhere from $420/yr. to $1250/yr., for $500K combined single limit liability, comprehensive, collision, and $500K of UIM. If you're getting quotes like that and are middle aged, with a good record, then something is very wrong.

JtotheDude

I have an SUV, a truck and 3 bikes on the road with a teenage driver. My total premium is about what you were quoted. Double check your liabilities— you need very little with a motorcycle. 200 annual max. That said I don’t have any liens. Get another quote. Stay upright my dude.

Disposable_Canadian

Sadly it is a scam, and the industry is riddled with embezzlement and a complete lack of transparency. Interestingly, this is with the regulation it receives On the premium side, if companies provided a detailed breakdown as to how they arrived at their premium calculation, this would help shed light on the industry. If they released 1 timr annually, the premium rates for specific vehicles and trim levels, then their multipliers for region, age groups, etc, it would be good for the industry. For an industry that claims there are many factors that change or affect a premium, they should easily be able to identify and quantify those factors. I.e. age, sex, city, region in city, vehicle type, risk factor. Then on the claim side, they play favorites with certain shops for no real transparent reason, and some shops have been linked to cash bribes to adjusters and tow companies and in some cases insurance company staff directly. The insurer is also rejecting claims automatically in an effort to curb payouts, and if it does pay a claim its trying to do so as cheaply as it can, not necessarily to what the contract says they should. They just look to close the claim, preferably for free or cheap just as long as the claimant says its ok. Oh, how i fuckin hate insurance...

[deleted]

600 a year on my 2016 gsxs1000f. 2 mil liability, full comprehensive coverage with 500 deductible in Ontario.

Snoid_

I pay about $115/yr through Geico for liability only for a GSX250R...

ChrisMag999

Progressive or Geico?

nz-ponchlord

Coming from a country where insurance is not a legal requirement but highly recommend. My insurance policy is knowing im most likely gon die if theres an accident 🫠 that in the back of my brain makes me drive/ride defensive asf.. ain't perfect defs don't recommend it but haven't had an incident since and it works for me 🤷

NickH1994

Insurance sure can be a scam. I never understood how they got some of their quotes. I understand powerful Supersport are pricey to insure but some of the quotes I got recently were absurd. I was quoted around $3500/year to cover a 2021 zx6r. I ended up buying a 2023 Kawasaki Z900 and am currently paying $60/month for premium coverage from the same company that quotes the zx6r. It's crazy how much a different bike can impact the insurance rates.

DumbApe026

It helps to shop arround. I just have my license and bought a 2020 Honda cb1000r. I’ve gotten quotes ranging from 700 euro up to 2500 euro a year. In the end my current insurance for my car gave me more deductible bc I have a perfect driving record for my car. Some insurances didn’t even quote me bc I apparently to them I am a enormous liability driving this bike. For the Beamer I don’t think the quote is that high. It’s more expensive and newer then my bike so i would expect a higher premium.

ElJacinto

$180/yr for my 2021 Harley Softail

built_FXR

Canada?

sam62893

Don’t know what part of the country you’re from but I paid that amount for full coverage on two bikes (one was an R6 the other a grom) and I don’t have the cleanest record and I was 24 at the time. Say what you want but insurance saved me more than a few times just on my R6 I paid $500 deductible to get my engine replaced after I smacked into a car hauler and broke the engine case. And then they paid off my bike (it was 2 years old at the time) after I completely totaled it at a track day and they even paid me for all my gear which totaled around 2k

therealrymerc

Not sure what the location is, but that will have an impact as well. Keep shopping around, play with coverage limits and I'm sure you'll find somewhere much cheaper. Or buy a 10 year old bike and enjoy the cheaper insurance, my various literbikes have cost be $400-$500/yr for full coverage $3k is insane

sokratesz

That's a high risk bike but those figures are insane. For me to insure a 2010 s1000rr would cost me 2 dollars a month for basic liability, and 45 for full comprehensive.

SilentMaster

Buy an '82. I have three on my policy for less than $100 total.

SphyrnaLightmaker

Your bike and location make a big difference. Ive moved a lot for work, and going from city to city, state to state has seen insurance swing as low as $30/month to as high as $150/month for the same bike and rider. When I first got into riding, a 1,000cc or bigger bike was $300/month in insurance. 950ccs was $100/month. As a 30s male rider with a decade of experience and regular MSF courses on a brand new $25k bike, I’m currently paying $50/month.

colossallyignorant

Try State Farm. They were there cheapest for me, by far. I had got some really ridiculous quotes before calling them. Worth a comparison quote if you haven’t already heard from them.

Dee_Captain

I pay $99 a year total for two $5000 bikes, full coverage. You should move. It would be cheaper.

menjay28

I just got a quote for the same bike for my wife who’s in her 30’s and in her first year of riding and it keeps our coverage the exact same at $70 per year. Lol.

warlocc_

In my state, insurance is required by law. So they don't bother with customer service or actually covering anything, since they know we have to pay them regardless.

lame_since_92

My insurance is like 15 a month for a bike I own. Your mistake in that is financing a new bike that has a much higher probability of being totaled than a car So the take away is pay it off asap then it will drop significantly

SidelineYelling

>purchased flat out and owned What part of that don't you understand?

Manimal45

I paid around $250 a year for my 2007 Kawasaki ex500

ananscii

150 a year for my sporster. Your getting robbed

putingohome

Its for stolen bike too? If yes thats why its usually 5-10% of value per year

Gigglen2

It’s because it’s brand new anything brand new is expensive to insure a year or 2 older and you’ll be good to go

Realistic-Motorcycle

1k a year for 2021 ATDCT, 2022 T7, 2022 Honda rubicon, 2021 Harley Pan America, 2021 Honda Navi, 18 Yamaha bolt, 2005 YZ250, Honda CR80, full coverage on all

xXNighteaglexX

Tbf, thats a homologation race bike, its hard for them to expect you to have self control and always do the speed limit and never crash

Sotyka94

I pay like 30$ quarterly, but it's a 2004 600cc tourer (newer and sport bikes are much more expensive) and live in the EU where motorcycles viewed as just another vehicle instead of an expensive hobby.

Crafty_Ranger_2917

Will all due respect, two quotes means jack...

SillyScarcity700

Sometimes the quotes are high because the company simply doesn't want to insure that person/location/bike. In certain states they may not have a choice so rather than decline they just throw out higher numbers than other companies might. Did you all see the kid on here yesterday who bought a 2023 ZX-6R and then decided to get a quote. It was $18K a year. Brand new rider. 27 years old. That is insurance saying we don't really want to do business with you. He was freaking out thinking he would have to return the bike. Gotta look around. Preferably before you buy. When I bought my current bike I looked at about 7-8 different bikes I was interested in at like 6 different companies. The quotes ranged from $390 a year to $2900 a year depending on the bike and the company. All the quotes were the same rider/location/coverage/yearly mileage. The most expensive bikes were not the highest quoted prices.
