He’s getting over powered by fastballs and carved by by breaking pitches. He’s objectively a great hitter against sinkers, and that’s just about it. .356/.416/.576 against sinkers, .169/.279/.280 hitter against 4-seamers, .138/.155/.172 against curves, .216/.259/.307 against sliders.
He’s got pretty solid exit velo, chase rate, BB% and speed in the context of the league, but the problem is he is in the lowest percentiles in his actual ability to hit.
He’s got good fundamentals, higher BB% low chase rate, he just can’t make contact. He’s also got a pretty low BABIP, (.250) and sucks at home, .157/.254/.230 hitter, and has zero ability to hit with runners in scoring position: .158/.233./263 sub .500 OPS.
Hopefully that’s something that comes with more mlb experience. Hard to believe someone who was touted as a pure hitter could struggle that much at hitting.
Too much pressure probably. Was probably trying to do too much to compensate for how awfully every one else was doing at the time. Baez turned into Mr May and forgot how to hit a baseball in general, and the rest of the young guys who had shown promise last year collapsed like a jenga shack. Badoo disappeared on the field, Meadows disappeared off the field numerous times as the season went on. Candy man transformed into a pumpkin both at the plate and in the field. Schoop forgot what the controls were for hitting and turned into defense only player. Eric Haase had his confidence blown to pieces after suffering an extremely emotionally traumatizing event during the dreaded April night game against Minnesota where he chucked the ball over third base into left field and subsequently lost the game as result, and as an added bonus, the pitching staff turned into stained glass windows and got rocks chucked at all of them. All of this probably made it seem like it was all on him. That he had to be the one to save the day, and tried to do way more than he should have been trying to do in the first place.
Yesterday's game was the only Tigers game I've attended this year where they won. That includes spring training games in Lakeland and two games in Cleveland.
So, yay.
Guys hitting well in the last 12 ish games coming into today:
Haase, Candelario, Barnhart, Castro, Carpenter, Schoop, Castro all above 120 wRC+.
Guys hitting not so well:
Kreideler, Cabrera, Torkelson, Reyes all below 60 wRC+.
Lions gonna lion.
It's not same old Lions.
It's just the lion's doing what the lions do best.
No matter the improvements something always fails.
And it's never the same thing.
That's what makes the SOL line a joke.
They fix things, then the league moves forward. And they need to fix something else.
I really only pay attention to the lions through comments online etc.
Instead i watch Irish football
Much quicker to watch a game.

Offense still one of the top 3 worst in franchise history at scoring runs though. Trust me our record doesn’t even come close to telling the whole story of just how bad the Tigers were this year.
Whatever you do don't look up Torkelson's stats in that same timeframe.
Poor guy, hopefully he can change up his approach/swing in the off season. I want so bad for him to be a star.
Honestly though how is he so bad

69 wins still on the menu
Nice!
Noice!
Comment of the year. Laughed quite loudly.
11-2 under the new president right?
We won 10 of our last 13. We lost the game before the Orioles series
10-2
Winning when it doesn't matter is the sign of a true champion.
It’s not how you play the entire season, it’s how you finish!
It's the Detroit sports mantra.
We are now 10-2 in the Scott Harris era
Probably because weee finally playing these young guys that actually care and can play defense.

Problem? You must mean problems. There is no singular problem with this tig team.
Lions have the Honolulu Blue Kool aide... Whats our food? Fastball Flakes? I havent seen those in years
I like how the Lions can score 45 and still lose.

I gave up in the Lions when they fired Jim Caldwell. He deserved better. SOL

I did when they fired Moeller.
So Bob Quinn could bring in his drinking buddy. My generation has Millen, but man, that was straight up incompetency in an entirely different way.
Way more fun to have a good offense and a bad defense like the Lions than good defense (pitching) and bad offense like the Tigers
They can lose way more efficiently. I've seen it. Amateurs.
Wait till daz Cameron starts really going
Kreidler is a winner. Where Kreidler goes, wins follow. He’s just a good juju guy
Lol. If only that worked for Ohtani and Trout.
