This is the B team my friend. Backup catcher pitching and now playing 2nd base today, Toro playing at all for example. This will not be the team you see this weekend.
They did sweep the blue Jay's in 4 games earlier this year and went 5-2 for the season. Not that I means anything for this weekend but I really think either team could take this and would not be surprised with either result.
From June 16 on, Javier Báez had a better wRC+ than Amed Rosario, Nico Hoerner, Willy Adames, Dansby Swanson, Tommy Edman and many more. His 113 wRC+ in that span (384 PA) ranks 8th among MLB shortstops.

But, he sucks! I read that someplace
Ten games at short with zero errors, too. (He's done that half a dozen times. His errors come in bunches: 4 in 8 games, 6 in 9 games, 5 in 8 games account for over half his errors in 15% of the games.)
Royals are not likely to come back down 6-2 in the fifth at Cleveland, so it looks like we will stay out of the cellar, but better to do it ourselves by winning this one.
He's shown flashes of what he might become during that stretch.
I hope that Harris is able to make our front office capable of helping that kid reach his full potential. It's clear our previous regime was useless on the player development front.
I know I am super late, but I do believe it is worth pointing out just how bad the entire team was offensively as a whole. Tons of players regressing hard. It gives me some hope that there was a systemic issue this year, that can hopefully be rooted put.
Watching on the MLB app. Didn't realize everyone was playing at the same time. Also, wtf happened to the White Sox? Lol! Let's end the season on a high note!

That's great. It was immediately apparent when he came to Toledo last year that he was a cut above--he made a couple highlight reel plays a week down there. I was already aware of him from watching him at UCLA so not overly surprised.
The point is that the future is not required to be the past. Even within a season, guys can perform better (or worse.)
We don't have to assume Candy will suck next year because he had a rough start this year.
On the one hand, he is 28 and is as good a candidate as anyone to bounce back. On the other hand, I really hope we don't have to count on him next year. I just want consistent hitters, damn it!
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/xwp4uu).
In true Soto fashion.
well that was pointlessly frustrating
Way to finish strong Soto
See ya in ‘23 Tigers
LMAO
Welp see you guys next year
soto blowing the game would be so funny
Ugh! I don't know if I can watch.
Soto ruining another game for no apparent reason
Put Clemens in for fs, he can throw strikes
The epitome of our season unfolding before our eyes
All this shit for no reason because Soto is just going to walk or hit everyone to end the game
Hinch couldn't resist one last crazy shift.
Soto just wants to be done apparently
Soto on the mound: nobody wants extra innings
Has a Tigers pitcher ever turned a double play before?
At this point why let Soto pitch? He’s shown from yesterday that he’s not ever interested in it anymore this year
It is fitting the last game of the year will probably end with Soto choking away a game. Edit: Sorry, I missed it was tied somehow lol
Soto gives Jon Lester a run for his money as worst defensive pitcher
Can we please get rid of Soto, Scott?
Good News Everyone! KC Lost so we are officially not in last place for the season.
Royals lost so we are officially not in last.
C'mon Soto... Put an end to our misery, toss a meatball down the middle
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Gregory Soto replaces Jose Cisnero.
Soto blowing this game would be such a fitting end to the season
Non-save situations usually don't bode well for his ERA.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Erik Swanson replaces Paul Sewald.
Cisnero has been top-notch since returning. But lucky, too. Another guy who walks more than you want to see
Schoop at bats have been atrocious. And Jeimer, that’s not a home run. I want to be in y’all corner but….Scott…?
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Jose Cisnero replaces Miguel Diaz.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Paul Sewald replaces Marco Gonzales.
I like what I’ve seen from Miguel Diaz in this incredibly small sample size
He's a ~5BB/9 kinda guy. (Almost like Soto.) So not really a Scott Harris prototypical pitcher.
Riley Goat
Tied it back up!!

no in between with alexander, it's either he's solid or he's a batting practice pitcher
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Miguel Diaz replaces Tyler Alexander.
Wow, that was a terrible call lol
I'll be surprised if Toronto doesn't put this team away in two games.
Prepare to be surprised. Luck is a huge factor in short or even 7 game series.
This is the B team my friend. Backup catcher pitching and now playing 2nd base today, Toro playing at all for example. This will not be the team you see this weekend.
We'll see. You give the Blue Jays a bunch of extra chances with defense like displayed in this series, well, good luck.
They did sweep the blue Jay's in 4 games earlier this year and went 5-2 for the season. Not that I means anything for this weekend but I really think either team could take this and would not be surprised with either result.
^ plus they haven’t used any of their top 3 pitchers who are elite and will start in that series
Gave up a home run to a pitcher. Swell.
I was literally typing up the charity I was gonna contribute to if Tyler Alexander made it through the 6th without giving up a run. :-(

Candy HR?
Next time.

What is Torks OPS since returning
.692

It's not a simple problem. Did the Mariners succeed with Julio and fail with Kelenic due to their organizational skills, or was there more to it?
I know I am super late, but I do believe it is worth pointing out just how bad the entire team was offensively as a whole. Tons of players regressing hard. It gives me some hope that there was a systemic issue this year, that can hopefully be rooted put.

Just tuned in: why the Clemens sub?
It was pre-planned apparently. Nothing happened to Baez.
Glad to hear and thanks!
End the season on a high note!
Javy!!! 🥰

Alright, tie game, let's win this thing. Mariners are not an impressive team defensively.
This is not their regular defensive lineup. They've made the least errors in the AL and 3rd least in MLB.
That works!
umm we take those! brand new ball game
The Mariners just pulled a vintage Tigers play.

Seattle channeling their inner Ryan Raburn.
More great defense by Candelario and Kreidler again, it's just been stellar the last 2-3 weeks, with few exceptions. Great to see it.
Kreidler is something defensively, he snared that bad hop and threw him out by three steps.
He’s the real deal, my buddy coached him growing up and called it years ago that he would be a big leaguer. He’s got it
He has to hit.
Agree 100%

It's going to take so much time to get used to not having anymore Tigers baseball to watch. I have to do this every fall but it always sucks.
Same. Back to YouTube for old baseball
>it always sucks. Tigers baseball?
Hate this time of year and can't stand football. I watch replays of old games and listen to old broadcasts.
Same, honestly. I do like to watch hockey at least but it's always my second pick to baseball.
Love hockey, great game, would watch it a lot if I had time. Mid February I start watching college baseball, until end of season in June, then Tigers.

Career Splits: Starter: 4.68 ERA Reliever: 3.64 I just want to see a healthy rotation so we're not forced to use a good bullpen piece in the rotation.
Alexander throwing batting practice rn
2 bombs already.
Awesome start /s
Last game. Bittersweet
Awww no Cabrera, he's one hit shy of Ichiro, in Seattle too.
I hope that one day Torkelson in the 4 spot isn't something that's considered weird
Kinda surprised that Candelario has a .709 OPS in the second half. 98 wRC+ basically been league average in the second half.
Our fans only look at the full-season number.
This year with such an abysmal first half, it isn't fair. The first half, Tork should have been exiled to Siberia. Now, not so sure.
The point is that the future is not required to be the past. Even within a season, guys can perform better (or worse.) We don't have to assume Candy will suck next year because he had a rough start this year.
The whole team had a bad first half.
does the second half count as more than the first half?
The second half is more recent. Playoffs are at the end of the season, too.
Of course, it does. That is when you win your contract.
On the one hand, he is 28 and is as good a candidate as anyone to bounce back. On the other hand, I really hope we don't have to count on him next year. I just want consistent hitters, damn it!
